@Ti: you're facing a different bug, which does appear to be more serious. [Bug 868508] [NEW] Cannot set up multi-monitor display using fglrx
Public bug reported: I have 3 monitors, and I've been trying to set them up side-by-side using the Displays tool. They're all mirrored by default. After dragging around the rectangles and clicking Apply, I get this error: required virtual size does not fit available size: requested=(6400, 1440), minimum=(320, 200), maximum=(2560, 2560) I'm wondering if it's a driver limitation, or a small glitch that can be fixed. I tried setting up my multi-monitor environment using the ATI/AMD craptastic tool, but it crashes on Oneiric (used to work on Natty). In fact, on Natty, I used the AMD tool (amdcccle) to set up a rough approximation of what I wanted, and then I used Displays to arrange the screens nicely, because the UI has snap-to-edge and snap-to-center. The fact that this worked makes me hope it'd be possible to have Displays set up my monitors without the help of amdcccle. [Bug 804841] [NEW] Can't switch to PinYin mode in the compose IME
Public bug reported: The compose IME displays a bar that has, among other things, 3 colored circles for tweaking the options. Up until maverick, clicking on the first (light green) circle would switch the IME to pinyin mode, which has sequences such as i) - i with a circumflex hat. The light green circle turned light blue (teal?) to acknowledge the transition. In 11.04, clicking the circle doesn't do anything. I also tried using the right Shift key, as documented in http://code.google.com/p/ibus/wiki/TableReadme and it also didn't do anything. I was expecting a circle color change and, most importantly, being able to type the extra characters. Thank you for your help! [Bug 775367] [NEW] Keep In Launcher creates shortcut to wrong binary
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity I downloaded Eclipse 3.6.2 in ~/eclipse and I launched ~/eclipse/eclipse using the File Manager. I right-clicked on the Launcher icon and selected Keep In Launcher. Then I exited Eclipse, and launched it again using the Launcher shortcut. To my surprise, the packaged Eclipse (version 3.5.2) was launched. Clarifications: I have Ubuntu's packaged version installed because it's an easy way to get all the dependencies. I don't use it because it's old. This bug is about the Launcher icon pointing to the wrong binary, not about updating Eclipse. Workaround: I can get correct behavior through a cumbersome process. I created a menu entry for Eclipse 3.6.2, I used it to launch Eclipse, and I right-clicked on the Launcher icon and selected Keep In Launcher. That results in a proper shortcut. I used these instructions for creating the menu entry: http://askubuntu.com/questions/13758/how-can-i -edit-create-new-launcher-items-in-unity-by-hand/30530#30530 It seems like Unity uses some heuristic to decide that my process maps to the Eclipse icon, and the heuristic doesn't account for the binary's full path. I think the behavior is confusing and can result in frustration, and should be fixed. Thank you very much! [Bug 764382] [NEW] unity hooks up app menu to Hyper key
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity I upgraded to 11.04 and love unity, with the exception of the fact that it stole Hyper away from me. I got 2 more crash notices while filling out this report, so I think the bug will show up in a consistent manner. [Bug 634571] Re: vinagre fails to connect to any VNC server
@Robbie: To me, having a package installed by default in a distribution is an implicit endorsement for the package, and a guarantee that the developers have tested the package, and it works for most cases. I am extremely grateful for everything that Ubuntu is doing, and I'm trying to give back a bit, by running beta builds and reporting bugs. However, I do agree with @waspinator's last point -- if a package is known to be completely broken, it should be pulled out. Broken auto- installed applications ruin the image of both Ubuntu and all Linux-based distributions. This bug has been reported a month ago, is a clear show-stopper for the app, and has a patch that seems to get the package in a better state (clearly broken - maybe broken in a subtle way). If nothing is done about it by the time 10.10 ships, I will consider that the time I'm spending testing and filing bugs is wasted. -- vinagre fails to connect to any VNC server https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/634571 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In case it helps figure things out, the 10.04.1 setup shows the Ubuntu logo when loading up (KMS, I'm assuming), and 10.10 shows Ubuntu and blinking dots in text mode. -- Dell inspiron mini 1010 (Atom Z530 1Gb RAM) won't boot after installing Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/641161 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 641795] [NEW] Remote Desktop Viewer refuses to connect to vino server on 10.04.1 i386
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vinagre I'm running a VNC server that I set up via System Preferences Remote Desktop. The server is running Ubuntu 10.04.1 i386, updated tonight. When connecting, I get an error dialog with no window title, heading Connection closed, text Connection to host pwnall's remote desktop on lightbulb2 was closed.. My server shows up in vinagre's Hosts nearby list. I tried connecting by clicking on that entry, and by clicking on the Connect button and setting up the connection manually. I installed TightVNC Viewer via the vncviewer package, and it works. Please let me know if there is any other information that I can supply to help. [Bug 634703] [NEW] /usr/bin/ruby should use the alternatives system
Public bug reported: ruby1.8, ruby1.9, and ruby1.9.1 should set up their binaries using Debian's alternatives system, so I can easily choose which one I want. Ideally, the choices for related binaries (rubygems and irb) would be linked to the choice of ruby. I am interested in this change because I would like to use ruby 1.9.2 (available as ruby1.9.1) for much of my development work, and I'd like to switch to it on my production servers. [Bug 635474] [NEW] Stuck trying to fetch update files from the internet
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity I tried to install 10.10 live (desktop i386), and my Internet connection is not very reliable. The connection went down for a few minutes, and I'm pretty sure it happened while ubiquity was fetching the updated package lists -- the status got stuck at fetching file 2 of 6. I tried pressing the Skip button, but that did nothing. In the end, I had to restart the installation process. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Stuck trying to fetch update files from the internet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/635474 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 632284] [NEW] gnome-terminal is slow during vertical scrolling
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal Reproduce by typing the following command in a blank shell for i in {1..200}; do echo Some random echo output for line $i; done The following methods for scrolling are significantly slower than in OSX's Terminal.app (I believe they're also slower than in previous versions of Ubuntu, but I don't have anything handy to test): * mouse-wheel scrolling * clicking near the top of the scroll bar when all the way at the bottom * clicking near the bottom of the scroll bar when all the way at the top * clicking on either the top or the bottom arrow of the scroll bar This bug makes it really hard for me to do development work in Ubuntu. [Bug 632011] [NEW] gnome-language-selector won't install language support
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: language-selector I tried to install support for Chinese (simplified and traditional) input methods and extra fonts. When I clicked Apply Changes, it popped a dialog titled Software database is broken, saying It is impossible to install or remove any software. Please use the package manager Synaptic or run sudo apt-get install -f in a terminal to fix this issue at first. I've been using this method for installing pinyin input since Ubuntu 9.10, and it worked until now.
