Three things that occur to me as I read the wiki. For photos, is there a min/ max specification on the mp/resolution? Does abstract cover things done in inkscape/gimp and so on? I've been having a bit of a problem with transitions, they almost always happen about 20 minutes before the intended time. This will allow you to play HD video (and provide video video acceleration via VDPAU). Normally (IME) tethering is to allow your laptop to use the 3G connection on you phone, rether than vice versa. You can also use network manager to create a wifi network which turns your wifi signal into an 'ad-hoc' one, that others can connect to. Hey there, I really recommend something like the Grandstream GXP1200 over a USB handset. It will be more expensive, but it will certainly work, they are reliable and well known and there is lots of documentation. I registered a domain and the domain registrant just redirects any mail sent to m...@domain.com to my googlemail account. Its just a case of configuring your email client to show the reply-to address as m...@domain.com when you send emails. Thats worked fine for me for the last couple of years, admitedly, I don't get a great deal of email. Maybe if I did, I'd have to reconsider, but for personal use it does the job. Works out about 70p a month, for 5 mail boxes, including IMAP if you want it. The webmail is a choice of Horde and squirrelmail, both are a bit clunky, but work fine. The packages are pretty good value for a UK web host and I didn't have any issues with them after I left the company (still used them for hosting a year after). I moved to Media Temple purely due to cost as I was paying £34 a month for the reseller which I'm now only paying £12 a month for. But media temple has been up and down since I joined and I do regret leaving Heart for them. Have a look at the Free web hosting that heart offer. It gives you a small amount of webspace with a small amount of bandwidth allowance, but also gives email boxes. http://www.heartinternet.co.uk/free-web-hosting.html is the place to go. It's normally hidden away on the website. If you do sign up for this, you will be asked if you want to buy hosting during signup but once you have signed up then you won't be bothered by the staff to upgrade. SIP isn't our main phone option - we just use it on those occasions when Virgin Media charge us for calls. I'm happy to use the soft phone, but my wife would prefer something more traditional. I'd considered a solution like Alan's but our phones don't need replacing yet. I might go down that route when they do, although the phone access point and broadband router are in different rooms, so I suppose that complicates things. Not really you only need to run either a LAN cable to near the phone socket or run an extension to near the broadband router. [ubuntu-uk] Xubuntu Cosmetic Issue
Hi I upgraded my desktop from Xubuntu 9.04 to 9.10, and did a clean install of Xubuntu 9.10 on my laptop. I find that the notifications on my laptop have the new appearance; white on black with blurring text as the notication fades. My desktop, however, still has the older style notifications which are predominantly pale yellow with no other visual enhancements. Both computers have the same window manager, tweak and GUI settings. I like the new notification style. Is there any way I update my desktop? While it's hardly life or death, it seems that taking the upgrade option does not have exactly the same end result as a clean install. I wonder if there are any other known differences which may impact in something more important that cosmetic issues. Wacom intuos 3 in karmic
Hello all, Does anyone have a wacom intuos 3 tablet working in karmic? I have made some progress thanks to this thread : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=967147highlight=wacom+howtopage=40but The stylus has no pressure sensitivity for some reason (in gimp and incscape). The eraser however does and everything else seems to work as it should do. *I have* configured extended input devices and set them all to Screen by the way. Seguinte esse tuto não é para ubuntué exato para centOS/RedHat, pois é o sistema homologado pela VMWARE então so tem pacotes rpms mais converti com o alien para .deb e instalei aki normalmente, mas sua maquina tem que ser um pouco parruda, porque se não vai chorar ou então voce pode baixar o pacote .tar.gz que tambem tem disponivel la no site da vmware. Bem, ultimamente tenho visto bastante critica em cima do Ubuntu. Vou colocar aqui um ponto positivo para o Ubuntu 9.10 Estava trabalhando quando acabou a energia aqui, e eu trabalho com o XP (pois desenvolvo em Delphi), então quando a bateria do meu notebook estava com 6% de carga o windows (obrigatóriamente) já desligou a máquina, até aí tudo bem, mas como eu ia ficar sem fazer nada, resolvi entrar no Ubuntu pra jogar um pouquinho até zerar a bateria... pra minha surpresa, com a bateria em 6% ainda consegui ficar no Ubuntu 9.10 mais 20 minutos... coisa impossível no windows, pois ele simplesmente aborta. Fica aí a experiência... a autonomia da bateria no Ubuntu é bem melhor que no XP. Comigo já foi ao contrário, perdi a bateria do meu note por que o Ubuntu não gerenciou direito a carga. Isto foi com o 8.04 e pelo que percibi no 9.04 e 9.10 existe um melhor gerenciamento da bateria. Não posso afirmar com 100% de certeza que foi culpa do Ubuntu, mas os indicios me levam a pensar que foi, pois enquanto eu tinha o XP nesse note a bateria durava 4 horas, e a partir do momento que formatei e passei a usar só o Ubuntu, a cada dia a bateria durava menos, até o momento que não aceitou mais carga. Vou colocar aqui um ponto positivo para o Ubuntu 9.10 Estava trabalhando quando acabou a energia aqui, e eu trabalho com o XP (pois desenvolvo em Delphi), então quando a bateria do meu notebook estava com 6% de carga o windows (obrigatóriamente) já desligou a máquina, até aí tudo bem, mas como eu ia ficar sem fazer nada, resolvi entrar no Ubuntu pra jogar um pouquinho até zerar a bateria... pra minha surpresa, com a bateria em 6% ainda consegui ficar no Ubuntu 9.10 mais 20 minutos... coisa impossível no windows, pois ele simplesmente aborta. Fica aí a experiência... a autonomia da bateria no Ubuntu é bem melhor que no XP. Não tenho notebook ainda estou ensaiando em comprar o meu, e como estou namorando um DELL faz tempo vai ser ele mesmo. Este cuidado com bateria sempre me chamou atenção e é um assunto que vez ou outra volta na lista. Como vc citou sobre usar a bateria só quando é necessário e carregar com o computador desligado. Queria entender, onde o SO influencia em danificar/viciar a bateria?? Pq me parece algo mais hardware do que software. O meu STI a bateria dura o mesmo tempo do Windows Vista. O interessante é que o Ubuntu não desliga o Note com X porcento como o WIndows. Ele vai usando até o final, final mesmo. Para vc entender, eu tenho umnote da Acer, que usava direto na bateria e carregava enquanto usava o Ubuntu, até o momento que a bateria não aceitou mais carga. Recentemente comprei um netbook da Asus, modelo 1002H e neste eu não carrego a bateria com o Ubuntu ativo, deixo ela ficar sem carga e pelo sim ou pelo não, carrego com ele desligado. Eu puxei o .deb no site do GetDropbox e instalei(sem problemas) aqui na empresa tenho proxy. Eu costumo setar no Synaptic, no sistema e add a linha: export http_proxy... no arquivo /etc/profile. A instalaçao do VMWARE é super simples, eu ja fiz varias vezes. Caso voce não utilize aqueles recursos especificos do VMWARE SERVER, recomendo instalar DROPBOX. Lembrando que o Dropbox é inferior, não tem interface web, tem varios detalhes que ele não tem, mais resolve bem o problema de virtualizar maquinas para testes localmente simples e rapidos. Quando voce baixar o pacote no site do fabricante, descompacte, e rode um .sh (não lembro o nome agora, lembrando que é necessario rodar como ROOT) e vai seguindo o tutorial. é simples mesmo instalar. Apos alguns updates de kernel e etc do ubuntu voce vai precisar reconfigurar o VMWARE, tenho o comando aqui, preciso apenas instalar o dropbox para pegar e te passo depois. att Pedro A. Outro detalhe, o que é colocado na mensagem inicial, como algo deslumbrante do Ubuntu, acho que é bem ao contrário, uma bateria não pode ter sua carga esgotada ao máximo, os fabricantes sempre recomendam utilizar até uns 5% de carga. Se zerar a carga total, o chip que controla a carga da bateria pode ficar um pouco maluco. Pessoal... O que percebi quando utilizei o VIRTUALBOX, é que o IP da máquina virtual era totalmente diferente da rede local, fazendo com que as máquinas da rede local, não conseguissem acessar a MQ Virtual Ex: *IP REDE: 192.168.0.X IP DA VIRTUAL: 192.168.23.X* Já no VMWARE, ele mantém o mesmo padrão: EX: *IP REDE: 192.168.0.X IP DA VIRTUAL: 192.168.0.X* Isso facilita o acesso de máquinas da minha rede na minha máquina virtual Isso é normal ? ou estou falando besteira ? Por isso desinstalei o VIRTUALBOX e estou tentando configurar o VMWARE... esse eu já conheço e rodava no WINDOWS perfeitamente... Respondendo a pergunta sobre endereço IP. isso é configuravel meu amigo!!! Abra as propriedades da sua maquina virtual e troque a opçao de NAT para BRIGDE. O default é nat, ou seja, o endereço ip vai ser diferente mesmo. Se voce setar Brigde a maquina virtual vai poder ser configurada com endereço no mesmo range que a maquina real. att Pedro A. Esse lance de bateria é algo complexo... Quando voce compra um celular, recomenda-se usar a bateria até o final pra depois dar a primeira recarga. Quando voce vair dar carga na bateria de um carro recomenda-se dar carga lenta. Tenho um celular da sansung ja com mais de 8 anos se uso e PASMEM... nunca troquei a bateria e ainda aceita carga. (dura menos que o sansung isso é fato) E olha que não tomos esses cuidados que muitos tomam, eu simplesmente uso o aparelho... quando vejo que precisa de carga eu carrego, não to nem ai se tem X% ou nao... simplesmente espeto na tomada e pronto. Quando eu comprei meu notebook ( Sony Vaio VNG-FS960P ) a bateria ( 6 celulas ) durava mais ou menos umas 2h... hoje uns 2,5 anos depois ela dura 1h, mas com o Ubuntu 1:30h Eu entendo que isso é normal, pois a bateria já esta bem rodada, mas em comparação com o do meu chefe um Accer e da minha chefe um HP, o da Accer já nem liga mais so na bateria... o HP... dura o tempo do boot e desliga... todos os notebooks com a mesma idade. Será que é pelo modo de usar ? Eu espeto meu note na tomada e as vezes passa a noite lá... digo que as vezes fica a semana inteira espetado na tomada, pois deixo ele no serviço. Algumas observações são importantes no caso da bateria: Temperatura ambiente influencia Carga e recarga descontinuada tambem Quanto o sistema operacional usa o HD (isso mesmo se ver a luzinha piscando sua bateria esta indo embora, sabemos que alguns aplicativos do windows simplesmente nao param se usar o HD, principalmente os virus e afins) Componentes USB ligados a maquina usam carga tambem ( exemplo, mouse sem optico ( sem bolinha ) ) Brilho do LCD, esse sim gasta bastante... Para pensar: Claro que cada tipo de bateria tem suas particularidades, mas partindo do principio que bateria é bateria, todas tem placas de chumbo e liquido (seja litio ou agua propria). Quando voce para o carro vc não retira a bateria e quando ela já está carregada voce tambem nao despluga os cabos... em nobreaks vc tambem nao despluga os cabos da bateria.. recomenda-se desligar para nao queimar quando voltar a energia. Seu computador (Desktop) possue uma bateria para manter a hora certa e ela nunca é retirada e dura em torno de 5 anos... Sempre parti desse principio de que a corrente numa bateria deve ser constante, asim a celula não definha ou seca e sempre tive bons resultados no uso de baterias, seja celular, carro ou outros... Para repensar: Cada bateria tem sua particularidade assim como qualquer produto... uns duram mais outros menos, mesmo sendo mesma marca e modelo, com componentes pereciveis como no caso da bateria mais ainda. Bateria viciada ??? Pra mim é balela, ou a bateria presta ou nao presta... nao existe esse lance de viciada... as celulas sao volateis... a capacidade de carga vai depende da qualidade do material usado na confecçao da mesma. Caror Colegas O meu teclado ABNT2 estava funcionado corretamente a acentuaç~ao e parou de funcionar! verifiquei que as configuraç~oes do teclado est~ao corretas la no SISTEMAPREFER^ENCIASTeclado. Tamb'em tentei reconfigurar com o dpkg-reconfigure console-setup e continua esse tipo de acentuaç~ao. Testei a acentuaç~ao na tela de login e esta funcionando corretamente. Para de acentuar depois que eu entro na minha conta. Alguem sabe como corrigir? Olá.. tenho 2 notebooks.. Um HP e um ACER... o HP tem mais de 5 anos.. sempre utilizei ele ligado na tomada (mesmo com a bateria cheia)... quando estava em clientes utilizava a carga da bateria, mas quando voltava para o escritório espetava ele na bateria novamente... Acreditam que até hoje a bateria dura em torno de 1 hora verdade Nem eu acredito !!! Já o ACER com 1 ano de uso (utilizando da mesma forma), não dura mais de 45 minutos (no início durava 1:20 mais ou menos). Enfim.. acredito que também seja questão de um pouco de SORTE !! Será que é pelo modo de usar ? Eu espeto meu note na tomada e as vezes passa a noite lá... digo que as vezes fica a semana inteira espetado na tomada, pois deixo ele no serviço. Algumas observações são importantes no caso da bateria: Temperatura ambiente influencia Carga e recarga descontinuada tambem Quanto o sistema operacional usa o HD (isso mesmo se ver a luzinha piscando sua bateria esta indo embora, sabemos que alguns aplicativos do windows simplesmente nao param se usar o HD, principalmente os virus e afins) Componentes USB ligados a maquina usam carga tambem ( exemplo, mouse sem optico ( sem bolinha ) ) Brilho do LCD, esse sim gasta bastante... Para pensar: Claro que cada tipo de bateria tem suas particularidades, mas partindo do principio que bateria é bateria, todas tem placas de chumbo e liquido (seja litio ou agua propria). Quando voce para o carro vc não retira a bateria e quando ela já está carregada voce tambem nao despluga os cabos... em nobreaks vc tambem nao despluga os cabos da bateria.. recomenda-se desligar para nao queimar quando voltar a energia. Seu computador (Desktop) possue uma bateria para manter a hora certa e ela nunca é retirada e dura em torno de 5 anos... Sempre parti desse principio de que a corrente numa bateria deve ser constante, asim a celula não definha ou seca e sempre tive bons resultados no uso de baterias, seja celular, carro ou outros... Para repensar: Cada bateria tem sua particularidade assim como qualquer produto... uns duram mais outros menos, mesmo sendo mesma marca e modelo, com componentes pereciveis como no caso da bateria mais ainda. Pra mim é balela, ou a bateria presta ou nao presta... nao existe esse lance de viciada... as celulas sao volateis... a capacidade de carga vai depende da qualidade do material usado na confecçao da mesma.
