[Bug 756379] Re: the unity bar (on the left) keeps freezing
I was able to capture the screen, having the sidebar frozen... notice in the picture that the mouse is away (to the right side of the screen) and it is still opened... also, that I have nautilus running (maximized) and it show no triangle by its home icon... the bar simply wont go away (and usually there is no way to keep it from hiding) I had to remotely access (ssh) this box to get proper control over my system, since compiz --replace and unity --replace hadn`t accomplished anything close to what I had expected (paining my screen totally white was not my goal), and the reboot was mandatory Are there any log files I can try to post here to describe better my huge frustration with unity keeping me from actually using the system as disired? I doubt anyone moms (mine included) be able to understand the mess that Unity does to the usability ! Wasn`t it created for tiny screen (like netbooks)? What is the advantage of forcing this on the users even when they huge huge screens? The math does not seem to add! ** Attachment added: frozen-unity-sidebar.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/756379/+attachment/2092380/+files/frozen-unity-sidebar.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/756379 Title: the unity bar (on the left) keeps freezing -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 756379] Re: the unity bar (on the left) keeps freezing
can you use gtk-recordmydesktop to make a video of this? i don't understand what's happening. it doesn't sound like it's actually freezing, but rather just behaving unexpectedly. ** Changed in: unity Status: New = Incomplete ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/756379 Title: the unity bar (on the left) keeps freezing -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 756379] Re: the unity bar (on the left) keeps freezing
I have figured out the following details... the bar only unfolds it self completely if I really reach the edge of the screen (top left of the Ubuntu button in Unity)... I can even DJ in and out and it kind of fade (on and off) the bar I do believe its wrong, cause it should simply SHOW UP (even if with a cute fade in effect) when the mouse is hovering the button, and not lock into only if I reach the exact corner... Now, regarding the the impossibility of clicking on icons out of reach (to the bottom of the bar) it seems that Unity is trying to help me by hiding some information (that there are more icons) unless I ever so gently put my mouse off the bar (a little few pixels to the right of it) but not so much that it will decide to evaporate again... in this configuration it will tilt the icons in the bottom revealing there are more available... if I manage to get close to the bottom without geting further to the right and, god forbid, hovering over the bar, it will tilt the upper ones and I can actually click where I want (like the trash bin)... if I accidently hover the bar (while trying not to get to far from it) before it decides its time to fold the uppers ones, if untilts the bottom ones again rendering them out of reach... I have to start by leaving it from the top of the bar again and keeping close attention to the distance. I believe its a pretty stupid ergonometric decision to have the user gigling with the mouse just to click the bottom icons. Can it be set to either LOCK IN the left of the screen if I get no further than, say, the MIDDLE of the screen? Or, maybe, not untilt the bottom ones if there are more to show, and acctually unfold them (folding the top ones) while I reach the bottom zone of the bar (just like I believe it used to work for maverick/lucid netbook edition)? I believe I can try to capture the process here, if requested... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/756379 Title: the unity bar (on the left) keeps freezing -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 756379] Re: the unity bar (on the left) keeps freezing
by the way, I had at least one program running maxmized... if there are none, the bar is kept open and its MUCH easier to reach the botom icons, but I still have to be out of it until the bottom part... if I hover it in the upper zone, the bottom icons unfold to outside the screen edge in my resolution (1280x800) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/756379 Title: the unity bar (on the left) keeps freezing -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
