[Bug 1825810] [NEW] gnome control center crashes with when using nouveau

2019-04-22 Thread zeimusu
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu 19.04, with the vanilla gnome interface

gnome-control-center: 1:3.32.1-1ubuntu4

xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: 1:1.0.16-1

nvidia-340: 340.107-0ubuntu3

I switched from the nvidia display driver to nouveau.

After rebooting the screen was low resolution. I attempted to open the
gnome control center. It didn't open. I tried again from the command
line with "gnome-control-center" and it crashed with an error message
and a segmentation fault.

Error message from syslog

Reverting to the nvidia driver and rebooting fixes the issue.

Related bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-

However I do not see a crash of gnome shell, only the control center.

[Bug 1445535] Re: Hang and kernel panic on wake up from suspend.

2015-04-18 Thread zeimusu
This bug seems to have begun with about 3.19.0-4

It does not seem to be present in 3.16 (But in 3.16 the screen shows in
low resolution)

It appears to be related to the nouveau graphics driver, as installing
proprietary nvida seems to clear it.

Tested with mainline 4.0 The bug does not seem to be present, (made two
attempts, in both cases the computer awoke normally) marking as
"kernel-fixed-upstream"
(But as I have no wifi with the 4.0 kernel, I'll be returning to 3.19 for
everyday use. is this a bug or expected?)

Marking confirmed as requested.

[Bug 1445535] [NEW] Hang and kernel panic on wake up from suspend.

2015-04-17 Thread zeimusu
Public bug reported:

I get frequent, but not always reproducible "hang" after waking from
suspend

The hang often occurs before any login or password screen appears. and
cannot be broken by ctrl-alt-del or ctrl-alt-1 or any other key
combination.

Sometimes the gdm login screen is shown, but the mouse freezes, the
keyboard gets no response. The power key also has no effect. I have to
disconnect from power to reboot.

The last time I got an error message, which read:
...
Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt.
Kernel offset 0x0 from 0x8100 (reallocation range
0x8000-0xbfff)
drm_kms_helper: panic occured, switching back to text console

[Bug 1385881] [NEW] release update to ubuntu-gnome 14.10 fails. (libclutter 1.17 not available)

2014-10-26 Thread zeimusu
Public bug reported:

unresolvable dependcies when upgrading ubuntu gnome trusty -> utopic.

I started an upgrade. After all downloads were done and most of the
installation had finished, the upgraded stopped with error message : "System
may be in unstable state, dpkg --config will run" (or something similar)

running apt-get by hand gives the following message

$ sudo apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run ‘apt-get -f install’ to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies.
ubuntu-gnome-desktop : Depends: gnome-contacts but it is not installed
Depends: gnome-control-center but it is not installed
Recommends: cheese but it is not installed

Recommends: gnome-maps but it is not installed
Recommends: mcp-account-manager-goa but it is not

Recommends: totem but it is not installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.

Running apt-get -f install attempts to remove ubuntu-gnome-desktop and
the gnome-shell packages (I haven't done this)

Attempting to install gnome-contacts depends on libcheese-gkt23
libcheese depends on libcogl20 > 1.17

[Bug 1385758] [NEW] brasero failed to correctly burn aac file

2014-10-25 Thread zeimusu
Public bug reported:

I created an aac file:

 ls -s pieces.aac
34624 pieces.aac

$ file pieces.aac
pieces.aac: MPEG ADTS, AAC, v4 LC, 48 kHz, stereo

The file is relatively long, about 45 minutes, and plays correctly with
totem, vlc and avplay.

I would expect brasero to decode the aac file and burn it to cd

When I attempted to burn this file as an audio cd, brasero identifies it as a 6
minute audio file.
The burning proceeds without apparent error, but doesn't produce a valid audio
cd.

It may be that brasero is intepreting the aac file as an uncompressed
pcm format file.

[Bug 581052] Re: wacom tablet not working on resume from suspend to ram

2010-06-01 Thread zeimusu
bug 399520 was incomplete. The orginal reporter was no longer affected,
so couldn't provide the requested information. It was easier for me to
start a new bug. Doesn't make much sense, but that's how the powers that
be wanted it.

[Bug 581052] [NEW] wacom tablet not working on resume from suspend to ram

2010-05-15 Thread zeimusu
Public bug reported:

My wacom intuos 2 tablet would not start working on resume.

I could get it to start by using modprobe to remove, then re-insert the
wacom module.

Following advice in bug 399520 I could fix this by creating a file
/etc/pm/config.d/50wacom containing
SUSPEND_MODULES="wacom"

I'm creating this bug as I still have this problem without the above
patch, but the original reporter does not.

Can this file be part of the xserver-xorg-input-wacom package?

Not for me in Lucid.

With a fresh install the wacom tablet doesn't wake up after suspend to
ram. It is possible to wake it manually by removing then re-inserting
the wacom module with modprobe.

I will try Sam's suggestion.

[Bug 557245] [NEW] Gdm hangs, then restarts as it asks for my password.

2010-04-07 Thread zeimusu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Using Lucid Lynx beta. Fully updated.

I start Lucid, and come to the log in screen.
I click my user name. The password entry box appears, but gdm appears to hang.
The mouse stops moving, and no black circles appear in the password box. After
about 5 seconds the screen blanks and gdm restarts with the "Click your name"
box.

I am able to login to tty1. I tried setting Timed login, but that failed

There is a similar bug, but that was invalid - #496772

[Bug 543583] [NEW] fsck doesn't finish

2010-03-21 Thread zeimusu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: e2fsprogs

After a power cut my drive needed to be checked.
The information was not very clear

"Your drive contains errors [SIMF]" or something.

What do the letters mean? I waited a long time (30 min or so) and
nothing changed, so I ctrl-alt-delete and rebooted with a back up
partition, fscked from there and got myself going again. (needed an
interactive fsck)

Recovery mode was also unhelpful.

The lucid boot should be more transparent about what has gone wrong,
what it is doing to put things right, and not appear to hang.

[Bug 494665] [NEW] Ubuntu lucid is mute after each boot.

2009-12-09 Thread zeimusu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alsa-utils

After each boot on Ubuntu Lucid the sound is muted. It appears as mute
in the "sound preferences" and alsa mixer. Similar bugs in previous
versions of Ubuntu have pointed to problems with the /etc/init.d/alsa-
utils start up script, but that doesn't exist anymore - It seems to be
done by upstart.

[Bug 420933] Re: Current grub-pc takes several minutes to show menu

2009-11-27 Thread zeimusu
Thanks Felix. I can confirm that your ppa build fixes this issue for me.

Two things I noticed about your build. I get a very brief error message
appearing between "grub loading" and the grub menu. It seems to be
complaining about an unrecognized character. Secondly update-grub takes
a very long time to do anything.

But my system now boots twice as fast :-)

[Bug 482178] Re: I don´t have sound anymore a fter an update.

2009-11-16 Thread zeimusu
Ok this bug might fall into two separate parts
1. A recent update set to zero and muted all channels, and the Sound
Preferences of pulseaudio were unable to unmute them
2. Zeimusu didn't rtfm for alsamixer. :-(

To clarify. By using alsamixer correctly (The 'm' key to toggle muting,
the arrow keys to change levels) I could regain sound. Part 2 is now
fixed. This still leaves part 1

I suspect that tevoran is seeing the same couple of bugs, but
alsamixergui has a more easily discoverable method of unmuting.

2009-11-15 Thread zeimusu
I'm seeing the same behaviour

In the sound preferences dialog the sound is not muted. In alsamixer, sound
levels were set to zero.
I changed the values in alsamixer, but still no sound.

I'll c&p output from amixer

[Bug 483041] Re: No sound

2009-11-15 Thread zeimusu
Looking at some simillar bugs, it seems that the master volume in alsamixer is
being turned down. Not quite sure why this would be, and as I said the volumes
are not turned down in the sound preferences...
still marking this as invalid, sorry for the noise.

effect on this?

[Bug 453776] Re: volume muted after boot

2009-10-22 Thread zeimusu
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 345975 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345975

I don't agree with the dupe. The other bug is when sound is muted
/before/ rebooting. The bug affects when sound is not muted before
rebooting, but is muted after, which is a different bug (though they may
be related.)

[Bug 458071] [NEW] crashes in gcompris Assertion '!in_worker(m)' failed at pulse/thread-mainloop.c:161, function pa_threaded_mainloop_stop().

2009-10-22 Thread zeimusu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcompris

I'm reporting crashes in gcompris, at least two different boards are
crashing: The click on a fish board and the move the mouse to display a
hidden picture (others not tested) . Gcompris starts but crashes after a
while. I've not been able to get apport to produce sensible output, but
terminal output is pasted below. Pulseaudio seems to be implicated. Let
me know if there is additional information I can produce.

$ gcompris
XF86VidMode: Compiled with XF86VidMode.
If you have problems starting GCompris in fullscreen, try the -x option to
disable XF86VidMode.

[Bug 450533] [NEW] Build poppler with the openjpeg library / Images not showing in evince, JPX errors

2009-10-13 Thread zeimusu
Public bug reported:

Some Images in pdf files from google books fail to show, and generate
JPX errors.

According to the good folks at poppler this is due to ubuntu not using
openjpeg when building poppler, and the depreciated fallback decoder
failing.

[Bug 399520] Re: wacom tablet not working after resume from suspend

2009-08-17 Thread zeimusu
Workaround.

running
sudo modprobe -r wacom && sudo modprobe wacom

will restart the tablet. These lines (minus the sudo) can be added to
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/75modules to restart the wacom tablet (put them
inside the resume_modules() function). With this I was able to suspend to ram
and resume, apparently successfully.

Confirm this issue. Adding the line to acpi-support as suggested doesn't
seem to make a difference.
