[Bug 1955166] [NEW] Linphone shows chat icon with (1) overlaid, cannot view chat / annoying blinking systray icon
Public bug reported: Linphone has a systray icon which is blinking with a (1) overlay. It's very annoying. When I click on it, it brings up the linphone UI, which has a speech bubble with a (1) on it. That's not immediately obvious, but it is there. [Bug 1951571] [NEW] Profile menu doesn't allow you to sign in
Public bug reported: The profile menu in Chromium apparently has had the sign in functionality disabled. When clicking "Add", Chrome takes you to a sign in page. Chromium has you create/modify profile locally. I presume this is Google specific code that can't be open sourced. If that's the case, the UI should make it clear that the sync functionality isn't available in Chromium - otherwise it looks like a bug to anybody vaguely familiar with Chrome's sync (which after all is typically used once in the lifetime of a browser install). [Bug 1799946] Re: OpenJFX-11 does not work with OpenJDK-8

[Bug 1649727] [NEW] No sound card detected with device: Intel Corporation Device 9d71
Public bug reported: On a new Dell Inspiron i5378-2885GRY, the sound device is not detected by alsa, and the UI mixer shows a "Dummy" sound card. I've attached the ubuntu-bug dump for the laptop. I confirmed that snd- modules are loaded. The sound card is detected by lshw and lspci. It's a Intel Corporation Device 9d71. Fastboot is not enabled; boot is "thorough". The sound card *did* work on two separate occasions - i.e. was detected successfully. On all subsequent boots it is not detected. See also bugs 1641028 and 1649668. [Bug 1285861] [NEW] Gnome-shell intermittently locks up (13.10)
Public bug reported: This is likely related to #1184451. Filing bug per Christopher's request in there, so that you can see my hardware. Periodically (2-3 times a day) gnome will partially lock up. I can still move the mouse around, but clicks are not registered. Sound continues playing. I can't alt-tab. I believe ctrl alt f2 does not work, but I need to verify that next time around. Pressing ctrl alt backspace starts to restart X (windows decorations are wiped, but the frames are still visible; sound cuts out; the mouse cursor is no longer visible) but then the PC hard lock. Ctrl alt backspace works usually. I'm going to change to the proprietary nvidia drivers per suggestions in #1184451. Hopefully that'll do the trick. [Bug 1137800] [NEW] Cannot swap win/control keys in settings
Public bug reported: I use OSX at work, so I bought a logitech keyboard made for macs to use at home so that the keys are in a consistent position. Rather than try to bend OSX to my will, I though it would be easier to map the keys in KDE to the OSX positions; however this does not seem to be possible. The windows key (keycode 133, left of the spacebar) is the equivalent of the control key in OSX. I would like to switch it and left control (keycode 37) so that all applicaitons follow the new layout. (Both my IDE and KDE allows fine grained shortcut remapping, but I also need the keymap to apply in the browser, etc - so the KDE settings should be flexible enough to allow this.) Current relevant options are: Control is mapped to Win keys (and the usual Ctrl Keys) -- this gets me halfway there, but leaves me with only two special keys on the left, since key 133 becomes a duplicate of key 37. Left ctrl as Meta -- if this overrode the parentheses of the previous option, the combination of these two settings would be a workable configuration; however it does not -- with both selected, keys 64 and 37 are both mapped to Alt_L. [Bug 1088960] Re: Missing __git_ps1
Actually I was using the stock git prior to trying your ppa. When ubuntu-bug didn't let me file a bug against git, I decided to try your ppa. Wit a second, though. In /etc/bash.bashrc, now that I look at it with a skeptical eye, I see: # enable bash completion in interactive shells #if ! shopt -oq posix; then # if [ -f /usr/share/bash-completion/bash_completion ]; then #. /usr/share/bash-completion/bash_completion # elif [ -f /etc/bash_completion ]; then #. /etc/bash_completion # fi #fi I did a stock install of kubuntu 3 days ago and haven't edited that file. So my glib assertion above about bash completion working was based on a misunderstanding of what /etc/bash_completion provides...I guess? I mean when I tab on the command prompt, filenames are completed, potential files are listed, etc...is that not one and the same thing? How does that work given that the above is commented out? My own ~/.bashrc is trivial; a few env variable exports, and a custom PS1. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1088960 Title: Missing __git_ps1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/git/+bug/1088960/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1002254] Re: Cannot connect to configured VPN
More details: All of the above was with a VPN connection configured within network- manager-gnome. So, there is incompatibility in the profile that it saves. If you don't want to deal with the incompatibility, don't display it. I added a new VPNC configuration using KDE's interface to do so. With this one, I consistently get the dialog prompting me to enter the password when I click on it (or at least I did until I clicked on the old 'xxx' one, after which neither works again.) [Bug 924364] Re: Muon Updater does not show package name, version information
Please bump this out of wishlist. It is a bug, not a desired feature. As configured, I can't tell what is going to be installed on my system when I accept an update. Utilities to configure the GNOME desktop - great, what is that? Try googling for that and finding me the project page. Where can I see the source code? Where can I see the new commits that are included in this version? or Open source social networking client for GNOME event logging framework System sound indicator I get that this feature is supposed to make the update notifier more friendly for non technical users, but until packages have consistently useful descriptions the display absolutely needs to include the package name in a third column; without it the updater is missing critical functionality. [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
I have had success running ubuntu 2D to avoid this. However I finally got annoyed enough with other bugs in 2D that I switched to KDE, which runs like a champ (although the default fonts need to be replaced first thing after install.) So I suspect Unity/Compiz is doing something the nvidia driver does not expect, given that both 2D and KDE are stable with the same driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 Title: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/973096/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 999623] [NEW] Default fonts on Kubuntu desktop are much lesser quality than default Ubuntu desktop
Public bug reported: This is a bug, not a wishlist. The default fonts on kubuntu are objectively more jagged and less clear than the setup in ubuntu-desktop. Further, the fonts in various applications such as chromium, as well as general GTK apps, are particularly bad. I would suggest: * set liberation fonts as defaults across the system * turn anti aliasing and sub hinting on by default (if it is not already) * fix freetype config so that chromium displays properly As a general question, does Kubuntu have a policy on default theming? Having been forced off Unity by a serious bug in the way it interacts with nvidia, I've been forced to spend some time customizing Kubuntu. I suggest that the default install contain more customization that it currently does to make the first impression of casual installers much better. I am willing to participate in this effort if useful. [Bug 999635] [NEW] Synapse does not remember /usr/bin/symlink invocations
Public bug reported: I have a symlink in /usr/bin set up as follows: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root27 Apr 30 07:44 /usr/bin/idea - /usr/local/idea/bin/idea.sh If I type idea into synapse, it pops up a text editor with the text of the script. If I type /usr/bin/idea it runs the script. Even if I've typed /usr/bin/idea previously, it does not remember that this is a script I run regularly and let me type idea in future. [Bug 999632] [NEW] Dragging tab from chromium no longer creates a new window in KDE or Ubuntu; cannot drop it onto chromium windows either

[Bug 992543] Re: 0.5.3r512 cannot be built with dpkg-buildpackage due to unexpected upstream changes
That's fine (and I will look into it), but did this deliberately change between 0.5.3r449 and 0.5.3r512? Surely there were patches in r449 that did not trip up buildpackage. Per my description, the buildpackage route worked fine on 0.5.3r449. Reopening just to get an answer for this. If yes then I don't think there's an issue. If no can you explain why there's a difference? This actually seems to be a compiz issue. I noticed that while compiling a complex GWT project, I'd encounter a load average of 15 or so, and my system would freeze up with similar symptoms as I originally described. [Bug 926042] [NEW] Graphical environment becomes laggy and then freezes under high load
Public bug reported: I'm a developer, so I often run two IDEs, have music playing (either flash or via rhythmbox), 15 or 20 chromium tabs open, postgres running, and one or two java webapps running. As you can imagine, this can create high load. Once I hit 99% load (as indicated by the CPU monitor screenlet, at least), my system effectively freezes up; the mouse stops moving (it becomes laggy anywhere over 95%), music stops playing, the hard disks stop spinning/seeking (at least audibly), windows dim (showing that they're inactive), and my PC effectively becomes a brick. I've waited 10 or 15 minutes under these circumstances with nothing resurrecting itself; the only reliable way to recover is to sysrq eub (which always works, so this is not a kernel lock of some sort). Just to preempt a possible response, I don't think do less is an acceptable answer here. I have a quad core PC with 4GB of RAM and a 512MB GPU; it's not the most recent machine ever, but it's not shabby either. (I also experience the same issue on my dual core laptop with SSDs.) It's the 21st century; I shouldn't be experiencing freezeup by pushing my computer to the max; if this isn't a bug (which it may well be), then it should be a high priority feature to make process management better on the desktop. The UI should always take priority on desktop installs. [Bug 926066] [NEW] Banshee playlist based on path / rating loses song after path fixing
Public bug reported: I have a playlist set up to play songs from path /music/rip (where I've ripped my CDs), mixed with songs I've rated 4 or 5 stars. I like the fact that Banshee can reoriganize my music collection folder structure, so I have that feature turned on. Thus as soon as Banshee starts playing a song that hasn't been rated but is in the given path, and then moves the file, it disappears from the playlist view (because the path has changed), meaning that I'm unable to rate it. I can workaround this by adding an or played in last 10 mins, but it's a UX issue that should be fixed. Perhaps something as simple as the currently playing song should never be excluded from the playlist view works, but there might be side effects with that. [Bug 917152] [NEW] nautilus has to build search index for the first search, doesn't warn user what's happening
Public bug reported: My downloads directory has 1177 files in it. With nautilus opened on Downloads, I press ctrl F, and type any word. Initial search takes 10+ seconds (presumably to build the index?) Subsequent searches are fast enough to be useful. The initial time is a problem, because nautilus does not report to the user what it's doing. Most non technical users will give up, and close the window, believing that nautilus search is slow, and probably won't reuse search. Multiple approaches to fixing this could be taken; e.g. background build of indices, or just better user messaging (Because this is the first time you've used search, we need to create an index. [Bug 917152] Re: nautilus has to build search index for the first search, doesn't warn user what's happening
Sorry, I really think this is a bug. Searching 1177 titles should take less than 1 second, even reading them off disk. It's not wishlist to say that 10+ seconds is too slow. ls can read the directory contents in 0.033s. If you're telling me that it waits to display items until it has also scanned all of their contents, then that's also a bug. It should display results as it finds them, and any logical implementation of this would display title results first. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/917152 Title: nautilus has to build search index for the first search, doesn't warn user what's happening To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/917152/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 773751] Re: With nvidia twinview, unity right snap happens only on the right of the right monitor
Frankly I find it mind boggling that the Unity project doesn't have a dual monitor nvidia system to test with. [Bug 776803] Re: Natty does not shut down cleanly (enough for my BIOS)
Here's some additional information: The message actually refers to failed startup; this seems to be because the shutdown leaves it in an invalid state. When it's in this state, the BIOS loading screen comes up briefly, goes away, and comes back - hence the failed startup. [Bug 776803] Re: Natty does not shut down cleanly (enough for my BIOS)
@Haedri mostly confirmed. 1) Reboot either from GDM or Unity menu. 2a) If I go into BIOS, it reboots by itself after about 1 minute. 2b) If I let it boot, it gets to a purple screen, which stays blank (grub or plymouth?) for about 20 seconds, and then reboots itself. 3) On this boot, I get the grub menu (which I usually don't see). I hit the default, and it boots successfully. I do not get this partial bootup behaviour on normal startup. I also retested my earlier Unity vs GDM shutdown assertion, which I can no longer reproduce :( ... I'm sure I saw the behaviour as described, but I think I misattributed it. So I don't believe this is a Unity bug any longer. Seems more likely that this is a gnome issue in general. I will try some other experiments. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/776803 Title: Natty does not shut down cleanly (enough for my BIOS) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/776803/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 776803] Re: Natty does not shut down cleanly (enough for my BIOS)

[Bug 776803] Re: Natty does not shut down cleanly (enough for my BIOS)
Next experiment: sudo shutdown now (from either within Gnome terminal or from a safe mode boot) leads to the recovery menu, not to shutdown. If I click resume boot from the recovery menu, it gets to the last stage before it would normally give me a prompt (checking battery state) and freezes. Unity folks, sorry for the misdiagnosis. [Bug 776803] Re: Natty does not shut down cleanly (enough for my BIOS)
Yes. This appears to be a unity bug. Shutting down from GDM does not result in the complaint from the BIOS. The shutdown from the unity menu shuts down the computer extremely fast (3s); I don't see the purple plymouth screen. The shutdown from the GDM menu takes in the order of 10s, and I see the plymouth screen with the shutdown dots. Ergo I think the fix is to change whatever shutdown routine the unity menu calls to either delegate to the GDM routine, or to do substantially the same thing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/776803 Title: Natty does not shut down cleanly (enough for my BIOS) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/776803/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
