[Bug 692355] Re: fsck doesn't update system info on login
I was affected by this and bug and discovered that it appears to be caused when the file /var/lib/update-notifier/fsck-at-reboot has a datestamp in the future. This will never rectify itself unless the actual date passes the datestamp on the file. The attached patch fixes the problem. ** Patch added: motd-fsck.patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/e2fsprogs/+bug/692355/+attachment/2181094/+files/motd-fsck.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/692355 Title: fsck doesn't update system info on login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/e2fsprogs/+bug/692355/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 801542] Re: Left panel status should be saved between sessions
I see. You are right, Ctrl+T do save the current settings (except for the window size though). I think this is not intuitive at all. Am I the only one to think so? I'm wondering if the behaviour should not be the opposite: dont show the panel by default. Or automatically display it only for documents with more than N pages (and possibly a configuration setting for N). Another question is, is PDF viewing an activity mostly done with different files (in which case the settings should be global), or are the files opened almost always the same (and then the current default is probably right). ** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/801542 Title: Left panel status should be saved between sessions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/801542/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 801595] Re: orca: read by word in firefox (ctrl+left) misses the first part of hypenated words
** Description changed: + Ubuntu 11.04 + gnome-orca 3.0.0-0ubuntu2 + 1. Enable Orca screen reader 2. Open firefox 3. Type ctrl+L, google.com (i.e. go to google.com) 4. The tex box should be selected automatically (you will need to select it manually if you use NoScript though). 5. Type press alt-tab. 6. Press Home - this will move back to the start of the text box, and abort Orca's attempt to read the Google Instant results. 7. Now press ctrl+left. The first word, press, is read correctly. But press it again, and you hear tab. Press it a third time, and you hear blank. Note: if you use ctrl+right to go *backwards* through the words, they will be read correctly - tab alt press . So the correct behaviour for ctrl-left would have been to read press alt tab. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/801595 Title: orca: read by word in firefox (ctrl+left) misses the first part of hypenated words To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-orca/+bug/801595/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 387443] Re: LIRC killed or sees new usbdevice after suspend
Bug is still present in ubuntu 11.04. Note that the recommended way to stop and start lirc in ubuntu nowdays is sudo service lirc stop and sudo service lirc start, respectively. The presented workaround is not ideal for irxevent and irexec daemons, since it may be that the user user is not at DISPLAY :0.0 (if it is not the first logged in user), user doing the suspend-resume might not be user user, and it might be impossible to read the config from user's home directory due to encryption. [Bug 761558] Re: Default to enabling IPv6 addresses, but set to optional to bring up devices
I'm reopening this bug, as Oneiric Alpha 1 does not appear to be able to connect to IPv6 networks in its default out-of-the-box configuration. See attached (unedited) syslog for a log of the process. The network in question is managed by an AVM FRITZ!Box 7390 DSL router, which uses SLAAC for IPv6 addressing and information-only DHCPv6 for DNS server signalling. In my test, SLAAC works (thanks to the kernel, which does that by default on its own), however an information-only DHCPv6 transaction is never started and therefore no DNS servers are being learned, leaving me with a rather useless network connection. After the DHCPv4 transaction times out, NetworkManager also logs it was unable to activate the inferface, and leaves the system in a disconnected state (from NM's point of view). The kernel-assigned address (from SLAAC) remains, probably because I was using a wired interface. If I had tested with a WiFi interface, I think NM would have downed the interface completely after the activation failure, bringing down the IPv6 connectivity in the process. The GUI of Oneiric A1 was unusable for me (not NM's, the entire X/GNOME UI was crashing) so I could not investigate further, but to me the behaviour observed seems to match that of IPv6 mode «ignore». [Bug 743265] Re: when using unity, the cities menu is not shown
I ran Natty (11.04) off a LiveCD with Unity and experimented with the packaged Freeciv (2.2.4). It's not as bad as my experience with Maverick in comment #9. The main game menu bar was always accessible in the appmenu area, regardless of whether I had one of the other tabs with menubars open or not. (Note that the menu bar doesn't show until you mouse over it's area or press F10 -- it doesn't seem very discoverable -- but that seems to be by design and other apps behave the same.) Otherwise the experience was the same as reported by Xavier Bassery. Unlike Maverick, the non-main menubars never appeared in the I've been advised that the appmenu implementation changed significantly between Maverick and Natty, so I'm going to ignore the Maverick behaviour for now and focus on Natty. Still, it's sufficient to make the game unplayable. The following are items I've noticed that are not accessible in Unity: * Main window, Nations tab: Diplomacy/Intelligence/Display/AI menubar. ** This is particularly serious, as this Diplomacy menu is the only way to initiate and break treaties with other nations. ** Various new users have complained to us (upstream) and in forums that they can't work out how to do diplomacy with other nations. I saw such a complaint in the Ubuntu Software Center reviews when I was doing this test. I wonder if this Ubuntu-specific issue is the root cause of these reports? * Diplomacy dialog, Add Clause... buttons. ** You can see this despite the previous issue, when other nations (such as AI) initiate diplomacy with you. * Main window, Cities tab: Production/Governor/Sell/Select/Display. * City dialog, Production tab: Add Global Worklist. Trying to diagnose the issue: My understanding of this app-menu-hiding-thing is that there are three important components (correct me if wrong): * appmenu-gtk, which hooks into individual Gtk applications (via the environment variable UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=libappmenu.so), finds out what menubars exist, and suppresses their display in the local application; * indicator-appmenu, which is the global widget that lives on the top of the desktop and displays the menu instead; * dbusmenu, which is the conduit for information about the menus; appmenu-gtk (and other proxies) write to it, indicator-appmenu reads from it. I'm not finding a lot of documentation of all this infrastructure, however (grumble). I've been pointed to a few morsels of information about debugging this stuff at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopExperienceTeam/ApplicationMenu . I tried the dbusmenu-dumper diagnostic step described there. But the JSON output only ever contained items from Freeciv's main game menu, regardless of whether secondary menubars were trying to be displayed. (I've got a copy if it's of interest.) I'm not sure what this is telling me, but what I see in the file seems to correspond to what indicator- appmenu is displaying, and doesn't give me any clues as to the whereabouts of my missing menubars, so it doesn't seem very interesting. Other diagnostics: * UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= freeciv behaves as per comment #7, but is a bit of a sledgehammer. * APPMENU_DISPLAY_BOTH=1 freeciv behaves as expected for the main menu (two menu bars). Interestingly, the secondary menubars are still suppressed by default, but as soon as I click on the app's main menu bar, the secondary ones magically appear. The most fruitful avenue of investigation looks to be appmenu-gtk, as it's clearly responsible for suppressing the menubars, and the evidence suggests that it may be doing so without passing them on to anything else. (If so, that would seem like a bug in appmenu-gtk to me!) * The developer page is https://launchpad.net/appmenu-gtk * All the action appears to be in http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~canonical-dx-team/appmenu-gtk/trunk/view/head:/src/bridge.c I don't fully understand what's going in in here, but it looks like it's looking for any widgets matching GTK_IS_MENU_BAR() and GTK_IS_MENU(), and perhaps ignoring GTK_IS_TEAROFF_MENU_ITEM(). I didn't see any obvious way in which it was trying to distinguish main menu bars from non-main ones (but I could easily have missed something). There also seems to be a blacklist of hardcoded application names to ignore -- another sledgehammer, if we need it. One interesting thing I saw was it looking for a property called a ubuntu-no-proxy. Perhaps this would let us override appmenu-gtk's interest in our secondary menubars? I wasn't sure because I saw words like toplevel, so feared this was another sledgehammer. I haven't experimented with recompiling Freeciv with such a property set on various strategic widgets yet. (I'd rather not have to litter upstream source with workarounds for distro peculiarities, but...) As noted, this is probably a bug with my particular setup - I don't understand why KPackageKit is being run instead of the GTK equivalent, and that's probably the actual bug. If that was fixed, I suspect it would then guide me through installing the gnome documentation packages, which I did not install. When I've confirmed this, I'll (try to) fix the description and reassign the bug to gnome-help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/801601 Title: orca help: the link at the start to Universal Access Help does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-orca/+bug/801601/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 669915] Re: Spellcheck does not recognise uppercase words at beginning of sentence
I can confirm Stephan's observation. (Kile Version 2.0.85) And maybe I can contribute with two other observations of mine. (1) When encountering the issue, changing the dictionary from English (UK) to English (US) fixes the problem. Reverting to the UK dictionary brings back the problem, the only solution being, eventually, closing the files and restarting Kile. (2) This happens when opening a Kile project file previously saved on another machine (same Kile version though). me@machine1:~$ kile --version Qt: 4.7.0 KDE Development Platform: 4.5.3 (KDE 4.5.3) Kile: 2.0.85 me@machine2:~$ kile --version Qt: 4.7.2 KDE Development Platform: 4.6.2 (4.6.2) Kile: 2.0.85 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/669915 Title: Spellcheck does not recognise uppercase words at beginning of sentence To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kile/+bug/669915/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 801215] Re: gnome-orca: List shortcuts mode: shortcut is spelled out as shift T A B instead of saying shift tab
It also says alt underscore l plus shift left (for table navigation). which seems a bit odd. It means left alt plus shift left, but at first I thought it meant alt+l+shift+left. Personally I would have just said alt plus shift left. Because I don't really have a _right_ alt key; I have an alt gr key ** Description changed: + Ubuntu 11.04 gnome-orca-3.0.0-0ubuntu2 Environment: GNOME classic 1. Enable orca 2. Open firefox 3. Press Ins+H+H to enter list shortcuts mode 4. Press 2 to start listing shortcuts for firefox 5. Press down arrow key until you get to Go to previous form field. Orca describes the shortcut as Orca shift T A B, spelling out tab letter-by-letter. Notes: The following shortcut, Go to next form field, is pronounced correctly - Orca tab So one suspects it's due to using capital letters for TAB to indicate the use of shift. But this doesn't seem to apply to the Key Bindings section in the Orca Preferences dialog. Go to previous bookmark location is shown as Orca+shift+b. I think generally seems a mistake that List shortcuts mode is implemented as a mode of the screen reader, instead of a normal window (which closes when ESC is pressed). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/801215 Title: gnome-orca: List shortcuts mode: shortcut is spelled out as shift T A B instead of saying shift tab To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-orca/+bug/801215/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
