I like the less abstract version much better. The abstract one hardly
resembles a jackalope, and the overall image doesn't elicit a wow or

the first concept, especially with the way it contrasts dark and bright

Double click on volume icon on the panel, which open Alsa mixer and you can

I have not had a bad experience with dhcp3 server ever unless I made
mistakes in the config file. I also do not understand how you started to get
ip addressed when you installed dnsmasq. dnsmasq is some thing that works
like a dns cacher for networks. One common mistake I used to do is in
/etc/default/dhcp3 you have to tell it to listen on which interfaces the
dhcp server should listen for serving addresses. That could be your problem.

That's how I read it -- I know that often in churches you'll have

Hi Rik,

Further to this, just in case you're not that familiar with Linux: in
the list of installed files, look for the ones in /bin, /usr/bin (or
maybe /usr/local/bin) - these will be the ones that you actually run.

How do you actually run it now you know the name? Either open a
terminal (Applications Accessories Terminal), or use the Run
Application dialog (Alt-F2). Then type the name you found from
Dianne's suggestion.

HTH, and hope I'm not sounding patronising.

Cofion/Regards,
Neil.

Re: [ubuntu-uk] (no subject)

2009-03-08 Thread Ross Woodruff
Once you know the name of the program using the method Dianne suggested
and are able to run it in a terminal suggested by Neil you can add it to
the applications menu by right clicking on where it says Applications
on the menu bar then click on Edit Menus.

A window will open, on the left find the category that you think best
describes the program. On the right click New Item. Keep the type as
application, choose what you like for the name but its probably best to
use the name of the application (obviously). In the command box enter
the command found using Dianne's method. Fill in a comment. You can
click the picture of a spring with something on top of it to browse for
an icon. After all that is done, click ok.

The application will now be in the menu which is useful if you do not
wish to open a terminal everytime to run it and use it frequently, you
can also add it to the panel shortcuts.

Sorry if you already knew all that.

I have read that speakup 3.03 is available for Debian 2.6.28?

Regards

P.S I am still on 8.10 I hope to upgrade to 9.04 in a few days for
testing.

does it now work with Orca again? I have a slow connection, so I want to wait

If Surfaz didn't want to handle it (and mislead in the process), I
made the previous pidgin merge and agree to merge it again against
debian if seb128 gives a FFe.
Looking at the changelog, it is mainly a bug fix release, but some new
beta features are also provided.

Just a respectful and gentle reminder here, that Cory did give us plenty of
notice about the daunting challenges in building an RT kernel for UBstudio
Jaunty. Lot of big changes in the vanilla kernel, and only so many hands on
deck, to achieve the Ubstudio end result we'd like to see.

Hardy 64bit works fine here though.

Asmo

if you change -n2 to -n3 and try that, it may help. It depends on how low
you want latency to go, but i'm one who sometimes thinks the 'obession' with
ultra low latency is a bit self defeating. I sat in an orchestra for some
time (woodwinds), and experienced quite a bit more than 5ms latency between
me and the 1st violins. One learns to compensate. Maybe with 10-15ms
latency, and a bit of 'instinctive user compensation' the end result may be
better than one would think.

Having said this, on 64bit Hardy UBStudio, i'm writing with an average of
8-10ms (non-live. I write in the box, so to speak), and on my new Debian 5
32bit build, with a self baked RT kernel (2.6.26-rt11), i'm getting 5-10ms
dependent on task, comfortably, and importantly, with all day everyday
stability.

Previous testing, and i say this from a strictly personal perspective, had
Gutsy UBStudio yielding the best results, with latency (tested for the fun
of trying) as low as 3ms (stable).

My soundcard is an Maudio Delta 44, with the ice1712 Alsa module.

I don't use oss at all, and turned it off in the debian kernel build.

I use raw as the midi driver, and a2jmidid for any cross alsa/jack midi
requirements.

limits are:

audio nice -19
rtprio 99
memlock unlimited

pidirq for the soundcard is set at a priority of 92
jack priority is set to 89

the computer is an AMD dualCore x64 5600+ with 4gb of ram.
3 HD, being 1 system, and two dedicated sample drives.
Additional external drive for backup.

All 7200, 32mb cache.

Maybe something you see in this might help.

*Note* In the settings you provided for jack, i notice you don't have a
defined priority number for realtime, just an -R flag. Is there a reason for
this?

Alex.

Asmo,
just a quick observation.

Have you added the temp line described in the Jack readme to your /etc/fstab

I did want you to know, though, that rt has in the past run great with wine

Maybe there's a niche market with a super-fast kernel with limitations: no

Jaunty -RT testing

2009-03-08 Thread Cory K.
*This thread for feedback and issues for Jaunty's development -RT kernel*

So the new -RT packages are starting to hit the Jaunty archive.
Currently only AMD64 has hit.

No LRM or linux-rt meta yet. We're waiting on the packages to be processed.

So if you are running Jaunty-AMD64 and use free drivers: sudo apt-get
install linux-image-2.6.28-1-rt should get you a working kernel. If you
are one of those lucky few for now, please report any issues *aside*
from what has already been mentioned in *this thread only*.

 Hi Ubuntero's,

A lot of the packages in Ubuntu are coming directly from Debian
(unstable). This also counts for the multimedia packages which are in
Ubuntu Studio. Those multimedia packages are packed by the members of
 the Debian Multimedia Team.

There are a lot of multimedia packages build by the Debian Multimedia
Team, but there are also a lot which are not in Debian yet and so also
not in Ubuntu (Studio). So the Debian Multimedia Team can use some more
people who like to take care of one multimedia package which you uses a
lot and which is not in Debian and Ubuntu yet.

*Why should a Ubuntero join the Debian Multimedia Team?*

 1) It will improve Ubuntu for multimedia production (you know Ubuntu
uses the packages from Debian (unstable)
 2) It will improve not only Ubuntu but also Debian and many other
derivatives. So it will improve the quality of the state of multimedia
 software on Linux in general.
 3) you learn to build great quality packages.

 *Other advantages?*

Yes, in Debian it is possible to just be a package maintainer. So you
just pick one package which you will maintain. You don't have to become
 a Debian Developer (DD).
There is great support by the Debian Multimedia Team and the Debian
 mentors (mailinglist).

*Why not building packages for my own Ubuntu PPA repo?

*This is ok of course, but is has serious disadvantages:

 a) the packages are in general less safe and stable
 b) the packages are not tested by many people
 c) it is not desirable to have a widespread of thousands private repo's,
it's far more better to bundle forces.

 *What can I do? *

 1) Build or improve packages for the Debian Multimedia Team. It's
recommended to maintain packages you use yourself often.
 2) Report bugs and wishes
 3) Join the Debian multimedia team mailing list:

It would be great if you choose one package which you uses a lot and
maintain it for the Debian Multimedia Team! It would improve the quality
of Linux audio and it will help the whole community!

If it is installed, please remove it.
# rmmod r8169
note: If the built-in driver cannot removed by rmmod, please edit
/etc/modprobe.conf and comment 'alias eth0 r8169'. Then, remmove it again
 or
 reboot your computer.

Unpack the tarball :
# tar vjxf r8101-1.aaa.bb.tar.bz2

Change to the directory:
# cd r8101-1.aaa.bb

If you are running the target kernel, then you should be able to do :

# make clean modules(as root or with sudo)
# make install
# depmod -a

No diretório /etc

Edite o arquivo:
sudo gedit /etc/modules

coloque o módulo r8169 sem o comando modprobe

depois rode o seguinte comando:
sudo chmod a+x /etc/init.d/module-init-tools

Agora reinicie o sistema e poste o resultado.

gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

blacklist r8169

 Dustin Kirkland [2009-03-07 14:57 -]:
I'm afraid that it's probably too late in Jaunty to do that, but I'll
  leave that for the MIR-team.

It's not a MIR process question, we have traditionally moved packages
between components until the bitter end of a release (not that I
*like* that, but it was just necessary). It's rather a question of who
will maintain the package and whether we have the resources in the
server team to support it. If the server team wants it, please go
 ahead with the SRU.

well, the server team has /me behind, at both upstream and Debian levels.
that should help a bit ;-)

Ok, that's because installing phpmyadmin installed php5. Never mind.
Nothing to see here. Move along...

2009-03-08 Thread Micah Gersten
Debian backported this change into lenny. Jaunty is not affected as
it's using 5.0.75 by default. Should this be moved to the intrepid
backport project?

Problèmes installation Plug-ins aMSN

2009-03-08 Thread Olivier Marquis
Bonjour,

$ ls -l /home/michel
total 41976
-rw-r--r-- 1 michel michel 122725 2008-04-24 22:31 Annexe1-MP2.odt
-rw-r--r-- 1 michel michel 139781 2008-04-24 22:31 Annexe2-MP3.odt

dois placer ton plug-in, ouvre un terminal (menu

ls -l /le_chemin_où_mettre_ton_plug-in

$ sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

ou

$ sudo ifup eth0

Courage
