[Bug 1809552] [NEW] Ubuntu sees duplicate display for each graphics card on Macbook Pro
Public bug reported: After booting Ubuntu in BIOS mode on my machine for years, I just switched over to EFI boot. The reason for which I switched is that, on this machine, Ubuntu cannot detect the integrated GPU under BIOS boot. Ubuntu now recognizes both integrated and discrete GPU on my machine, but it also seems to think I have two monitors. Expected Behavior: Ubuntu properly recognizes that both graphics cards are in fact controlling the same display Actual Behavior: Ubuntu thinks I have two displays (each being controlled by a separate card?). If I navigate to the "Devices > Displays" section of the settings app, then Ubuntu lists two "Built in Displays," and offers options to "Join Displays," mirror them, etc. I have created a question on AskUbuntu (https://askubuntu.com/questions/1103696/ubuntu-duplicates-display-for- each-graphics-card-fresh-install) detailing this issue; it presents much of the same information in this bug report, along with several images. I have also discovered a similar thread from three years ago (https://askubuntu.com/questions/582574/my-macbook-has-two-built-in- displays) suggesting that I am not the only Macbook user to suffer from this issue. The user in said thread worked around this issue by powering off his iGPU. I would like to set up graphics switching in the future, so this is not an option for me. In any case, I have tested his "solution" and it DOES NOT work on my machine (I also don't have a /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo folder like he apparently does) SYSTEM INFORMATION OS Version: Ubuntu (64-bit) 18.04.1 Kernel: 4.15.0-43-generic GRAPHICS CARD INFORMATION == $ lshw -c video *-display description: VGA compatible controller product: GK107M [GeForce GT 650M Mac Edition] vendor: NVIDIA Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: pci@:01:00.0 version: a1 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom configuration: driver=nouveau latency=0 resources: irq:45 memory:c000-c0ff memory:9000-9fff memory:a000-a1ff ioport:2000(size=128) memory:c100-c107 *-display description: VGA compatible controller product: 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 2 bus info: pci@:00:02.0 version: 09 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: msi pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list configuration: driver=i915 latency=0 resources: irq:47 memory:c140-c17f memory:b000-bfff ioport:3000(size=64) MORE GRAPHICS CARD INFORMATION == $ lspci | grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK107M [GeForce GT 650M Mac Edition] (rev a1) DISPLAY CONFIGURATION INFO (1) == NOTE: In this diagnostic, I have chosen the "Single Display" option via the System Settings app. Only one of the two "built-in displays" is actually usable, selecting the other just gives me a black screen until my changes are auto-reverted $ xrandr - q Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1440 x 900, maximum 16384 x 16384 LVDS-1 connected primary 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 331mm x 207mm 1440x900 59.90*+ 1152x864 59.97 1024x768 59.95 800x600 59.96 640x480 59.94 720x400 59.97 640x400 59.96 640x350 59.84 DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) LVDS-1-2 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 1440x900 59.90 + 59.89 1400x900 59.9659.88 1440x810 60.0059.97 1368x768 59.8859.85 1360x768 59.8059.96 1280x800 59.9959.9759.8159.91 1152x864 60.00 1280x720 60.0059.9959.8659.74 1024x768 60.0460.00 960x720 60.00 928x696 60.05 896x672 60.01 1024x576 59.9559.9659.9059.82 960x600 59.9360.00 960x540 59.9659.9959.6359.82 800x600 60.0060.3256.25 840x525 60.0159.88 864x486 59.9259.57 800x512 60.17 700x525 59.98 800x450 59.9559.82 640x512 60.02 720x450 59.89 700x450 59.9659.88 640x480 60.0059.94 720x405 59.5158.99 684x384 59.8859.85 680x384 59.8059.96 640x400 59.8859.98 576x432 60.06 640x360 59.8659.8359.8459.32 512x384 60.00 512x288 60.0059.92 480x270 59.6359.82 400x300

A little late, but should not matter to driver. (I work at Chelsio) The firmware load is just an info message, in case firmware load fails, driver will fallback to using firmware already flashed in card. Drivers for 1.12.25.0 are backwards compatible with 1.9.23.0 That said, Direct firmware load failed with error -2 indicates the firmware file was not found in userspace. -2 is ENOENT (file not found) Hard to say without full update-initramfs output, but rm -f ./lib/firmware/cxgb4/t5fw.bin rm -f ./lib/firmware/cxgb4/t4fw.bin looks suspicious to me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1400413 Title: Chelsio cxgb4 driver cannot load firmware To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/1400413/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1058515] Re: inheriting environmental variables when creating new terminal window or tab
If I create new terminal using Open Tab or Open Terminal, I get a fresh terminal. This is sometimes what I want but sometimes not. We can possibly have an array holding names of such variables, which need to be 'exported' to the new tab. Or, we can have a checkbox in gnome-terminal menus, if we want to inherit variables or not. Or, we can have 2 separate menu items: new tab, new tabs with environment Currently, I am using a dirty trick of writing them to a file in /tmp via PROMPT_COMMAND then reading it via .bashrc. But it is clearly inefficient error prone. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058515 Title: inheriting environmental variables when creating new terminal window or tab To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1058515/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1170647] Re: Clicking on Nautilus’ launcher icon opens new window instead of restoring the minimized one when browsing external drives/locations
Another workaround besides unpinning the nautilus icon, is this: sudo mv /usr/share/applications/nautilus.desktop /usr/share/applications/nautilus2.desktop sudo mv /usr/share/applications/nautilus-folder-handler.desktop /usr/share/applications/nautilus-folder-handler2.desktop sudo mv /usr/share/applications/nautilus-home.desktop /usr/share/applications/nautilus-home2.desktop We're basically just renaming a few .desktop files related to nautilus. This will prevent the launcher from recognizing nautilus as a file manager and it won't execute the buggy behaviour. However, when the bug has been fixed within unity itself, you should rename the all the .desktop files back to their original names. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1170647 Title: Clicking on Nautilus’ launcher icon opens new window instead of restoring the minimized one when browsing external drives/locations To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bamf/+bug/1170647/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1170647] Re: Clicking on Nautilus’ launcher icon opens new window instead of restoring the minimized one when browsing external drives/locations
The behaviour described in this bug report was introduced as a fix for bug #753938. Thus, the solution for bug #753938 is actually the source of problem for this bug report. In order to fix this bug, the changes made for bug #753938 has to be reverted. I've located the appropriate code section, commented it out and re-compiled unity. That resolved the problem. I've already submitted the fix. I've attached a diff file to show the changes I made to the unity source code. ** Attachment added: diff https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1170647/+attachment/4139820/+files/diff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1170647 Title: Clicking on Nautilus’ launcher icon opens new window instead of restoring the minimized one when browsing external drives/locations To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bamf/+bug/1170647/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1332578] [NEW] When clicking the Files icon in the Unity launcher, instead of switching to the already opened nautilus window, a new nautilus window is opened
Public bug reported: Ubuntu version: 14.04 LTS Nautilus version: 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu9.1 Unity version: 7.2.1+14.04.20140513-0ubuntu2 Sometimes, when you already have a nautilus window opened and you switch to another application, if you the click Files icon in the Unity launcher to switch back to that nautilus window, a new nautilus window is opened instead simply showing the nautilus window that was already opened. Steps to reproduce problem: 0. Close all nautilus windows. 1. Click on the Files icon in the Unity launcher to open a new nautilus window. 2. On the left pane of nautilus, under the Devices section, open a partition or hard drive of your computer which is not the root partition of your Ubuntu installation. 3. Switch to any other application (such as the Caculator or a Terminal window) using the Unity launcher. 4. Click on the Files icon in the Unity launcher to switch back to the nautilus window that you had opened. Expected behaviour: The nautilus window opened in step 1 is focused. Actual behaviour: A new nautilus window is opened. The problem can be reproduced by the following steps as well: 0. Make sure no nautilus window is opened. 1. Click on the Trash icon in the Unity launcher. 2. Click on the Files icon in the Unity laucher. Expected behaviour: The nautilus window which opened when the Trash icon was clicked is focused. Actual behaviour: A new nautilus window is opened. The reason I believe that the bug lies within nautilus is because I tried the first set of steps with the Thunar file browser and the problem did not occur. However, it could be a bug within the Unity launcher as well. [Bug 1169010] [NEW] Installer for Ubuntu 12.10 fails with some apt-get cd install issue?
Public bug reported: I have tried installing ubuntu 12.10 now twice on my laptop. The first time, I got the same error message along the lines of what is listed in the summary, but it just said installation was complete. I had a grub rescue error, so I tried the live USB again (made by unetbootin). This time, I got the error message, but the installation terminated. I probably should just redownload the iso file, as I have successfully installed ubuntu on this laptop in the past (including quantal). [Bug 898870] Re: Grid placed window overlaps the adjacent viewport
I noticed that the degree to which the overlap is present on the next workspace is based on the width of the window borders listed in the user's theme. I edited the metacity-theme-1.xml file for my theme to resolve this problem. Simply go to the section of the file listing frame_geometry name=frame_geometry_normal ... and underneath that, set left_width and right_width to 0 (set bottom_height to zero for visual consistency). This gets rid of the overhang, but I think the shadow is still present in the adjacent workspace. Setting the width to anything other than zero leads to an overhang that is twice that width on the next workspace. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/898870 Title: Grid placed window overlaps the adjacent viewport To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/898870/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 662299] Re: Soundcard not detected
I installed ubunto 11.04 (amd64) today. Same problem, VT1708/A [Azalia HDAC] using snd-hda-intel (driver) aplay -l was showing no soundcards detected. I searched through many forums and ended up on this page. https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16921#c5 go read the Comment #5 (its like:) Finally got sound using pci=use_crs on the grub boot line. Don't know what the hell this does but at least sound works and no kernel oops at boot. so what I did: I took a backup of /etc/default/grub to /root/etc_default_grub_backup then opened the file /etc/default/grub with my favorite editor vi. find the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash modify it like GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash pci=use_crs save the file (/etc/default/grub) after saving the file I ran update-grub like sudo update-grub then I restarted my ubuntu 11.04. yes perfect the sound is there!! now if you check aplay -l List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices card 0: VT82xx [HDA VIA VT82xx], device 0: AD198x Analog [AD198x Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: VT82xx [HDA VIA VT82xx], device 1: AD198x Digital [AD198x Digital] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 thats it. if you want to know more about the bug follow: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16921 Thanks Anish ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #16921 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16921 ** Summary changed: - Soundcard not detected + [solved] Soundcard not detected -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/662299 Title: [solved] Soundcard not detected -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 662299] Re: Soundcard not detected
hi, Today I built a new custom amd64 kernel from 2.6.36 sources. I Installed it on my Ubuntu 10.10. I restarted my Ubuntu with new custom kernel and checked aplay -l still it was showing. device_list:235: no soundcards found... Even inside the new kernel (2.6.36) I am getting some kernel messages like : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa- driver/+bug/662299/comments/13 So, I decided to downgraded myself to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS AMD64. [Bug 564841] Re: sound track progress bar disabled when using banshee with a bluetooth headset
Hi Chow Loong Jin, Please see the responses inlined: you are meant to use pulsesink and then use the sound preferences or something to do with PulseAudio to shift Banshee dynamically to the bluetooth headset. Why don't you try that instead? That is what I try to do initially but it has never worked for me till date and I have to use the aforementioned command. The Bluetooth headset in question is a Dell BH200 which has never worked out of the box(i.e. with a GUI) with Ubuntu. This actually sounds like a Gstreamer issue.
