[Bug 787802] Re: Update Manager hangs waiting for response to apt-listchanges hidden under Details

2011-06-20 Thread jarondl
I have this issue too.
While I want to keep the current apt-listchanges behavior when issued from the
command line (with apt-get), there is no point showing the changes in the
graphical update manager, as they are already shown.

The odd thing, is that I believe update manager already tries (and fails) to
address this issue. See the following code line:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/natty/update-manager/natty/view/head:/UpdateManager/UpdateManager.py#L772

[Bug 347146] Re: EDID fail, intel 3100, Viewsonic VA712

2009-03-23 Thread jarondl
Oddly, the problem fixed itself..
After a week with the problem, It's suddenly fixed!
the only changes I did to the system, are to install the read-edid and
xresprobe packages, to detect my edid.
After using them a couple of times, xrandr -q suddenly reported the correct
resolutions.
The only reason I can come up with, is the those packages brought with them new
capabilities to xrandr. Maybe something to do with EDID 2.0.
Anyway, after a reboot, everything wors fine!
(I still consider it a bug, as my screen was blurred for a whole week:))

Thanks for your help,
  Jaron

Removed the packages, and xrandr stil produces the correct modes.
I find the hardware explanation odd, as the screen did work good, and I moved
the cable around a couple of times during the week with no viewable outcomes,
but it's possible.

[Bug 309325] Re: sudo segmentation fault [ubuntu 8.10]

2008-12-25 Thread jarondl
That's a good point.
You have to restart, and get to the GRUB menu (mostly done by hitting ESC
during boot)
Then you choose the entry that has (Recovery) on it.
When asked what you wish to do, choose get Root shell or something like that.
Well, that should give your root rights, and then you can apt-get purge samba
samba-common
Good luck!

2008-01-27 Thread jarondl
I've succeeded in reconfiguring xorg, and now I can change the resolution by
System Preferences Screen resolution.
first, and MOST IMPORTENT, backup your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.
the following command might wreck your graphical system..Do it only if you safe
about going to other tty's and trying to recover X

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

and then restart X by log-out. (no, ctrl+alt+backspace doesn't seem to do
enough)
Good luck

like mikko sorri, I've tried dpkg-reconfigure, but it doesn't ask anything
