Public bug reported: Binary package hint: b43-fwcutter b43 and other related drivers constantly log errors to stdout, like this: [25721.355827] b43-phy0 ERROR: PHY transmission error The messages are incredibly annoying when using tty1-6, as they disrupt anything you're doing on the screen. [Bug 90097] Re: USB memory stick light stays on after safely remove (KDE)
While this so far hasn't been a data-loss issue, It may become one, since it doesn't only apply to USB flash drives, but also USB powered laptop harddrive enclosures. When unmounting my specific hard drive (WesternDigital Elements 250GB), as well as the light remaining on, the HDD platters continue to spin indefinitely. My only option is to unplug it while it's spinning. I'm sure this isn't good for the drive. On the other hand, I have the same issue in windows with particular drive (disks continue spinning after being safely removed). It might just be a badly designed drive (lsusb, below, says it's self-powered, which is wrong), and in that case, powering it down would probably have the same effect as simply unplugging it. [Bug 180932] Re: [hardy regression] No scanner support (Kooka)
Matthais: yeah, I also had to add scanner to my users groups, however, udev creates the scanner device with the owner:group root:root, when it should have been root:scanner. The solution is to add your user to the scanner group, then find what bus your USB scanner is on with lsusb (you get a number like 002:004), then sudo chown root:scanner /dev/bus/usb/002/004 (or what ever the numbers are) I have to do this every time I plug in the scanner, or turn on the computer. -- [hardy regression] No scanner support (Kooka) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/180932 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is subscribed to kdegraphics in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

A better way to do it is to add scanner to your user's groups (in teh user control panel, giver scanner permissions), however, udev creates the scanner device with the owner:group root:root, when it should have been root:scanner. [Bug 200287] Re: usb stick doesn't mount
I think I'm having a similar problem. Sometimes devices mount, sometimes they don't. Udev seems to create the device files correctly and with the right permissions. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Every time I hibernate, I start the computer, and end up with a white screen of death - no mouse, no text cursor, no hard drive activity, nothing. I can't kill X with alt+ctrl+backspace, and I can't switch to a terminal with alt+ctrl+f(1-6). I have to reboot. A few kernels ago, this seemed to be happening about 50% of the time, now it happens every time. I've tried deleting xorg.conf, no difference (xorg previously specified intel driver). [Bug 199660] [NEW] CD-image naming scheme
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop All the cd images are named the same, regardless of product, and regardless of release. For example currently, kubuntu releases are all labelled hardy-desktop-i386 etc, with no distinction between kubunt and ubuntu, nor minor releases. The only thing that changes is the major release (gutsy, hardy, etc.), the CD type (live/alternate/server), and the build type (i386, generic, amd64, etc). Please use a more descriptive CD image naming scheme. Perhaps something like: [Distro]-[Major release]-[Minor release]-[CD type]-[Build type].iso This would result in much more useful filenames, such as: kubuntu-hardy-daily080307-desktop-i386.iso, or xubuntu-hardy-alpha6-alternate-amd64.iso (sorry about the package chosen for this wishlist item, I couldn't find anything more suitable) ** Affects: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- CD-image naming scheme https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199660 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 134680] Re: Sleep and Hibernate issues in Gutsy on Thinkpad x41
the fglrx driver has a similar bug. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22/+bug/121653 This is caused by a move from CONFIG_SLAB=y to CONFIG_SLUB=y in kernel 2.6.22+. I have no idea what this means, but am wondering if it has anything to do with this bug. Might the intel driver have similar problems? I've also thought that my hibernate problem might be caused by having too little swap space - I have about 1GB Swap, and 1.2GB RAM. I realise this shouldn't work in theory, however it always worked fine in feisty in reality. could something have changed in gutsy that would use more swap space on hibernate? -- Sleep and Hibernate issues in Gutsy on Thinkpad x41 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134680 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
