[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 188690] Re: does not create a PO template on build

2009-10-02 Thread David Planella
Hi Loïc,

I just filed it here because I saw all the other bug tasks and thought
it was the preferred way. I'd be more than happy to use the ubuntu-
translation project and a tag (e.g. 'needs-pot-building') instead.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 440396] [NEW] Xorg cpu utilization high on every other startup

2009-10-02 Thread Lars Volker
Public bug reported:

Every now and then, the system starts and Xorg occupies 100% of one of
the two cores. This seems to happen randomly since the last upgrade.
When i tried to strace the xorg process last time, the system instantly
locked up.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 437076] [NEW] installer reboots X over and over again

2009-10-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

What is expected to happen: When installing the Ubuntu Karmic Koala
Alpha 6, and once the installer has finished, clicking reboot should
reboot the machine and start it again to boot into the fresh Ubuntu
installation.

What happened instead: The reboot button will kill and start X, over
and over again, doing a loop.

This happens in Ubuntu Karmic Koala Alpha 6 and Netbook Remix.

While switching from X to TTY, it shows random messages that will differ
in the desktop and netbook edition, but it's the same thing.

I'm using VirtualBox OSE, and in the installation process i configured
Ubuntu to log in automatically, using the installer (Install Ubuntu
option, in the CD menu)

I've been able to reproduce this problem 3 out of 3 times, two of them
using the desktop CD and the last one using the netbook remix CD.

2009-10-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When logging in this tan (Ubuntu artwork?) patterned image fades in.
Very nice, except it is not the user's specified background image, which
is what should be fading in instead. Worse, after about 6 seconds there
is a jarring snap as the user's set background image slams into place.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 436530] [NEW] [Karmic] After boot, stuck at blank screen; need to press Alt+F7 to get X to begin starting

2009-10-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When booting Karmic, it grinds away for a bit, then suddenly stops with
a completely blank screen. Pressing any key shows (what I would guess to
be vt01) a console. I need to manually press Alt+F7, at which point the
X server suddenly starts doing it's thing, I get the Ubuntu Karmic
spotlight image for a while, and eventually a GDM login screen.

Ideally the system would boot straight to GDM.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 434284] [NEW] live cd does not properly show desktop or installer when two monitors are connected

2009-10-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

About my system:
Live-CD: Ubuntu Desktop 9.04
Graphics card: GeForce 8400 GS

What I did:
Boot the live cd while two monitors are connected (one to the analog slot of my
graphics card, the other using a dvi-to-analog adapter to the dvi slot of my
graphics card)

What I expected:
Installer/Live environment show up and are usable

What happened instead:
For the installer, I see the background image of the installer and nothing
happens. For the live environment, there is only a black screen with a movable
mouse pointer on it.

I've tried the boot option nofb, but it didn't help. The problem does
not occur if I disconnect one of my monitors. After the installation, I
can connect the second monitor and set it up as without problems.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 434212] [NEW] ATI open-source driver, compiz, dual head background problems

2009-10-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker

I'm running Ubuntu Jaunty with the ati open-source driver that comes
with the distro. The video card in my laptop (Lenovo T60) is listed as:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M52 [Mobility
Radeon X1300]

Single and dual-head work great with compiz turned off. Compiz works
well with just the laptop screen. I have one problem with it set to
dual-head. The background image turns totally black and I get these
artifacts when I move windows around. They are broken images of other
windows. I'll attach an image that shows what I am seeing. Besides
that, all the desktop effects work great.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 433508] [NEW] Enabling AMD proprietary FGLRX driver makes kaffeine DVBT player unusable

2009-10-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am running Ubuntu 9.04 2.6.28-15-generic 32 bit on a Lenovo ThinkPad T500.
I have set the BIOS to always use ATI graphics and lspci reports:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon
HD 3650

The standard drivers make any 3D program unusable, but enabling the
ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver in turn makes the DVBT
function of kaffeine unusable.

I previous attempts the whole system crashed or the X-server screen got
unusable (blank with some random gibberish on it) and unresponsible so
that only power-off/power-on worked. In my latest attempt with all
updates installed as of 2009-09-20, the DVBT function of xine does not
show the TV correctly. The picture flickers and shows a constant
greenish shadow image in the lower half of the window. After a while the
X-Screen showed a random pattern with a small random-pattern square as
the mouse pointer. I had to power-off/power-on to make the system usable
again.

I was never able to reproduce it; it happened randomly. I have not seen it

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 440448] [NEW] High Xorg CPU usage (95-99%): Karmic x86-64, fglrx, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600

2009-10-02 Thread dnyaga
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I have Gateway M62 laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T5750; ATI Mobility Radeon
HD 2600 [RV630/M76], 4GB RAM). I upgraded from Jaunty about a week ago.
My system is constantly updated, in sync with changes in the Karmic
repository.

Xorg performance has been terrible. With fglrx (installed from the
Ubuntu repos), Xorg sometimes pins down one core completely, for
prolonged periods (95-100% CPU usage). The problem may or may not go
away on reboot (unpredictable, indeterminate). When it is behaving,
the system is snappy and usable. I purged my fglrx (and all config files
and all related packages) and reinstalled afresh from the Karmic repos.
No change.

I do not run compositing on my desktop. I have a dual screen
configuration (with an external 19 inch Acer monitor, see attached
Xorg.conf files).

Now, fglrx is actually the good one this time round (surprisingly). When
I _purged_ fglrx, I decided to run on the open source drivers for a
while. Performance with the open source drivers is not merely bad - its
goddamn awful. An example - It is impossible to run Netbeans or Eclipse
and get any work done. Screen painting is so slow that there is a lag of
up to 5 seconds between a click and a response. Dragging a small window
(like Gnome terminal) is an ulcer inducing experience. This system is
not performance, memory or load challenged.

Booting without an xorg.conf with the aim of running a non mirrored dual
screen setup is presently not an option.

Other problems (not directly related to xorg) include the inability of
gnome-display-properties and grandr to correctly set up the screen
resolutions of both screens. These should (and probably, will) be
reported as separate bugs, but I have mentioned them here for context.

I have attached:
(1) A screenshot of gnome-terminal (top) showing the load
(2) My present xorg.conf, generated by amdcccle
(3) The xorg.conf used with the -radeon driver)
(4) An Xorg.conf that previously worked well with fglrx (I keep /etc under
version control), under Jaunty
(5) An Xorg.conf that previously worked well with the open source driver, under
Jaunty

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 440448] Re: High Xorg CPU usage (95-99%): Karmic x86-64, fglrx, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600

2009-10-02 Thread dnyaga
Completely purged all fglrx and reinstalled/reconfigured core xorg components
and the radeon driver as per the Ubuntu Wiki instructions:
sudo /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh # (if it exists)
  sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx*
  sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-ati xserver-xorg-video-radeon
  sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati
  sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri
xserver-xorg-core
  sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

General 2D performance is OK. In particular, regular GTK (GNOME) and Qt
(KDE) apps are responsive. CPU usage is normal (was always normal with
-radeon, performance was the problem)

The most severely affected programs for me were the pure java ones
(Netbeans being a particular pain point: Java 2D?) I am using the Sun
Java 1.6 JVM, installed from the Ubuntu repos. I will code in Netbeans
for a while to get a feel for the speed/responsiveness of the system
with these drivers.

In all likelihood, this is not a valid xorg bug. But I will leave it for
someone with more xorg knowledge and experience to close.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 440523] [NEW] X freeze on X200s with gm45 on Karmic

2009-10-02 Thread Luka Renko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I am opening new bug, as the bugs I though I had (bug 424055, bug
396048) were closed as Fixed.

I have X200s with gm45 graphics with up-to-date Kubuntu Karmic. I am
currently running X drivers from x-updates PPA (2.9.0 release), but this
problem is reproducible with both stock X drivers from Karmic as well as
xorg-edgers PPA. I do not use kwin compositing.

Laptop is used with only internal display (home, travel), as well in
dual-head config at work (X200s Docking Base - DisplayPort - DVI - HP
L2045W). I can say that hangs are occurring in both configs, potentially
a bit more often with dual-head config, but this may be subjective due
to more time of using it at work. I would say that on average, I
experience 1 hang per day.

When X freeze/hang occurs, I can ping the system, but I was not able to
login via ssh. Just today, I had ssh session opened from the morning,
just to catch it, but it did not help, as ssh session was stuck, so I
was still not able to collect GPU dump as proposed in bug 388467 :-(

I did not see any obvious errors in the logs (kernel oops, Xorg.0.log
errors or similar), so I am really not sure what I can do to help debug
this problem.

Just for the reference (but probably not related to this problem):
- sometimes I get non-KMS boot as described in bug 392017 - not sure if hang
occurs with non-KMS too, as I always reboot to get KMS boot
- X crash on using some applications - bug 415357
- random X crash with assert - bug 418194 (I did not reproduce this recently)
- random X crash with backtrace - bug 416421 (I did not reproduce this recently)
- wrong resolution in dual-head case - bug 286001

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 437076] Re: installer reboots X over and over again

2009-10-02 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi beyecixramd,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this
issue. If you're using a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 415357] Re: [gm45] [Karmic] Intel Graphics: Xorg consistently crashing when using some applications

2009-10-02 Thread Luka Renko
This bug is still easily reproducible with up-to-date Karmic and also
latest intel 2.9.0 driver from x-updates PPA. I have therefore opened
upstream bug report.

Also, bug 416421 has similar backtrace, therefore it may be related.

This is also a bit of a problem for me in a bit of a strange way too...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 439551] [NEW] X fails post jaunty-karmic upgrade in xubuntu/virtualbox

2009-10-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: xorg

After jaunty-karmic xubuntu upgrade within a virtualbox guest (without
any virtualbox guest utilities installed), X is broken (and due to bug
431166, attempts to restart over and over forever).

The likely culprit is that /etc/X11/xorg.conf is a 0 length file;
indeed, removing the file completely causes X to start working again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 440544] [NEW] Occasional screen corruption with Radeon 4770

2009-10-02 Thread Phil Hughes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

There is occasional corruption of the screen when using a Sapphire
Radeon 4770 card with the open source radeon drivers. The takes the form
of a chequered effect, looking a bit like a chequer board. This is
most noticeable when the screen goes grey (eg when typing gksudo ..) but
can also be seen at other times eg in System Preferences , Appearance,
Theme, the icons for each theme show this. The menus in KeePassX are
corrupted.

The effect does not show when using the fglrx driver when the screen
goes grey, though the Theme icons do still show this same corruption. An
attachment shows a screenshot of the grey screen effect.

(GMA950) and I am still experiencing this issue with xserver-xorg-video-
intel 2:2.8.1-1ubuntu2 installed. Logout returns me to a blank screen
with only my mouse cursor. I am able to drop to TTY though and restart
kdm manually to return to the login screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 440612] [NEW] Lost keyboard after resume from suspend

2009-10-02 Thread Scott Kitterman

System is a Dell mini 10v with Kubuntu Netbook on it.

Touching a key would turn the screen on and I could click and get focus
in the password box, but was unable to type anything into the password

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 179453] Re: xsetwacom list dev broken

2009-10-02 Thread Whoopie
The issue with the wacom tools is also that HAL doesn't put the right
string into info.product. That's why stylus, cursor or pad as
the device name don't work.

Right now, there's a script floating around in different forums or blogs:
#! /bin/sh
## find any wacom devices
for udi in `hal-find-by-property --key input.x11_driver --string wacom`
do
type=`hal-get-property --udi $udi --key input.x11_options.Type`
## rewrite the names that the Xserver will use
hal-set-property --udi $udi --key info.product --string $type
done

My patch fixes this issue in the HAL fdi and hal-setup-wacom tool.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 440614] [NEW] deadlock in intel driver after screensaver runs

2009-10-02 Thread J. Bruce Fields
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

If I leave the machine alone for long enough, I'll return to a blank
(black) screen and unresponsive mouse and keyboard. Disabling the
screen saver seems to work around the problem. I can still ssh in after
the problem occurs, and see hung-task warnings in dmesg (see attached
dmesg-fragment). As you can see, the tasks involved are i915/0, Xorg,
and lorenz (the screensaver).

I'm running karmic, xserver-xorg-video-intel version 2:2.8.1-1ubuntu2,

@svaens: Xorg 1.6.0 is fairly close to 1.6.3. You could try applying the
backclear patch to it. I'd say your chances are about 95% that it'll
work.

In my experience the latest drivers don't resolve this issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411451] Re: [ATI][KMS][R300] Compiz boots to white screen with Mesa 7.6+git

2009-10-02 Thread Dominik
I am also experiencing this issue on R200 hardware.

In Jaunty, when enabling compositing, the system looks for 3 instances
of texture_from_pixmap in the output from glxinfo. It's there.

On Karmic, there are only 2 instances of this in glxinfo output.
Compositing in KDE is horribly slow, in Gnome a bit better (I think) but
still slow and interestingly, in both KDE and Gnome enabling compositing
causes the wallpaper to go all black.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365420] Re: wacom pressure doesn't work in QT applications

2009-10-02 Thread Loïc Martin
The bug against wacom-tools was invalid, and should have been reported
against qt, not wacom-tools.

Anyway, it's fixed in Karmic, with libqtcore 4.5.2 that's in the
repositories (my version is 4.5.2-0ubuntu5), tried with Krita, see
attached screenshot. I don't have a clue if it would be possible to get
a Stable Release Update for Jaunty or any other release though, but if
someone really think there's a possibility to fix it for Jaunty too the
bug should be opened against libqtcore4 (or something similar, I'm no Qt
expert), not wacom-tools. Then try to find which patch fixed that in Qt,
and see if the patch would also work in Jaunty, and do the rest of the
SRU process.

Karmic final is only in 28 days though, and has an updated linuxwacom
driver (0.8.4.1), so I'm not sure how many Wacom tablet users are going
to stick with Jaunty.
