[Bug 112891] Broken link See complete list on eGroupWare Wiki RecentChanges page

2007-05-06 Thread Olek Wojnar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: egroupware-wiki

To reproduce:
1) Click on Recent Changes link from any wiki page
2) Click on See complete list (xx entries) link at bottom (assuming you have
more entries than are shown in the default list length)

Expected:
Complete list of Recent Changes will be displayed

Actual:
Wiki main page is displayed

Solution:

This should be a trivial fix, I'm just not sure where it needs to be made. The
See complete list (xx entries) link is currently:
http://hostname.net/egroupware/index.php?menuaction=wiki.uiwiki.viewpage=full=1;
When it should actually be as follows:
http://hostname.net/egroupware/index.php?menuaction=wiki.uiwiki.viewpage=RecentChangesfull=1;

Please let me know if there is any additional information that I can
provide. Thanks!

[Bug 112892] not able to change priorties

2007-05-06 Thread shirishag75
Public bug reported:

Hi there,
I have been running galternatives but I'm unable to change the
priority when there are alternatives to run it. For e.g. I can use for firefox
as well as epiphany as www-browser and by default it is epiphany. If I want
firefox I can't either lower the priority of epiphany or up the priority of
firefox. which results in me deleting firefox then giving it a higher
priority than epiphany. Although no idea if changing priorities is a bad thing
or not but unless priorities are not changed galternatives is unable to do
anything. I have tried changing from manual to auto to manual back without any
success.

[Bug 22336] Re: CPU overheats during high usage throttling not supported

2007-05-06 Thread Alan De Smet
Just another data point:

I'm experiencing these overheating problems on an Acer Aspire 3620
laptop. It's in stock condition, 512 MB Ram, 1.6Ghz Celeron processor.
I'm running Ubunutu 6.06.1 LTS.

The laptop runs _hot_. For the first few weeks I had it, it frequently
exhibited massive slowdowns that I now believe are the result of passive
cooling kicking it. (It took a while to diagnose the problem.) I've
taken to propping it up on a book on the left side. The intake vent is
on the bottom on the right side. Raising it a half inch or so made a
big difference and made the machine much more usable.

So, propped up, and using powernowd, the machine would run hot at about
78-82 degrees Celcius while idleing at the slowest speed (200 Mhz). My
usual workload is pretty light, so while hot things seemed to work.
However, Flash animations, especially video (say, YouTube) running full
screen is the big stresser. It will quickly drive the tempurature up to
90. Extended use can drive the tempurature to 95, at which point the
passive cooling makes the machine unbarably slow. Oddly enough, it
doesn't seem to help the tempurature much.

I recently tried switching to the kernel's ondemand scaling. (sudo
/etc/init.d/powernowd stop ; sudo sh -c 'echo -n ondemand
'sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor' as noted
repeatedly above) I can't explain why this would change anything, but
the machine is idling a bit cooler, 75-78. YouTube video gets the
machine up to 90-91, which is hot, but usable. Obviously this isn't a
real fix; I'm pretty sure 90 degrees Celcius is bad for the machine, but
it's an acceptable workaround for now. (I knew what I was getting into
when I bought such a cheap machine.)

A few bits of information; I'm happy to provide more upon request.

$ cat  /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/TZS0/cooling_mode

$ cat  /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/TZS0/polling_frequency

[Bug 53754] Re: ata_piix problem with Intel ICH7 chipset

2007-05-06 Thread Santos
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 84603 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/84603

@chantra:
thanks a lot, it's much better having the ubuntu kernel working. By the way,
the black list method described in

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/84603/comments/30

didn't work for me. I've simply run:

rm /lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic/kernel/drivers/ata/ata_piix.ko
update-initramfs -u -k 2.6.20-15-generic

@live_linux_secure
you can manually install a kernel downloading the *.deb files and running dpkg
-i file.deb, but the solution above is much better.

cheers

[Bug 88152] Re: Switch user causes lockup

2007-05-06 Thread chehov
Have: Ubuntu Festy + Beryl with nVidia.
Problem: Black screen on second log in after switch users.

Fix (for me?..):
1. run beryl-settings - General Options - General Options - Main - uncheck
'Sync To VBlank'
2. use option --force-nvidia for starting beryl (this can setup in
beryl-manager)

P.S. I use package 'nvidia-glx-new' from official repository but not
'nvidia-glx'

[Bug 108940] Re: [apport] package python-dictclient failed to install/upgrade:

2007-05-06 Thread Kevin Williams
I had this error too... I did a search in synaptic and saw python-dict.
I decided it might of been corrupted so I removed it completely. I then
went to add it back in, and it didn't show up in my search. So I guess
there is a package in edgy-eft called python-dict that no longer exists
in feisty fawn. It didn't get removed during the upgrade though (or at
least was not removed successfully.

Also--now that I removed python-dict, I no longer get the error. So,
just remove the package and this error goes away!

[Bug 51991] Re: Xorg process freezes, uses 100% of CPU. Can be killed by remote terminal.

2007-05-06 Thread Brett A. Taylor
I ditched Beryl because it's a little too unstable for my liking at this
time, especially with dual displays. Back to getting frequent hangs in
X. I ran gdb and did a couple back traces:

(gdb) bt
#0 0x0809c8d4 in DeletePassiveGrabFromList ()
#1 0x08092cc5 in ProcUngrabButton ()
#2 0x08142531 in ?? ()

#4 0x0858c858 in ?? ()
#5 0xbfa96808 in ?? ()
#6 0x081c7fa8 in ?? ()
#7 0x in ?? ()

(gdb) bt

#1 0x0809c5cc in AddPassiveGrabToList ()
#2 0x08092f5d in ProcGrabButton ()
#3 0x08142531 in ?? ()
#4 0x0858c858 in ?? ()
#5 0x0858c858 in ?? ()
#6 0xbfa96808 in ?? ()

#6 0x0858c858 in ?? ()
#7 0xbfa96808 in ?? ()
#8 0x081c7fa8 in ?? ()
#9 0x in ?? ()

I did this many times, and each trace showed roughly one of the two
above stacks.

This never happens when the system is in use. Occasionally, when I sit
down at the system, the cpu is fluctuating in usage for no reason (I
have a cpu monitor on my desktop so I notice this right away). For
example, it will be constant 25%, 0%, 25%, 0%, etc. Once I start using
the system, this behaviour usually goes away and X calms down and
returns to normal with no noticeable usage. No freeze here.

The unrecoverable hanging usually occurs after I lock the system. In
KDE, I have the habit of locking it whenever I leave the system for an
extended period of time (don't ask me why). At this point, I have to
switch to a terminal and kill X. I want to make it clear that this is
not always the case -- sometimes the lockup occurs without the session
locked when I've left the computer alone for a while (usually many
hours).

The dmesg showed no signs of NVRM: Xid messages as suggested above when
X is going crazy.

When it is frozen and X is eating the cpu, I can see all the windows I
had running fine, but interestingly, none of them have any window
decorations -- they're all gone. The mouse moves fine but I can't click
on anything or use the keyboard, except to switch terminals.

Anything else I can try? I'm thinking about starting to look at ATI
cards as this is awfully annoying.

[Bug 22336] Re: CPU overheats during high usage throttling not supported

2007-05-06 Thread GULLI.ver
I have to revoke my problem report from above...

On Ubuntu Edgy the speedstepping didn't work at my of my IBM/Lenovo T43p
1,86 GHz Pentium M and limited the speed to 800 MHz, on Feisty problems
occured with working speedstepping and full CPU-speed.

But: Since I cleaned my fan-fence - which was totally jammed, I finally
solved the overhating problem. Temperatures dropped by 30 °C.

I still don't know why windows on the same machine never overheated.

[Bug 112899] network-manager is not able to rescan networks on demand

2007-05-06 Thread Bump
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

If you start knetworkmanager with wireless disabled by hardware (hot key
in laptops) and then you enable the wireless it may take a lot of time
for knetworkmanager to re-scan the networks and find them. There should

not to make the user wait because can think that the network is not

[Bug 112349] Re: Firefox / Thunderbird fonts are smaller than system fonts rest when reducing the font resolution

2007-05-06 Thread jerrylamos
Problem is default font resolution changed:

To fix the Firefox font size: go to Ubuntu window top line:
System Preferences Font Details at the bottom right and change the
resolution back to 96.

That did it, or at least as much as I've tried so far.

Any clue why the default resolution was changed with May 4 automatic
update/upgrade?

Thanks much, Jerry

It seems my previous note is wrong. Your problem seems to be exactly
the reverse, your kernel is newer than the sl-modem sour ce you're
using. To fix it, you could either get the latest version from
packages.debian.org and build it, or just #include utsrelease.h right
below version.h in the same file.

Sorry about that, I don't do Spanish, only Englishm Afrikaans and a bit
of german... so when I saw UTS_RELEASE I thought you were having the
same problem as I was.

2007-05-06 Thread Mohamed Abdel-Fattah

Same here, Super Tux hangs and freezes in Kubuntu 6.10 when entering the bonus
level in the forest map, and freezes the OS with it. So, no response for
Ctrl-Alt-F1, Ctrl-Esc, Ctrl-Alt-Del, or the laptop led closed. The only way I
chose is to close the laptop manually holding the power key.

[Bug 103177] Re: boot-time race condition initializing md

2007-05-06 Thread Rod Roark
I don't think this bug is fixed. I have an up-to-date Feisty/amd64
machine with 2 320G SATA drives supporting 5 RAID1 partitions, including
md0 as root. Boot (via lilo) often hangs as depicted in the attached
image. Applying the sleep 10 fix to /usr/share/initramfs-tools/init
(and running update-initramfs -k all -u) works for me.

Seems to me this is still a critical bug.

Public bug reported:

When desktop effects are enabled (Windows wobble when moved is active,

Could you, please, open a new bug report regarding this new crash of yours?

Anyway, maybe you could answer the questions above, now?

Maybe you could try with another document and see if it still hangs?
How long does it take, usually, for the hang to happen?
How many times has it happened?

Thanks!

Can confirm this bug:
- Xsane using a Canon LiDE 25 with Mustek backend worked fine in Edgy Eft,
stopped working after upgrading to Feisty Fawn yesterday.
- Finds scanner, then produces black image in Preview, as if scanning, but
without physical activity from scanner.
- As per earlier post, after installing sane-utils and sane-find-scanner, am
able to use the commandline for scanning. Not very convenient, but better than

[Bug 89983] Re: Feisty reports suspend failed after resuming from suspend

2007-05-06 Thread Mariano Draghi
I can confirm this, on my Dell Inspiron 640m.
As soon as the laptop enters sleep mode (display, disks, fans, everything
shutdowns ok, and the power led starts to blink), it wakes up again, and after
unlocking the screen, a g-p-m alert informs me that the computer couldn't
suspend.

This is some kind of regression, because it worked as expected width
Edgy.

Suspend to disk on the other hand works ok.

I opened a new bug about my problem yesterday (see #112659), but after
further diggin' on launchpad, now I'm afraid that bug is a duplicate of

[Bug 112909] Support extended attributes

2007-05-06 Thread Johann Petrak
Public bug reported:

Support for extended attributes is currently extremely lacking to non-existent,
even if the file system supports them. Extended attributes lost when a file is
copied or moved, they are lost when editors or other programs update a file by
deleting and re-creating it, they are lost when backing up files with tar,
rsync or other programs.
There is no support to actually use EAs from GUI programs (e.g. in Nautilus)
either.

EA could be a great way to allow both programs (in a hidden way) and
users (via a GUI) to add meta-data and annotations to their files, which
in turn could be used by Beagle to allow more intelligent searches.

Making this work in a decent way and actually using it in a productive
way could mean a major competitive edge over other OS which are still
also lacking all these modern features.

[Bug 92570] Re: nm-applet dissapears after connecting to vpn

2007-05-06 Thread Tom
Hi chantra,

Please ignore my previous comment so it would appear that my dead-peer-
detection issue is also worked-around in your .deb- is this so? - I
only just realised that here we're dealing with package network-
manager-vpnc, and the dead-peer-detection issue I was refering to was
present in package vpnc.

Good work with the password issue- I can now successfully use network-
manager-vpnc as a front end :)

[Bug 112913] Evince does not handle pdf links properly

2007-05-06 Thread Bartek Celary
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Im using evince-0.8.1-0ubuntu1 in Feisty.

I have created a pdf file from pdflatex (also tried without ps2pdf) and
whenever I click on a link to some other part of the document I can see
following errors from evince: (attached).

When I tried kpdf -- all works OK, but the quality is much worse So
my only choice is to use Acrobat... which(!) I haven't installed as I
decided to stick with open soft.

If you require further information, just let me know.
Thanks,

2007-05-06 Thread Wolfgang Jeltsch
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 39756 ***

It’s not just that the user doesn’t know what’s wrong until he clicks
the “Show details” button. There is also no possibility to get rid of
the hanging. At least, I cannot see any way to make Adept send some
input like a “Return” to debconf. I have the same hanging problem when
updating a Linux kernel image under Debian 4.0.
