Re: [Bug 220226] Re: Screen briefly appears after suspend despite lock
I don't know. Switched to mac in part because of this dynamic: I go to the trouble to report a bug; it gets confirmed, but nobody addresses it so months or years later I am asked if it's present in some newer version (or even a prerelease!) and the bug is marked incomplete. Unless I'm willing to keep on top of the status of all the problems I report in some bleeding-edge version, the bug gets no further attention and lives on forever. [Bug 197209] Re: fglrx + compiz fusion won't resume[AMD Feature#7647] [EPR#260329]
Bryce, are you claiming that with my stock ubuntu 2.6.27-11 kernel (which postdates 2.6.27-9), I can remove all my hacks and suspend/resume will work? If that doesn't turn out to be the case, then closing this bug would be *wrong* because after all, the OP reported the problem that's addressed by my hacks and not whatever AMD thinks is the same as this. [Bug 323440] Re: DVD+R DL not recognized as blank media
I've since reinstalled intrepid on that machine, as a minimal server install (no X, for example). I installed dvd+rw-tools so I could run this test again, and I can't reproduce the problem now. Given the number of similar complaints around the web, I have no doubt that it's a real issue, but I'm also sure it must be an interaction with some other software I don't have installed anymore. [Bug 309434] Re: Caps Lock stops being a Control key with an external keyboard
I can confirm that, having mapped Caps Lock to Control, my laptop keyboard's Caps Lock acts as a control key but my external keyboard's caps lock does not. Re-mapping it in gnome-keyboard-properties with the external keyboard connected makes all Caps Locks (including the laptop's) act as control, but disconnecting the external keyboard causes it to revert so that it only applies to the internal keyboard. ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None = gnome-control-center -- Caps Lock stops being a Control key with an external keyboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/309434 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 316200] [NEW] System unusable on battery after incomplete shutdown
Public bug reported: As still happens reasonably often with Ubuntu, when my laptop locks up and I am forced to power-cycle it, the system (by default) comes back in an unusable state: 1. It skips fsck on startup because I'm on battery. 2. My root filesystem (JFS) is apparently detected as not having been cleanly unmounted, so the system mounts it read-only 3. Naturally, X refuses to start, but worse 4. I can't even log in at a virtual terminal to fix things because... the filesystem is read-only. The only fix is to boot up in single-user mode, drop to a root shell prompt, do #mount -o remount,rw / # fsck / Then I can resume the normal boot process. Apparently according to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/e2fsprogs/+bug/89752 a lot of people thought that skipping fsck when not on AC power was a wonderful idea, but it is the beginning of a perfect storm of hassle on my system. The fsck, once I manage to get to a root shell, only takes a couple seconds, and it would be infinitely better for me if that were done automatically regardless of A/C power state. I don't know why people use ext3 on laptops anyway; it takes forever to fsck (http://www.sabi.co.uk/Notes/linuxFS.html#fsFeats). So there are two serious problems here: 1. fsck is skipped 2. can't login if the root FS is mounted read-only and a couple suggestions: 3. Ubuntu should probably not install ext3 by default on laptops :-) 4. The installer should probably partition the disk by default so that whatever part of the disk that needs to be writable for login is probably writable even in case of an unclean shutdown. Correction: it wasn't working at all @schlehmil: I have no idea what made things work OOTB for you unless you unless you were unintentionally using the open source driver rather than fgrlx. Everything still failed in exactly the same way for me. However, the good news is that the fix is the same: kill off compiz before any VT switch takes place. The bad news is that the old scripts don't work. I think this is why Hardy suspend stopped working for me after a while also: pm-utils uses a new protocol for which the redefine chvt hack no longer works. I think I may have picked that new version of pm-utils up by enabling the backports repository under Hardy. I am attaching two new files that work under intrepid; you should use these instead of the earlier ones posted for Hardy. [Bug 310822] [NEW] Should allow all displays to power down
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager [submitted at the suggestion of an ubuntu dev: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power- manager/+bug/308815/comments/4] g-p-m should offer the ability to have the monitor power down after a certain period of inactivity. Ideally it would be possible to have the screensaver run for some period, for entertainment purposes, but then shut off and power down the monitor after a bit. LCD monitors come back almost instantly, so it isn't nearly the liability that it was in the days of CRTs ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Should allow all displays to power down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310822 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 253988] Re: [fglrx] X crashes when I click on desktop near right side [AMD Feature#7647] [EPR#260224]
Considering the VT switch/suspend business in the log, this might be related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/fglrx/+bug/197209 Why X is trying to suspend, of course, I have no idea. -- [fglrx] X crashes when I click on desktop near right side [AMD Feature#7647] [EPR#260224] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/253988 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 197209] Re: fglrx + compiz fusion won't resume[AMD Feature#7647] [EPR#260329]
The current status of this bug for me in Intrepid is that without my scripts, resume works the first time and then fails the second time. The failure manifests itself by showing me a blank screen. If I wait long enough, X is restarted automatically; it appears to be on vt8 instead of vt7. Unfortunately, I've been unable to get my scripts to fix the problem. Suspend and resume under metacity work just fine. I'm attaching Xorg.1.log and Xorg.0.log, which cover the suspend cycle in question (seems to be right on the boundary between them?). Also, I'm seeing this in my syslog, for what that's worth: Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812276] PM: suspend devices took 31.904 seconds Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812289] [ cut here ] Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812293] WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.27/kernel/power/main.c:176 suspend_test_finish+0x74/0x80() Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812298] Modules linked in: aes_i586 aes_generic af_packet binfmt_misc rfcomm bnep sco l2cap ipt_MASQUERADE iptable_nat nf_nat nf_conntrack_ipv4 xt_state nf_conntrack ipt_REJECT xt_tcpudp bridge stp kvm_intel kvm ppdev ipv6 acpi_cpufreq cpufreq_userspace cpufreq_stats cpufreq_powersave cpufreq_ondemand freq_table cpufreq_conservative wmi sbs sbshc pci_slot container rpcsec_gss_krb5 auth_rpcgss nfs lockd nfs_acl sunrpc iptable_filter ip_tables x_tables ext3 jbd mbcache parport_pc lp parport loop joydev pcmcia snd_hda_intel snd_pcm_oss snd_mixer_oss arc4 snd_pcm ecb crypto_blkcipher thinkpad_acpi nvram snd_seq_dummy btusb iwl3945 evdev rfkill mac80211 bluetooth battery snd_seq_oss snd_seq_midi led_class ac snd_rawmidi psmouse snd_seq_midi_event cfg80211 serio_raw snd_seq yenta_socket fglrx(P) video rsrc_nonstatic bay output pcmcia_core snd_timer snd_seq_device intel_agp button pcspkr snd soundcore agpgart iTCO_wdt iTCO_vendor_support shpchp pci_hotplug snd_page_alloc jfs sr_mo Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: cdrom sd_mod crc_t10dif sg pata_acpi ata_piix ata_generic libata uhci_hcd scsi_mod ehci_hcd dock usbcore e1000e dm_mirror dm_log dm_snapshot dm_mod thermal processor fan fuse vesafb fbcon tileblit font bitblit softcursor Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812446] Pid: 10335, comm: pm-suspend Tainted: PW 2.6.27-10-generic #1 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812451] [c037c9f6] ? printk+0x1d/0x1f Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812461] [c0131dd9] warn_on_slowpath+0x59/0x90 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812480] [c014d285] ? sched_clock_cpu+0xd5/0x170 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812485] [c014c09f] ? down_trylock+0x2f/0x40 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812488] [c01324b2] ? try_acquire_console_sem+0x12/0x40 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812492] [c024e920] ? kobject_put+0x20/0x50 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812496] [c02c7df6] ? suspend_device+0x96/0x140 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812501] [c015d234] suspend_test_finish+0x74/0x80 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812504] [c015d2bd] suspend_devices_and_enter+0x7d/0x190 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812507] [c015d5a1] enter_state+0xd1/0x100 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812510] [c015d655] state_store+0x85/0xd0 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812512] [c015d5d0] ? state_store+0x0/0xd0 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812515] [c024e7e4] kobj_attr_store+0x24/0x30 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812517] [c01ff797] sysfs_write_file+0x97/0x100 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812521] [c01b2710] vfs_write+0xa0/0x110 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812524] [c01ff700] ? sysfs_write_file+0x0/0x100 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812526] [c01b2852] sys_write+0x42/0x70 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812529] [c0103f7b] sysenter_do_call+0x12/0x2f Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812532] [c037] ? pci_bus_assign_resources+0x80/0x190 Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812536] === Dec 21 14:34:24 mcbain kernel: [ 2457.812538] ---[ end trace dc73fa31f11f5c64 ]--- ** Attachment added: Xorg.1.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20624264/Xorg.1.log -- fglrx + compiz fusion won't resume[AMD Feature#7647] [EPR#260329] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197209 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
