* https://pad.lv/2028282 || Triaged   | openssh |
SSH pubkey authetication fails when GSSAPI enabled
Colin pushed a commit on salsa, which fixed the issue that we'll
eventually get in a future merge.
* https://pad.lv/2077264 || New   | clamav  | Stuck at splash
screen while shutting down due to clamd/clamav
The issue occurs again after upgrading to clamav 1.0.7, which is in
updates. I asked for a new crash dump file.
* https://pad.lv/2084411 | New   | mysql-8.0   | package

According to the logs, the 3306 port is in use. I asked the user to check
what else was using it, and I marked it "Incomplete."
* https://pad.lv/2084459 | New   | qemu|
Windows VM live migrations fails - Jammy
The bug was fixed on RH 9 with the commit provided by the reporter. In
the BZ bug there are steps to reproduce. The only thing is that the commit
message says "New KVM_CLOCK flags were added in the kernel...". So, I
checked which kernel was affected by this:

https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/c68dc1b577eabd5605c6c7c08f3e07ae18d30d5d
IIUC, it's from kernel 5.16rc1... but Jammy is 5.15 on Server... and
RedHat 9 is 5.14 (but they fixed the issue with the fix provided in the
bug... :/). I added server-todo tag to continue with this.

Tuesday bug triage 2024-09-23

2024-10-14 Thread Miriam Espana Acebal
Hi team,

this a late triage... sorry for the inconvenience.

= Bug Triage =

Team 'ubuntu-server' currently subscribed to 283 bugs
Bugs last updated on 2024-09-23 (Monday)
Date range identified as: "Tuesday triage"

Found 13 bugs, worth mentioning:

* https://pad.lv/2077264 | New | clamav | Stuck at splash screen while
shutting down due to clamd/cla… |
I loaded the crash dump provided by the reporter and the crash happens
when scanning a particular file ( splunk-kafka-connect-v1.1.0.jar). I asked
the user to do the scan only in that file to see if it happens again and if
they can provide the ClamAV logs (I didn't see it in the compressed crash
file).
Also, the user is using old clamav version (1.0.5), and we have (1.0.7)
in updates.

* https://pad.lv/2081707 | New   | authbind  |  [SRU] Please enable
frame-pointer on Noble
  Driven by Foundations.

* https://pad.lv/2081755 | New   |  nut  |
systemd-tmpfiles[949391]: /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/nut-common-tmpfiles.conf:8:
Duplicate line for path "/run/nut", ignoring.
I could reproduce the bug on Debian Sid, so I suggest the user to file a
bug on Debian. I marked it "Triaged" and added "needs-debian-bug-report"
tag.

Postponed bugs > 60 days, 3. Worth to mention, 2:

* https://pad.lv/2043471 || DMN | Confirmed | edk2
   | armhf VMs broken with more than 3GB of RAM |
I'm confused with this one. Mkukri from Foundations has it assigned, but
in the comments he said that he thinks is not a edk2 bug anymore, and
Paride open a qemu task an marked it as "Incomplete"... I pinged both for
clarification (also because my computer refuses to create the armhf image
nor with autopkgtest-build-qemu - I saw bug #2060187- neither with
autopkgtest-buildvm-ubuntu-cloud -it stucks for a while...-)

* https://pad.lv/2056372 || DMN | Triaged   | exim4
  | Enabling SPF checks with CHECK_RCPT_SPF doesn't work |
Here we had a two-path choice: latest proposal from Bryce to improve
Exim4 docs and the last comment from the user asking for MIR libspf2 (which
seems Mitch was looking at). I pinged Mitchell and added
server-triage-discuss in case you are interested in taking a look at the
topic again.

Postponed bug > 180 days, 1:
* https://pad.lv/2033905 || D   | Triaged   | qemu
   | qemu-system-arm is missing dependency seabios |

Sergio was waiting on the Debian maintainer. I'm CCing him this because
he's on time off and might forget to ping him when he returns.

Tuesday bug triage 2024-09-30

2024-10-11 Thread Miriam Espana Acebal
I wasn't available that week, so I am reporting this now (sorry for the
inconvenience).

= Bug Triage =

Team 'ubuntu-server' currently subscribed to 292 bugs
Bugs last updated on 2024-09-30 (Monday)
Date range identified as: "Tuesday triage"

Found 9 bugs, worth to mention are these two:

* https://pad.lv/2073536 || D   | Expired   | libapache2-mod-perl |
 ModPerl does not work
Because I had a stopped Mantic LXD container, I gave it a try, as the
reporter said that it happened when upgrading from M-> N. I was unable
to reproduce it either(as were Sergio and Paride): I marked it as invalid
due to possible local configuration issues.

* https://pad.lv/2083236 || D   | New   | libnet-ip-perl  |
Net::IP->intip return undef for IP 0.0.0.0 instead of 0
The reporter provides an upstream's patch. I scripted a reproducer to
verify the bug and marked it as server-todo and bite-size. It could be a
good one for a beginner looking for an SRU (it affects all the series).

* https://pad.lv/2026757 |  *  | DJKLM   | Incomplete| dnsmasq  |
dnsmasq on Ubuntu Jammy crashes on neutron-dhcp-agent updates
A user has provided a possible fix from upstream. I followed Sergio's
behaviour in this bug and prepared a package in a PPA with the fix, so the
user can test it because there are no clear steps to reproduce (I asked for
them too, and I mentioned it as necessary for a future SRU in passing).

I replicated Andreas' steps with the smb.conf provided by the user, and I

experiencing or if their changes were removed totally.

Tuesday bug triage (9/16)

2024-09-23 Thread Miriam Espana Acebal
Hello all,

This is a late triage Tuesday report from last week (2024-09-16). Sorry for
the
delay and I would like to thanks Athos for his support on this.

Found 8 bugs, 1 postponed bug.

Actions taken:
* Make aware last asignees of some bugs about new comments (just in case).

* https://pad.lv/2074234 || D   | Confirmed | samba
  | net usershare add: cannot convert name everyone to a SID. T… |

Asked the user if this is still happening (as I saw in the logs networks
issues). Shared with the user a similar (but old) bug and info about the
guest account also. Marked as Incomplete.

* https://pad.lv/2077264 || D   | New   | clamav
   | Stuck at splash screen while shutting down due to clamd/cla… |

Asked the user to share the crash file with a command-line downloadable
link (wget/curl) for security reasons. Marked as Incomplete. Later, I found
I should asked for the link via errors.ubuntu.com (noted for next time).

* https://pad.lv/2080889 || D   | New   | clamav
   | package clamav-freshclam 0.103.12+dfsg-0ubuntu0.22.04.1 fai… |

This system seems a bit unstable from the DpkgHistoryLog... it seems
something went wrong even before updating this package. Asked the user
for getting more output reconfiguring the package. Marked as incomplete.

No Discourse Comments arose.

Until next time!

Tuesday Bug Triage (2022-10-18)

2022-10-20 Thread Michał Małoszewski
Hi all,

My report's been reviewed by Lucas, who was in charge of the bug triage
that day.

Bugs last updated on 2022-10-17 (Monday)
Date range identified as: "Tuesday triage"
Found 27 bugs

*https://pad.lv/1926119 - *+(Confirmed)[samba]
- Server Browse List missing*
Nobody is assigned to that bug. Clicking on "See full activity log" I see
that Bryce's added bug task, so we can assume that bug is under control and
we can simply move on.

*https://pad.lv/1990499 - +(Fix Committed)
[libvirt] - Cannot use
/usr/lib/u-boot/qemu-riscv64_smode/uboot.elf as …*
Waiting for the SRU team to review the bug fix.

*https://pad.lv/1988055 - *(Fix Committed)
[unbound] - unbound-checkconf treats valid config as invalid*
Nothing to do here. The person who has reported or fixed the bug should do
the verification (in this case reporter). Otherwise, Lena will do that (it
was mentioned on the housekeeping meeting)

*https://pad.lv/1988224 - *(Fix Committed)
[apache2] - apache stuck and child processes fail to start*
The update caused a regression in gvfs on arm64 and it requires further
investigation.

*https://pad.lv/1988589 - (Incomplete)
[mysql-8.0] - Impossible to change the server port*
@Lena Voytek , reporter waits for your reply,
there is a new comment.

*https://pad.lv/1993081 - (New)[samba]
- Installing samba-dev:i386 breaks Ubuntu 22.04.1.*
Lucas has added comment there, but there is a quick answer from the bug
reporter. @Lucas Kanashiro

*https://pad.lv/1993173 - (New)
[mysql-8.0] - Apparent corruption of an index page*
I think that bug reporter should provide the proper steps to reproduce it
or at least find a fix and then we can create a PPA and ask users for
testing. I will politely suggest it and try to help then.

Well done on your first triage, and good job with writing up the report.
It's particularly valuable as it enables wider feedback on this list.

I don't think running mysql_secure_installation makes sense on Ubuntu
(or Debian) - certainly not straight after installation - because
package maintainer scripts arrange to set secure defaults themselves.
Setting a root password reduces security because by default only Unix
socket authentication is permitted, which is guaranteed, rather than
relying on a secret that could be guessed or brute forced.

However I can understand how a user, guided by upstream or external
docs, would think that's an appropriate step that should be followed,
then see it fail, and then think that there's a bug. That's a poor UX,
and a poor UX is a valid bug.

I wonder if we should perhaps stop shipping mysql_secure_installation
entirely? Or, if it does something useful that someone might want to
run, then what can be adjusted to make this a better UX for users who
fall into this trap? This might be worth discussing with upstream.

I'm familiar with this. Steve is working on the move to socket
activation, so I commented and also subscribed Steve.

Tuesday Bug Triage Report (2022-09-27)

2022-09-28 Thread Michał Małoszewski
Hi all,

Here is my first triage report.
I've added my comment to each bug url below to show you my way of thinking
and that the results didn't come out of the blue.
My report's been reviewed by Lucas, who was in charge of the bug triage
that day.

Bugs last updated on 2022-09-26 (Monday)
Date range identified as: "Tuesday triage"
Found 7 bugs

*https://pad.lv/1978064 - +(Confirmed)
[libvirt] - [Libvirt} IceLake CPU model not
recognized*
So here, Lena takes care of that bug and the last comment has been added +-
13 hours ago.
The status in each release is marked well. (The comments show it)
Nothing to add here.

*https://pad.lv/1983605 - *+(Triaged)
[exim4] - exim4 autopkgtest failure on ppc64el*
The bug verified by Sergio and last comment from Bryce some hours ago. I
have nothing to add here.

*https://pad.lv/1990668 - +(Incomplete)
[python-oauthlib] - package python3-oauthlib 3.2.0-1ubuntu0.1 failed
to install…*
I have nothing to add here. Bug reported 4 days ago by Luis Rodriguez and
it was checked by Sergio. Waiting for feedback.

*https://pad.lv/1980466 - (Confirmed)
[mysql-8.0]- mysql_secure_installation can not set root
password and end…*
Here I was very careful when I've noticed that it's mysql issue. I have
added workaround for it in the comment sections.
@Robie Basak , @Lena Voytek
could you take a look at this bug and maybe
suggest or prompt if there is a way to improve the workaround or the
solution in general.

*https://pad.lv/1982727 - *(Won't Fix)

*https://pad.lv/1990853 - (New)
[libvirt] - uvt-kvm: error: libvirt: Requested

This bug reporter seems to be really self-confident and his karma is really
high. So honestly what I would do here is to try to reproduce what he has
written and think about new steps or ping someone who is experienced in
that kind of things.
Lucas reproduced the bug and added a comment there with more detailed
steps. Also a new task for uvtool was added by Lucas and marked as Triaged.
Bug added to our backlog.

*https://pad.lv/1990863 - (New)

Here I didn't comment that one because I was unsure about it. I mean: I
think that this person should list the steps to reproduce it easily apart
from writing the scope of the problem.
Honestly, in my opinion that description is a bit overwhelming.
Lucas asked for more information, especifically their changes in the config
file so we can better investigate the upgrade path they are going through.

Last I checked, there were still a few bugs open upstream. I will check

I agree the placement of the SCRAM module is unfortunate (being in the
gssapi mit package), and it prevents someone who prefers the heimdal
gssapi plugin to install the scam plugin, but we have to think about
it a bit:
- this is moving a module from one package to another. How much of a
surprise will this be to our sasl users? Some users might be using
sasl without even knowing it
- is there a risk of someone who was using either SCRAM or any of the
GSSAPI plugins of losing access to either of them after a
dist-upgrade? If yes, this can have serious consequences (i.e., loss
of authentication and access to a service)
- the real bug is that you cannot have both the heimdal gssapi sasl
plugin and SCRAM installed at the same time, because the packages that
contain these plugins conflict with each other.

Tuesday bug triage report (2022-06-20)

2022-06-21 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Bugs last updated on 2022-06-20 (Monday)
Date range identified as: "Tuesday triage"
Found 14 bugs

Most of them handled by the team already, a couple of comments below:

## https://pad.lv/1968922 - (Confirmed) [nss] - libnss3
is affected by CVE-2022-22747

User is requesting a fix for this CVE. This CVE was marked as Low priority
in the security tracker, not sure if the Security team will be fixing it.
Maybe someone from the Security team could add a better explanation there.

## https://pad.lv/1970507 - (Fix Committed) [xen] - No
security updates since release in all Ubuntu releases

There is a big debdiff to fix some CVEs in xen. It will require some time
to review it, but this should be going to the security pocket, so the
Security team would be the one sponsoring it.

Confirmed that the bug is still reproducible in Kinetic, so I believe we
should at least leave this task New (if not Triaged) so that Foundations
can be aware of it.

Sergio mentioned he'd take a look at this but I am not sure if he is still

the issue. Subscribed ubuntu-server.

I'll be working on it. Added the server-todo tag and subscribed

# https://pad.lv/1976307 - (New)[nut] - Stack

This is crashing when using the gamatronic driver. The latest upstream
version (not even in Debian) has some changes in this driver which might
contain the fix. I provided a PPA with the new version and asked the bug
reporter to test it. In case this fixes their issue we can try to track
down the needed patch and SRU it to Jammy.

This looks like an upstream bug to me. Lena tagged the bug as

here.

# https://pad.lv/1974251 - (Incomplete) [apache2] -

The user experienced this bug in Jammy but according to them it is fixed in

in Kinetic (I added a comment to the merge bug mentioning it). I asked for
some reproduction steps to see if we can pursue an SRU to Jammy.

AIUI ESM is for security only, not for regular SRU-type issues. So Won't

Tuesday bug triage report (2022-05-16)

2022-05-17 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Bugs last updated on 2022-05-16 (Monday)
Date range identified as: "Tuesday triage"
Found 39 bugs

Most of the bugs showed up because of some activity in the merge bugs (this
is a bug in ustriage AFAIK) and also yesterday's triage. Some comments
below:

# https://pad.lv/1973137 - (New)[openldap] -
ldap_do_free_request: Assertion `lr->lr_refcnt == 1' failed

According to the bug reporter, in jammy, openldap is taking longer to
handle requests. Maybe there is a patch upstream to improve this situation.
Since this is not crashing anything I set the importance to Low and
subscribed ubuntu-server.

# https://pad.lv/1831441 - +(Triaged) [samba] - Please

This is a bug in the backlog not touched in 60 days. The wsdd package made
its way into jammy, I asked there what are the next steps to understand
what we want to accomplish keeping the bug open.

# https://pad.lv/1641305 - (Confirmed) [mysql-5.5] - apparmor
configuration for mysqld is not complete

This is a bug in the backlog not touched in 180 days. Since mysql-5.5 is
available only in trusty, I set it to Won't Fix. But the LP package
overview page says it is still supported, likely because of ESM, do we want
to keep tracking those bugs? Or can we mark it as Won't Fix?

This bug came back again with more information from the reporter. The same

was in linux, there is a specific commit that needs to be added. I am not

This will be tricky. The user has been testing with bind9 from Jammy,
and reported the problem against the Focal package.

I agree with Paride's last comment where he says:

OTOH if it does *not* crash, then we can consider bisecting and
finding out which new version fixed the issue, and then dig even
deeper and try finding out which commit or commits make the
difference. That won't be an easy task, especially given that the
reproducibility of this crash is low. I don't think we're going to do
this unless an easier way to trigger the crash is found.

Given that the bug sometimes takes a long time to manifest (1 month), if
we were to bisect this we could be looking at spending a very long time
to find something.

I will leave a comment in the bug explaining what I said above and
trying to provide some alternative approaches to the user.

Thanks,

Tuesday bug triage report

2022-03-08 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Bugs last updated on 2022-03-07 (Monday)
Date range identified as: "Tuesday triage"
Found 34 bugs

We got more bugs than usual for a Tuesday triage, but that happened because
Christian did some bug housekeeping yesterday. Some comments below:

# https://pad.lv/1807177 - (Triaged)[samba] - Package
samba-vfs-modules missing file glusterfs.so

A user was asking about shipping samba with glusterfs in Jammy, Andreas
kindly replied to them stating the current status of the glusterfs MIR.

# https://pad.lv/1954854 - (Incomplete) [bind9] - bind
9.16.1-ubuntu on ubuntu 20.04 randomly exits with segf…

Paride provided a PPA for testing and the bug reporter said it indeed fixed
the issue. The next step would be to bisect and find the needed commits to
backport, not sure how much time we want to spend on that.

# https://pad.lv/1959581 - *(Incomplete)[ocfs2-tools] - OCFS2
intermittently not mountable on a second Node in Ubun…

The bug reporter found that the issue happens only if they use 2 different
types of VMs in Oracle Cloud, since this is a very specific use case I do
not believe we have much to do here.

# https://pad.lv/1963926 - (New)[rdma-core] - focal
,mlx5, steering, Add support for non FDB domain

It seems that a contributor is trying to backport some patches to Focal,
the SRU template is still incomplete but I think we might want to help at
some point. Subscribed ubuntu-server.

Tuesday Bug Triage Report

2022-03-01 Thread Lena Voytek
Bugs last updated on 2022-02-28 (Monday)
Date range identified as: "Tuesday triage"
Found 22 bugs

Most bugs listed either had a fix released or had additional clarifying
questions asked by the team. The only one that needs mentioning is the
following:

LP: #1960821 - New [samba] - Winbind can no more connect to Windows
domain after reload

In order to help the user check if the bug persists in the previous
version, I responded with a PPA for it that Sergio created.

No bugs showed up that have not been touched in 60 or 180 days.

Tuesday bug triage report

2022-02-22 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Bugs last updated on 2022-02-21 (Monday)
Date range identified as: "Tuesday triage"
Found 12 bugs

Some comments below:

# https://pad.lv/1959581 - *(New) [ocfs2-tools] - OCFS2
intermittently not mountable on a second Node in Ubun…

The bug reporter will try to upgrade their system to Ubuntu Impish to see
if the issue is fixed. Let's see the next episode of this novel.

# https://pad.lv/1960821 - (New)[samba] - Winbind
can no more connect to Windows domain after reload

Andreas took a look at this bug and at a first glance it seemed to be
difficult to reproduce but the bug reporter mentioned they did reproduce
the bug with only one domain configured. Andreas, could you take a look if
this makes a reproducer possible?

# https://pad.lv/1961556 - (New)[bind9] - debugging
on by default on nslookup

Upstream found a leftover from the development phase of 9.18 which enables
debugging by default in nslookup. This is a simple patch and I talked to
Athos who will cherry-pick the upstream commit. Subscribed ubuntu-server
and added the server-todo tag.

# https://pad.lv/1961629 - (New)[cluster-glue] - logd
autopkgtest is flaky

Michael Hudson-Doyle from Foundations filed this bug, the logd DEP-8 test
seems flaky indeed. Subscribed ubuntu-server to add it to our backlog for
further investigation.

Tuesday bug triage report

2022-02-15 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Bugs last updated on 2022-02-14 (Monday)
Date range identified as: "Tuesday triage"
Found 18 bugs

As usual, most of the bugs are in good hands already. Some comments below:

# https://pad.lv/1959581 - *(New) [ocfs2-tools] - OCFS2
intermittently not mountable on a second Node in Ubun…

This is a bug which is not easy to debug (some people chimed in and we did
not reach a conclusion yet), I asked for some information to see if we get
any insight.

# https://pad.lv/1960837 - (New)[vsftpd]- New
upstream version supports modern TLS version

The new upstream release contains some improvements regarding SSL/TLS which
should be great to have in our next LTS release. I sent an email to the
Debian maintainer to see if we can update it there and get it synced before
feature freeze. Tagged it as server-todo.

# https://pad.lv/1954306 - (New)[mysql-8.0] - Action
`remove-instance` works but appears to fail

This bug is already in our backlog and has not been touched in 60 days. It
still needs some investigation, I added a comment to make it visible in our
future re-triages.

I have prepped the patch/upload of this already (references in the
bug), all it needs is some engagement from the users that are
affected.
You (or anyone) can try to pick it up and drive it from here if the
recent update is an active user that can provide that engagement.

Tuesday bug triage report (this week and last week)

2022-01-12 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Hi,

I did the bug triage for this Tuesday (2022-01-11) and last week's Tuesday
(2022-01-04). In last week's triage, I did not have much to do, most of the
bugs came up because of Christian's triage on Monday. In this week's
triage, I got some bugs expiring due to no reply from the reporter when
asked for more info, the only thing I did was to correctly set the status
of this apache2 bug to Fix Released (the security team already released the
patches to fix the mentioned CVEs):

https://pad.lv/1956386 - (Triaged)[apache2] - CVE patch

No bugs added to our work queues and nothing to be re-triaged from our
backlog or tagged as server-next.

This cycle we'll have to do this manually, and I can take the todo for
that.

One feature we've already identified as needed as some way to
review/retarget bug reports with milestone='later'. So as a process we
could also mark bugs such as these to that milestone, which would ensure
they get included in that retargeting process.

I've also thought it would be useful to also have a per-package merge
notes functionality, to track advice/tips/todo's for future merges,
especially for information not suited to inclusion in bug reports.

Thanks - triaging that one was fun and while it needs more info now it
might - along the way - made me spot a regression-proposed bug in the

That is the obvious follow on to the mass rebuild we have seen a while back.
And now we also have the confirmation as stated in the bugs "planning
to transition to OpenSSL 3.0 for the 22.04 release".
FYI: the JJ schedule now lists openssl3 and it is rather early in the cycle

@Bryce when creating the merge/tasks for the 22.04 cycle it would be
great to get those linked into the items of the respective update bugs
- can that easily be done?

The bug reporter has a habit of reporting upstream bugs to us, because
he can't access gitlab. (E.g. see LP: #1924609)

I see that the upstream maintainer has already set the bug to invalid.
