Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411164] Re: Xorg won't start on PC with ATI Technologies Inc 3D Rage IIC AGP
I have just installed Ubuntu 7.10 on this system. On starting the installer, I specified the screen resolution as 1024x768x24. The installation went well, though this system is slow by today's standards. Now I am doing an online upgrade to 8.04 LTS. I'm not sure what driver was selected. In the morning I will see whether this works properly, but I expect this will succeed. The important thing here is that the 7.10 install creates an xorg.conf file, which is recognized by the later systems, eliminating boot-time probing for display hardware, which fails with a number of display card/monitor combinations. (I have filed several bug regarding various displays on a few different machines, with similar problems). Earlier today I helped a friend install 7.10 with an upgrade to 8.04 LTS on a much more powerful system which also would not boot 8.04 or 9.04 live/install CDs. The install and upgrade were successful except for a problem updating network-assistant at the end of the upgrade (for which he filed bug #412229). In my opinion, allowing manual preselection of screen resolution in the boot line, which was available in releases like 6.06 and 7.10, should be restored in all future releases. It seems to have saved the day on this system. I'll update this report again when the upgrade finishes (with our without glitches). My computer crashed during the upgrade to Karmic Koala, so i decided to leave the whole matter and make a fresh install of Jaunty. I added the following PPA http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu to get hold of the latest 1:6.12.2 xserver-xorg-video-ati driver. The good thing is now: all my described problems in this bug report disappeared mysteriously!! I can use 3D on compiz, AND smoothly watch flash video's I could not watch beforehand. I love it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 360770] Re: evtouch: Can't calibrate LG Flatron L1510SF
Hi Ben, I managed to get my LG Flatron working and I posted the solution at: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+question/48375 Beware mine is 15, if you are using a 17 all the coordinates will be different... the calibration tool does not work you have to try and error until you find the right parameters. I recall that if you give too big a parameter it gives you weird results closer to the centre, so somewhere there is an algorithm that computes a valid result despite it is nothing to do with the point you touched... this could be very confusing because you might be tempted to change some of the correct parameters again... So, my recommendation is that you try to find the values for the edges of your touch-screen first, no matter they are reversed, upside-down or whatever, once you understand the size and limits of it, you can start playing with the other parameters... Good luck! You have been subscribed to a public bug: I already had updated everything since 2 days ago or so.. so should have been running 9.04.06 Did a sudo apt-get update (it fetched about 180) sudo apt-get dist-upgrade asked to restart. Computer restarted, saw the new Ubuntu loading screen (which is aesthetically pleasing) then after the computer freezes between the ubuntu loading and when then splash screen should show up. Couldn't take a screen shot--but this is the best picture i could come up with. http://s5.tinypic.com/14lh4s0.jpg (of course the background is black, the 5 small things at the top look like very minature ubuntu loading screens-blurred of course) Attempted to go back to previous kernels--result was unsuccessful. All kernels froze at the time the splash screen should have appeared. Attempted to recover--result was that was able to log in as root, however, not sure exactly how to connect to an access point and download any new updates that may fix this problem. Attempted to boot from 8.04 live cd--result was successful (obviously). Copied a couple files from the filesys to windows...but not sure which files i should really check out. I did see some error about synaptics... wrote it down: Synaptics was reset on resume. See synaptics-resume-reset also: MMC0: Unknown controller version(2) I'm completely stuck. I was able to access the root terminal account by selecting the recovery kernel. Was able to: iwconfig wan0 essid router and do a apt-get update and it found about 80 more packages. However upgrading did not help. I can boot from a live 8.04 cd and copy over some files to vista and upload them if it helps. Just let me know which logs need to be posted. Attached is what I already thought might be useful. *also, i thought perhaps it was a gdm problem, so I apt-get install kde and that resulted in the same thing. ** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: 9.04 boot fglrx jaunty xorg -- 9.04 Failure to boot after dist-upgrade https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/345264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi all, I'm using a ATI Radeon Mobility 3650HD together with the fglrx driver and a Intel mainboard chipset. But this is sometimes unusable for me. If I work with an application I've got black bars on the screen. Or sometimes the system freeze after 3-4 hours. And the swichting between different windows will take a lot of time (with and without compiz) If I use Compiz, my system freeze latest after 1 hour. My system is lot of more slowler as without Compiz. Sometimes it's very funny because the Xserver will try to build 2 screens on one display. I must make a hardcore reset every time (Strg+Alt+F2 and sudo reboot not possible for me). I've token the new 2.8.602 from the ppa but there is no changes for me. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 412492] [NEW] X flickers wildly whenever anything on-screen updates
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg After dist-upgrading today on , X flickers and is unusable any time any object on the screen is painted. Opening the main menu from the panel causes the entire screen to flicker for around a second. Switching desktops or opening/closing/moving a window causes similar behavior. The flickering appears to be parts of the screen being briefly updated in the wrong place; it's much like a jerky shift of halves or quarters of the screen to the wrong position very briefly. Deactivating compiz does not seem to change this behavior. The graphics controller is: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) I've attached a video of an example of the effect captured from my phone. (I apologize for the poor quality of the video, but it gives a sample of the effect.) In the video I have opened the main menu and then switched to another virtual desktop. However the same effect happens during nearly any screen update -- every character I type right now in this bug report is causing a brief nauseating flash. I'm going to be away, but I want to make sure the information is here on LP on this bug: From the author of gnome-power-manager, Richard Hughes: There's no bug in gnome-power-manager, and I suspect gnome-session somehow triggers this bug. There's a full writeup in http://blogs.gnome.org/hughsie/2009/07/30/accidental-blanking-and-gnome- power-manager/ but I've got next-to-no help in debugging gnome-session or the XSync alarms stuff. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 410829] [NEW] Pressing Suspend key turns off display instead of suspending
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager Laptop: Dell Latitude D630. When pressing the suspend key (Fn-F1), only the display gets turned off, instead of suspending the laptop. In the settings, I have the following: When the suspend button is pressed: Suspend. The suspend key is recognized correctly. Here the xev output: KeyPress event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x141, root 0xff, subw 0x0, time 21205448, (100,89), root:(1302,142), state 0x0, keycode 213 (keysym 0x1008ffa7, XF86Suspend), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x141, root 0xff, subw 0x0, time 21205448, (100,89), root:(1302,142), state 0x0, keycode 213 (keysym 0x1008ffa7, XF86Suspend), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False Then I looked in gconf, XF86Suspend is only found in this key: /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings/sleep so this should be correct. Output of $ gnome-power-manager --verbose | tee gpm.debug.log.txt attached. You can see keycode 213 (XF86Suspend) being grabbed during initialisation (first few rows). I pressed the button at time 18:24:00, nothing was generated in the log as you can see. Compared to that, I pressed the power button at 18:25:00, selected suspend from the menu, and then resumed at 18:25:20. So looks to me that the suspend key is intercepted before GPM gets it (?). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 341363] Re: [i945GME] drm:i915_getparam *ERROR* Unknown parameter 6
My Asus Eee pc 901 with the Intel 945Gme chipset has its Xserver crash several times per day. This behaviour has never disappeared and my original report was marked as a duplicate of a bug that has been fixed now. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/337116 Today X has crashed 3 times, this is syslog around the latest event. No Compiz, Xubuntu 9.04 (had vanilla Ubuntu earlier, same thing, but with Gnome the crashes were less frequent). I installed and updated to latest packages yesterday, after trying Karmic daily build (hard locks all the time with that, no go yet). Presently, this crash behaviour makes this computer preetty unreliable in use. I have the exact same install setup on my Eee pc 701, and that does not crash or lock up. 12 21:14:16 gekko-laama kernel: [13350.631788] ===rt_ioctl_giwscan. 4(4) BSS returned, data-length = 435 Aug 12 21:15:33 gekko-laama kernel: [13428.040787] [drm:i915_get_vblank_counter] *ERROR* trying to get vblank count for disabled pipe 0 Aug 12 21:15:33 gekko-laama gdm[23569]: WARNING: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Vakava X-virhe – :0 käynnistetään uudelleen Aug 12 21:15:33 gekko-laama NetworkManager: info (ra0): device state change: 8 - 3 Aug 12 21:15:33 gekko-laama NetworkManager: info (ra0): deactivating device (reason: 38). These are definitely a cause for a serious crash, these have happened always with Jaunty. The log entries always looked the same right before X goes. With vanilla Ubuntu, and not Xfce, this tends to cause a hard lock, ie. even Alt-SysRq-K does not work, but you need to hold the power button for 5 secs to hard shut down. -- [i945GME] drm:i915_getparam *ERROR* Unknown parameter 6 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/341363 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411164] Re: Xorg won't start on PC with ATI Technologies Inc 3D Rage IIC AGP
In my case, the upgrade to 8.04 after the installation of 7.10 went well. The display driver selected in xorg.conf is 'vesa'. On Wed, Aug 12, 2009 at 12:28 AM, Peter Belewabcru...@gmail.com wrote: I have just installed Ubuntu 7.10 on this system. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365300] Re: Randomly I get double clicks when I do a single click.
I have something new to report: With the latest updates on Karmic Koala, since Alpha 3, to me this issue improved a lot. $ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-input-evdev xserver-xorg-input-evdev: Installed: 1:2.2.2-1ubuntu2 Candidate: 1:2.2.2-1ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1:2.2.2-1ubuntu2 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status But no means It's over. I still get, from time to time, some double clicks. But is definitively less often. I do, always get a left double-click, if I try to: click the mouse left button with my finger positioned a little bit closer to the middle of the mouse. (my mouse button is long) when I do a left click on gnome-terminal. i.e., trying to copy the apt- cache policy I've just posted above, sometimes it happens to open another gnome-terminal window. I hope the devs have a look on this issue, before Karmic goes gold. @droll I suggest to you to try Karmic Alpha 4. It should be out tomorrow, download the LIVE CD and give it shot. -- Randomly I get double clicks when I do a single click. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365300 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-mouse in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 341363] Re: [i945GME] drm:i915_getparam *ERROR* Unknown parameter 6
Again, Error unknown parameter 6 is merely a warning message which pops up in various circumstances, and is not the *cause* of a crash or other problem. Suppression of the confusing warning error message is up to the kernel team. If you are experiencing an X crash, then again I would ask that you report it as a *separate* bug report so that it is simpler to troubleshoot. For information on creating good bug reports about X problems please see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting, and in particular for crashes see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for directions on how to get proper debug output so the issue can be solved. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid -- [i945GME] drm:i915_getparam *ERROR* Unknown parameter 6 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/341363 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 412245] Re: No X Video on Built-in Monitor of Dell Inspiron 1100
When you ssh'd in and the connection froze, was the Karmic PC connected via wireless or cable? In ubuntu the wireless connection is managed through the user's xorg-session, and if xorg dies, it may take the connection with it. If it was connected via a cable it is a sign that something goes wrong on a deeper level than xorg, e.g. in an xorg- related kernel module. If you manage to write a command over ssh before it freezes `dmesg dmesg.txt` could be a good choice. When it hangs, is there a mouse pointer still? If so, does it move at all when you move the mouse? Does the CapsLock button turn the corresponding keyboard LED on and off? -- No X Video on Built-in Monitor of Dell Inspiron 1100 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/412245 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
