[Bug 772834] Re: Asus U43F with 11.04 freeze on suspend
Armandoj-93, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please provide the information following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . However, note you can only test Suspend, not Hibernate, when using a LiveCD. If the issue remains, run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal) as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux BUGNUMBER Additionally, if you could try to reproduce this with the upstream mainline kernel that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs- upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Please let us know your results. [Bug 772834] Re: Asus U43F with 11.04 freeze on suspend
@dssj Thanks for keeping this post alive. Adding to my 5/2011 post: 1) My U43F is dual-boot and the Windows partition suspends just fine; it's a real suspend/sleep with little or no drain on the batteries. 2)This machine has amazing battery life and can normally go at least 5-6+ hours when I'm working in Ubuntu, but if I forget and close the lid, whatever goes on in 'suspend' with the disk drives and fans causes it to very quickly drain the batteries. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/772834 Title: Asus U43F with 11.04 freeze on suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/772834/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 772834] Re: Asus U43F with 11.04 freeze on suspend
I'm also having the same issue on an Asus A53E-based computer running Fedora 15 LXDE x86-64, even with the latest Fedora kernels (which are 3.0-based). I tried updating the BIOS, but that didn't help. What's strange is that from the user level, everything seems to go fine. You can check the pm-suspend.log (wherever it lives, for me it's /var/log) and it prints that all its hooks completed successfully and that it's entering suspend. Then I get the same thing the OP gets: it kicks to the text output from my boot and hangs. I also notice that my hard drive access light comes on and stays on. Not sure if that's important, but I'm using an SSD and for it to be suspending to RAM and presumably accessing the disk for about 10 seconds straight is problematic in my mind. Additionally, I didn't have any issues with this problem on a similar A53, except it had an AMD-based processor and AMD/ATI-based graphics. Hopefully it's not an issue with the Intel stuff, but given how flaky Sandy Bridge can be on Linux (graphics in particular), I wouldn't be surprised. It's not DE/WM/X related, because I booted my computer in runlevel 3 and tried running pm-suspend from there, it hung the same way. I'm both relieved and alarmed that I'm not the only one experiencing this issue, and that it's not distro-dependent. Fingers crossed that this is being worked on.
[Bug 772834] Re: Asus U43F with 11.04 freeze on suspend
finisdiem - your wireless driver probably has a different name, try looking at the status of your wireless adapter (click the wireless icon in the panel and choose connection information) and finding the name of the driver - in my case ath9k. You can then remove the module from the kernel using sudo rmmod ath9k replacing ath9k with the name of your particular driver. Having said that, this didn't solve the issue in my case. I'm using an Asus A53E (why are the majority of laptops having this issue Asus ones?) and running Ubuntu 11.04 x86-64.
