[Bug 451176] Re: downloaded podcasts episodes disappear from list

2009-11-08 Thread Stephen Schleising
I've managed to work out what triggers this bug, if you have selected
the Watch my library for new files option in the Music tab of the
preferences dialog AND you download podcasts into the folder (or sub
folder) of the one being watched then the podcasts disappear from the
feed window.

For example, I watch the folder

/home/steve/Music

and store my podcasts in

/home/steve/Music/Podcasts

This gives two workarounds for now,

1) Leave the podcasts where they are, but uncheck the Watch my library for new
files option.
2) Move the podcasts to a folder which is not being watched

I have chosen to move my podcasts to

/home/steve/Podcasts

and no longer see this problem. Could the original submitter (or anyone
else seeing this problem) confirm my workarounds?

Hopefully someone can now recreate this bug and try to find a proper
solution.

[Bug 360434] [NEW] [Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. P35-DS3L] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-04-13 Thread Stephen Schleising
Public bug reported:

Suspend/resume fails on wake-up if the PC is left in the suspended state
for more than a couple of seconds. If the PC is resumed immediately
after the suspend takes place the resume seems to work, but often there

haven't tried Jaunty yet.

[Bug 279287] Re: [intrepid] NetworkManager 0.7 hangs system

2008-10-25 Thread Stephen Schleising
After having done some research I'm now sure that this hang is due to
the acx wireless driver and the fact that it does not support WPA. I
can use NetworkManager if I blacklist this driver in
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and use a wired connection instead.

The worrying thing for Ubuntu is that this bug exists on the release
candidate CD, the CD will not start at all if an acx111 based wireless
card is present on the system. This would obviously preclude a number
of users from installing and trying Intrepid.

There are two ways to fix this issue, either blacklist the acx driver by
default, or if the acx driver is present disable NetworkManager.

In the long term the acx driver needs to add support for WPA, but I
can't tell if the project is still being worked on. In the absence of
any update to this driver NetworkManager should not enable WPA support
by default for acx111 based cards.

I would hope that resolving this issue would be a priority for the
Ubuntu team as it would put off new users from converting to Linux and
will leave current users unable to upgrade.

I look forward to hearing your response to these comments.

2008-10-15 Thread Stephen Schleising
I've managed to get a photograph of a stack trace of the problem, two
parts of it are attached, unfortunately there was no way to write this
information to a disk so I don't have the whole trace.

Hopefully this will give you some information about the problem, could
you please let me know if there's anything else I can try?

[Bug 279287] Re: [intrepid] NetworkManager 0.7 hangs system

2008-10-09 Thread Stephen Schleising
Hello again, attached is a photo of the output to the console after I
issue the command to start network manager in no daemon mode, there is
no output at all if I start it as a service. Alt+SysRq+t and
Alt+SysRq+p gave no results.

Unfortunately I can't do this on a tty as all are blank except for a
blinking cursor, they are actually alive and I can log into them and
echo text to a file to test, but I never get anything actually shown on
the screen, even setupcon doesn't work.

So, do you have any ideas what I can try next?

Thanks,

Steve.

Chris,

Sorry but it appears I spoke too soon. I've replaced the faulty memory
with modules which pass memtest but I still get the problem. It's a
complete system lock up, the SysRq process yields no results.

The output of uname -a is:

Linux steve-desktop 2.6.27-5-generic #1 SMP Fri Oct 3 00:36:38 UTC 2008

I'll also add the other files you requested.

The last boot that you see in kern.log is m boot into the recovery setup

I'm willing to give any more information you may need and can build

help to find the problem.

[Bug 279287] [NEW] [intrepid] NetworkManager 0.7 hangs system

2008-10-06 Thread Stephen Schleising
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

NetworkManager hangs my system completely after running for a few
seconds, I get no response from the keyboard or mouse. This normally
results in a hung system at the login screen, but I've removed the
symlinks to NetworkManager from /etc/rcX.d to get my desktop available.

In this state I can attempt to start NetworkManager with the command

sudo NetworkManager --no-daemon 2 hang.txt

but still get the same result, the resulting file is attached.

The version of NetworkManager I'm using is
0.7~~svn20080928t225540+eni0-0ubuntu2 which is currently the latest in
the Intrepid repositories, my current kernel is 2.6.27-5-generic and I'm
using wireless extensions 29.

My wireless card is a NetGear PCI WG311v2 acx111 based device, other PC
specs which may be of interest are,

M/Board: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
Processor: Q6600
Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce 8500 GT

If there's any more information I can provide then please let me know.
