[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-04-11 Thread Freezing
Upgrade from KDE 3.5.6 went well here... Except setting new
repositories. I used local mirror in Cesnet (czech academic network)
(yes, i know we have other mirrors in cze...) and there are no feisty
repositories yet. I think, in this case, it's better to contact the main
ubuntu repositories (or let the user to choose from mirror list) and
eventually use what was found. Only if it's not successful show the
message that something is wrong and stop upgrade process. At the end,
the dialog with message containing "While scanning your repository no
mirror entry for the upgrade was found." ... should use word wrapping ;)

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-04-10 Thread Zack
Nothing happened past step 10 for me to in Kubuntu.
I did the following to make it work in kubuntu:
1. Installed update-manager via adept (it was not installed in kubuntu, since
it is a gnome tool)
2.Ran update-manager -d and followed the instructions

I found the steps here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FeistyUpgrades
and followed step "Beta upgrade"

This worked like a charm

So it seems like the new Kubuntu Dist Upgrade tool does not work like it
should.

2007-04-10 Thread Reverend Organ
I followed the instructions at KubuntuDistUpgrade on a fresh
installation of Edgy and nothing happened past step 10. I tried
previously on an installation of Edgy with KDE 3.5.6 and nothing
happened then either. I am going to try a manual upgrade. Rather
annoying as neither the standard nor the alternate beta CD would work
for me - both hang towards the end of the installation.

I followed the instructions found at:

After the final "Fetch Updates" just nothing happens.
I tried using the suggested workaround "xhost +root" but the only result I get

I'm using Edgy with KDE 3.5.5

URGENT!!!
Okay, all is working fine with a couple of exceptions so far:

Cannot adjust Date & Time either from the system tray or from system settings.
I get an error that says, "Su returned with an error".
This is a really bad bug and really cannot understand how this would have
changed unless some automated diff operation when bad.

Please fix this.

2007-04-08 Thread hector
I think that this can be a good solution for upgrade the system.
I've installed it on feisty system with no problems (but at upgrade request is
displayed a wrong message of 'no internet connection active' (see attachment).
On next week (if possible) i've try to test it on a edgy system.
I hope that can be easier to have a only 'one buttun action' to upgrade the
system:
all (beginners) users don't have to modyfy/add any line of repositories. Only
one icon have to be pressed to update the system.
I've think that this icon/button have to be placed also on the appplication
menu and/or on the desktop.

I have the same problem as (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-

I don't get the prompt as it was mentioned on the wiki page.

I was running: KDE 3.5.5 with boat loads of extra repositories, which
did not show up in Adept (i like to maintain extra repositories in
/etc/apt/sources.d/*.list).

Anyways, I was able to upgrade my machine to Feisty manually without any

2007-04-08 Thread MoonRise
Update-Manager, DistUpgrade, No prompt to upgrade

Followed this wiki: https://wiki.kubuntu.org/KubuntuDistUpgrade
Did notice it changed from the last time I followed this for test system 1.
Followed it as written for test system 2.
All goes well except I never get the prompt that there is an upgrade to 7.04.
I receive no errors. I start update-manager from terminal and no errors there
either.
Don't really think this a bug, but could be wrong there.

Is there a way to force the Upgrade Wizard to run and report any errors?

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-04-08 Thread Brian
Here are a few things that happened during my upgrade from Edgy to
Feisty. In general, there were some buggy/broken php.ini replacement
handling, buggy /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist handling, and a loss of X
after reboot for my NVIDIA GeForce4 4200 Go. I love Kubuntu, but the
upgrade to Feisty wasn't as smooth as I hoped. I understand it is still
in beta, so the details of my problems are mentioned here:

1. PHP
During Fetching and installing the upgrades, it was at about 63% and I received
the following prompt:
Configuring php5-cli:
A new version of configuration file /etc/php5/cli/php.ini is
available, but your version has been locally modified.

  - install the package maintainer's version
  - keep your currently-installed version
  - show the differences between the versions
  - show a side-by-side difference between the versions
  - start a new shell to examine the situation

What would you like to do about php.ini?

When I picked option 4, there was a long delay (a minute?) before the
comparison started. I expected kompare or something that is more easily
followed than a standard diff. Once the MORE prompts started, I didn't
know how to stop the differences to pick another method out of fear of
killing the whole upgrade.

I then picked option 5 and received the following error:
/usr/bin/ucf: line 954: /dev/tty: No such device or address

Suggestions...
- Make the shell work.
- Have a way to exit the diff.
- Have a MORE prompt that allows more options such as quit. php.ini is a
large text file, so a diff is virtually useless for many people.
- Option 5 makes no sense if there is no way to look at the php.ini file that
is going to be installed (since the file name isn't given) to do any comparison
on my own.
- It'd be nice if there was a way to have some of these questions not halt the
whole process. Perhaps rename the old php.ini and install the new one, or
install the new one as php.ini.newversion and then ask this question at the end
of the upgrade.
- Have an option to rename existing and install one from package.

2. busybox-initramfs
- At Fetching and installing the upgrades: 68%... Installed busybox-initramfs
and warning to keep or replace /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.
- Noticed that in this case you have /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.dpkg-new, which
make more sense than how PHP was handled. It was easier for me to do a
kompare or something on my own at the command prompt.
- Noted that it was handled differently than php.ini because it wasn't a menu
of options in a text window. This was
an actual GUI screen with a diff already done for me.
- The "SHOW DIFFERENCE >>>" does nothing. The difference was already in a
visible textbox.

3. libapaache2-mod-php5
- Got the following message:
Setting up libapache2-mod-php5 (5.2.1-0ubuntu1) ...
debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Dialog
debconf: (Dialog frontend will not work on a dumb terminal, an emacs shell
buffer, or without a controlling terminal.)
debconf: falling back to frontend: Readline
debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Readline
debconf: (This frontend requires a controlling tty.)
debconf: falling back to frontend: Teletype
Modified configuration file
new version of configuration file /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini is
available, but your version has been locally modified.

  1. install the package maintainer's version
  2. keep your currently-installed version
  3. show the differences between the versions
  4. show a side-by-side difference between the versions
  5. start a new shell to examine the situation
What would you like to do about php.ini?

4. X failed to start after upgrade
My laptop has a GeForce4 4200 Go. Even though I was using the proprietary
drivers, it would be nice if there was a warning that this upgrade may break
compatibility and ask if I want to revert to the free driver or some other
generic driver while backing up x.org.conf.
It was a pain to get the NVIDIA drivers working again, which I finally found a
helpful site that walks through the process.

Fetched all updates and installed them (about 11 updates).
Closed adept-manager and restarted it. After fetching all updates it did not

Same as Graham Hawkins, started Feisty from clod boot, Adept Updater
notices a "new version of Kubuntu is available. Please click Next" In
the Updater there is no "Next" button. Closed that. Started Adept

Click and dist-upgrade tool starts and says," A new distribution version
is available! Click netxt if you wish to upgrade now." Click and
"Error! Could not download the release announcement. Please check that
your Internet connection is active." Obviously, it is as Fetch Updates
worked. Then tried in CLI "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" just to make sure
and nothing...All is already updated.

2007-04-06 Thread Graham Hawkins
Worked fine on my home installation. Only mild complaint is that after
having upgraded to 7.04, Adept Updater always says 'A new version of
Kubuntu is available! Click next...' after installing any patches. the
Next button is greyed out but it is a bit misleading.

Did not work at all on my office installation. I suspect that this is
because it is behind a proxy. I have set a http_proxy environment
variable, and have proxy lines in apt.conf. Normally Adept works fine.
But after following the instructions
(https://wiki.kubuntu.org/KubuntuDistUpgrade) the box offering the
upgrade to 7.04 did not appear.

interface, kubuntu-desktop) configured correctly.

It told me that "third part sources" were disabled. Then it told me my
system was up-to-date, even though I hadn't installed any Feisty
packages.

So, it didn't work for me.

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-04-05 Thread icorbett
I seem to have run into some brain damage on my end but in doing so
recognized that some slightly more descriptive documentation could help
avoid this for other users. I am a long time Debian user and have
recently decided to try out Kubuntu for a couple reasons I wont go into
here, leave it to say I know my way around.

I found directions at https://wiki.kubuntu.org/KubuntuDistUpgrade and
read all the way through them before starting. The *Important:* note at
the bottom actually threw me off. I read it as meaning that Adept would
have to be quit after Adept had started Fetching Updates, understandably
a boneheaded move now that the upgrade failed in a variety of ways but
perhaps not an uncommon mistake. As such I would propose that the
*Important:* message be changed from:

Important: there is a bug in the tool, you need to quit Adept after it
has started.

to:

Important: there is a bug in the dist-upgrade tool, you need to quit
Adept after the dist-upgrade tool has started.

Perhaps this is exact to the point of being redundant but it would have
saved me trouble within my first 24 hours of running Ubuntu.

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-04-05 Thread Jan Schnackenberg
I did an update on my laptop today, which went more or less smoothly. I
had a few comments, which I conveniently left on my desk at work.

What I do remember is, that the kernel was upgraded to 2.6.20-13 which
caused unresolvable errors with the restricted-modules package. That
only exists in version 2.6.20-12 (but 2.6.20-13 is required by the
kernel-package).

This blocks me hard from upgrading my main-computer.

Some more bugs:
* When clicking on Show Terminal and hiding it again, the window do not resizes
to the smaller version again. So there is a big empty space.
* When installing OpenSSL, you need to go to the Terminal to click enter. But
there is no clue that you have to do this.

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-04-05 Thread miika
On my IBM T43 I managed to perform the upgrade although it messed up the
display. So, I had to reinstall the ATI-drivers, which was quite a task
in the text mode (lynx!) but managed to pull it through
(http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Feisty_Installation_Guide)

knetworkmanager seems to work somehow now. At least it doesn't crash at
28% when connecting to wlan. VPN still produces nothing and the app
crashes much more often than it should. Don't know if I should revert
back to manual wpasupplicant-use.

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-04-05 Thread clownius
Worked great for me :)
I had some issues getting it to work as adept didn't like my cut and paste.
Worked fine once i cut and paste straight into the sources.list Minus the
[WWW]. Might be worth putting the repositories in a code box to remove this
[WWW] thing so people can cut and paste.
Some minor issues for me when i was near finished and it listen now unsupported
packages i wanted to keep the old Linux kernel as its always best to keep a
possible backup plan until things test out. I've had to boot an old kernel
before today after an upgrade. I didn't want to keep some older libs
wlassassistant (or whatever the correct name is) and option to differentiate
between unsupported and no longer wanted vs unsupported and wanted would be
good.
Also knetwork manger seems to do nothing but thats more a Fiesty bug than this
upgrade (i think/hope). I click and no response.
lastly i cant confirm exactly where i think after i added the repository but
before it let me upgrade i had to jump in the command line and do a "dpkg
--configure -a" as everything went pear shaped and i couldn't open Adept
anymore. I think it was after the fetch updates.
Adept automatically closed when the upgrade started so at least for me this bug
is either fixed or happy with my setup.

Overall this is very close to ready for mainstream use other than the
odd minor issue.

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-04-05 Thread dkaddict
I just did a 'dist upgrade' from Kubuntu Edgy to Feisty using the new upgrade
tool that people have been asked to test. It took about an hour and a half but
aside from that everything went ok. I have to use the openchrome drivers for my
video so had to do
'sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg'
in recovery mode on my first boot into Feisty in order to select the Vesa
driver because ' /etc/X11/xorg.conf' had been written anew and had reverted to
naming the Vesa generic driver. I expected that would hapen though. Once I had
managed to log in graphically I reinstalled the Openchrome driver, amended
xserver-xorg and /etcX11/xorg.conf, restarted X and got back into Kubuntu.
Nothing seems to have been lost by way of my settings. All of the app windows
are opening where I had set them to in Edgy, my custom icons are still loaded,
windows are the same as in Edgy. It looks like all went ok. I can't see any
missing files in my /home partition.
I am impressed really. This is the first dist-upgrade I have done. I only
started using Kubuntu about 6 months ago so I am a newb to Linux.
Good stuff.
I am a happy customer.

I just finished the update on my desktop computer, and I had some
problems.

The update tool crashed on Samba's update. I made a

dpkg --configure -a

witch worked well, followed by a

apt-get -f install

who had to update two packages :

Les paquets supplémentaires suivants seront installés :
  kubuntu-docs samba
Les paquets suivants seront mis à jour :
  kubuntu-docs samba

after that, I made an apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

Now everythings semms ok and up to date.

I attach the apt.log on this message and main.log on the next one.

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-04-04 Thread Christian Müller
Worked on my VIA C3 machine (that's an old install: dapper -> edgy ->
and now feisty).

Even the nx installation that broke during the upgrade from dapper to edgy and
that I had to repair continued to work this time.

Only some small issues:

- During the upgrade I found the following message a bit confusing:
"Lese Changelogs... Fertig
WARNING: terminal is not fully functional
/tmp/tmp0lx07T (press RETURN)"

A normal user would probably ask himself: "What terminal?", "What file is
that?"
I guess the upgrader didn't expect the display of the list of changes / the
used console doesn't support the features requested by the less command.

- During the upgrade and also during the next "normal" dist-upgrade I got:
"update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.20-13-386
W: mdadm: unchecked configuration file: /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf
W: mdadm: please read /usr/share/doc/mdadm/README.upgrading-2.5.3.gz .
W: mdadm: no arrays defined in configuration file.
W: mdadm: falling back to emergency procedure in initramfs."

Reading the mentioned docs taught me how to get rid of
the "unchecked configuration file" warning but
it doesn't seem that the other warnings will go away.
I don't use a RAID.

- i18n problems:
-- Incomplete German translations
-- Incorrect plural handling: "Es verbleiben ungefähr 1 Minuten."
-- Broken character "Ü" in the button label of the remove packages dialog
in the cleanup phase (the skip button ("Überspringen")).

I have just click on the "Close" button (see screenshot). I think it is
doing dpkg --configure -a, as my cpu is working a lot, but there is no

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-04-02 Thread Geoff Mitchell
Everything went fairly smoothly with a couple of minor issues.

1) I had to remove all repositories other than the one being used for
the upgrade from /etc/sources.list to get the upgrade going.

2) The upgrader hung on "Stopping bluetooth services," so I added this
"exit 0" to /etc/init.d/bluetooth.

After doing these two things, everything else went very well.

Oh yeah, forgot to tell that even though the updater crashed the system
remained stable, I rebooted manually and at the very least it seemed to work.
After the reboot I saw a new boot screen and a couple of differences. Not sure
whether everything was updated as needed.

IS there a sure way to tell if everything is in place?

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-04-02 Thread BruceW
Like Geoff Mitchell, I had to remove all other reps to make this happen.
Well, in the end, it fails the seamless test for me. It crashed on reboot and I
had to roll it back to kernel 2.6.10 in order for it to boot up again. It
failed to recognize my hard disk. Scary. Once I got it back up and running I
did "dpkg --configure -a" and it loaded everything it was supposed to.

I also lost binding to eth0 but uninstalling Knetworkmanager and
reinstalling fixed that. Doing the upgrades now and all seems just fine
and stable.

I think that it be very pertinent that only the necessary repositories
be active for the dist-upgrade. Having too much going on except what is
absolutely necessary may help smoothen things out.

Thank for all the hard work. This seems pretty rock solid so far.

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-04-02 Thread KeeperOS
I used it on a 'VMware Player' virtual machine. Completely clean installation.
I installed and then I upgrated. Then I upgraded.

I must have used a later updater version than the one described at
http://www.ubuntu.com/news/Ubuntu704Beta

Not only the upgrade window read "Distribution Upgrade" instead of
"Upgrader <@lichts>" (or "Upgrader <'username'>") but it also close
Adept on its' own (the guide said there was a bug and that I'd have to
close it manually).

At one point I was asked (konsole level) which combination I'd want to
use in order to switch between the latin and non-latin (Greek in my
case) keyboard. Then at the Cleaning Up stage I was asked for the
removal of no longer supported packages. I selected yes and after a
while it crashed producing the following message:

Report bug against "update-manager"

Then when I clicked on "Close":
I got another error message that said somewhat the same thing plus:
Going to reboot using "dpkg-reconfigure -a"
"InstallArchives() failed"

When I clicked "Close", it crashed and is frozen.
Also, the "report Bug" button doesn't work. It seems to look for an

Som more bugs.

1) The upgrade tool crashed with next error. I think it is due to a

given by the wireless router while I use the wired router).

2) After rebooting my Macbook, I got a kernel panic. When I started the
kernel with the noapic option, booting worked again.

3) My KeyTouch (tool) settings were not loaded by default, as they
normally do when starting KDE.

4) The upgrade tool broke some of my keyboard layout changes (on the
Macbook, the buttons with the signs <>\ and the signs #@ are switched).

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-03-31 Thread Craig
I ran into some fairly major problems with the installer. It all started
when one of the pacakages seemed to have failed to download and the
upgrade manager became unresponsive. After playing around a little I
started over (adept, full upgrade, fetch packages etc) and there was a
problem with permissions on some file. I killed all the 'adept type'
processes I could see and still could note get to work. So, rebooted.
Adept still gave me the same error. So I went to apt-get, did a dist-
upgrade (/etc/apt/sources had been changed to fiesty) but it failed due
to unmet dependencies. So I did a -f dist-upgrade - and things seemed to
be ok. Then I rebooted - and now the xserver is not workingblank
screen. :(

I have attached the syslog - but it was a long process - so I don't know
if it has anything useful. Let me know what else I can supply.

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-03-31 Thread blankman
So, I got the upgrade to work, but it failed for me. Some of it was cause it
didn't like the packages I had and the programs that were running. I am a
developer, so I have a lot of things running ;) Anyhow, it should have send the
"bugs" in. But in case others are running them:
firestarted
beryl

were issues. It actually dropped beryl and I had to re-install it. I
still can't get it working again but that maybe because of other things
... the ati drivers need to get updated etc.

To make everything work cause the whole upgrade hung on me with a blank screen,
I rebooted the system. This in-turn was bad as the grub loader couldn't find
the drive anymore for the old system I had, 2.6.17.11, so I went back to
2.6.17.10 and did a:
adept upgrade -a

and that seemed to do it. Anyhow, I did finally get all the way through
after some puzzlement and it seem to be working.

For those with my laptop:
HP nc6400 with the ATI x1300

Here is what I can report for out of the box support:
mute, wlan, and info buttons work; vol-up and vol-down dont
1280x1024 with 3d works (glxgears)
ethernet, 802.11a/b/g and bluetooth all work
trackpoint and touch pad work
hibernate works (I will repost when I test suspend :)
aticonfig works (so multi screen)

Hope that helps some

Got to the dist-upgrade tool and all seemed to be hunky-dory until this:

Failed to fetch http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/edgy-

Please advise.

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-03-31 Thread knubbe
More from me...

After the crash, i ran the upgrader again, and it downloaded the
remaining packages (15mb was left of a total of 1.3gb). After the
download it installed all the packages, but on one of the last packages
("6 minutes left..") first i lost internet connection, then the screen
went black. I waited for about 30 minutes, then i hard rebooted. The
computer started up normally (with the usual error messages that is :-)
) and now i went into adept to see if there are packages left to
upgrade, it told me "..another process is using the packaging system
database..". This was solved with: "sudo dpkg --configure -a".

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-03-30 Thread Kosmonaut
Worked fine here. I used Edgy with kde 356, with more or less standart
repositories. No problems at all :-D.

Just minor-minor things: C&P of the recommanded repositorie into adept,
with konqueror and firefox gave me some strange results, had to correct
it manualy. The updatetool had some strange language mixes, it was still
understandable (and fun to read ;-) ).

Great work!

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-03-30 Thread magor
The upgrade failed.

/var/log/dist-upgrade/ said it couldn't resolve libsmokeqt. After the failed
upgrade I removed libsmokeqt package and started the update again. The 2nd time
the update worked. Sadly it clobbered my dist-upgrade logs so I can't show you
the exact error.

libsmokeqt I believe was used for ruby-qt.

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-03-30 Thread Pedro Gomes Rocha
some softwares was installed without the need or choice of mine
these were the softwares tha came in the default installation, but don't need
to be installed in the update
will be more interesting if the update works only with the installed programs,
not installing every program again, including the ones i removed before

the update was ok, but after all, my bluetooth framework is having some
problems to find my mobile that was ok before update
but there is another update for this one, so, maybe will fix after this

in general, was much nicier than previous versions updates

2007-03-30 Thread earlycj5
My system seemed to update fine with no big hiccups that I can tell.

Download was agonizingly slow though. I left it to run overnight after
starting it in the morning.

Actual upgrade took about an hour, not bad.

Minor niggles, Desktop Search and Kerry Beagle both appeared in my
system tray and Amarok was in the system tray as Amarok and under the
Quick launch auspices both.

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-03-30 Thread yodahome
I ran the upgrade tool successfully (I guess) but with some disturbing issues:
I had to delete one repo (third party) from the sources file because it
returned a 302 (temporarily moved) error and the upgrade script wouldn't
continue with this. After that it went through fine up to the point where the
packages were configured. Of course I had some software running (but nothing
heavy) while doing the upgrade and at a certain point everything slowed down
and the cpu was loaded up to a point where everything got stuck while heavy
work on the hdd could be heard. It remained for fifteen minutes or so and then
suddenly everything started working again (even the clock had stopped) and I
received plenty of error messages of packages that couldn't be configured due
to missing dependencies starting with glibc6. I closed all of those errors and
the program went through most of of the packages smoothly except 40 or 50 of
them. At one point the installer found a problem with the nvidia-glx-dev
package and hung. I had to force the program to close down and manually delete
the apt lock file. (see log)
I then ran apt-get install manually and configured the rest of the packages
(even the ones rejected because of dependencies worked!) and solved the problem
with nvdia-glx-dev by removing those packages. After reboot the system works, I
believe everything is up to date. Nothing seems broken up to now.

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-03-29 Thread Hjälmer
For a complete and total n00b to linux, let alone Kubuntu, I was able to
use the upgrade tool successfully. But--only after I learned the way to
properly edit the text strings that go into Adept. I actually broke the
file at one point and had to manually edit out the errors in gedit.

Once that was fixed, the upgrade actually went very smoothly. I'm
already pretty happy with the changes. Thanks for making this OS work so
well!

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-03-29 Thread Michael Vogt
@Arthur Penn: sorry, unfortunately there is no way around the /boot
check. Because deb package do not tell what data goes into what
directories it has to do some guessing (heuristics) for the kernel and
it has a rather large safety buffer to avoid runing out-of-space in boot
(very bad).

@Martin Böhm: we fixed a bug in the free space checking code recently,
maybe you hit that bug? If you could send me the files in /var/log/dist-
upgrade or open a bug about it against update-manager I will have a
look.

Thanks,
 Michael
