[Bug 1532400] [NEW] ubuntu 15.10 separate drive from Win 10 and UEFI partions on other drive

2016-01-08 Thread Mickey Lowy
Public bug reported:

Windows 8.1 Pro is upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. The SDC (SSD 256GB
Samsung)drive has sdc1 uefi partion of 350Mb (shows as NTFS, not FAT32 -
Windows set it up that way), the the rest of the drive is Win 10.

Trying to install Ubuntu 15.10 on empty SDA drive (SSD 500GB Samsung).
Swap file is on SDD drive.

I have turned off everything I can think of and it still won't load. I
turned off BIOS settings in ASUS X99 Mobo (as I understand them from the
Ubuntu instructions (fast boot, Intel tech, Security set to Other OS))

In Windows , I turned off hibernate (Never) and fast restart (never)

What other hoops do I have to jumped through to get Ubuntu loaded??

Sorry, this is not a bug in Krita. You need to report this to Ubuntu. What
happened here is that Ubuntu put the sketch paintop in the kritasketch package,
which was wrong, so now it's in the krita package, and I guess that that gives
this problem.

-- You are receiving this mail because: You reported the bug.

I have tried everything dpkg --configure -a, apt-get clean, apt-get
etc, etc,.

Any idea how to overcome this error??

[Bug 917446] [NEW] switch_root does not allow switching to a non-block device as the new root filesytem

2012-01-16 Thread Mickey
Public bug reported:

The current switch_root does a sanity check to ensure that it does not
wipe out the new root filesystem by checking the device id of the parent
and child directories. If they are the same, then the child directory is
not considered a mount point and the contents are deleted recursively.

This presents a problem because non-block device mounted file systems
such as tmpfs and ramfs both report the same device id from struct stat.
Which is '0'.

So if you have your to-be root filesystem contained in a non-block
device (/proc/filesystems: nodev entries), it will be wiped out before
chroot/execve ever happens.

This can be verified by running stat against the root and to-be root
filesystems in the initramfs.

[Bug 898567] [NEW] Desktop Pager - Right click "settings" - Error message

2011-12-01 Thread Mickey Way
Public bug reported:

[Lubuntu 11.10] Desktop Pager applet on the panel. Right click for menu. Click
on "Desktop Pager" Settings. Instantly, an error message appears that says:
--
Unable to extract the file "6".
Please ensure that "/home/scissors/.themes" is writable and that the file is a
valid Openbox theme archive.
The following errors were reported:
tar (child): 6: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
---
Then the Openbox Configuration Manager opens, but you can't use it until you
close the Error Message window.

I posted this problem on the Ubuntu forum and one reply said he doesn't
even have a .themes folder on his Lu 11.10. So, I did a fresh test
install on a flash drive, and the first thing I did was look for that
folder. It did not exist. Then after executing the same actions and
getting the error message, there now is a .theme folder, but nothing in
it.

I have two another machines with the previous versions (Lu 11.04 and
10.10) and this problem does not exist.

[Bug 805087] Re: Dash and launcher appear underneath windows

2011-11-05 Thread Mickey
I see this bug on my Dell Dimension 9100 desktop.

the bug is different than the recent screenshot. In my case, the only
indication that dash is launched somewhere is the max/min/close icons in
the panel area

For me, it is unrelated to going full screen in applications. It
happens immediately at startup, even with no other applications open.
It seems to be stacking behind the desktop. The problem is not
intermittent, it never goes away.

Also, this bug occurs with an updated install, or even when running from
the ubuntu 11.10 live cd. the unity &disown command others mention has
no affect on it.

[Bug 501296] [NEW] Computer booted into no X display with an acpi error

2009-12-29 Thread Mickey
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu.

I am using Karmic Koola 9.10

 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.

This is an immediate crash when the Xserver was attempted to be started. I
asked the boot safe crash dialog (one that asks if I would like to start x in
safe mode) to package a tar of all the related files see attachments.

 3) What you expected to happen

To boot my computer into the kde desktop.

 4) What happened instead

My computer booted into a 4 choice questionnaire. Asking if I
like to start in safe low graphics mode, view the error output, go
back into the terminal or save crash report log data which I selected
for.

The computer resumed back to boot the graphic desktop after I
exited the questionnaire.

[Bug 365334] Re: eog - Eye of gnome takes too long to open

2009-04-29 Thread Mickey
It is fixed by following an unrelated issue (sudo apt-get install
--reinstall liblcms1). If you notice the poster had a totally different
issue. Yet what he did worked for me too the thread is at:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1132113. Anyone having same
problem trick is to reinstall liblcms1. Since it can't be tracked to
the cause anyone having this problem reinstall that lib.

[Bug 365334] Re: eog - Eye of gnome takes too long to open

2009-04-27 Thread Mickey
Sadly I was able to confirm this to be localized to my profile. As
another user the problem does not exist. The small percent sufferered
likely the same issue. If this is in fact some corrupting bug despite
being low risk it might cause more damages to others. Let me know, if
anything else you want me to check. But at this point I feel have noway
to trace it back. Other then recreating a profile as for me that used
for a year and was happily adjusted to. I'll wait until hear back
thanks. bye.

[Bug 365334] Re: eog - Eye of gnome takes too long to open

2009-04-24 Thread Mickey

[ there is no real point to argue on whether 5 or 15 users are having this
issue, ]

Was not arguing you did not understand me through the internet. No
enemy made and no enemy lost was merely pointing out what felt was not
true for this bug.

[it's just happening to very few users]

That is "true" it is happening for a select "few" something must be
in common with this small percentage of us who are hit by it. Somehow we
triggered it if I may be of any help it will make me feel better that
others will not run into it.

[ and need debugging by somebody having the issue ]

Later today will get a chance to create a fake new account and see if
it is isolated to the profile. I'll post back when get some
information. Be it a yes or a no.

[Bug 365334] Re: eog - Eye of gnome takes too long to open

2009-04-24 Thread Mickey
very little connection barely [bug #288765] but not quite because eog
will open but delayed. In that bug as understood it will refuse to open
at all. Also more info says guy is running a vfat system while only
ubuntu is installed on that machine. Also they need to logout for the
bug to start doing its problems. While here one just needs to activate
the "image collection," browse the collection and close the program.
Restart it and it will run after a long delay each time. From trying to
reproduce it few times it always seems to happen after activating the
image collection.

Again see if you can reproduce it I was able to confirm it after repeating the
same thing it started to bug out. The steps below are as above but with slight
language fixes.

===

1. Go to a folder with lots of pictures
2. Inside of eog enable "image collection" from the file --> view menu. in the
image collection select few pictures by clicking on them individually with
mouse. Now stop.
3. Close eog
4. click on any single picture in the picture folder or try to call eog from
the terminal.

Results:

You should get eog lag of at least 1.5 . 1 1/2 minutes. Eog empty or
with a picture will still open but very late. You'll think it did
nothing. followed by the error if you started from the command line:

** (eog: random x): WARNING **: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes
include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the
network connection was broken.

Think was able to pinpoint how to trigger it (but not sure yet see if
you try this it wakes the bug up). Perform the following steps:

1. Go to a folder with lots of pictures
2. Inside of eog enable "image collection" from the file --> view menu.
3. Close eog
4. click on a single picture in the folder or try to call eog from the

2009-04-23 Thread Mickey
Your welcome,

Please answer these questions:
 * Is this reproducible?
This is reproducable when it happens but it gets breaks too from breaking.
For a few minutes I was able to get it twice to instantly open the images one
time briefly last night without any action on my part.

 * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

You could approach this two ways:

Method 1:

1. open your gnome terminal
2. type in eog

What will happen depends randomly either:

You will have eog open empty and instantly.

-- if the bug springs into action -

You will have eog wait about 1 1/2 minutes and display:

WARNING **: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote
application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy
blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection
was broken.

and open afterwards.

Method two:

1. Open nautilus either clicking on your gnome home desktop. Or
calling it anyway you want to.

2. Open any folder with pictures and click on the picture. If the bug is
activated your image will appear in about 1 1/2 minutes.

or you may want to keep image slideshow and switch images you'll notice
the lag too,

 * Could you get a gdb stacktrace while it's hanging?

The program never hangs it just seems to without a known trigger point
either work instantly or delay and work with that error.

I will need the commands to type in if you want the gdb stacktrace
despite of it not actually hanging but delaying. What is weird about
this bug is that it gave me a break two times by not activating itself.
Seems even though one time I stopped dbus it was just a coincidence when
the bug stopped. The second time it stopped with no action on my part.

[Bug 365334] [NEW] eog - Eye of gnome takes too long to open

2009-04-22 Thread Mickey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu.

 I am using ubuntu Jaunty.

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy packagename'
or by checking in Synaptic.

eog:
  Installed: 2.26.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.26.1-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What you expected to happen

 I expected two scenarios:

* If starting eye of gnome from the terminal for it to start right away.
*If I was in any folder with pictures opening a single picture, or a
folder with many pictures, or a slideshow of pictures. For it to start to show
any of the pictures right away,

4) What happened instead

 * Eye of gnome did open in either scenarios but it took the program
to load itself empty in about 1 1/2 minutes or with any picture inside
in 1 1/2 minutes.

The error it reported varies in number (eog:9836 but may change to
another).

Error example:
$ eog

** (eog:9836): WARNING **: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes
include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the
network connection was broken.

More info:

I thought that i fixed it when I stopped dbus and it logged me out
forcing a hard reboot. As keyboard access was lost. After the reboot the
pictures opened instantly followed to reverting back to the problem as
in the bug. I seen another report but it seems a bit different at
first reading it.

[Bug 255601] Re: Hibernate not resuming on PC-Chips M811LU

2008-12-07 Thread Mickey
I fixed the problem, however the credits are not due to me. Although my
pc is not a laptop the problem is the same. It is as a result of
corruption see:

 Instructions From:

This must be added in xorg.conf:

Section "Device"
...
Option "NvAGP" "1"
EndSection

3. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NvidiaLaptopBinaryDriverSuspend
4.
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-9755/README/appendix-q.html

Details on the problem from Nvidia:
"sometimes chipsets lose their AGP configuration during suspend, and may cause
corruption on the bus upon resume. The AGP driver is required to save and
restore relevant register state on such systems; NVIDIA's NvAGP is notified of
power management events and ensures its configuration is kept intact across
suspend/resume cycles."

[Bug 276229] [NEW] Xchat freezes while trying to list freenode channels.

2008-09-30 Thread Mickey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu.

I'm using: Ubuntu Intrepid latest revision.

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.

The version is:
  Installed: 1:0.24.0-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:0.24.0-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1:0.24.0-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What you expected to happen.

I expected:

1. Start Xchat.
2. Connect to freenode.
3. Open to list channels.
4. List of all channels on FreeNode to show.

4) What happened instead

1. Start Xchat.
2. Connect to freenode.
3. Open to list channels.
4. Screen turns white and Xchat-gnome is not responsive. Simply it is just
white, remains white.

Possible though:

Seems that too many channels overload Xchat-Gnome.

Seems after renabling nvidia 3d driver causes it. Disabling the 3D

complicated for 3D.Any possible fixes ? Thanks.

I'm not sure why but after few days the bug has returned. I did update

caused the regression. Just letting everyone know, the bug has again

I couldn't resist and insstead of installing a full new CD. I simply upgraded
the sources and hibernate does now work. I opened some programs that I wanted
to "save state."
For now the bug is solved way to go ubuntu team! I'm going to change the
status to solved. If anyone else is having an issue feel free to change to
"reopened." I'll happily test anything that might be added.

But as a side note, when I get a chance. I will open a new bug I think on
nvidia driver i'm not sure yet.

[Bug 255601] [NEW] Hibernate not resuming on PC-Chips M811LU

2008-08-06 Thread Mickey
Public bug reported:

I own a PC-Chips M811LU motherboard, at least to what I remember. My
problem is the hibernate does not work to anything that I tried on the
forums.

1. I hit hibernate pc seems to be saving to the drive Pc turns off.

2. I hit the power button on the tower again. Pc turns on, shows the
bios screen, proceeds to do something. The screen remains black and the
monitor led remains green for a few seconds.

3. Monitors power button turns from green to orange and blinks (as if
went to sleep).

4. Computer continues to run but any button or mouse move does not wake
it up.

5. I hit hard reset to reboot pc without hibernate.

My graphic card is a Nvidia fx 5200 running the 3d driver.

I'm not sure what else I can provide other then it is not working correctly.
Let me know and i'll upload it here for you.

I tried on all recent releases of ubuntu even the current one running
intrepid-ibex. Same with opensuse 10.x and 11.x.

[Bug 187373] Re: Impossible to boot on 2.6.24-5

2008-03-22 Thread Mickey

Milo,

I just got lucky and found another mini pci card on craigslist, based on
the atheros chipset. It was from an old Toshiba laptop. I loaded it,
and it came up automatically and worked without any extra configuration.
That was the best 15 bucks I've spent in a long time. It also was an
upgrade from wireless B to G, so that was an added bonus.

I wish I had bought a new card 2 or 3 versions ago, it would have saved
me a lot of wasted time.

Thanks to other posters stepping in the bug is not fixed with ubuntu. I
end up using: iwconfig interfacename essid channel 6 mode managed key
soso open so on arguments. Then I must do ifdown interface and ifup
interface again. partially configuring within gnome, partially
configuring within the command line. Every time, so it does not truly
work but the card does work so to speak.

[Bug 111068] A bug between Atheros Communications AR5212 802.11abg nic and Ubuntus network applet

2007-04-29 Thread Mickey
Public bug reported:

I want to be helpful but not sure exactly where the problem lies. I will
walk you through my doings, it is a bug but I am unable to make sense
of it. Due to its extreme complexity in nature I am actually writing
this to you on the wireless that has the bug! please readon.

More details:

I have a hidden wireless network at home running off of trendnet router.

My Actions:

1. Boot ubuntus live-CD up (Feisty).

2. Restricted devices manager picks up Atheros Communications AR5212
normally.

3. It shows all the possible wireless networks within the range of the
perimeter.

4. I Right click on connect to other network, select my networks
SSID, Wep Hex enter it and hit connect.

5. The logo begins to spin and it seems it is trying to connect.

Problems:

A. It times out connecting to the network and gives up.

B. If it does connect to the network it does not get assigned
computer name, gateway, etc and so fourth.

C. It does get connected to the network and all is ok but disagrees
with the applet.

D. Disabling the onboard wired jack (eth0) and retrying (ath0)
sometimes seems to work??

Tried:

A. Clicking manual configuration enter all the details but it refuses to
connect.

Luck:

Ubuntus network utility crashed and gnomes network utility was able to
get me on the wireless network. I am afterall speaking to you on it, but
the applet is gone. Because as long as ubuntus applet is running. It
seems I will never be able to connect to the network at all.

Reproduction:

Speechless, I do not know how to reproduce the same exact steps to get the
problem or avoid it.The beta versions of feisty had the issue but a bit
better.

It is a bug but what kind? as you notice I am speaking to you again
right now on the bugged live cd booted in ram. Only because of luck on this
 boot.

Your very much welcome, glad this will be worked on.

I do have another problem not sure if it is a bug or not "TLS" works
with postfix in thunderbird. Yet "SSL"does not work with thunderbird,
even after opening ports. However it does not belong in this report
going search for postfix ssl. Wonder if it is by design to work only
with "Tls" not "ssl" checkbox. Also tested it on windows mail client
and cant get it to work with ssl. Does not seem windows mail even
supports tls.

I have fixed the bug do to your help and googles help BTW UBUNTU ROCKS!.
This is what the documentation guides need to add:

Steps did are below but they are sequenced here, in some point in the
guide they will need to be added. The guide is very well written but
does not take into account some things.

(This is actually done in two steps)

Step 1:

/etc/postfix/master.cf:
# =
# service type private unpriv chroot wakeup maxproc command
# (yes) (yes) (yes) (never) (100)
# =
smtp inet n - n - - smtpd

Step 2:

adduser postfix sasl

[Bug 105378] Re: Postifx setup documentation does not specify removing the chroot for SMTP Auth

2007-04-11 Thread Mickey
Few more comments, First of all thanks for all the links actually
reading them now. So my understanding is chroot is more safer. As it is
in a "jail" environment where it is self contained. Wish that keeping
chroot on, keeping postfix working would work. But in reality it seems
that some type of problem does exists and more hassle then worth.
BTW: That link: http://www.postfix.org/DEBUG_README.html#no_chroot
"part of it" is actually pretty straight forward to follow.

* Summary so far in general:

+ The ubuntu's postfix documentation seems to be bugged (or not bugged)
but rather incomplete. In that area since it is missing some crucial
information.

Requests:

+ If anyone else (mostly end users) are having this issue feel free to
add to the bug and any measures you have taken. This information might
actually help the maintainer's of the guides / contributed guides. To
take any of the information when revisions are made in the future.

[Bug 105378] Re: SASL authentication failure Ubuntu 6.10

K, if I will need consultations ever in the future have my eye on you.
:-) for now. For now just we need to know
if we need to flag it as an ubuntus bug. I am the first person
reporting it it seems did a search. The AMD64 bug was not relevant as
one ubuntu users pointed out. It is possible for you not to have this
bug.

Here are my thoughts:

That you have old configuration files that might have not been obsoleted
in the upgrade process. They still work the way you left them.

contents of: /etc/postfix/sasl/smtpd.conf

pwcheck_method: saslauthd
mech_list: plain login

>> On install of postfix this file never existed:

/etc/postfix/sasl/smtpd.conf

So according to the guide placed the above into the above file.

"I am trying to triage your bug, not offer private consulting."

I was not trying to imply that, it even escaped my mind for private
consulting. As noone is getting a compensated here for it. I do
feel bit hurt, that someone would think that. Where my intentions were
not even coming to that or even close. I been in various communities now
for over 8+ years! To know no "expectations". I do not know how,
neither need to know how one would come to that conclusion. I just felt
untrusting that internet at large would see my website internals.
Knowing access to which directory, making it easier for them. Since
their is nothing wrong (seems so ) with that going to then post it.
However, be advised I do not know how much is little and how much is too
much. What exactly is appropriate either to help me / ubuntu. So
please don't scold me for making a human error regarding log
verbosity. It was not my intent to hurt you either or insinuate or add
things out of the realm of my thoughts. Thinking that your obligated for
something that your not. Not questioning your thoughts either, but do
apologize if I was not clear. As a pay back, or be part of linux not
to just sit their and keep my mouth closed and freeload. Decided to bug
report it (few other reports on launchpad) rather then thinking
"someone else will". Assumed it might actually be a problem inside
ubuntu and by all means critical blocker, stopper, whatever you call it.
My point is, was not looking for someone to offer consultation at their
free time. This is my first time running a linux web server ever.
Thanks.

I do not yet know what postfix -n does still learning. To be on the
safe side tried postfix -n as none sudo. After thinking, going to not
run that command as sudo privileged without knowing implications of it
yet. If you feel too much info (full file) just feel free to skip it
or jump to part of the file. Again, I do not know what when trying to
debug postfix parts of that file one needs. Debugging on a programmers
level is currently not even within my scope of understanding will read
the link later just quick check. Error log is the last one in the file
stripped of connections to the mail server.

2007-04-11 Thread Mickey

Hello their,

I would like to email you my postfix configuration but only in private.
As I would not like it to appear for spam / safety reasons on ubuntus
bugzilla. I am really lost, as I followed multiple guides to the
letter. Literally "Copy / Paste" of course the domains changing from
example.com. If I manage to follow that link tasks
(http://www.postfix.org/DEBUG_README.html#debug_peer) it would be nice.
I can send you any logs that I have here to make sure that the most
basics are correct.

You might be able to spot something. It should not be a configuration error on
a virgin ubuntu install by following guides to the letter. It is possible, but
unlikely asd I stuck to the safety defaults. It seems from the link you have
sent Scott that it is not running in chroot.

Tell me before I do please what to send (paste) to you: So far after
I confirm this email address does not post back to a mailing list.

*   /var/log/mail.log   ?

*   /etc/postfix/main.cf ?

*   /etc/postfix/master.cf ?

* any other logs that may be helpful to you to help us all.

[Bug 105378] SASL authentication failure Ubuntu 6.10

2007-04-10 Thread Mickey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

1. Install Ubuntu 6.10 (fresh) (or Feisty but lets stick to stable)

2. Install postfix

3. Follow the postfix 6.10 guide.

4. Normal sent mail without protection (tls) works.

5. TLS email fails with message in logs: " warning: SASL authentication
failure: cannot connect to saslauthd server: No such file or directory"

Thunderbird keeps prompting for password and prompting trying from command line
as suggested somewhere shows a generic failure.

I have followed the guide to the drop many many times.

I consider this bug to be grave, needs a fix at least within 72 hours.
Immediatly if it is really not an end user issue. Since most production
Company email servers for others with fail.

Patches must be sent to: Edgy, (perhaps dapper) assume the bug exists in
their too. Feisty needs one too but not as urgent right now.

Something seems changed in latest postfix or saslauthd.
