[Bug 794900] Re: libreoffice slow on screen scroll and retries the scroll several times
I just noticed that the jumping up and down when scrolling, as described above (starting point to 'destination' and back), also occurs without the 50% cpu load: it is because the text cursor is still inside a comment in the word document. This restricts Libreoffice to leave that page somehow. The comment has to stay visually in the screen and you can scroll only sofar as the size of the comment block allows you. I suggest using the Try Ubuntu option at boot (instead of going straight to the installer), that way you can get to a web browser and attach those files more easily if it happens again. ** Summary changed: - upgrade install to 11.10 using .iso burned CD.../var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman...I have no idea how to access these files for you...so sorry...I'm a frustrated newbie! + upgrade install to 11.04 using .iso burned CD -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/782723 Title: upgrade install to 11.04 using .iso burned CD To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/782723/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 795078] [NEW] No quit (as opposed to hide) option when sound menu integration is on even when music paused in Ubuntu Classic/Gnome UI
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: banshee I'm not a huge fan of unity, so I run Gnome Classic as my desktop environment. I recently decided to give Banshee a go after having used Rhythmbox for a bit. When sound menu integration is on within banshee, there is no Quit option, even if the music is paused. Google hits seem to suggest there's some magic keystrokes or clicks to do in unity interface, but in Gnome I either have to kill process or disable sound menu integration and then close the window. Surely there should be a Quit option one can explicitly select? [Bug 791900] Re: Sony VPC-F11 (VPCF11GGX) Totem and other gstreamer apps have a black screen unless No Xv is selected in gstreamer-properties under Video Default Output
Behaviour unchanged with that metacity pref flipped, however, I *did* discover that gstreamer-properties is misleading. I have to test with totem. If I switch in gstreamer-properties (no Xv to Xv) the test button *sometimes* succeeds (shows test pattern instead of blackness). However, if I go into totem, the videos still fail to play until I switch back to no Xv in gstreamer-properties. Restart of gstreamer-properties pretty much always confirms the blackness w/ test button. Probably some gui bug in application. One guess, the switch of gui pref not instantly applied so when I hit test I'm still on No Xv. Perhaps the Test button should be greyed if the option has been changed until it is confirmed it is updated in system or something. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/791900 Title: Sony VPC-F11 (VPCF11GGX) Totem and other gstreamer apps have a black screen unless No Xv is selected in gstreamer-properties under Video Default Output To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/791900/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 771758] Re: acer-wmi prevents wifi (bcmwl/brcm80211) from working
It looks like your machine is emitting a different code for the wlan key than what acer-wmi currently supports, and it also looks like the key doesn't actually change the state in the bios. I've got one more build, and this one really should get the wlan hotkey working. http://people.canonical.com/~sforshee/lp771758/linux-2.6.38-10.44~lp771758v201106091502/ Also test with this build to see if you have any other hotkeys that aren't working -- since we're fixing the wlan key we might as well fix them all :). If any aren't working, run the command '/lib/udev/findkeyboards'. You should see a line that looks like Acer WMI hotkeys: input/event?. Now run 'sudo /lib/udev/keymap -i input/event?', where input/event? matches the output from the previous command. Then press the hotkey and you will probably get some output. If so note the output along with the hotkey function here. If not you can also try the keymap command with the AT keyboard input device and see if it outputs anything. Be sure to note whether each key is coming in on the Acer WMI or AT keyboard device. If you don't get any output from keymap, next run 'tail -f /var/log/kern.log' and then press your hotkey. If you get a Unknown key number message when you press the key, note that here along with the key function. If you don't then you've probably hit a hotkey that the driver is intentionally ignoring (there are some of these, and I'm not sure why the driver ignores them). [Bug 794963] Re: madam allows growing an array beyond metadata size limitations
Here is what happened... I recently upgraded a system running 6 x 2TB HDDs with an EFI motherboard and 6 x 3TB HDDs. The final step in the process was growing the RAID-5 array using metadata v0.90 (/dev/md1) consisting of 6 component devices of just under 2TB each to use devices of just under 3TB each. At the time I forgot about the limitation that metadata 0.90 does not support component devices over 2TB. However, the grow completed successfully and I was using the system just fine for about 2 eeks. LVM2 is using /dev/md1 as a physical volume for volume group radagast and pvdisplay showed that /dev/md1 has a size of 13.64 TiB. I had been writing data to it regularly and I believe that I had well exceeded the original size of the old array (about 9.4TB). All was fine until a few days ago when I rebooted the system. The system booted back up to a point, when it could not mount some of the file systems that were on logical volumes on /dev/md1. So, it seems that the mdadm --grow operation was successful, but upon boot the mdadm --assemble operation completed, but not with the same size array as after the grow operation. Here is some relavant information: $ sudo pvdisplay /dev/md1 --- Physical volume --- PV Name /dev/md1 VG Name radagast PV Size 13.64 TiB / not usable 2.81 MiB Allocatable yes PE Size 4.00 MiB Total PE 3576738 Free PE 561570 Allocated PE 3015168 PV UUID 0ay0Ai-jcws-yPAR-DP83-Fha5-LZDO-341dQt Detail of /dev/md1 after the attempt to reboot. Unfortunately I don't have any detail of the array prior to the grow or reboot. This probably comes from nautilus [1]. I've done a search for all Wastebasket instances in the en_GB translations and it seems there are still a few: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/622618/ You can fix them by going to a url such as https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/source- package, choosing the template and entering 'Wastebasket' in the search box to locate the strings. E.g. https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/nautilus/ source-package should roughly be the name in square brackets in the pasted text. The name in square brackets is actually the template name, but it often is the same as the source package name. [Bug 795038] Re: Using GIMP in Unity is troublesome unintuitive
These problems are most likely to be fixed if each has its own bug report with precise steps to reproduce. For example, the steps for (1a) might be something like this: 1. On one workspace, launch Firefox 2. On another workspace, launch Gimp 3. Focus Gimp's document window 4. Click Firefox's launcher item 5. Click Gimp's launcher item Bug 646029 may also be related. [Bug 491644] Re: [MIR] deja-dup and friends
** Description changed: - Binary package hint: deja-dup + ::Note that I've dropped old description to focus on MIR requirements:: - Deja-dup is a great software for backup (from scratch and incremental). - would good see this simple backup tool for 'human begins' in main. - This software is good completely or in part for these blueprints: - https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/continuous-backups - https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/jaunty-backup - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FoundationsTeam/Specs/Backup - https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/backup-wiz + For Ubuntu 11.10, the plan was to add the Deja Dup backup tool to the + default desktop install. This is a MIR request to add deja-dup and its + dependencies into main. - https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/backup-manager-support - https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/home-user-backup - https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/safehouse + Note that deja-dup should not yet go into main. I'm filing this now so + that the packages can be pre-reviewed. I'm waiting for Ubuntu One + support to land in duplicity so that I can remove the python-boto and + python-rackspace-cloudfiles Recommends. Thus, note that those do not + need to be reviewed as MIRs because they won't be there when deja-dup + hits main. - There are packages for jaunty, karmic and lucid in repository with some traslate language (http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/deja-dup). - (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/324388) + Home pages: + * Deja Dup: https://launchpad.net/deja-dup + * Duplicity: https://launchpad.net/duplicity + * librsync: http://librsync.sourceforge.net/ - This software is maintained and use launchpad for translate and bugs + Availability: All are in universe and successfully build on all + architectures - I would see this software in main, not in universe for Lucid Lynx. + Rationale: Needed to meet 'Deja Dup by default' blueprint approved for + oneiric - Home page project https://launchpad.net/deja-dup - Page on GnomeLive http://live.gnome.org/DejaDup - Mission http://live.gnome.org/DejaDup/Mission - Policies project http://live.gnome.org/DejaDup/Policies - License GPL3 + Security: + * No CVEs for deja-dup itself. + * Duplicity has one old CVE (http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=duplicity) + * Quite a few for rsync (http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=rsync) but as far as I can tell, they all deal with the client program or daemon, not the library. + * No daemons or privileged binaries installed. - Thanks + Quality assurance: + * I maintain deja-dup upstream and in Ubuntu. It's slightly less cared-for in Debian. Duplicity and librsync are well looked after in Debian, though I also look after duplicity in Ubuntu. + * There is a deja-dup test suite, but it requires X/ldpt and the faking-X code I have doesn't work 100% (especially now that ldtp is broken with gtk3). I'm looking into it, but that's not short term. + * There are important bugs outstanding in Deja Dup (https://bugs.launchpad.net/deja-dup) but they are being looked after. + * duplicity bugs: https://bugs.launchpad.net/duplicity and https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/duplicity + * librsync bugs: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=56125atid=479439 and https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/librsync - Sorry me for my bad english + Maintenance: + * We're in sync with duplicity and librsync right now. + * As mentioned, I am upstream on deja-dup and maintain it and duplicity in Ubuntu. + + UI standards: check.
