Re: Introducing myself to the Ubuntu Community

2014-12-09 Thread Nicholas Skaggs
Nikola, hello! Happy to hear from you. Since you are interested in
programming and are learning python, I would recommend learning to write
some autopilot tests. As luck would have it, this week is the core apps
hack days,
http://developer.ubuntu.com/2014/12/year-end-core-apps-hack-days/. Hop
on IRC and say hello. The core app developers would love your help, and
I'll be around too to help explain how to write autopilot tests, etc.
Look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/Roles/TestWriter and branch out
from there. Some good reading to do ;)

Looking forward to working with you,

Nicholas

Hi Nikola,

linuxpadawan [1[ is still in early days, but you are welcome to have a read
and see if there is master who can help you. As you will read, it is
possible to be a master and a padawan at the same time. Helping people who
want to help people is the aim of that team.

Regards,

Phill.

I was responding to Nikola's message about being a programmer who is also
interested in being part of the Ubuntu community. I thought it would be
nice to share some (free) software resources with Nikola.

Ultimately Linux is software. I figured that Nikola (and possibly others)
would be interested in free resources to help them/others develop software.
The reasons why I posted to the list rather than solely to Nikola was 1) to
inform others and 2) to find out if other people knew about other resources
that I should know about.

Ian

I fail to see how this reply is related in any way to the Ubuntu Quality
team, or even Ubuntu.

Can you please stop sending irrelevant (that look like) advertising
messages to the list?

Cheers,

Hi Nikola,

You seem to be interested in programming. Have you heard of the ACCU (
accu.org)? They have two magazines - CVu and Overload of which Overload is
available for free from their website (
http://accu.org/index.php/journals/c78/).

Not sure if you're into Linux or not but Linux Voice (
http://www.linuxvoice.com) states "No later than nine months after first
publicaton, we will relicense all of our content under the Creative Commons
CC-BY-SA licence, so that old content can still be useful, and can live on
even after the magazine has come off the shelves"

HTH,
