[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 376067] Re: [karmic] Please upgrade nvidia-glx-185 to 185.18.14 version
This bug was fixed in the package nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 - 185.18.14-0ubuntu1 --- nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (185.18.14-0ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low * New upstream release (LP: #376067): - Fixed a Xinerama drawable resource management problem that can cause GLXBadDrawable errors in certain cases, such as when Wine applications are run. (LP: #344721) - Fixed XineramaQueryScreens to return 0 screens instead of 1 screen with the geometry of screen 0 when XineramaIsActive returns false. This conforms to the Xinerama manual page and fixes an interaction problem with Compiz when there is more than one X screen. - Moved kernel module loading earlier in the X driver's initialization, to facilitate more graceful fallbacks if the kernel module cannot be loaded. Removed the LoadKernelModule X configuration option. - Added support for new horizontal interlaced and checkerboard passive stereo modes. - Fixed an OpenGL driver crash while running Bibble 5. - Fixed a DisplayPort interaction problem with power management suspend/resume events. - Fixed occasional X driver memory management performance problems when a composite manager is running. (LP: 294925) - Fixed a bug with VT-switching or mode-switching while using Compiz; the bug could lead to a corrupted desktop (e.g., a white screen) or in the worst case an X server crash. - Fixed a bug that could cause GPU errors in some cases while driving Quadro SDI products. - Fixed a several second hang when VT-switching while OpenGL stereo applications were running on pre-G80 Quadro GPUs. - Added support for multiple swap group members on G80 and later Quadro GPUs. - Fixed the behavior of the NV_CTRL_FRAMELOCK_SYNC_DELAY NV-CONTROL attribute on Quadro G-Sync II. - Fixed a problem with Quadro SDI where transitioning from clone mode to OpenGL mode would fail. - Fixed VDPAU to eliminate some cases of corruption when decoding H.264 video containing field-coded reference frames on G84, G86, G92, G94, G96, or GT200 GPUs. Such streams are commonly found in DVB broadcasts. - Slightly improved the performance of the VDPAU noise reduction algorithm. - Enhanced VDPAU to validate whether overlay usage is supported by the current hardware configuration, and to automatically fall back to the blit-based presentation queue if required. - Fixed error checking in VdpVideoMixerRender, to reject calls that specify more layers than the VdpMixer was created with. - Modified VDPAU's VDPAU_DEBUG code to emit a complete backtrace on all platforms, not just on 32-bit Linux. - Improved interaction between VDPAU and PowerMizer; appropriate performance levels should now be chosen for video playback of all standard resolutions on all supported GPUs. - Fixed a bug in VDPAU that sometimes caused display preemption when the VdpDecoderCreate function failed. - Fixed a potential segfault in the VDPAU trace library, triggered by a multi-threaded application creating a new VdpDevice in one thread, at the same time that another thread detected display preemption. - Improved compatibility with recent Linux kernels. - OpenOffice and Skype no longer have flickering buttons on mouseover when compiz is enabled. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 370292] Re: [i855] Jaunty - X freezing on intel 855GM - MTRR issue (UXA/EXA)
Sure thing Bryce, I'll get to testing when I can. I've got a thesis that needs finishing first, so it might not be for another few weeks though. I don't know if I originally commented on this bug, but I've been tracking the 955GM freeze bug too, and I've tried the intel 2.4 drivers which work a charm. UbuntuStudio gives some strange hangs, but I think this is more due to the RT kernel as standard ubuntu jaunty with intel 2.4 drivers is rock solid. I'll update the bug when I test Karmic. Thanks for all your help! :) Cheers Mike On Sat, 2009-06-27 at 04:13 +, Bryce Harrington wrote: suckertoo, no problem, hopefully Mike Rose can test. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 314928] Re: [i915GM] MTRR entry gets removed when restarting xorg - causes corruption on ttys
** Description changed: - When comparing /proc/mtrr of intrepid and current jaunty i noticed there - is an entry missing. + [Impact] + This bug is one of a set of fairly serious issues that afflict -intel users on Jaunty. The problem is that X and the kernel are miscommunicating about MTRR's, and X ends up deleting ones it shouldn't. + + The user-visible effect of this is poor performance in video playback, + such as very choppy flash video. + + [Solution] + The solution for this issue is composed by a kernel patch and a xorg patch, both from the -intel upstream developers. Both of these patches are upstream, and currently included as of the 2.6.30 kernel and -intel 2.7.99.x in Karmic, which does not exhibit the bug. For Jaunty both of these need backported. + + Kernel patch: http://people.ubuntu.com/~apw/lp314928-jaunty/0001 + -UBUNTU-SAUCE-drm-i915-Set-up-an-MTRR-covering-the-GT.patch + + -intel patch: + http://launchpadlibrarian.net/28453154/122_dont_fixup_mtrrs_in_gem_config.patch + + The kernel patch sets the MTRR correctly and the Xorg patch assures that + reloading xorg doesn't wipe it. + + It's not necessary to roll out both patches simultaneously, but both + linux and -intel need their patches in order to make the bug be + resolved. + + [Test Case] + 0. Verify flash video playback is relatively okay + 1. Note contents of /proc/mtrr + 2. Restart xorg + 3. Note contents of /proc/mtrr again, and how it has changed since #1 + 4. See that flash video playback is laggy + + [Regression Potential] + Reasonably low. This change has been reviewed and tested upstream and in karmic for quite a while, and the specific patches being proposed in this SRU have been provided for testers via a PPA and verified to solve the bug. Due to the nature of the patch, it's not possible to prove definitively that it can't cause regression, so it would be advisable to test this thoroughly in jaunty-proposed. + + [Original Report] + When comparing /proc/mtrr of intrepid and current jaunty i noticed there is an entry missing. Thanks Bryce. I have downloaded the alpha version from your link but still not working. The Ubuntu splash is displayed. The weirdest thing is everything is ok. I can use it except the fact that at each start of gnome, it says Ubuntu has to run in low-graphics mode and I have to say yes and xserver restarts. But by the end, it works. It is just annoying to say yes everytime. Even the touchscreen is working, the problem is it is not well calibrated. I tried to run the Calibration utils in Administration menu. But I got an error saying I have to post an email to launchpad with the out of the command lshal (See attached document). It may help you. If you want to make me some other commands to help you to find the problem, do not hesitate. It is just i am just a basic ubuntu user. I may have been to eger to report this bug since it doesn't affect me anymore, maybe because I also insalled the karmic versions of acpid, acpi-support and pm-utils. This should also cover the kms quirks. the only thing that doesn't work is dpms support. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378617] Re: [G45] No DisplayPort support in -intel driver
To make DP work for me, I am using packages from the xorg-updates PPA: http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu along with a direct git checkout from the display-port branch of xf86-video-intel: git://anongit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel The most recent display-port commit (May 7) does not seem to work with anything in x-updates. I reset to commit 8fd7fc619273316143257ae1a56fce86c00051b1 from April 30th and everything seems stable for me. I built the intel driver using './autogen.sh make sudo make install' which puts the modules in /usr/local/lib/xorg/modules/drivers by default. I put the following in xorg.conf to make sure those drivers get loaded: Section Files ModulePath /usr/local/lib/xorg/modules ModulePath /usr/lib/xorg/modules EndSection Be sure to remove that section if you ever switch to a packaged driver! I gave up trying to get KMS (kernel mode setting) and DisplayPort working together. It appears that the necessary code is only just being merged into the mainline kernel: http://lkml.org/lkml/2009/6/24/19 As such, make sure you aren't using KMS if you want to take my approach. It can probably be made to work using some kernel branch but I ran out of time to mess with that. Public bug reported: I have an ASUS M3N78-EM motherboard and the problem is that there is no sound when the nvidia driver is in use. When playing something in totem, the pulseaudio volume meters works, and is possible to see it showing sound but nothing sounds in the speakers. When going to a console (control+alt+1 for example) the sound starts to sound in the speakers and when returning to the x display a little noise sounds and the application playing the sound is automatically close, totem in this case. The little noise sound always just when entering in the x display, with nvidia driver and acpi on. The integrated one appears in gnome-mixer as alc1200 and the dedicated one is a pci X-Fi Xtreme Audio (yes its a X-FI one but it works because is the only X-Fi with a ca0106 chip, is more an audigy than a x-fi). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 391413] Re: [karmic]kernel 2.6.30-10-generic breaks suspend with video-intel 2.7*
Can you test it on a karmic livecd to see if the problem persists Stefan? If the problem persists on the kubuntu karmic livecd then you should create another bug regarding it, perhaps we might be able to figure out why it is happening and I can look into including a fix in edgers for jaunty. Please subscribe me to the bug if you do that so I dont miss it :) But with the setup of KMS/2.6.30 on jaunty there are way too many variables that could be unaccounted for. Under no circumstances would I recommend KMS/UXA on jaunty though, everything should _just work_ as intended if you stick with EXA and 2.7.1 and on my machines that setup is quite a deal faster than UXA plus the bug fixes in later drivers are geared towards UXA usage for the most part. I don't doubt that you are just running into a userland issue considering how major the infrastructure changes are in karmic, and I'm not familiar with KDE power management so I don't know where the settings are to alter which backend the power management daemons there choose. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 241389] Re: [i945] TV out refresh rate is not correct using xrandr and intel 945 chipset
Things have indeed improved in Karmic Alpha 2: in the (default) mirror configuration the S-video output works perfectly. Trying to turn mirroring off (which adds Virtual entry in xorg.conf) breaks things, though - no login window appears at all. X does start though, mouse moves, but other than mouse pointer the screen remains blank. I can even log in blind and see from a console window that the usual processes have started, but X remains black. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373757] Re: [i815] graphics corruption while moving mouse / opening menus (UXA bug)
What to do now? Is this a bug which I need to report? Or do I need to give a command? Hmm, that sounds pretty bad, but it's a different issue than you reported earlier, so yes you should report it as a separate bug. If you know how to use the command prompt, you'll want to copy off dmesg, /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and /var/log/gdm/:0.log. If you don't know how to use it, you can ask for assistance at http://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/ and they can walk you through the procedure. I suspect part of the issue is that i815 is no longer supported upstream, so it does not get tested or bug fixed. I hate to say it, but you may want to stick with 8.10 if that works for you, since we're unlikely to get much attention on this issue. -- [i815] graphics corruption while moving mouse / opening menus (UXA bug) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373757 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 363783] Re: [i945] TV-out don't work with intel 945GM and Compiz in Jaunty
I've tested the Karmic Alpha 2 Live CD and the white problem is now a black problem. After the S-Video cable attached to my laptop, configured the position of the 2 properly detected monitors in gnome-display- properties, updated automatically the xorg.conf with the respective virtual resolution and , finally, logout and login, the two displays (laptop and TV) were black. It's just possible to see the mouse arrow moving and a thin (1 pixel wide) line of the desktop in the left side of the laptop screen, all the rest of the desktop (laptop and TV) was black. If the option is mirror it works, the laptop changes to 1024x768, like the TV, and it seems the 3D effects are working. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378617] Re: [G45] No DisplayPort support in -intel driver
Instead of this complicated procedure you can just use drivers from my ppa ;] They are built from the head of display-port branch. Most probably the reason why you can't use display-port branch above commit from April 30th is that libdrm from x-updates you are using is stripped from necessary header files. They are however present in package from my ppa. Cheers Morg On Sat, Jun 27, 2009 at 5:20 PM, Jedediah Smithjeded...@silencegreys.com wrote: To make DP work for me, I am using packages from the xorg-updates PPA: http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu along with a direct git checkout from the display-port branch of xf86-video-intel: git://anongit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel The most recent display-port commit (May 7) does not seem to work with anything in x-updates. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 241389] Re: [i945] TV out refresh rate is not correct using xrandr and intel 945 chipset
Further observations: both VGA and TV1 can be used alone, disabling the other, but together they work only in mirrored mode. The resolutions offered for the VGA output are rather limited: only 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864 and 1360x768 - the monitor's native 1280x1024 is notably missing. The TV output in contrast gets just about every possible resolution up to 1600x1024. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 376894] Re: Once installing ATI drivers in Radeon HD3200, the screen not longer turns off
Hi Bryce, And Thanks for your reply with new fglrx. But, as I said, I installed the updated ATI drivers from its website and the problem was solved. It seems that it was not a Ubuntu problem. Otherwise, some time later I had an unrecoverable crash waking up the laptop. I've filed a bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /gnome-power-manager/+bug/390827). Finally, I had to format the HD and re-install the OS. This time I've installed Kubuntu 9.04. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 363783] Re: [i945] TV-out don't work with intel 945GM and Compiz in Jaunty
More with D945GCLF2: The default resolution chosen by the driver was 1152x864. Other resolutions work with mirror setup as well, but trying to turn mirror off with 1024x768 exhibited slightly different behaviour: the screens went blank for a moment, then returned (mirrored) with error: Could not apply the selected configuration Did not receive reply. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 363783] Re: [i945] TV-out don't work with intel 945GM and Compiz in Jaunty
More experiments: non-mirrored setup works if combined resolution is small enough that it works with default xorg.conf (without Virtual entry). E.g., 1152x864 on VGA and 800x600 on TVout works fine. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 28898] Re: IBM A21p display is corrupted
I also have IBM ThinkPad A21p running Ubuntu 9.04 and I have the same video driver problem as described and my screen looks exactly accordingly to the picture above. I always used to press Fn+F7 twice to toggle between display modes. The problem is that I don t want to do this everytime and especially that the screen resulution is max @800*600 and I m used to 1600*1200. That sucks, coz U can t read anything that well in such a low resolution... I search for a solution, a driver, that enables me to switch to 1600*1200 and prevents the X-Server to seem broken. The problem seems to be caused by a bad display detection of ubuntu, coz I tried several Linux distros and only ubuntu (and I think Knoppix/Kanotix) seemed to have that problem. I really would like to do some troubleshooting with the help of you as experts in Linux/bug cases and I will offer any possible help with my hardware. -- IBM A21p display is corrupted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/28898 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is a direct subscriber. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381969] Re: window refresh/redraw/repaint problems with QT4 apps.
I've posted a new version of the -nvidia driver to our xorg-edgers PPA, would you mind testing it either on Jaunty... I'll give it a spin, though a recent update (within the last two weeks I'd guess) has vastly improved the situation. As far as I can see from my logs, I'm still using the same version of libqtcore4 (4.5.0-0ubuntu4.1), as when I reported the bug, so that must not have been the culprit. And nvidia-glx-180 is still 180.44-0ubuntu1. Of course I've had kernel and other upgrades. I originally wrote: Specific apps. where I've seen problems: The help viewer for Bookmarkbridge. The entry edit dialog in Keepassx. Last time I tested the help viewer for Bookmarkbridge, it appeared to work normally. Originally the repaint problem was so bad that it was unusable. ...actually, retesting it, it still does exhibit symptoms in the form of delayed repaints, but much better than it was. KeepassX is also improved. Last I tested it I still observed some repaint problems with the dialog buttons. Today, I can't observer any problems. Now with the symptoms baselined, I'll try the updated nvidia driver and retest. -- window refresh/redraw/repaint problems with QT4 apps. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381969 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
