[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 395024] [NEW] Unsupported Device 0x10de07e3 (GeForce 7050/nForce 610i)

2009-07-03 Thread A. Walton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv

After update on Karmic and reboot, binary blob driver failed to load,
server failed to load NV and vesa drivers. Had to manually reconfigure
the X server to use Vesa in order to report this bug. Used apport to
automatically collect the information, but anything else you need I'll
report.

For now, back to an older kernel for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 372679] Re: No keyboard or Mouse on Login Screen

2009-07-03 Thread jazzkdh
please re-open, I have this same issue with a fresh install of Ubuntu
Studio 9.04 (amd64). I have tested with both usb and ps2 QWERTY and
mouse. As Mind0ne states, the mouse and keyboard cease to function at
the login splash - however all usb ports are still active, as a few of
my devices stay lit up when there is no driver present. I did some
digging and saw this type of issue in 8.10 an various forum threads like
this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1023153 however there
seems to be no working solution.

I am willing to attach whatever files are needed to diagnose, if someone
could give me the steps to do so.

thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 377353] Re: backlight not appearing in sysfs nor laptop_panel in lshal for sony vaio fz

2009-07-03 Thread Schmirrwurst
Upstream, the kernel team is saying that it is a platform driver issue
or bios... sony is not supporting linux, so I think the only way to have
it fix before 2050 is to bring the nvidia driver to manage backlight
(also in /sys and /proc) so adding nvidia pkg to the report...

** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 311076] Re: hang on BOGUS LENGTH in write keyboard desc

2009-07-03 Thread atterdag
I only experience this issue when running Vmware Workstation 6.5.2,
Lotus Notes 8.5, and Eclispse, but since this are the three programs I
use the most (apart from firefox), then these resets occurs maybe 3-5
times a day.

So please, please upload the fix!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 338669] Re: (Needs UXA) painting artifacts after qt4.5 upgrade on intel chipset

2009-07-03 Thread Vu Ngoc San
wow, I'm going to try that.
I have been struggling with this bug for months. And in a working environment
where I usually try to convince my colleages that linux is better, I have to
say it was so embarassing that these artifacts appear all the time that
I would only hide my kubuntu... Not even to mention the fact that I often need
to make video presentations... what a shame.
I have tried all combinations of intel driver options and versions, none would
work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378572] Re: evtouch calibrate axis inversion feature needed

2009-07-03 Thread Thor H. Johansen
Regarding 'swapy' being treated as a bool by HAL, I quote the
x11-input.fdi file from freedesktop.org:

You MUST specify all options as strings, otherwise the server will
ignore them.

Obviously, if HAL is treating our string as a bool, this option will
never work. Right?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378572] Re: evtouch calibrate axis inversion feature needed

2009-07-03 Thread Thor H. Johansen
I am having problems as well. I have configured my eGalax touchscreen in
/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/50-eGalax.fdi as follows:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8? !-- -*- SGML -*- --
deviceinfo version=0.2
  device
match key=info.product contains=eGalax
  match key=info.capabilities contains=input
merge key=input.x11_driver type=stringevtouch/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.minx type=string130/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.miny type=string250/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.maxx type=string1850/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.maxy type=string1840/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.taptimer type=string30/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.longtouchtimer type=string500/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.longtouched_action
type=stringdown/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.longtouched_button
type=string3/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.oneandhalftap_button
type=string0/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.movelimit type=string18/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.touched_drag type=string1/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.maybetapped_action
type=stringclick/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.maybetapped_button
type=string1/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.swapy type=stringOn/merge
/match
/match
  /device
/deviceinfo

All of this seems to work, EXCEPT for one option:
merge key=input.x11_options.swapy type=stringOn/merge

I have tried everything. I have tried these variants:
merge key=input.x11_options.swapy type=string1/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.swapy type=booltrue/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.SwapY type=stringOn/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.inverty type=booltrue/merge

None of them do anything to swap my Y axis. Some of them seem to affect
the output of lshal and I get a 'swapy (bool)' equalling 'true', but
this doesn't seem to take effect anywhere.

Also, adding a 'ReportingMode' value of 'Raw' doesn't show up in lshal,
not that it seems to matter if I have that in there or not.

Finally, manually swapping the values of 'miny' and 'maxy' has no effect
whatsoever. I can tell that all my other settings are working, because
the scale of my cursor movement is now correct.

I am able to configure my touchscreen in xorg.conf, but this is
deprecated, and I need to have hotplug working.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 374776] Re: Mouse wheel broken in Jaunty (scrolls up/down)

2009-07-03 Thread Gergely Papp
** Summary changed:

- Mouse wheel broken in Intrepid (scrolls up/down)
+ Mouse wheel broken in Jaunty (scrolls up/down)

** Description changed:

The mouse produces jerky movement when using the scroll wheel of the
external USB mouse in all programs (nautilus, oo3, firefox, etc.). In
detail when I try to move the wheel up, it moves up and down sometimes.

Scroll using the touchpad works fine. The same thing happens under
  metacity and compiz.

Testing the mouse with xev shows, that multiple events are produced on
- mouse wheel movement, including
+ mouse wheel movement, including up and down button presses.

- This is new, and started when I upgraded from hardy to intrepid, the
+ Sample from xev output, when the wheel is moved 1 tick up. Note that both
button 4 and 5 presses are present!

This sounds to me as the GConf defaults not being installed properly.
Maybe we have already a ticket about it? I would think that the 0.84
packages from debian has this fixed.

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed

 Bug description:
Running Xephyr from xserver-xephyr 2:1.5.99.902-0ubuntu1 fails with an error
 like:

 [config/dbus] couldn't take over org.x.config:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied (Connection :1.260 is not allowed
to own the service org.x.config.display2 due to security policies in the
 configuration file)

I suspect this is due to the recent D-Bus policy change, e.g. bug 318752.

It can be reproduced by running Xephyr :2 in jaunty.

2009-07-03 Thread Grasyop
I'd like to try it too, because this bug upsets me. But I read about
KDE 4.3 RC 1:

Note that these packages have a bug which causes X to die during the
upgrade. The upgrade will continue and you can reboot when it is done.

So, how do you know when the upgrade is done? What time would you wait
before rebooting?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 348332] Re: [RV250] Kubuntu: X Freezes with Radeon driver EXA/XAA Composite

2009-07-03 Thread maestro_alubia
I got a freeze again, so option 4) ist definitely not true.

Furthermore Composite is still disabled so this is not a workaround for
the problem.

The hang occured when many applications were open and this time I did
not have any Kopete Chat Windows opened (although kopete itself was
running).

Just before X freezes the mouse-cursor gets damaged and a few seconds
later everything gets real slow.

I than logged via ssh into the defect machine and attached gdb to the
process. I append the output of bt f, hope thats helpful.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378958] Re: xorg 100% cpu when scrolling in rdesktop

2009-07-03 Thread Magnus Lidbom
I'm encountering this issue on a travelmate tm8204wlmi with an ati x1600
card.

It may well be related to bug 363238 somehow, since switching to XAA as
recommended in the comments there does fix the problem for me. However,
EXA gives me vastly superior performance compared to XAA in every single
application I've tried except for rdesktop. With XAA and compiz
displaying or resizing a window takes 2-3 seconds on my computer.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 395153] [NEW] always additional left-click-event after left- or right-click

2009-07-03 Thread Jan-Philip Gehrcke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse

Hello!

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 guest OS + Vmware Tools on WinXP host. xserver-
xorg-input-vmmouse helps me getting a seamless mouse between guest and
host, but there is an annoying issue:

Whenever I press the left or the right mouse button, another left-
click-event is sent instantly after release of the button.

In the terminal this results in:
normal leftclick - marks a whole line
normal rightclick - opens context menu and instantly executed first entry
(open terminal)
press left button, wait - mark some characters, stay over them... release -
marked characters are in clipboard
press right button, wait - context menu opens, move around and stay over an
arbitrary entry... release - this entry is executed

In general, it's clear that it's not easy to work with this strange
behaviour :-)

Maybe it's even an additional left-click-event after each click-
event, e.g. after clicking the middle mouse button, too. But I don't
know how to test this.

The problem spontaneously appears as single click taken as double click, and
I found another person who experienced it:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse/+bug/248521/comments/54
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse/+bug/248521/comments/58

But, in contrast to him, I had no success by modifying my xorg.conf. I
even deleted all Input Devices but it did not help. To get the desired
mouse behaviour back, I had to remove xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse. But
this is not what I want :-)

I almost have no idea how do debug such input device related stuff.
Please request logs/infos you need! I will deliver them asap.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 315336] Re: [i915] Jaunty - Intel video is not hot-pluggable

2009-07-03 Thread David Bensimon
Hi Bryce,

I tested this on Karmic and I have good and bad news.

The good news is that X no longer needs to be started with the VGA cable
plugged in for the monitor to be detected.

The bad news is that when something gets fixed, something else breaks.
There are a few regressions which do not make gnome-display-properties
usable.

Regressions:
1 - Series of popups due to #2
2 - Not able to mirror screen any longer
3 - Not able to ALT-grab window so that I can click OK (gconftool-2 --set
/apps/compiz/plugins/move/allscreens/options/constrain_y --type bool 0 should
be a default setting as I think it was in Jaunty.
4 - Identify monitor is ALWAYS on (top left corner) when
gnome-display-properties is open. See presentation picture for an example of
why this is bad. (recommend we make this a tick box or an Identify Button -
mac-like)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 359831] Re: [i945gm] all video players crash with BadAlloc error (no Compiz)

2009-07-03 Thread João Neves
Just noting that robertnull's workaround did not work here.

This is serious. I have a laptop, when connecting to an external
projector, the screen properties screen increases the Virtual desktop to
handle both the laptop and external screen. Results: no acceleration, no
video, no simple way to go back to a functional system for a normal
user.

Is anyone working on a fix to this?

Thanks you all,
João Miguel Neves

2009-07-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 394900] Re: Kernel 2.6.31.1 broke my X windows

2009-07-03 Thread Philip Muskovac

nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (185.18.14-0ubuntu2) karmic; urgency=low

  * Add in drm_agp_memory-2.6.31.patch to enable 2.6.31 support
until NVIDIA has it in their next driver release. (LP: #394262)
- Thanks everyone in that bug for finding and testing this patch.
- Note: this patch appears to be a bit of a hack (removing i2c support)
so take it with a grain of salt if there are still problems.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 349412] [NEW] GMA950 + external lcd does not work on high resolution

2009-07-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have Acer Aspire 5710Z with Intel GMA950 graphic card and VGA out.
Last week I bought a new lcd monitor Samsung SyncMaster 2343nw with VGA
input and with resolution of 2048x1152. My operating system is Ubuntu
8.10

When I plugged it in, I can only get 1440x900 out of that external lcd with
1200x800 on internal monitor. I changed Virtual resolution in xorg.conf to
2048x2048(maximum for GMA) and set my external monitor to be on top. I can get
then 2 monitors with extended desktop and Compiz fully working, but anything
above 1440x900 resolution on external lcd cause some strange artefacts on it. I
can't see anything there on that desktop.

I configure only the virtual resolution in xorg.conf and resolution in
gnome with screen resolution applet.

I was quite interested, how well would it work on Windows. XP no
problem, now using Vista with 2048x1152, so it is possible, it's not
that my card is not possible to drive it or the DAC is weak.

Any solution? Is it bad configuration or bug in driver?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 395316] [NEW] [karmic] Modesetting Xorg does not respect 'nomodeset' option

2009-07-03 Thread Ken Lewis
Public bug reported:

Having upgraded to the 2.6.31-1 kernel and the modesetting Xorg, I need
to use 'nomodeset' because of a glitch in the kernel detection of my
laptop's LVDS-connected screen. But X starts and shows only a blank
screen. I can change to terminals via ctrl-alt-F1.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 394422] Re: KMS karmic black screen i830 video

2009-07-03 Thread Otto Schumacher
I see the same behavior on my Dell Latitude E6400 (with Intel graphics).

When booting kernel 2.6.31-1 normally, the screen stays black. The
system however comes up, as I am able to log in remotely via ssh. When
booting with the nomodeset parameter (KMS disabled) everything works
fine.

Regards,
Otto

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 292861] Re: touchpad sensitivity goes down (probably to lowest) on resume

2009-07-03 Thread Soo-Hyun Yoo
Okay, I used synclient to check on the touchpad settings. While the
touchpad was in its insensitive state, FingerHigh had a value of 80.
This was the value in /etc/hal/fdi/policy/touchpad.fdi, though I don't
remember ever changing it. Changing this to a value of around 15 made
the touchpad sensitive again.

Unfortunately, changing the value in touchpad.fdi and restarting X had
no effect; the FingerHigh reverted to 80, though touchpad.fdi remained
unaltered.

For now, I've added synclient FingerHigh=15 to my KDE autostart
script.
