[Bug 805853] Re: AVI and SWF insertion on Impress fails

2011-07-06 Thread Ven
Thanks Fabian! I already see your point, I though when VLC is installed, the
codec is also included. Which is my mistake. :)
Sorry about misfiling this question into the bug section. First time to use
this portal. :)

With regards to SWF, I'll just file another case on the bug section and
upload a sample SWF file.

Again many thanks!

Regards,

Ven

could it possibly be trying to use Raptor 1 instead of Raptor 2? If so,
could this possibly depend on Bug #787160?

[Bug 771905] Re: No logo at boot on nvidia card

2011-07-06 Thread philinux
Bit confusing this. I reversed the changes to the system. Then double
checked /etc/default/grub.

This line was commented out, I must have done this I guess at some time.
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash

However I was seeing a plain aubergine background for 20 secs then text
very briefly then the login.

I've uncommented the line. Updated grub and now I get this.

Plain aubergine background as previous then a very brief Logo and dots.
Then login.

[Bug 806446] [NEW] 'Incomplete Language Support' notification should not pop up without a network connection

2011-07-06 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Public bug reported:

After non-english installation without network update-notifier shows an
'incomplete language support' notification.
It is useless since there is no network and if the user clicks on 'Run Action'
it says that language information are unavailable anyway.

TEST CASE:
1. Install Ubuntu Desktop, non-english (language not on the CD) and without
network
2. Reboot and login

Result:
After a delay, update-notifier shows the 'Incomplete language support'
notification.

[Bug 806447] [NEW] SWF insertion on Impress fails

2011-07-06 Thread Ven
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I'm trying to insert an SWF file on Impress, but it seems that it is not
recognised. I've tried selecting all files, and insert the SWF file
manually and it does not play when running the presentation using F5.
I've attached the sample SWF file that was created using XvidCap
application.

Please let me know if you need any other information.

Thanks!

[Bug 805682] Re: [Oneiric] Nautilus takes too long to load when opened by gksudo

2011-07-06 Thread Brendan Donegan
Can't reproduce this in Oneiric at the moment because
https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/804330 occurs when running
'gksudo nautilus' from the terminal.

[Bug 772612] Re: maximized window is displaced

2011-07-06 Thread Omer Akram
I have deleted the package in the ppa as I can also confirm the issue as
described by Franck. (previously I did not had access to Natty).

If you installed from the ppa and are facing the start-up problem then
login to classic desktop, disable my ppa in software-sources and run the
following command in terminal.

sudo apt-get install compiz/natty compiz-core/natty compiz-gnome/natty
compiz-plugins/natty libdecoration0/natty

[Bug 491940] Re: Patch for LTSP clients to properly reboot/shutdown

2011-07-06 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Sorry, no idea. We're using only LTS releases here, and I'm kinda
pressed time-wise this year, so I won't be able to test with recent
versions of the involved packages until Ubuntu 12.04, if it's still a
problem then.

The LTSP task mainly referred to LTSP_LOGOUT_ACTION (commit
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ltsp-upstream/ltsp/ltsp-
trunk/revision/1481), so yeah, either invalid or committed will do,
until gnome-session can provide a method to notify the caller (LDM,
xinit...) about the selected action (logout, reboot, shutdown).

Another approach is to at least make indicator-session policy-kit aware, so
that it doesn't display the reboot/shutdown menu items at all:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-session/+bug/474392

From a user's perspective, that's not as good as fixing gnome-session,
because then the user loses logout/reboot/shutdown functionality from
the menus.

[Bug 346386] Re: [MASTER] Update fails with invalid package files with Encountered a section with no Package: header

2011-07-06 Thread typo
I don't get this. I thought debian packages where signed? How could a
hotel's wireless inject data into your system? I mean, if the creators
of apt did not check this case, what about about other cases? There'll
be probably more security gaps, which are yet unknown, because nobody
tested the software for security.

[Bug 802660] Re: ALC670 5.1 surround not recognized properly on Acer Aspire 8943G

2011-07-06 Thread Lukáš Chmela
Well, adding that into the file ~/.pulse/daemon.conf (that in fact
didn't exist before) made pulseaudio something irresponsible or what.
The system volume control shows speaker with --- and is not able to
launch sound settings saying Waiting for response from the sound
system.

I also tried speaker-test and only the front left and front right worked with
this configuration, other speakers were muted.
It also printed an error message at the beginning of the output:

E: daemon-conf.c: [/home/lukaschmela/.pulse//daemon.conf:4] Neplatná
mapa kanálů front-left, front-right, center, rear-left, rear-right,
lfe.

(Invalid channel map)

..I can play audio files but again only stereo and I am not able to set
the volume so I will delete the file and go back to the 4.0 meantime.

[Bug 756665] Re: postrm doesn't remove diversion of /etc/mtab and /sbin/start-stop-daemon

2011-07-06 Thread Nikolaus Rath
I don't agree. Any package should always be removable by the user. Even
essential packages guarantee that. There are very good reasons for
wanting to remove ltsp-client (e.g. by converting from an ltsp-client to
a standalone system) and there are no technical reasons preventing
proper cleanup.

[Bug 806474] [NEW] WARNING: bad format on line 25 of /etc/fstab

2011-07-06 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have that line in my /etc/fstab

none /var/www/dav/Public aufs
br:/mnt/local/archiv/Public_dav:/mnt/local/archiv/Public 0 0

to make an archive writeable for external webdav users while not
allowing them to modify original data. It's just an empty directory
mounted over an archive with aufs to make it look writable.

Works as expected, mount does not complain.

But within the bootprocess, e2fsck complains

WARNING: bad format on line 25 of /etc/fstab

and fails. Seems as if e2fsck's idea of a correct entry somewhat differs from
that of mount.

[Bug 804594] Re: reseed(8) performs HTTP fetch of data from random.org

2011-07-06 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I apologize for not responding sooner. I can confirm this
issue and have given it an initial Importance of 'Low', based on the
difficulty of properly timing the attack while also requiring MITM
access. This can be re-evaluated if necessary.

Since the package referred to in this bug is in universe, it is community
maintained. As such, I have forwarded this information to the upstream author
(as found in debian/copyright) and the oss-security mailing list:
http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2011/07/06/8

Once a patch is decided upon, if you are able, I suggest posting a
debdiff for this issue. When a debdiff is available, a member of the
security team will review it and publish the package. Please see the
following link for more information:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdateProcedures.

Thanks again!

2011-07-06 Thread Yusef Maali
All the workarounds proposed here haven't worked for me.

I have had to revert to the nv driver to have a usable system.

I tried to downgrade xorg and the binary driver but my system still freeze.
I tried (with the current xorg) all the binaries driver from nvidia (270, 275
and the beta 280) and none of them work for me...

[Bug 806479] [NEW] [USB-Audio - USB Audio DAC , playback] USB audio playback stops working randomly

2011-07-06 Thread Klement Sekera
Public bug reported:

I have a custom build usb audio device from hotaudio.com, it works
nicely when freshly booted, but when left silent (no playback), it stops
working after some time. It does not matter if the sound was used or
not. This is resolved by reboot. Unplugging and plugging the device back
in does not help the issue. In sound settings, I can see the device, but
in the output tab, there is only dummy output. Pressing the test
speakers button closes the sound properties with no action (and no test
sound).

[Bug 806479] Re: [USB-Audio - USB Audio DAC , playback] USB audio playback stops working randomly

2011-07-06 Thread Klement Sekera
I have not observed this issue when the sound is playing. The output
disappears and the sound system(?) gets screwed up after leaving it
silent for some time.

[Bug 773524] Re: [Toshiba Tecra R850] SD card reader doesn't work

2011-07-06 Thread Daniel Manrique
Hi Giuseppe,

Tested on both my R850s, one Intel and one ATI/AMD, both work perfectly
with the trick you suggested, card gets recognized and mounted without
problems.

This works even on a stock 2.6.38-8 Natty kernel.

Thanks so much!
