The error message pretty much tells the story. you have set your
hostname to thinkubuntu.192.168.1.1, which is not a valid name.

[Bug 404019] Re: xournal input defaults to diagonal line, cannot change option

2009-07-30 Thread Denis Auroux
I'm assuming you're using Ubuntu Karmic, which brings a new unstable release of
GTK+ and its new incompatible changes in the XInput event processing. Try
applying to the source code the two patches at
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailaid=2829716group_id=163434atid=827735
(should fix the difficulties of drawing with devices other than tablet pens)
and
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailaid=2816361group_id=163434atid=827735
(for the latter one: the revised version that says also fixes menu issues in
GTK+ 2.17)

Hope this helps,
Denis

Try applying the patch at

to the source code. (It adds a workaround for this annoying bug in ubuntu's

Hope this helps.

[Bug 106258] System wont boot after updating to 2.6.20-14

2007-04-13 Thread Jean-Denis
Public bug reported:

Hi!

ok, i have ubuntu feisty beta installed for about 2 weeks now. all was
working fine, i updated everyday and system was very stable.

yesterday, i updated my system and rebooted. since then, my system wont boot
anymore. while booting, it simply freezes, and after about 5 minutes, i get
this:

-

check root = bootarg cat /proc/cmdline or missing modules, devices: cat
/proc/modules ls /dev

ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/[lots of numbers] does not exist. dropping to a
shell.

BusyBox V1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-3ubuntu3) built-in shell (ash)

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
(initramfs):

when i got it the first time, i tried booting with my older kernel
2.6.20-13-generic and it worked fine. as soon as i boot with 2.6.20-14, this
happens.

after a few unsuccessful tries, i reinstalled ubuntu from scratch with
the beta CD. install went fine, i got to boot in ubuntu and again, did
an update. once the update was finished and i rebooted (my kernel went
from 2.6.20-12 to 2.6.20-14 with the update) the exact same problem
happened again.

anyone know what happened?

thanks!!

2007-03-16 Thread Denis Jacquerye
Public bug reported:

Samson C01U USB microphone doesn't work in most applications when plugged.
The Gnome Sound Recorder with the volume control or the Gstreamer properties
show the microphone correctly but neither actually gets any input from it.
Audacity isn't able to access the device.

But Ekiga can record from it.

[Bug 92876] Re: Samsom C01U usb microphone doesn't work

2007-03-17 Thread Denis Jacquerye
I'm currently using an updated feisty.

The Samsom CO1U usb is accessed with alsasrc device=hw:1,0.
Actually my usb webcam's microphone has the same problem. When plugged in and
selected, only Ekiga gets some input. When both are plugged in the second one
is device=hw:2,0.

[Bug 92876] Re: Samsom C01U usb microphone doesn't work

2007-03-17 Thread Denis Jacquerye
Hmm, now Audacity is able to access the device to record, but it has no
device to output to. So I'm able to record, with the Samsom or the
webcam but unable to playback.

Gnome Sound recorder lists nothing as a possible input device, yet it
should since it uses gstreamer. Gstr-properties lists both devices but
doesn't record/playback anything when testing either.

Gnome Sound recorder seems to lock the device but not record anything from it,
i.e., clicking record doesn't create anything but unplayable seconds. But while
it is open, I
gst-launch-0.10 alsasrc=hw:1,0 ! audioconvert ! vorbisenc ! oggmux ! filesink
location=input.ogg
and get the warning: Device 'hw:1,0' is busy.

With the Sound recorder closed, gst-launch can record. The Samsom has
some weird configuration so the volume control actually don't do what
they are expected to do. For example, full left and right channel give
only left channel.

[Bug 77957] Re: [Feisty] Regression: X freezes on 2.6.20 with fglrx

2007-03-18 Thread Denis Jacquerye
I don't know if this might help you guys. I was having problems with fglrx with
the latest kernel updates. Only 2.6.20-6 had X working. After playing around a
bit it turned out the latest 2.6.20 would have X working with fglrx only if I
had
Section Extensions
Option Composite 0
EndSection
instead of
Section Extensions
Option Composite Disable
EndSection

weirded me out.

Thanks a ton! I, for one, now consider this issue resolved. :)

+1, although I can wait for Composite to work with 2.6.20.

[Bug 94019] screensaver breaks gamma correction of ati fglrx

2007-03-20 Thread Denis Jacquerye
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx

The screensaver messes up the gamma correction with the ati fglx drivers.
Whenever the screensaver starts in full screenmode, the gamma correction is set
to 0 for R, G and B.
The manual fix is to run fireglcontrol and click on one of the 1.

This doesn't happen when previewing the screensavers.

It's probably a bug in the fglx driver since clicking on only one 1 in
the adjustments fixes all 3 gamma corrections (RGB).

[Bug 94214] dual head ATI radeon X1550 has random and frequent resolution changes on DVI output

2007-03-20 Thread Jean-Denis
Public bug reported:

on AMD64, with dual screen enabled, the screen that is plugged on DVI
randomly 'flashes black' as for a resolution change and returns to
normal after about 2 seconds. it is as if the screen reinitializes, or
at least attempts a resolution change to the same resolutions. rarely, i
will receive a input not supported message on that screen; it switches
back after a few seconds.

this problem is very annoying as it occurs every 5 minutes or so,
sometimes 2 to 3 times in a row, and then works for up to 10 minutes
before it occurs again.

this happens only on the DVI output since i tried switching my screens
and the problem switched to the other screen also.

note: i used to have this problem on edgy as well. windows vista does
not have this problem.

thanks!

[Bug 94019] Re: screensaver breaks gamma correction of ati fglrx

This seems to be trigger by the glx module.
When I updated to xorg_1:7.2-0ubuntu8, glx stopped working and now the
screensaver doesn't mess up gamma correction.

[Bug 82458] gnome-cups-manager's .desktop file should be in /usr/share/applications

2007-01-31 Thread Denis Washington
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager

Currently gnome-cups-manager's .desktop file is installed in /usr/share
/control-center-2.0/capplets/. Following the freedesktop standards, it
should be installed in /usr/share/applications. This happens upstream,
but it seems as if the ubuntu package uses it's own .desktop file. This
could be dropped in favor of the upstream one.

2007-03-22 Thread Jean-Denis
Hi Tormod, thanks for your help!

i must admit im rather new to linux, i recently converted from windows
to ubuntu. This OS is really amazing. i used to have edgy, but some of
my hardware was not supported, so i did an early jump to feisty.

The setup i have now is the default one installed by the ubuntu feisty
alternate install CD. i have no idea why i am using a wrong kernel
version.

could you help me find out how i can boot with the new kernel version?

thanks!!

[Bug 95028] Re: X crashes when testing screen savers

2007-03-23 Thread Jean-Denis
hi,

well, i installed feisty from scratch, formatting the whole drive. since
then, all i did was add applications through synaptic package manager.
as of this, i have no idea why i don't have the right kernel version
from doing standard basic stuff. could this be a bug?

also, the only thing i did that could have changed the kernel is
installing xen (again from apt-get). but then, why would xen use an
older kernel?

and, if xen is the reason why i have an older kernel, this screen save bug
happened to me even after i have freshly installed the OS and begun setting my
preferences. That was way before i did any important updates, including xen. i
report it today, but i have been having it since the beginning.

in any case, i will be installing beta today, and we can see if it
happens anymore.

thanks!

[Bug 93861] Re: modprobe fglrx fails

2007-03-23 Thread Jean-Denis
Hello,

i believe this problem may have been rejected too soon first of all,
the kernel version i had was due to the installation of xen. but, the
bug here occurred much before i ever installed xen, that is with the
kernel version 2.6.20.

to support that, i am now on a fresh install of feisty beta. i just
validated and my kernel is 2.6.20.:

$ dpkg -l '*2.6.19*'
No packages found matching *2.6.19*.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -l '*2.6.20*'

Now, when i go into restricted device manager, i see ATI accelerated
graphics driver, but both check boxes are unchecked. if i check
enabled, i get a warning if i want to enable it or not. if i enable,
nothing happens. i can try multiple times, even reboot, and retry, and
nothing happens.

any idea?

thanks!

[Bug 93861] Re: modprobe fglrx fails

2007-03-23 Thread Jean-Denis
well well, here comes some news,

This could be a minor bug, since non experts could really have trouble
over this, but after doing an apt-get update as well as refreshing the
install sources (didn't add or remove any), i could now install the
driver.

the driver is now working fine,

$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Radeon X1300/X1550 Series
OpenGL version string: 2.0.6334 (8.34.8)

the only exception, and this i dont know if it is a bug, the highest available
resolution was 1024x780. I did add my resolution in xorg.conf, but again,
newbies might have a hard time with this.

in any case, the beta seems to have fixed it. thanks for your help and
great job for ubuntu :)

[Bug 961847] Re: installer cannot start 'fakeraid' devices that need dm-mirror or dm-raid modules

2012-03-22 Thread Denis Kozlov
I am also experiencing this issue while trying to install Ubuntu 12.04
on Intel DH67BL motherboard with RAID-1 configuration.

I have tried several different versions and builds of Ubuntu 12.04 and they all
suffer from this issue:
ubuntu-12.04-alpha2-server-amd64.iso
ubuntu-12.04-beta1-server-amd64.iso
precise-server-amd64.iso @ 2012-03-20

In all cases installer does not report any problems, but syslog contains the
following:

[Bug 948373] [NEW] Overlay scrollbars of unfocused windows may be hidden by other windows

2012-03-06 Thread Denis Washington
Public bug reported:

Reproduce as follows:

1. Open an Evince window with a document open that requires scrolling, maximize
it to the left half of the screen.
2. Maximize any other window to the right screen half, and make sure it is
focused.
3. Move the cursor to the scrollbar area of the Evince window without changing
the window focus.
4. See that the overlay scrollbar appears underneath the window on the right
half.

I guess the overlay scrollbar popup should be always-on-top to prevent
such situations.

[Bug 958546] Re: Kernel panic on shutdown

2012-03-19 Thread Denis Sorn
First thanks for responding. I will try to do that tomorrow if I find
time. I already done that a couple of times a couple of month ago with
no errors found, and had/have no problems with Fedora 16 installation
(except with Marvell SATA ||| drivers.) which I still have on another
disk.

Regards

denis
