[Bug 510505] Re: cdrecord has no permission to open the device

2018-10-23 Thread TFrog
I'll second Thomas Mayer's solution as to fixing CD burning in K3b and
18.04. Though I run KDE Neon User Edition (based on Ubuntu 18.04, I ran
into this very same issue. I found the link that Mr. Mayer provided
(without finding this bug report first) and it corrected the issue. To
me this is a packaging problem and not a problem with wodim or cdrdao
itself.

[Bug 1579834] Re: update-apt-xapian-index-dbus fails because of wrong import

2016-05-11 Thread TFrog
I too suffered this exact same issue that Carlo Vanini lists here. It
was my work with him and another developer of muon package manager that
helped him find this issue. Between three of us we were able to narrow
the issue in muon down to this issue. This issue occurred with me when
I ran Kubuntu 16.04 LTS in VirtualBox as well as on bare metal. My
system is a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop with 8G of ram, 640G hard drive,
Intel i5 M460 processor, and Broadcom wireless. I used both muon and
synaptic in 16.04 LTS to check this issue. The only place I found the
issue was within muon. Synaptic did NOT have the search issues that
muon did. I do hope this issue gets resolved as I prefer muon as it's a
native KDE application and has some features that synaptic does not have
(like being able to remove unnecessary packages without resorting to the
CLI).

[Bug 1446839] Re: soundkonverter linking to trash can widget in KDE 4.13.3 Kubuntu 14.04.2LTS

2015-04-22 Thread TFrog
I just got finished going through my file associations via system
settings and found exactly where it was causing issues. Your wild guess
was spot on correct. I found multiple places where soundkonverter was
listed in the "inode" section and it wasn't just directory for mime
type. I've cleared all references to soundkonverter in the "inode"
section of file association and this bug/issue can now be labeled as
fixed. Though I still don't understand how soundkonverter when
installed placed all the file associations under "inode" branch of the
file associations, this bug is fixed otherwise.

[Bug 1446839] [NEW] soundkonverter linking to trash can widget in KDE 4.13.3 Kubuntu 14.04.2LTS

2015-04-21 Thread TFrog
Public bug reported:

Though not critical, this application seems to have linked to the trash
can widget in KDE 4.13.3 Kubuntu 14.04.2LTS. In that soundkonverter is
opened when you attempt to open the trash folder from the trash can
widget. Does not matter if you attempt to open the trash folder via the
right click menu or just click on the widget itself. It opens
soundkonverter instead of dolphin. When soundkonverter is opened via
this it comes up with the error - Some files can't be decoded. Possible
solutions listed below. Then it goes on to list the solutions. My
question is, is this an issue with soundkonverter or with the widget
itself?

[Bug 407696] [NEW] Installer hangs at 14% then skips to 85% red flag error.

2009-08-01 Thread TFrog
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

I've loaded up this mornings daily image of Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala
with the alternate installer first trying it in Virtualbox and then on a
seperate hard drive for my Compaq R4125US laptop. In both cases, the
installer goes all the way to adding additional software where it loads
Xorg, Xserver, and applications. It gets through taskel and starts
loading all of Xorg. After it hits 14% complete it jumps to a red
screen with a "continue" on it. I hit continue to be dropped back to
the base menu where I selected to install additional software and it
gives me a selection about updates. No matter what selection I make at
this screen about updates does the installer allow me to get past 14%
install of additional software. It jumps to 85% after hitting the 14%
mark and gives me the red screen. It appears to be caught in a loop at
this point. I've experience this issue with several builds in the last
two weeks.

[Bug 361439] Re: QuickCam Pro 9000 works in skype doesn't work in cheese

2009-06-04 Thread TFrog
I can get Cheese to work in Jaunty under KDE. However, it will not save
a photo to disk nor will it iconify the snapshot. Running it in
adminstrator mode (sudo cheese) gets me the following:

f...@lilypad:~$ sudo cheese

** (cheese:5149): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon: Icon 'image-loading'

** (cheese:5149): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon: Icon 'image-loading'

Attempted to change resolution in Jaunty under KDE results in nothing shown
other than a color chart and static. Same as above if resolution is changed
while in administrator mode. I have a separate Unbuntu 9.04 install with only
Gnome desktop and Cheese works flawlessly there for some reason.

[Bug 259278] Re: knetworkmanager will no longer connect

2008-10-08 Thread TFrog
I just downloaded a daily build of Intrepid a week ago and knetwork
manager is currently working. However, I do need to update it and see
if it continues to work. Will most likely do that tomorrow morning as I
have this on another drive not currently installed into my laptop. Of
course, like anish, wireless networks doesn't show up upon right
clicking the globe in the system tray. But doing a manual add shows all
available networks. I can live with that though it would be much easier
to right click and then click on the network you want to connect to even
if it does bring up a password screen. I'll adress this further once
I've updated.

[Bug 259278] Re: knetworkmanager will no longer connect

2008-08-29 Thread TFrog
I just finished reloading Alpha 4 of Kubuntu 8.10 and updated it at
around 7:30pm EST USA time today. Once rebooted to load new kernel and
all updates knetworkmanager again showed the appropriate network to
connect to but no others in the vicinity when I know there is at least 2
or 3 other networks. Again it failed to connect to the default (my
network).

I attempted a manual configuration applying the appropriate information
and knetworkmanager continued to fail to connect. This is a very odd
issue. If I were to load Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 with all updates I don't
get this issue. Only with Kubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 with all updates do I
have this issue. I've also tried loading the KDE desktop on top of
Ubuntu 8.10. the session manager will fail to locate KDE but that is
another issue altogether.

[Bug 259278] Re: knetworkmanager will no longer connect

2008-08-28 Thread TFrog
I just reloaded Kubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 again this morning and ran the
updates. Even with the SVN version of knetworkmanager, I still am able
to see the network that I connect to but no others (I know there are
others around). I cannot connect though. My system is a Compaq R4125US
laptop with a Broadcom 4318 wireless chipset. I have no problems with
the base Alpha 4 and connecting. It's just after updating I'm unable to
connect. I also noted the use of what appears to be the very latest
kernel in this update (2.6.27). If I load regular Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 I
don't have this issue. I'll try again in a few days or after Alpha 5 is
released. Otherwise, Kubuntu 8.10 looks promising.

2008-06-29 Thread TFrog
When attempting to open Adept_Manager package, the window asking for
administrative/root priveledges opens via KDEsu. It requests you type
in the administrative/root password. Once you type in the proper
password it bounces back to requesting the password again instead of
opening Adept_Manager. If you type in the password again, it bounces
you right back to the password again and again and again. Three
attactments follow showing what happens. Snapshot 1 is the original
screen, snapshot 2 and 3 are repeated requests.

2008-04-01 Thread TFrog
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 182716 ***

I have tried this and other different work arounds. Neither ndiswrapper
nor the b43 driver are working on my Compaq R4125US laptop with Broadcom
4318 chip. Since I don't have access to a "wired lan" I've had to do a
lot of my work back and forth via Windows then Kubuntu. I've currently
given up and am waiting for the final release of Kubuntu 8.04. I'm
hoping that they get the b43 driver working correctly as when I did get
it to work in an early Alpha it worked even better than with
ndiswrapper. However, if I have to use ndiswrapper again, I'll be more
than happy to as it's worked well in the past.

[Bug 94849] System hangs on restart/shutdown with current fglrx driver loaded!

2007-03-22 Thread TFrog
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx

On my Compaq Presario R4125US I loaded the repository drivers via the
following route:

1.) sudo kate /etc/X11/xorg.conf
  adding lines:
   Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Disable"
   EndSection
2.) Installed the linux-restricted-modules for the current kernel via adept.
3.) sudo depmod -a
4.) sudo aticonfig --initial
5.) sudo aticonfig --overlay-type=Xv
6.) sudo shutdown -r now

Upon reboot, I get this when I go to the CLI and type fglrxinfo:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: RADEON XPRESS Series
OpenGL version string: 2.0.6334 (8.34.8)

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

This tells me the drivers are loaded properly and I can now play
Scorched3D without issues. However, if I attempt to restart or shutdown
the system, my laptop hangs and fails to shutdown or reboot. I have to
physically shut it off by holding the ON/OFF button down for three
seconds. Not certain if it's a driver issue or something else. Please
investigate this.

[Bug 92285] flgrx drivers unstable!

2007-03-14 Thread TFrog
Public bug reported:

When installing ATI proprietary drivers using:

http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Feisty_Installation_Guide

my system immediately wants me to upgrade various packages for flgrx as
well as load the dpatch package. So in and effort to make things simple
I did the upgrade and everything seems to work well when I select the
proprietary drivers from System Settings-Monitor&Display the drivers
appear to load well. The glxgears reports an instability in the drivers
by varying between 600FPS and 1000FPS even when there is no other input
into the system. The drivers also loop when shutting down or
restarting. I've contacted AMD/ATI about this issue with the 8.34.8
drivers. I have to physically hit the power switch to restart if these
drivers are loaded. I'm back to running the DRI ATI drivers for now.
Would be very thankful if you get the ATI drivers working for everyone
with a laptop and the 200M Xpress chipset from the repositories.

[Bug 89725] Scorched 3D unplayable without fglxr drivers for ATI!

2007-03-04 Thread TFrog
Public bug reported:

Attempted to compile ATI proprietary drivers on Fiesty Fawn with all
updates using this HowTo from the forums:

http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=321766&highlight=ati+200m

When using kernel 2.6.17-10 or 2.6.17-11 this process works on my Compaq
Presario R4125US and gives me good 3D acceleration in Edgy.
Unfortunately this process halts at:

sudo module-assistant build fglrx

when attempting to do same in Fiesty Fawn. I can NOT compile the ATI
proprietary drivers for 3D acceleration nor do the repository drivers
work. Playing any 3D game from Fiesty at this time with this laptop is
impossible.

2007-02-26 Thread TFrog
Chris,

A support request was made for this issue. As of yet, I've not heard back
from the development team as to whether it is considered a bug or not so
there is no bug number. There is however a support request number which is
#3877. I'll post such in this report for further reference to others and
then you can close the report.

Sincerely,
Terry L. Parris

[Bug 86499] Re: ndiswrapper fails to connect in Edgy Eft and Feisty Fawn Herd 4

2007-02-25 Thread TFrog
Not sure if you should close this report as there still lies a problem
between knetworkmanager and ndiswrapper. When connecting to a single
(open) network the connection often times will time out at 28%. I've
found that if I have knetworkmanager directed to connect to a non-
existant network and then attempt to reconnect to the only network
available it will finally connect. In a multiple (open and secure)
network area knetwork manager will not connect to your (preferred)
network till you tell it to do so. Prior to that it will connect to
another network whether it be open or secure. Bug was submitted about
this. If this is not a problem with ndiswrapper, this bug may be
closed.

[Bug 87630] Pysol fails to load on Feisty Fawn

Game doesn't even load on my Compaq Presario R4125US. I click on the

then it disappears but no card games :( Is there something wrong with

[Bug 86499] Re: ndiswrapper fails to connect in Edgy Eft and Feisty Fawn Herd 4

2007-02-22 Thread TFrog
With new ndiswrapper 1.9 compiled by Ubuntu developers from source
version 1.30, ndiswrapper works. It does have some timing issues that
could be caused by the network that you connect to. However,
ndiswrapper is working for the moment. Occasionally, on boot up
ndiswrapper will fail but I believe it is more of a timing issue with
the servers that I'm connecting to now.

[Bug 86499] ndiswrapper fails to connect in Edgy Eft and Feisty Fawn Herd 4

2007-02-20 Thread TFrog
Public bug reported:

This problem applies to Compaq Presario R4125US. Both versions of
ndiswrapper (1.1 and 1.9) load the Windows driver (and unload the
driver) properly but the network fails to connect on even an open
network. This bug also existed in Edgy Eft with ndiswrapper 1.1 and
1.8. Under kernel 2.6.17-10 you can compile source code from
ndiswrapper project version 1.37 and have a working Broadcom 43xx card
with some extra work. With Edgy kernel 2.6.17-11 you have the same
issue as you have with Feisty Fawn. However, you can compile
ndiswrapper project 1.37 source code with Edgy 2.6.17-11. With a fresh
install of Feisty Fawn you can NOT compile ndiswrapper project 1.37
source code without errors and failure to install. Have failed to find
any information on the bcm43xx-cutter for Feisty Fawn and noted not one
but two connections for wireless in Network Settings. One listed as
Wmaster0 and the other listed as Wlan0. Not sure which is the real Wlan
for my card. A little input would be helpful so I might be able to
configure the card with at least the fw-cutter driver though it will be
restricted to 11Mbps instead of the full 54Mbps.

RE: [Bug 63176] Re: Can't connect to my Kubuntu laptop to my WPA enablednetwork.

2006-10-03 Thread TFrog
Lothar,

Thanks for the reply but the native Broadcom driver is not an option for me.
I live in an apartment complex with as many as 5 or 6 separate networks in
the area at once. WEP encryption is just pure trash compared to the
security of WPA. I could probably walk around the apartment complex right
now if I had Dapper on here again with Airsnort and get into even the ones
around that are so called secured. However, thanks for the info. I can get
ndiswrapper working fine under Dapper and am moving the laptop back to it in
about 20 minutes. I had to do something to prove to Ubuntu staff I wasn't
lying about ndiswrapper being toasted in Edgy Eft. I've now got screenshots
to prove it. LOL.

Sincerely,
TFrog

RE: [Bug 63176] Re: Can't connect to my Kubuntu laptop to my WPA enablednetwork.

2006-09-30 Thread TFrog
Dear Ms., Mz., Miss, or Mrs. Hobbs,

The current version of knetworkmanager I'm running is 0.1-0ubuntu1. Current
version of knworkconf is 3.5.4-0ubuntu3. I'm currently running Kubuntu Edgy
Eft 6.10 with all the updates. The repository version of ndiswrapper-utils
didn't work when atempting to load the Windows drivers. ndiswrapper -i
reported no ndiswrapper from three different drivers. After that I went to
the ndiswrapper project page, downloaded 1.23 source code tarball from
SourceForge and compiled. From that point on my Broadcom BCM4318 was
recognized by Kubuntu as being Enabled in System Settings/Network
Connections. It was at that point I installed the Edgy repository
knetworkmanager. It shows the networks in the neighborhood (as I live in an
apartment complex with a lot of wireless networks). However, when trying to
connect to the one in my home which has WPA security enabled, it brings up
the Connect to Wireless Network window for me to fill in the WPA Personal
password. After typing in my password, it goes to Configuring Device and
sticks at 28%. Never do I see KDE Wallet to save the passkey or ask me for
a login to let knetworkmanager use the wallet for the passkey.

When using Dapper Drake, the first thing it would do no matter the settings
in Security, it would pop up the wallet login before providing the password
to knetworkmanager. For some reason it fails to do this in Edgy Eft. Also,
this was a clean install from a freshly burned disc image bit torrented down
to my desktop with ktorrent which is also running Edgy Eft Beta at the
moment (installed from the same disc image). Both installs were done late
last night and early this morning. Should you know who wrote the Xorg mouse
driver for Eft, please thank him/her for me. This is the first time I've
had my Microsoft wireless mouse work without a total system hang every 30
minutes. Matter of fact, I have yet to have it hang the system.

I'm a very satisfied Ubuntu/Kubuntu user. Almost six months ago I switched
from Fedora Core. I've not looked back yet. If you are able to provide me
with more help with this issue from the above prescribed symtoms I greatly
appreciate it. By the way, I may be new to Ubuntu/Kubuntu, but I'm a
CompTIA A+ certified tech. I am very good at spotting troubles and
hopefully I provided you with a thorough enough accounting of the issue to
help you resolve this. I've seen another post on the Ubuntu forums saying
ndiswrapper was currently broken, but I didn't go out immediately and
compile the SourceForge project code till after trying the packages to
verify what was heard. I however need the ndiswrapper for the WPA security
till either the Broadcom project completes its work or Linux in general
adopts the Dreamscape driver model that I've been hearing about and
following with great interest.

Sincerely,
Terry L. Parris (IRC nick TFrog)

[Bug 63176] Can't connect to my Kubuntu laptop to my WPA enabled network.

2006-09-30 Thread TFrog
Public bug reported:

I'm running a Compaq Presario R4125US laptop with a Broadcom BCM4318
chipset. The repository debs for ndiswrapper-utils and ndiswrapper
don't work at all. I searched the net for others with similar issues.
Others are having this issue as well. seems those packages are broken.
I did however, download and compile the ndiswrapper version 1.23 from
source code. From there my system recognized my chipset and was able to
see it in the network settings in the system settings. Afterward, I
downloaded and installed Knetworkmanager like I did with Dapper. I
attempted to connect to my home network and was not prompted to enter a
password for KDE Wallet and Knetworkmanager didn't seem to keep my
passkey. Knetworkmanager hung at 28% while trying to configure my
network access. The laptop works fine wired but this is the ONLY issue
I got with the new Edgy. My desktop works fabulous and I'd love to
personally thank the person who put in the extra effort into doing the
mouse drivers. My wireless mouse on my desktop no longer freezes to the
point of hard reset. CONGRATS. Otherwise a fine effort on all your
parts.

[Bug 46997] Re: Kubuntu lockups with PS2 mouse or Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0

2006-06-18 Thread TFrog
PS 2 mouse and wireless still locking up occasionally in Xwinodws. I
don't use anything but KDE and the shell occasionally. Mouse works fine
in shell when selecting options in adept for registered software as well
as using shell based apps where you can select or deselect options (like
in sysv-rc-conf). Most noteable lockups occur while in Konqueror and
any Java based software (currently running Sun Java 1.05 Release 7).
None of the keyboard options specified to me work. Even the keyboard
driver is locked out in Xwindows when these freezes occur thus requiring
me to hit the reset button in order to get back to the desktop. Even
with current upgrades to date (Sun Jun 18 2006) I still have these
freezes that are unexplained.

Sincerely,
Terry L. Parris
