[Bug 1809552] [NEW] Ubuntu sees duplicate display for each graphics card on Macbook Pro

2018-12-22 Thread Anish Moorthy
Public bug reported:

After booting Ubuntu in BIOS mode on my machine for years, I just
switched over to EFI boot. The reason for which I switched is that, on
this machine, Ubuntu cannot detect the integrated GPU under BIOS boot.

Ubuntu now recognizes both integrated and discrete GPU on my machine,
but it also seems to think I have two monitors.

Expected Behavior: Ubuntu properly recognizes that both graphics cards
are in fact controlling the same display

Actual Behavior: Ubuntu thinks I have two displays (each being
controlled by a separate card?). If I navigate to the "Devices >
Displays" section of the settings app, then Ubuntu lists two "Built in
Displays," and offers options to "Join Displays," mirror them, etc.

I have created a question on AskUbuntu
(https://askubuntu.com/questions/1103696/ubuntu-duplicates-display-for-
each-graphics-card-fresh-install) detailing this issue; it presents much
of the same information in this bug report, along with several images.

I have also discovered a similar thread from three years ago
(https://askubuntu.com/questions/582574/my-macbook-has-two-built-in-
displays) suggesting that I am not the only Macbook user to suffer from
this issue. The user in said thread worked around this issue by powering
off his iGPU. I would like to set up graphics switching in the future,
so this is not an option for me. In any case, I have tested his
"solution" and it DOES NOT work on my machine (I also don't have a
/sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo folder like he apparently does)

[Bug 1797177] [NEW] virsh console hangs for the first time

2018-10-10 Thread Anish Gupta
Private bug reported:

PROBLEM:
Only when a non-GPU (CPU) VM is launched using our tools, the Guest OS
image, creates a VM, however connecting over console doesn’t work.

WAR:
A ‘virsh reset/reboot’ or ‘ssh in to VM; followed by reboot’ brings back
console over ‘virsh console’

STEPS to Reproduce:

Login to DGX-2
ssh dgxuser@10.31.229.162 (DGXrox!)
Launch a CPU VM
nvidia-vm [ –-domain ] -–gpu-index 0 –-gpu-count 0

virsh console<< hangs

BTW:DGX-2 User Guide, https://docs.nvidia.com/dgx/pdf/dgx2-user-guide.pdf,
chapter 11 discusses nvidia-vm tool.

Path to our Guest OS image:

RCA done so far:
Problem is with our Guest OS images, haven’t seen with Stock ubuntu or
cloudinit images
We traced it back to couple of months ago, where it used to work.
Also, not an issue when we launch GPU based VMs
Verified CONFIG_FHANDLE is configured inside the VM (with the image )

[Bug 1693419] [NEW] theme elements like detail box in software updater have become small

2017-05-24 Thread Anish Majumder
Public bug reported:

theme elements like detail box in software updater have become small. This
appeared after the upgrade to yakkety. Occurs in all themes.
there were also problems like misaligned close buttons in other themes, which
got solved after I ran this:
sudo apt-get autoremove --purge light-themes
sudo apt-get install light-themes

but didn't solve the problems like the detail box. These are small in
all themes now.

[Bug 1683889] Re: complete system freeze after update to 17.04

2017-05-15 Thread Anish Sane
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1674838 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1674838

I am facing this issue too.
Complete system freeze after 17.04 upgrade. numlock/capslock also don't toggle.

Firefox was always running on my system, when this issue was hit. It
already hit 4-5 times in last 3 days.

I was using gnome flashback metacity desktop.

I will try using kernel from 16.10 and update here.

[Bug 1573454] Re: Mouse pointer disappear after suspend in Xubuntu 16.04

2016-05-20 Thread Anish Narayanan
I have a similar issue on xubuntu 16.04 whenever I lock the screen or
suspend the monitor. When I log back in the mouse cursor is missing.
However, when I hit alt-tab to switch applications, the mouse reappears!
I am not sure why this works, but it does for me. Can anyone else
confirm if this works for them? The tty switch (with ctrl-alt-f2 and
ctrl-alt-f7) mentioned in other comments works for me as well.

[Bug 1518370] [NEW] Bootp times takes longer

2015-11-20 Thread Anish kumar
Public bug reported:

In Edubuntu 14.04.3 booting lasts extremely long (several minutes!).
This may have to do with the support for mobile broadband modems
(not for wifi, which is something entirely different).

So as per bug in260866 it takes a long time to reboot
after pressing power button for restart .

Please help to check the possibility of OS
or kernel optimization to reduce booting time.

[Bug 1400413] Re: Chelsio cxgb4 driver cannot load firmware

2015-08-27 Thread Anish Bhatt
A little late, but should not matter to driver. (I work at Chelsio) The
firmware load is just an info message, in case firmware load fails,
driver will fallback to using firmware already flashed in card. Drivers
for 1.12.25.0 are backwards compatible with 1.9.23.0

That said, Direct firmware load failed with error -2 indicates the firmware
file was not found in userspace. -2 is ENOENT (file not found) Hard to say
without full update-initramfs output, but
rm -f ./lib/firmware/cxgb4/t5fw.bin
rm -f ./lib/firmware/cxgb4/t4fw.bin

looks suspicious to me.

[Bug 1058515] Re: inheriting environmental variables when creating new terminal window or tab

2014-11-24 Thread Anish Sane
If I create new terminal using Open Tab or Open Terminal, I get a fresh
terminal. This is sometimes what I want but sometimes not.
We can possibly have an array holding names of such variables, which need to be
'exported' to the new tab.
Or, we can have a checkbox in gnome-terminal menus, if we want to inherit
variables or not.
Or, we can have 2 separate menu items: new tab, new tabs with environment

Currently, I am using a dirty trick of writing them to a file in /tmp
via PROMPT_COMMAND then reading it via .bashrc. But it is clearly
inefficient error prone.

[Bug 1170647] Re: Clicking on Nautilus’ launcher icon opens new window instead of restoring the minimized one when browsing external drives/locations

2014-06-30 Thread Anish Dowlut
Another workaround besides unpinning the nautilus icon, is this:

sudo mv /usr/share/applications/nautilus.desktop
/usr/share/applications/nautilus2.desktop
sudo mv /usr/share/applications/nautilus-folder-handler.desktop
/usr/share/applications/nautilus-folder-handler2.desktop
sudo mv /usr/share/applications/nautilus-home.desktop
/usr/share/applications/nautilus-home2.desktop

We're basically just renaming a few .desktop files related to nautilus.
This will prevent the launcher from recognizing nautilus as a file
manager and it won't execute the buggy behaviour.

However, when the bug has been fixed within unity itself, you should
rename the all the .desktop files back to their original names.

[Bug 1170647] Re: Clicking on Nautilus’ launcher icon opens new window instead of restoring the minimized one when browsing external drives/locations

2014-06-26 Thread Anish Dowlut
The behaviour described in this bug report was introduced as a fix for
bug #753938. Thus, the solution for bug #753938 is actually the source
of problem for this bug report. In order to fix this bug, the changes
made for bug #753938 has to be reverted. I've located the appropriate
code section, commented it out and re-compiled unity. That resolved the
problem. I've already submitted the fix. I've attached a diff file to
show the changes I made to the unity source code.

Nautilus version: 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu9.1
Unity version: 7.2.1+14.04.20140513-0ubuntu2

Sometimes, when you already have a nautilus window opened and you switch
to another application, if you the click Files icon in the Unity
launcher to switch back to that nautilus window, a new nautilus window
is opened instead simply showing the nautilus window that was already
opened.

Steps to reproduce problem:
0. Close all nautilus windows.
1. Click on the Files icon in the Unity launcher to open a new nautilus
window.
2. On the left pane of nautilus, under the Devices section, open a partition or
hard drive of your computer which is not the root partition of your Ubuntu
installation.
3. Switch to any other application (such as the Caculator or a Terminal window)
using the Unity launcher.
4. Click on the Files icon in the Unity launcher to switch back to the
nautilus window that you had opened.

Expected behaviour: The nautilus window opened in step 1 is focused.
Actual behaviour: A new nautilus window is opened.

The problem can be reproduced by the following steps as well:
0. Make sure no nautilus window is opened.
1. Click on the Trash icon in the Unity launcher.
2. Click on the Files icon in the Unity laucher.

Expected behaviour: The nautilus window which opened when the Trash icon was
clicked is focused.
Actual behaviour: A new nautilus window is opened.

The reason I believe that the bug lies within nautilus is because I
tried the first set of steps with the Thunar file browser and the
problem did not occur. However, it could be a bug within the Unity
launcher as well.

Thanks! I used the Ubuntu Startup Disk Creator from the corrupt drive to
create a new boot media and was able to install quantal.

This is likely the result of corrupt media. I'd try recreating the disk
or using a tool other than unetbootin to create the boot media.

[Bug 898870] Re: Grid placed window overlaps the adjacent viewport

2013-01-17 Thread Anish Narayanan
I noticed that the degree to which the overlap is present on the next
workspace is based on the width of the window borders listed in the
user's theme. I edited the metacity-theme-1.xml file for my theme to
resolve this problem. Simply go to the section of the file listing
frame_geometry name=frame_geometry_normal ... and underneath that,
set left_width and right_width to 0 (set bottom_height to zero for
visual consistency). This gets rid of the overhang, but I think the
shadow is still present in the adjacent workspace. Setting the width to
anything other than zero leads to an overhang that is twice that width
on the next workspace.

[Bug 662299] Re: Soundcard not detected

2011-04-30 Thread Anish Asokan
I installed ubunto 11.04 (amd64) today.
Same problem, VT1708/A [Azalia HDAC] using snd-hda-intel (driver)

aplay -l
was showing no soundcards detected.

I searched through many forums and ended up on this page.
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16921#c5

go read the Comment #5 (its like:)
Finally got sound using pci=use_crs on the grub boot line. Don't know what the
hell this does but at least sound works and no kernel oops at boot.

so what I did:

I took a backup of /etc/default/grub to /root/etc_default_grub_backup

then

opened the file /etc/default/grub with my favorite editor vi.

find the line

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash

modify it like

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash pci=use_crs

save the file (/etc/default/grub)

after saving the file I ran update-grub like

sudo update-grub

then I restarted my ubuntu 11.04.

yes perfect the sound is there!!

now if you check aplay -l

I learned 3 things...

1] Try the live CD before installing.
2] Check if the basic hardware is working from the live cd.
3] If yes go ahead installing it, if not then don't install.

Only trust the Ubuntu LTS versions.

[Bug 662299] Re: Soundcard not detected

2010-10-24 Thread Anish Asokan
hi,

Today I built a new custom amd64 kernel from 2.6.36 sources.
I Installed it on my Ubuntu 10.10. I restarted my Ubuntu with new custom kernel
and checked aplay -l still it was showing.

device_list:235: no soundcards found...

Even inside the new kernel (2.6.36) I am getting some kernel messages
like : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-
driver/+bug/662299/comments/13

So, I decided to downgraded myself to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS AMD64. Now my
sound card is getting detected.

an...@logika:~$ aplay -l
 List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices
card 0: VT82xx [HDA VIA VT82xx], device 0: AD198x Analog [AD198x Analog]

card 0: VT82xx [HDA VIA VT82xx], device 1: AD198x Digital [AD198x Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I don't know whats happening wrong here in Ubuntu 10.10. Going back into
Ubuntu 10.04 feels like little old... but I am happy everything is
working fine here.

But some day I would love to be back in Ubuntu 10.10 or higher... Please
don't ignore my sound-card in next release. :-)

greetings!

[Bug 590000] [NEW] firefox hangs for the duration adobe-flash-plugin is being installed

2010-06-05 Thread Anish
Public bug reported:

OS Description: Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release: 10.10-alpha1-amd64

Package Information

Bug Description

On firefox, when a site containing flash was opened, the usual popup suggesting
to install missing plugins appeared. When I clicked the searh/install button,
the plugin finder service launched as expected and suggested some options of
available flash plugins. When I tried to install the Adobe flash plugin
(which was one of the listed options), the firefox screen froze until the
plugin was downloaded and actually installed. In parallel, another window
appeared suggesting that I either Force Quit the application or Wait
further (I obviously waited ;-) ).

This is probably more of a annoyance than a bug, but should be corrected
nevertheless.

[Bug 590102] [NEW] gedit window titlebar shows a star '*' against saved files

2010-06-05 Thread Anish
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Distribution

OS Description: Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release: 10.10-alpha1-amd64
System Architecture: amd64

Package
==
gedit:
  Installed: 2.30.2-1ubuntu1

  Version table:
 *** 2.30.2-1ubuntu1 0
500 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Actions to reproduce the bug
==
1. Open a NEW file in gedit (just type gedit in at the command prompt).
2. Edit it. As soon as you edit it, the current file's tab and the window
titlebar will show a star against the file, suggesting that it has been
modified and NOT saved.
3. Save it by Ctrl+S giving any name to the file.
4. The star in the current file's tab header disappears but the window's title
bar still incorrectly shows a star against the filename.

[Bug 564841] Re: sound track progress bar disabled when using banshee with a bluetooth headset

2010-04-17 Thread Anish
Hi Chow Loong Jin,

Please see the responses inlined:

you are meant to use pulsesink and then use the sound preferences or
something to do with PulseAudio to shift Banshee dynamically to the bluetooth
headset. Why don't you try that instead?

That is what I try to do initially but it has never worked for me till date and
I have to use the aforementioned command.
The Bluetooth headset in question is a Dell BH200 which has never worked out of
the box(i.e. with a GUI) with Ubuntu.

This actually sounds like a Gstreamer issue.
'
Do you mean this bug should be reported elsewhere/reassigned?

Cheers,
Anish Mangal

[Bug 527458] Re: please include status messages/tooltips

2010-04-16 Thread Anish
I have been using lucid-beta2 for the past week or so and find the
missing tooltip an annoyance.

This is particularly accentuated by the fact that nearly every other
icon in that area has informative tooltips integrated, eg. sound,
network, date. Further, nearly every app that has an icon in that area
boasts of meaningful tooltips.

When trying to report a potential bug in apt using the command

Following things happen:
1. A report is created and a dialog box appears prompting me to send it and
informing that a browser window will open soon after.

2. When I try to send the report, a progress bar indicates that some
activity is happening. However, after some time passes I get the
following error:

~~
Cannot connect to crash database, please check your Internet connection.

HTTP Error 500: Internal Server Error

3. After this, the another dialog box appears which prompts me to close
the window. Upon closing, the application closes.

When I try press the cancel button when the bug report is 'apparently' being

[Bug 540669] [NEW] alsamixer fails after gdm shutdown

2010-03-17 Thread anish
Public bug reported:

I have a 32 bit Karmic system that I run headlessly. Alsamixer works
fine as long gnome is running, but fails to load if gdm is shutdown

# sudo stop gdm
# alsamixer

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or
directory

Restarting gdm makes no difference, I need to reboot the system. But it
works fine as long as I don't shutdown gdm. mpg123 also works correctly,
only alsamixer has an issue

[Bug 304475] Re: Wireless mouse stops working after a few minutes of operation

2009-12-13 Thread anish
I see this bug with a logitech cordless desktop wave pro keyboard and mouse.
When the mouse stops working, special keys on the keyboard also cease to
function. It happens with any window manager, gnome, kde or xmonad. Restarting
X will occasiaonally fix it. Usually a reboot is required.
I can provide any logs, please let me know.

[Bug 392768] [NEW] 2 problems (card reader and screen brightness control) with Ubuntu 9.04 on Gateway M-7315u

2009-06-26 Thread Anish Sugunan
Public bug reported:

Card Reader does not function inspite of being 'seen' by Ubuntu Jaunty
9.04. Have checked multiple forums but no luck.

bitchki...@bitchkilla-laptop:~$ lspci | grep SD
07:09.2 SD Host controller: O2 Micro, Inc. Integrated MMC/SD Controller (rev 02)

This is the card reader. Please let me know if you require any
additional information.

Additionally (not a very important thing) I would need to control laptop
brightness using the Fn keys which is not working the way it should. It
goes from high to low but nothing beyond that. I am using the ext4
filesystem.

still broken. not fixed for me with alpha 4. I see the frequency change

Correction, XF86AudioPause or XF86AudioPlay is not assignable in only
some apps. Keyboard and mouse settings lets you use that key, usable in
kopete also. Have not tested any other apps. However, still unassignable
in kaffeine, Amarok Amarok 2.

2008-12-11 Thread anish
Distribution upgrade does not solve this problem, you need to recompile
the kernel manually. And you seem to have commented on the wrong bug,
Bug#252291 is the bug for the older kernel, this is the bug for the
newer version.

** Description changed:

+ kde 4.1.2 requires an upgrade to gtk-qt-engine. the kde4 version removes
