Can you try that?

[Bug 410963] Re: Broadcom BCM4312 Wireless networks

2010-02-18 Thread Patrick Correa
Weird error for me on an Dell Latitude D830... basically wireless works
fine now if I boot with the killswitch set to off, then move it to on
after login.

However, wireless does not work if I boot with the killswitch set to on.
The wireless shows as disabled in NetworkManager. Moving the killswitch
from on to off will allow the wireless to see access points, but it will
always be unsuccessful at trying to connect to any APs until I reboot
with the killswitch set to off and not move it to on until after
startup.

Very weird problem.. I have a feeling it may be a kernel issue as it
happened after a System Update.

[Bug 410963] Re: Broadcom BCM4312 Wireless networks

2009-11-29 Thread Flemming Bjerke
In Karmic Kubuntu, BCM4312 (wireless on hp 550) does not work out the
box. System hardwaredrivers finds two drivers for the card. The free
driver (b43) does not work. The proprietary one (wl) works, but the very
installation may freeze your box. First, kde was frozen. I tried to
restart kdm, and then the box froze, After after swithching of and boot,
everything seems to work fine, incl. wireless.

Thus, there is no need to compile your kernel, etc., though it is though
way to install a driver ;-)

NB: Before you activate the proprietary driver, you must deactivate the
free driver. Else, your kernel may be destroyed!!! (That was what
happened on my box. My luck was that there was an older kernel in the
grub menu. Else, I would have been a bit annoyed!!!)

I have attached messages, if someone should like to investestigate the
phenomenon: My hp550 froze two times this morning. First time, I had to
reinstall kernel-2.6.31-15. Second time, I just had to boot. The last two lines
of messages.1 are:

I'm also having this problem. The output of apport-collect 410963 is
above.

I have the Broadcom STA Wireless driver installed. If I boot and then go
into System-Admin-Hardware Drivers the driver is activated, but not
currently in use. If I Remove the driver and re-add it my Wifi works
and the driver is activiated and in use, but the whole system seems to
crash randomly afterwards, and when I restart the driver is again
activated, but not currently in use.

[Bug 410963] Re: Broadcom BCM4312 Wireless networks

2009-11-20 Thread Andy
I am having the same problem here. Please help I beg.
I have a new Dell inspiron 1525n laptop. I just wiped it and installed a fresh
Ubuntu9.10.
I selected the Broadcom STA wireless driver in Hardware Drivers.
I rebooted the laptop but now network manager shows (greyed out) wireless is
disabled.
When i do Ifconfig it shows the wireless driver as eth2 eth0 is the wired lan
card.

eth2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 70:1a:04:6d:5f:2b
  inet6 addr: fe80::721a:4ff:fe6d:5f2b/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
  RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
  RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)
  Interrupt:17 Base address:0xc000

Iwconfig gives me this

eth2 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID: Nickname:
  Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
  Bit Rate:54 Mb/s Tx-Power:off
  Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
  Power Managementmode:All packets received

So the wireless seems to be OK it looks like a problem with Network Manager.
How do i fix this
please i beg.

lspci shows this

So this is another famous show stopping bug it seems.

Here in lspci we get BCM4312

what can be done to fix this? Anyone?

[Bug 410963] Re: Broadcom BCM4312 Wireless networks

2009-11-20 Thread Tony Espy
Andy, if network-manager shows wireless disabled, then this is most
likely a killswitch problem.

Can you run the command in comment #4 to add specific debugging
information for your system? In your case, you'll probably see a
Network Manager log message in /var/log/daemon.log which states that the
Wi-Fi card kill switch is disabled.

Please make sure you have the latest updates installed also, as there've
been recent fixes made to some of the Dell platform drivers which
control the Wi-Fi kill switches.

I'm also moving this to the kernel package as this is *not* a network-
manager bug.
