I am not sure that this matters but the "Volume Control" panel does not
include a task bar. It has a drop down selector titled "Device:" with the
options described below.

Using your instructions I find that I have the following "Device:" entries:

HDA Intel (Alsa mixer)
Realtek ALC269 (OSS Mixer)
Playback: HDA Intel - ALC269 Analog (PulseAudio Mixer)
Capture: Monitor of HDA Intel - ALC269 Analog (PulseAudio Mixer)
Capture: HDA Intel - ALC269 Analog (PulseAudio Mixer)

I have tried all of them. When I rub my finger across the mike I can get
static out of my speaker but no sound recorded with Audacity.

Done. They have been filed as bugs
#352480and
#352487 .

Sorry if the bug description is not accurate enough, but I'm not used to
this. If you have any suggestion, it will be welcome =).

done so, could you please go to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ and open a

While testing the beta candidate I noted the same issues that in previous
releases. The audio is played so low both in the in-built speakers and
through the headphones and the touch screen doesn't work at all.

This may help:

Hi,

Also, is it in your GNOME ALSA Mixer settings (double click the
speaker) you can go into File>Change devices and pick the external
card considering that it has a driver in the build or class compliant
?

That should help...

Thanks

Could it be in the alsa mixer that you are getting feedback on the mic

Previous versions of Administration->Printing->New would automatically find my
network connected printer. This beta was not able to find my printer.

Also the Lenovo S10 mike (both external and internal) still doesn't work with
software. I tried it with both Audacity and gnome-sound-recorder 2.26.0.

I can create a feedback loop by cranking up the volume and the mike-speaker
feedback will squeal. So I know mike input works I just can't capture from it
with software.

Re: Ubuntu Netbook Remix beta candidate testing

2009-03-30 Thread Kent Loobey
I have a problem with the screen size of the beta posted on March 30 th. The
install display pages fit my Lenovo S10 (1024x600) fine until the "Prepare disk
space" page and it is wider than my display so that the right hand side is cut
off. The "Prepare partitions" page is also cut off on the right hand side.
The
rest of the install pages continue to be to wide.

ALT-"left mouse button down" lets me move the page around though.

2009-03-30 Thread Tiago Ribeiro
Usually that doesn't work in these cases because you can make the window
disappear outside your desktop but not the top of it which is what matters here.
I have an Acer Aspire One with 1024x600. Of course I needed to do this
workaround very few times but in those few times often it didn't work.

One thing you might try, is to hold the key then left-click and
hold somewhere in the window. In some cases, this will allow you to
move the window around to a better location.

Thank you, Javier,

I've installed on an Asus R2 the current development branch version but all
windows are too big for the current display size (800x480) and I can't
scroll down the screen to see the "Accept/Cancel" buttons and so on. How can
I do it?

Thanks,

Hello,

Please find the procedure to write the image to the USB drive in the
following link:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MobileTeam/Mobile/HowTo/ImageWriting

After that, just boot from the USB drive and the installer will be launched.

Best regards,

Re: Ubuntu Netbook Remix beta candidate testing

2009-03-25 Thread Brian DeLacey
Hi Tobin,

I fixed the setting for "input source" as you suggest and I also had to
change the "Sound Preferences" as follows:

Go into "Sound Preferences" and change the "Audio Conferencing" options:

Set "Sound playback" to "PulseAudio Sound Server"

Set "Sound capture" to "PulseAudio Sound Server"

And, under "Default Mixer Tracks" option:

Set the Device to "HDA Intel (Alsa Mixer)"

Some other combinations may work as well or better, but this combination
worked for me on two different Aspires. Sound Recorder and Audacity are both
now able to record in the UNR beta.

Thanks for your help!
   Brian

Re: Ubuntu Netbook Remix beta candidate testing

2009-03-25 Thread Tobin Davis
To get audio recording with the external mic, you need to open the sound
mixer panel (click on the speaker in the task bar), select the options
tab, and change the input source from I-Mic to E-Mic. You may need to
enable this tab in the preferences window.

Re: Ubuntu Netbook Remix beta candidate testing

2009-03-25 Thread Brian DeLacey
Very nice UI, the USB install was easy to work with, and the system boots up
quickly. I think this beta is a revolutionary release.
I installed it on two different models of the Acer Aspire One - one has a
hard disk, the other has SSD. Overall, it seems to work quite well and looks
good. (I couldn't get Sound Recorder working with a plug-in microphone but
recording with Audacity worked fine. I will log the test results.)

I also successfully launched the live version on a Compal Jax 10 (no touch
screen or wireless working, but fine with a USB mouse and wireless adapter.)

I love this product. I have been using it on my Lenovo S10 for about a month
now (I have been keeping it up-to-date with apt-get.). So I will definitely
download and test the img you specified. Thanks so much for getting this
product out the door.

Great news. I just wanted to make sure that this remix wasn't only targeted
to netbooks.

Yes, it can be installed and works well! It helps if you increase the
panel size for touch and there's also a gconf key that increases the
button/widget sizing in the launcher, so it's easier to use with
touchscreens (needs a restart of the launcher):

gconftool-2 --set /apps/netbook-launcher/tablet_mode --type BOOL true

this setting could be a bit rough around the edges, but I use UNR on my
Samsung Q1 daily, and it seems fine.

Regards,

Neil

P.S. I also find it useful to hack $your_fav_gtk_theme's gtkrc and
increase the xpadding and ypadding attributes for scrollbars, checkboxes
and radiobuttons, to make gnome a bit more touch-friendly :)

March IIRC) the partitioner on the install was broken..i will test
this again in the next couple of days

Hi,

Can Ubuntu Netbook Remix be installed in UMPCs? Has any UMPC tested with it
or it is only for netbooks?

Thanks,
Javi

Ubuntu Netbook Remix beta candidate testing

2009-03-25 Thread Paul Larson
There is only a short time left before 9.04 beta, but a beta candidate
is available at:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/cdimage/ubuntu-netbook-remix/daily-live/current/jaunty-netbook-remix-i386.img

If you have a netbook, and would like to help, grab the image and a USB
stick to boot from and head over to:
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/test/2475

There you will find some basic test plans for testing the install of
UNR. While you are waiting on the image to download, you may wish to
create an account on http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com so you can log your test
results.

Even if you are not ready to install a beta of Jaunty UNR on your
netbook, you can still help by running through the live boot test that
is listed there. Please let us know about any bugs you find, and
whether the installs passed or failed on your hardware.

Thanks,
Paul Larson
