[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383345] Re: [i945GM] dual screen not working with virtual resolution enabled: just a blank screen with a mouse pointer

2009-07-16 Thread Robert Hooker
There is some confusion in here by a few of the other posters (not the
original reporter that knows about the limitation). The 2048x2048 3D
texture limitation is a _hardware_ limitation, it has never worked under
compiz with a virtual above 2048x2048 on intel chip older than 965. It
used to be possible to use higher virtual sizes if you removed accel
support but that has been broken under KMS since it came out. Try
booting with i915.modeset=0 added to grub until the patch supporting it
under KMS lands Lucien, it should still be possible to use 2048
virtual sizes (without accel) under UMS with the git20090702 driver
thats currently in karmic.

2009-07-16 Thread brainsonfire
its a kernel issue, its been fixed in 2.6.30.1. i just compiled me a
kernel for the first time, piece of cake:

download the 2.6.30.1 kernel from kernel.org then follow this guide from
step 3 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/GitKernelBuild

(note to nvidia ppl: if dpkg complains about nvidia-common during
postinstall, ignore it. after reboot just reinstall the driver)

may the ubuntu be with you

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 398183] Re: intel driver seems to have lost tv output quirk

2009-07-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
It is the case that with KMS the quirks have all been reimplemented.
They're moved out of the X driver into the kernel itself. In the
process, the quirks are redesigned to work a bit differently, and so
some changes in behavior are to be expected. For example, the code is
now better at detecting if loads are actually present. So in general as
long as the changes aren't causing new kinds of problems, they don't
need to be worried about. I'll close out your bug, but feel free to
reopen it if you suspect the change has caused an issue for you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 393623] Re: Can't play multimedia video (i.e., *.ogg, *.flv, *.wmv) when external monitor is connected

2009-07-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Okay, I think what's going on is you're seeing an unrelated bug - on 945
extended resolutions summing to over 2048 wide or high could cause
crashes. That issue is now fixed (the limit is raised to 4096). In any
case, the original issue with video playback sounds like it's gone, so
we can close this bug. But do feel welcome to reopen it in case you
believe the original issue still needs investigation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 398026] Re: [GM45] Default 60Hz display mode drives LVDS incorrectly

2009-07-16 Thread yakuizhao
Hi, Geir
What you said is right. I hope that it is tested on the 2.6.31.2 instead of
2.6.31.3.
The remaining issue is why we can add the mode like 1440x900*60. It is very
interesting.
I check the code and find that it is not parsed from EDID. And it is not
defined in the default mode table. I don't know where to add it.
Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 400128] [NEW] [karmic] tty console is not using full width and height of 1400x1050 screen

2009-07-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hardware: Samsung X20 Laptop

The text in the tty consoles is small an crisp, as if the full 1400x1050
resolution (or something similar) were correctly set, but only the top and left
three quarters of the physical screen height and width are actually used, the
rest remains black.
(Measuring with a ruler, it actually seems like about 73% of the physical width
and height.)

No text is lost or invisible, it's just as if the system took the top-left
rectangle of 1024x768 physical pixels of the actual 1400x1050 screen and then
pretended that this 1024x768 area was in fact the whole screen on which to draw
the tty console contents.
(I can not tell for certain it's a 1024x768 rectangle but that would correspond
to the about 73% I measured.)

The tty consoles have 48 lines of 128 columns.

Note: The X server correctly uses the whole screen at the full 1400x1050
resolution, no problem there.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 400128] Re: [karmic] tty console is not using full width and height of 1400x1050 screen

2009-07-16 Thread Philip Muskovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a
bug in xserver-xorg-video-intel.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via
the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you
are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Well, next I'd like to forward this issue upstream, but first it must be
retested on latest development version of Karmic to make sure the issue
still happens there with the latest code. ISO images are available at
http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/. If you can reproduce it in
the LiveCD environment, you shouldn't need to modify your installed
system. Also please attach a fresh Xorg.0.log and dmesg from this
testing.

2009-07-16 Thread Hew McLachlan
The latest nvidia drivers available for GeForce FX is 173. If you are
experiencing the black window issue with Jaunty or Karmic, you should
reopen this bug report. If you are experiencing a different issue, you
should report that as a new bug. Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 386706] Re: External USB Mouse not working properly with Jaunty Jackalope

2009-07-16 Thread trojkat
I have exactly the same problem.
After upgrading to ubuntu 9.04 my usb mouse stopped working with laptop.
Mouse: A4Tech OPTO 518
Laptop: Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pro v3515 / Toshiba Satellite A300
Symptom:
after plugin the mouse I can do only one button click and then the pointer
moves as expected, but buttons doesn't work. To be more precise, it seems that
the focus is frozen on a clicked element and clicking on other elements doesn't
work.
Temporary solution:
Restarting gnome with ctrl+alt+BackSpace solves the problem. Another solution
is to right click on the element with frozen focus and then you could perform
(again one) click on different element.
Data asked in the poster above is included in attachments. The bug is really
annoying

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 244387] Re: black screen applications

2009-07-16 Thread Endolith
The problem does not occur if Compiz is disabled (which is why I
normally run with Compiz disabled). It's a matter of the video card
running out of texture memory, if I understand correctly. I don't know
if there's any connection to gnome-screensaver. I can try disabling
that.

2009-07-16 Thread Jonathan Thomas
Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the
developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack
trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an
attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 350503] Re: System (64 bit ) hangs in ubuntu 9.04 Beta

2009-07-16 Thread Abdul Basit
Hi Bryce,

I am not sure how ubuntu team is fixing the problems reported, i mean
what is the process?
A bug was reported but I was being asked multiple times to test with
newer versions without actually understanding what would have caused
the bug at the first place? IMHO, simply going to a newer version of
some driver would not mean the problem is auto-magically fixed.

I have only one desktop machine, and when fedora 11 comes i installed
that and put the latest nvidia driver in FC repository, the problem
still persists so I decided to go back using noveua nvdiia
implementation which is running perfectly so far.

The problem is in newer versions nvidia driver ( 173.x ) itself,
someone has to examine the dumps and find the problem and fix and then
ask to test the new version.

Thanks,
- Basit

 Folks,

I am using 9.04 Beta 64-bit, I am experiencing a series problem where I am
using the machine and the machine just hangs, I am not able to move mouse,
can not type anything and video freezes, this normally happens within 30
minutes when I am using the system.

I have used previous ubuntu release 8.10 64-bit for hours without any
problems on the same machine with same hardware configuration.

These are my machine specifications :-

 .. 4 GB RAM
.. ECS GF8200A mother board with AMD PHENOM 9550 Quad core and external PCI
 nvidia 7200 (in use)

The ubuntu kernel where this problem occur is 2.6.28, I myself have compiled
2.6.29 on 9.04 beta and the problem still happens, have nvidia 180.37 driver
 installed.

If any further information is required or I could help collect more
 information, please let me know.

 Thx,
 Basit

2009-07-16 Thread Dan Simoes
Using nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 - 185.18.14 under 9.04, the bug is still
present.
The only way to get a usable desktop is to turn off all effects in
Preferences/Appearance/Visual Effects (guessing this is compiz).

I will try upgrading to the latest development version of Ubuntu.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378958] Re: xorg 100% cpu when scrolling in rdesktop

2009-07-16 Thread Magnus Lidbom
FYI: This problem is now solved for me on Gentoo.
I was seeing the problem until just recently. I believe the fix came with an
update of libdrm from version 2.4.11 to 2.4.12
Perhaps this information is useful for ubuntu developers to be able to backport
the fix.

2009-07-16 Thread Hanns Fuerniss
Thanks,
but how do I know what package it might be? (how do you that it's xserver-
org?)
I suspected the hal package because the old dapper configuration with
xorg.conf worked fine, then the problem appeared with the new hal all-in-one-
hide-all thing (I really don't know how to configure hal! can I at all?).

sorry, I don't want to criticize, only wonder how?
thanks,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 286932] Re: openoffice and skype menus and buttons disappear and reappear hovering over with mouse

2009-07-16 Thread Axos
Thanks for confirming, Rüdiger Kupper. I guess I may need to file a new
bug report for this. I wasn't sure since the new driver isn't part of an
official release yet.

Personally, I don't mind None mode (Compiz disabled) but I worry that
first-timers will be very turned off if they try Ubuntu (or any other
Linux distro using this NVIDIA driver) and see this kind of scrolling.
Very bad first (and final) impression.

I updated my nvidia driver(s) as noted above and it seemed to work for a while
... then I discovered that if I left firefox running, it would lock up(!) - but
only after the power management would idle the display - worked OK if
screensaver running.
disabled display idle - no lockup
closed out of firefox - no lockup with idle display
Installed SeaMonkey yesterday - no lock ups since ... reenabled display idle
just a followup FYI

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 346645] Re: [jaunty] elantech touchpad does not scroll

2009-07-16 Thread Simon Gerhards
I saw this issue on a Zepto Znote 3215W on Jaunty and Karmic. I think
this is due to a new driver for the Elantech touchpads. In older
releases (without the driver) they operated in imps compatibility mode -
the workaround forces them into this mode.

Scrolling at the side of the pad stopped working but two-finger-
scrolling works now by default. Could you test whether that is the case
in your configurations, too? (Don't forget to remove the workaround
before testing.)

following your request I downloaded again the ISO image as suggested.
Unfortunately, the live CD does the same thing. After copying the files to the

is herd and nothing also.
I am attaching the requested Xorg.0.log as requested and later the dmesg of my

Aha - Jason since just restarting compiz gets things going for you, I
think you have a different bug.

Since others on this bug report say the issue is gone with the newer
kernel I'm closing it.

Freezes are often difficult to tell apart. I would recommend anyone
else seeing freezes to file a new bug, rather than assume they have a
dupe of an existing one.
