[Bug 57797] Re: include aoTuV patch
Also, according to listening tests, opus is known to be better than vorbis in every tested scenario, see: http://jmspeex.livejournal.com/13547.html I can say from the experience of ABX testing classical music at low bitrates, 32 kb/s to 64 kb/s, that there's basically no comparison between AoTuV and Opus, in that AoTuV performs vastly better. That can be important for devices with limited storage, like smartphones. I know Xiph consistently claims Opus to be superior, but I've had a very different experience with the music I've tested, and in any case, this isn't a question of Opus vs. AoTuV. This is a question of the latest AoTuV vs. an old version, and we know which is better. I understand that getting the patch applied upstream would be preferred, but realistically, that's not going to happen. This has been a known issue in Debian for years, and nothing has been done about it. It's a simple enough patch to apply that I would say Ubuntu should just go ahead and do it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/57797 Title: include aoTuV patch To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/medibuntu/+bug/57797/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 57797] Re: include aoTuV patch
hdante, just a few comments/questions: 2) Xiph vorbis encoder merged AoTuV tunings What version of the AoTuV tunings have been merged into the Xiph encoder? The version of oggenc that ships with Ubuntu can't go down to 32 kb/s, which is a sign that it's using the old, unpatched reference encoder, rather than the AoTuV tunings. 3) the best lossy open source audio codec is opus: http://xiph.org/press/2012/rfc-6716/ Opus and Vorbis have different uses. Opus is superior in certain applications, like streaming over a variable-bitrate channel in the presence of substantial packet loss, and VOIP with low latency. But Vorbis with AoTuV tunings has far superior sound quality for music, especially at low bitrates, than the reference Opus encoder, and has better support on a range of devices. The fact that Opus is better for some applications shouldn't prevent Ubuntu from shipping with the best free/open source encoder available.
[Bug 1380173] [NEW] Single touchpad tap causes two click events
Public bug reported: A single tap on the touchpad sometimes causes two left-click events. One way to trigger this behavior is to do a two-finger tap (to emulate a right click), and after the context menu comes up, to do a single tap somewhere else. The single tap will then be interpreted as two separate left clicks. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open up Chrome, navigate to search engine, and execute a search. 2. Tap on one of the links with two fingers. A context menu appears. 3. Tap once on Open in New Tab, making sure that the link is also directly below the mouse when you tap. 4. Often, two left clicks occur: the first left click selects Open in New Tab, and the second left click opens the link a second time. Expected behavior: In the above example, only one left click should fire. The link should only be opened once, not twice. What happened instead: In the above example, the link is opened twice, indicating that two left clicks fired, rather than just one. [Bug 1311403] Re: Can't type password after resume.
I've noticed that when this happens, if a text box was selected before closing my laptop's lid, when I open up again and try to enter in my password, it's entered into the text box, instead of into the password field. [Bug 1018547] Re: Kernel panics when connected to wifi
I haven't experienced any kernel panics with the v3.5-rc4-quantal kernel yet, but another problem not present in the earlier kernel version has been occurring. I don't know whether its related to wifi. The problem is that during boot up, the computer hangs before rendering of the Ubuntu login screen has completed. On my laptop, in the period starting 5 seconds after boot-up and ending 50 seconds after boot-up, the computer appears frozen, but I can still move the mouse. Clicking on the power icon has no effect, and the box to enter my password is not rendered. The screen has not yet transitioned to showing the desktop wallpaper. About 50 seconds into boot-up, the computer appears to come to life again, and everything proceeds as normal. This happens every time with the newer kernel, but does not happen with the older kernel. I'm attaching the kernel log from one boot-up sequence. ** Attachment added: Kernel log during boot-up https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1018547/+attachment/3206836/+files/kern.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1018547 Title: Kernel panics when connected to wifi To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1018547/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The steps to reproduce the bug on my hardware are: 1. Start up computer, log in to Unity session. 2. Wait a random amount of time. Windows begin resizing. If one does not touch the touchpad, the window will continue to switch between different states indefinitely. Upon moving the mouse with the touchpad, the window stops resizing. This is not a hardware issue. It is a regression in Unity. This issue does not occur in Gnome 3, nor in Ubuntu 11.04. In Windows, my machine has no hardware-related issues. I included the orange-box issue, because it seems to be related. Both issues appeared with the transition from 11.04 to 11.10 (though they are also present after a fresh install of 11.10), and both involve unexpected window behavior. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/885464 Title: Windows randomly resize To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/885464/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I think we may be looking at two separate (but perhaps related?) problems here, since one group of users is reporting that their mouse completely freezes, and that synclient TouchpadOff=0 works to unfreeze the mouse, while another group - including myself - reports that the mouse and keyboard temporarily lock up (a few seconds at most), and then behave erratically afterwards (clicking and dragging windows uncontrollably). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/868400 Title: Synaptics touchpad stops working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/868400/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working
I've attached an example of what happens when the pointer unfreezes. The video is a bit faster than real life, but notice how the cursor grabs a window, shakes it around and then maximizes it, before returning control to the user. [Bug 885464] [NEW] Windows randomly resize
Public bug reported: Windows sometimes randomly resize themselves. Often, a maximized window will go rapidly between maximized and unmaximized states - as much as a few times per second. This happens both with windows that have focus and windows that do not have focus. However, unfocused windows that randomly resize themselves seem to take focus away from the current window. Another problem which is perhaps related is that the orange window frame, which Unity uses when placing a window in a corner or against the edge of the screen, randomly appears and does not go away until one grabs a different window and drags it to the edge of the screen. A screen grab of this happening is attached. The only changes to the appearance settings that I have made are to enable wobbly windows and the static application switcher, and replace the Ambiance icon theme with the Faenza icons with gnome-tweak-tool. In the wallpaper dialog, I notice that the window decorations are gone, so metacity is not running. [Bug 876745] [NEW] Mouse becomes unresponsive, windows are dragged around screen seemingly at random
Public bug reported: At seemingly random times, but fairly often (a few dozen times during a normal workday), the mouse freezes temporarily, and a window will start being dragged around the screen. Sometimes the problem ends when the mouse becomes unfrozen, but at other times, moving the mouse afterwards will cause the window to be dragged about the screen. It's as if the pointer has grabbed a window and won't let go. Hitting Alt+F4 seems to kill the display manager, temporarily ending the problem when the display comes back up. After hitting Alt+F4, the windows have all moved to the top-left workspace, and the top panel does not function normally. Specifically, double-clicking the top panel no longer unmaximizes a window. The best way to describe this bug is that it's like having your computer taken over by a ghost. This problem first appeared when I upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10. I then did a fresh reinstall of 11.10, but the problem persists. I thought that the problem might have to do with the Unity MT Grab Handles, so I disabled them. This appears to have had no effect. The problem occurs both when using the touchpad and when using a USB mouse. [Bug 876745] Re: Mouse becomes unresponsive, windows are dragged around screen seemingly at random
When this behavior occurs, compiz' cpu usage jumps. Compiz goes back to normal cpu usage once the mouse is released. This is what makes me think this is a compiz/unity bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/876745 Title: Mouse becomes unresponsive, windows are dragged around screen seemingly at random To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/876745/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 803619] [NEW] KDevelop stops accepting text input
Public bug reported: While working on a c++ project, KDevelop works fine for the first few minutes after opening. After a few minutes, the cursor stops blinking, and the user can no longer input text into - nor delete text from - any of the open files. This happens at seemingly random times, but frequently. The only sure workaround I have found is to close KDevelop and restart the program, although sometimes after leaving KDevelop alone for a while, it begins working again. Running KDevelop from a terminal, here is the output I get when the cursor stops blinking: kdevelop(7519)/kdevplatform (language) KDevelop::TopDUContextDynamicData::getDeclarationForIndex: declaration index out of bounds: 1725 count: 18 kdevelop(7519)/kdevplatform (language) KDevelop::TopDUContextDynamicData::getDeclarationForIndex: declaration index out of bounds: 1725 count: 18 kdevelop(7519)/kdevplatform (language) KDevelop::TopDUContextDynamicData::getDeclarationForIndex: declaration index out of bounds: 1725 count: 18 kdevelop(7519)/kdevplatform (language) KDevelop::TopDUContextDynamicData::getDeclarationForIndex: declaration index out of bounds: 1725 count: 18 QVariantMap DBusMenuExporterDBus::getProperties(int, const QStringList) const: Condition failed: action execute composite (NativeAppJob(0x5cbc100, name = MCMC Lightweight) ) The line about declaration index out of bounds happens repeatedly as the program runs, but it seems that the Condition failed: action is associated with the bug. I am running 64-bit Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity. The installed version of KDevelop is 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu2, from the natty/main amd64 repository. I can provide any other necessary infomation related to the bug. ** Affects: kdevelop (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdevelop in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/803619 Title: KDevelop stops accepting text input To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdevelop/+bug/803619/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 771788] Re: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk
This bug also affects me. I'm running 64-bit 11.04, with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M. I've noticed that YouTube videos no longer run smoothly in fullscreen (I get ~2 FPS), while they run fine in windowed mode. Running glx-gears brings my computer to a standstill, and I only see the gears update every few seconds, although the program claims 8000 FPS. glx-gears does, however, give me the following error message: Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 270.41.06, but this NVIDIA driver component has version 270.41.19. Please make sure that the kernel module and all NVIDIA driver components have the same version. I began with Maverick, and Flash video worked fine until the upgrade to 11.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/771788 Title: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
