[Bug 542547] [NEW] Termial and Gnome Panel need to be excluded on the compiz negative plugin to allow for invert on default theme

2010-03-20 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Lucid i386 amd64

This setting should be considered the default based on the default theme
setting currently shipping with Lucid.

In the negative plugin for compiz the exclude list should be:

(type=Desktop) | class=Gnome-terminal | class=Gnome-panel

This means that on invert all the windows will appear inverted.

What happens now is that the termial is white and the gone panel and
menus are white as they both alread have dark backgrounds by default.

This is a potential point of confusion for those users who are not used to
setting up compiz and themes should be able to configure the invert attributes
of certain components under compiz.

[Bug 542547] Re: Termial and Gnome Panel need to be excluded on the compiz negative plugin to allow for invert on default theme

2010-03-20 Thread TommyBoy
On further usage there are more problems with the current theme as now
application menus are inverted based on the settings above. Again they
are bright white and for me that makes them impossible to read. Invert
using compiz has been great till these new more complex themes were
introduced.

[Bug 542668] [NEW] cups unable to get connection from remote system on port 631

2010-03-20 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

Running on Lucid i386 I have been unable to access the cups interface
from a remote system using:

http://servername:631/

The browser would report no connection available and not receive
anything from the host machine.

The local machine would login correctly. I had enabled remote
administation and shared the printer with Internet printing enabled.

This was solved by installing firestarter and then looking for
connections from the remote system and telling it to allow connections
from all for this port.

I am a little bit unsure of the internals but I know this has not been a
problem on previous versions of cups/ubuntu.

This is connected to a LCD TV using HDMi, running the latest kernel
breaks the xserver and I am dripped out into the shell with the same
error messages in the log below. I am writing this on the previous
kernel version so it does work.

[Bug 539941] [NEW] ESD removed from registry no sound when in winecfg

2010-03-16 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wine1.2

Installed wine and go no sound after install. Then went into winecfg and
got a message that there was no need to have the ESD entry in the sound
servers and would I like to remove it from the list. Interested to see
what happened I clicked Yes and now can not restore the ESD option.

So i have apt-get purge wine and rm -rf .wine and still ESD entry will
not come back after reinstall in winecfg. Now wine has no sounds as it
pretty useless for someone who is using it for sounds applications.

Reproduce it install wine and run winecfg click on sounds and then
answer yes to the question about not needing ESD.

[Bug 529398] [NEW] hibernate/resume failure [non-free: fglrx]

2010-02-28 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 9.10

Linux DualCore910 2.6.31-20-generic #57-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 8 09:05:19 UTC 2010
i686 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu 2.6.31-20.57-generic

After a restart this only seems to happen when my scanner is attached to an
secondary pci USB card in the PC. Go figure. The Graphics driver might be a bit
misleading for this bug. Maybe there is an incompatability on howthe hardware
is initialised.

ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: This occured during a previous hibernate and prevented it from
resuming properly.

[Bug 527461] [NEW] Wine esound module cuts out middle of sound

2010-02-24 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wine1.2

Ubuntu 10.04
Wine current package release

New version of Wine, firstly to say thank you for getting this rolled
out for the latest release from Ubuntu. I have a slight problem that I
am finding that the sounds in Wine now seems choppy and broken and
missing but strangely in the middle of the sounds being player. I am
using this for text to speech and it seems as if part of the words are
missing. Hope that this can be resolved.

[Bug 489526] Re: ubuntu one couch db dones not store postal address information

2009-12-08 Thread TommyBoy
I have reopened the bug after testing from the beta ppa, the issue
described above still exists.

The problem is with the contents from the large Address: box in
evolution under new cotact not being uploaded into the Ubuntu One Web
interface. I am not sure if the data is now lost after updating the
database but this information could be essential when on the road and
you can not access it right now. I will keep my eye on the Address field
to see if it is removed again. I suspect that when is syncs it might
disappear. Watch this space.

[Bug 489526] [NEW] ubuntu one couch db dones not store postal address information

2009-11-28 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I am using Ubuntu karmic and have try testing the ubuntu one feature in
Evolution. I started adding contacts and their addresses into the system
then found that all of the postal address that i had saved into ubuntu
one no longer existed. SO i have lost my addresses. I have not
investigated thoroughly how to reproduce this but all i did was add into
contacts and add extra postal address information then reloaded
evolution a few days later and it was gone.

[Bug 487085] [NEW] segmentation fault when adding a task evolution

2009-11-23 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Expected behavior:

When on the tasks pane in evolution adding a task into the quick task
entry box at the click to add task bar at the top of the tasks list.
Then clicking away from the tasks pane to find some information for the
title in your e-mails. Click back to taks and click to enter the taks
name you have already started to create. Finish and press enter to add
the task to the list.

Actual behavior:

When you click to try and edit the half entered task name in the click to add
task bar evolution seg faults with:
segfault at 5 ip 00aa1440 sp bfa16ea0 error 4 in
libevolution-a11y.so.0.0.0[a98000+13000]

Steps to reproduce:
Start evolution then choose the tasks pane, click on the click here to add task
bar and enter some text, click onto the mail tab then back onto tasks and try
to continue to edit the task name by clicking on it again. When you click you
will seg fault.

[Bug 444120] Re: cannon capt driver daemon does not start both ccpd processes cndrvcups-capt

2009-11-05 Thread TommyBoy
Please see the Ubuntu Documentation for how to configure the Printer
Driver from Canon for Jaunty 9.04 and Karmic 9.10. This is found here:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardwareSupportComponentsPrinters/CanonPrinters/LBP3010

This printer driver is not officially supported by Ubuntu and is not a
bug with Ubuntu. I have submitted details to Canon. Here's hoping.

[Bug 444120] Re: cannon capt driver daemon does not start both ccpd processes cndrvcups-capt

2009-10-06 Thread TommyBoy
There is a workaround, this worked for me in 9.04

Add the attachted init.d script here:

/etc/init.d/ccpd

Make sure you:

sudo chmod a+x /etc/init.d/ccpd

Then install:

sudo apt-get install insserv

Then run

sudo insserv -v

If you have already tried to add it using update-rc.d this will have to
be removed first:

sudo update-rc.d -f ccpd remove

This uses the information from the ccpd file to set the correct run
levels and start the daemon as it should be started. The monitor can be
added into preferences-Startup Application. Use the command:

captstatusui -P LBP3010 -e

changing the printer name to what ever you defined it as in the canon
instructions. The -e keeps it hidden in the background until there is a
problem.

[Bug 444120] [NEW] cannon capt driver daemon does not start both ccpd processes cndrvcups-capt

2009-10-05 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Expected:
After boot, login and running ps -A we should see two seperate ccpd processes
running.
Running /etc/init.dccpd restart, start or stop should have an effect on the
process

Actual:
After boot we get once process for ccpd running. This means that communication
with the printer is broken. Running a init.d restart or a start will fail.
Running stop returns OK but checking in PS or running Status the one process
spawned on startup still remains there.

Killing this process and issuing a start will creat two oricesses which
meak the printer usable.

I do not get different behavior of the printer is on or off after
restarting.

[Bug 440353] Re: ubuntu-bug tool unsuccessful in opening new tab in Firefox with lp page.

2009-10-03 Thread TommyBoy
Karmic i386 9.10 Daily Build - 03/10/09

Expected:
Running ubuntu-bug should launch a new tab/firefox windows on LaunchPad to
report bug.

Actual:
Apport gets to the point where it tramnmits data to launchpad but closes and
nothing more.

Steps to reproduce:
Load one firefox windows
run apport or report a bug from help
submit
disappearts with error on command line:

The program 'firefox' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 620 error_code 3 request_code 20 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Temporary solution:
Close all firefox windows before reporting a bug ;)

My bad we discussed it at our ubuntu Jam session, me being new to the
whole bug reporting process, now realise assigning unknown might have
been better. Sorry.

[Bug 379041] Re: espeak fails with error bt_audio_service_open: connect() failed: Connection refused (111)

2009-10-02 Thread TommyBoy
Same for me on karmic, don't have a bluetooth adapter so I can not test
if enabling the service helps.

espeak:
  Installed: 1.41.01-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1.41.01-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1.41.01-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The speech is cut short using espeak directly on the terminal but when
using speech-dispatcher setup to use pulse the speech is rendered
correctly.

When alsa is specified with speech-dispatcher usind spd-conf there is no
espeak sound output on karmic.

Re: [Bug 384811] Re: New Changes disappear after recovering document without saving

2009-06-08 Thread TommyBoy
Not sure i was trying to write an important document and was
concentrating on the contents but ended up reviewing he changes three
times before i thought that i was going crazy.

At a guess maybe ten minutes or what i suspect is that it was happening
at an auto save.

I can test again with a document and see what i get.

[Bug 379603] Re: ATI 2600 HD Pro PCIe- Broken Sound over HDMI, delayed startup, delays with OSD (vol + compiz), unabled to access Display settings, Crashes in VLC fullscreen

2009-05-23 Thread TommyBoy
Switched on this morning and the sound has stopped working again, there
seems to be something after i installed the new ATI driver from the web
and now nothing again. Pulseaudio is outputting sound but there is
nothing comming through on the monitor speakers again.

Any ideas on how to track this down would be great. The other things the
new driver fixed are still working ok though.

[Bug 379603] [NEW] ATI 2600 HD Pro PCIe- Broken Sound over HDMI, delayed startup, delays with OSD (vol + compiz), unabled to access Display settings, Crashes in VLC fullscreen

2009-05-22 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Right i have just upgraded to 9.04 20th May.

Things have been a little unstable and slow compared to 8.10 when i
enabled my propriety ATI driver for my 2660 HD pro card. Then my sound
broke a day or so after. This was not acceptable so I tried to fix it
thinking the user was at fault but with no success.

So i initially had sound working over HDMI after the base install **
with a pulse audio tweak see end of message. This was not very good
until pulse audio seems to adjust itself.

Then the sound stopped working today 22 May, I was not sure why.

Even after first enabling the propriety driver i experienced problems
using the native display control tool to change settings for the LCD i
am using. It would hang and not load just sitting there or even crash
the machine.

Trying to get VLC to go full screen after setting the video screen to
crop 16:10 and deintelace Bob the screen would blank and them nothing.

There seemed to be a long delay from login to getting a working desktop
with the screen flashing and elements appearing and disappearing.

Eventually the system comes up and was semi stable. After the audio
stopped working i reinstalled the whole system from scratch getting
updates from the internet during install and immediatly after first
boot. The audio again did not work after a fresh install.

After a few hours of work I downloaded the Latest ATI release of the
proprietry driver. This seems to have solved a lot of the issues i was
experiencing with the ubuntu driver version.

Sound now works, startup is smoother, faster and the display panel works
nicely as expected. VLC is untested yet but i don't want to loose this
report.

The AtI version I downloaded from the site was 9-5 and contains version
of the drivers 8.61.2 OpenGL 2.1.8664

As a side note to get sound working on this graphics card i have to make
these changes see: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1009407

[Bug 379606] [NEW] 9.04 and older - ATI 2600 HD Pro PCIe - HDMI config issue

2009-05-22 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Please see this link on the forums about this problem written by me.

 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1009407

Summary: Out of the box pulseaudio/HAL is still not able to pick up the
HDMI sink on the ATI Radeon 2600 HD pro automatically. It still requires
manual configuration on install.

There is a work around detailed on the forum post above hope this helps.

* Please note there was an issue with my ATI graphics card driver and in
an attempt to fault find i did work on the pulseaudio versions to try
and fix the problem the driver was causing.

[Bug 307029] Re: Bug #173135: on 8.10 - USB Microsoft Ergo 4000 keyboard errors continues on 2.6.27-9-generic

2008-12-17 Thread TommyBoy
Problem identified with my motherrboard. For some time my USB hardware
has been seemingly failing on my motherboard. This is a power related
issue. I have my MS keyboard and mouse intellipoint plugged into a Hub
with would normally not overload the 500ma limit.

The problem is the reliability of the USB ports and the amount of power
that each port can provide to the devices connected on my semmingly
faulty hardware. This is why the problem occurs now on both 8.04 and
8.10. This was solved by a PCI USB extention card and I no longer get
any errors from my USB keyboard.

Anyone else getting this error then watch the load you applying across
the USB ports and be aware that they do not always provide the full
500ma, especially when you have a cheap AMD x2 motherboard fron Nvidia.

2008-12-10 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

See Bug #173135:

This details the exact same behaviour that i am getting on myy new 8.10
installation. After a recent update I was lso having problems with 8.04.
I am getting the repearint keys and having to unplug sometimes. Usually
hitting backspace is enought to stop the character from repeating. This
happens for any keys eeen the multimedia keys.

dmesg gives:

usb-:00:02.1-3.3
[ 3290.669829] usbhid: input irq status -75 received... this message is
repeatted over and over again about 50 times this number seems to accumalate as
