[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 400934] Re: [i945] (UXA) Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02)

2009-10-27 Thread Ryan
On Karmic i386 (up to date as of 10/25/09) with a Foxconn Atom
barebones. After logging in to gnome, I have a lockup within 5 seconds
of a compiz effect, 3d effect (screensaver or other 3d app) appearing on
the screen. Removing compiz from the system and disabling 3d
screensavers avoids the lockup.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 462393] [NEW] [Karmic] Sony Vaio VGN-C260E laptop freezes when external monitor is plugged in

2009-10-27 Thread Sean Davis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I'm running Karmic, 9.10, on a Sony Vaio VGN-C260E laptop, using an
Intel driver (see lspci output below). My computer is completely
freezing under two circumstances:

1. I connect an external monitor after the laptop is already booted up

2. If I boot the laptop with an external monitor attached, it works
properly (output is to external monitor, not to laptop display).
However, if I attempt to switch between the external monitor and laptop
display using the Fn-F7 hotkey, it will switch to displaying on both
displays. If I hit Fn-F7 again the laptop freezes. No
ctrl+alt+backspace/esc/delete/Fxx does anything. I have to hard power
down

Note -- if I properly turn off the external monitor (using system-
preferences-display), I can disconnect it just fine and use the laptop
display. If I then attempt to plug in a DIFFERENT external monitor, I
get the same behavior as in 1.

>From reading around, it looks as though this is related to the xserver-
xorg-video-intel package, and that people have had similar experiences.
I list this as a new bug because it seems I'm having slightly different
behavior, and with different hardware.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 462360] Re: Panels and icons will not load upon boot

2009-10-27 Thread Colin Azzam
I need to correct two things. First of all, I meant "Klearlooks."

Secondly, I attempted to use several other settings, and each one
rendered the same result. The only way I can successfully boot my
system with all icons and panels is with "oxygen" selected.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 462360] [NEW] Panels and icons will not load upon boot

2009-10-27 Thread Colin Azzam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When I attempt to change the display of the panels to "clearlooks" it
refreshes with the new look and works fine. However, after shutting
down and rebooting, Kubuntu gets passed the boot screen and leaves me
with a blank desktop. All panels and icons are invisible and I have to
restore kde using the backup file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 455614] Re: don't mess with the pc file

2009-10-27 Thread Robert Ancell
I don't see the value in changing it and it should surely have been done
upstream instead. However the change is legal and the example given
should explicitly require libICE as it has libICE references inside of
it. This will have to be argued in Debian if this is to change as they
are our upstream in this regard.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 462349] [NEW] Mono WinForms apps don't show text on menus and button

2009-10-27 Thread Eberhard Beilharz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

With the latest version of xserver-xorg-video-intel
(2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2~xup~3) any Mono WinForms doesn't draw the text on
menus and buttons. The menus and buttons are there, but the text doesn't
show. This happens with my installed mono and a mono version built from
latest svn.

With the previous version of xserver-xorg-video-intel
(2:2.7.1-0ubuntu1~xup~1) this worked.

I'm running 64-bit Jaunty; problem also happens in a 32-bit chroot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 462334] [NEW] screen display corruption after launching "ps3 media server"

2009-10-27 Thread Bruno Bigras
Public bug reported:

GNU/Linux
KUbuntu 9.10 karmic

Most of the time when I launch the "ps3 media server" java app, the
screen start to blink and freeze. I managed to get to ALT+F1 and kill
the java app and when I return, the screen is corrupted (see attached
picture). I think even if I don't kill it but just do ALT+F1 and come
back with ALT+F7 the screen gets corrupted.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 462307] [NEW] XOrg freezes when playing mpeg2 file with mplayer and i965 xvmc

2009-10-27 Thread manu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

First I can watch videos (and the mpeg2 file I used to get the freeze) using
textured Xv with no problem.
It is my first try with i965 xvmc and mplayer support for it so I cant compare
with anything.
Also the freeze is "total": no mouse pointer, no keyboard, no ctrl-alt-Fx, but
I cant test a remote session so I dunno.
Let me know if there is a way to run Xorg inside gdb (but with no remote
session) to pinpoint something more precise.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 293884] Re: window focus lost for unknown reason

2009-10-27 Thread Tyler B
Sorry folks. I haven't been here in a while. The problem still exists,
but only with Compiz turned on. I have an NVidia graphics card with the
NVidia drivers installed. I have, since, turned off Compiz and the
problems have disappeared. I am, very much, a basic user of Linux and
don't know how to diagnose problems with it. I'm currently running
Ubuntu 9.04, fully up to date.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 293884] Re: window focus lost for unknown reason

2009-10-27 Thread Ross Nye
While I am not the OP I am definately effected by this bug and still am.
It's a problem for me with a fully to date 9.04 installation. - latest
kernel etc.

However its end of semester atm and I haven't had time to run the latest
live CD. Exams finish for me Friday week. I will install 9.10 after
that.

Please re-open this bug and I will attend to above request as soon as I
can.

Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 462287] [NEW] Mouse pointer invisible

2009-10-27 Thread Ricardo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

in Ubuntu 9.04. updating from
"xserver-xorg-video-intel_2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2~xup~1_i386.deb" to
"xserver-xorg-video-intel_2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2~xup~3_i386.deb" caused the mouse
pointer to be invisible after boot under gdm.
Under xfce there is no problem.
Opening a terminal (blindly) and just typing a CR from the command line would
restore the pointer.

Going back to "xserver-xorg-video-intel_2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2~xup~1_i386.deb"
solved the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 397617] Re: brightness no more working on karmic (KMS)

2009-10-27 Thread chris
Karmic with the latest upgrades from today. Hardware is a MacBook 3,1.
Backlight is also not working with KMS enabled. Using the "nomodeset"
option during boot at least gets xbacklight to work again. Although
closing the lid is not turning off the backlight. This used to work with
Jaunty.

Synaptics TouchPad driver for X.Org server
j...@ubuntu:/etc/apt$

I seem to have the latest touchpad driver, after doing an update couple
of minutes ago, the mouse on my Mini10V is pretty jumpy. I added
alberto's ppa but my xserver package is already the newest version and
(seems to have the fix ?) is supposed to have the mouse fix for 10V.

is this a regression of some sort ? synaptic-report is missing from the
PPA, so cant attach that output like others have done.

There is actually a "work around for this bug" if you select an image as
a background in "Apparance" "Arriere Plan" or in English "Appearance"

transparency as 0 and apply and you should not see the white background
anymore...

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 351186] Re: [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled

2009-10-27 Thread José Tomás Atria
I agree that felix's patch is superior (apparently the empty buffer's
load faster than the ones containing random memory contents, besides
the already discussed security and aestethics aspects), but at least
for me, i'm experiencing memory leaks with both alternatives.

Incidentally, i seem to observe a higher memory leaking with newer X
versions as karmic release approaches than in jaunty or firts karmic
betas...

do you think that a memory usage test in a virual machine will do any
good? i can set up a couple of vms and leave them running to see
memory usage patterns...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 462168] [NEW] dual monitors not working on upgrade to karmic

2009-10-27 Thread tim.rittman
Public bug reported:

Hi All,

I have a Geforce GT8600 graphics card that was working well with dual
monitors (two individual X servers) in Jaunty. On upgrade to Karmic I am
unable to get the dual monitors working. I have tried nvidia-glx-180,
nvidia-glx-185 and nvidia-glx-180-dev. The primary screen is blank,
though the mouse will disappear on to it, so it is clearly there
somewhere! The nv drivers work, but of course can only put the one X
server on both screens.

My xorg.conf file is as follows:

2009-10-27 Thread Travis Watkins
It's too late to do this for the final release but if we get an accurate
list of card affected we could perhaps do it in an SRU. The real problem
is that, as we've seen with previous ATI blacklists, not every card with
the same pci id is affected. I don't know if that is the case for this
issue but we'd want to try to make sure one way or the other before
doing anything.

- Need more login tries to start X (Xubuntu)
+ X crash on start (Xubuntu)

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gdm

I installed Xubuntu 9.10 beta from the Xubuntu beta installation disc.

In the beginning everything was working fine. But after some time (maybe
after changing resolution via "Settings -> Display") I have difficulties
logging into X. This takes between 1 or 5 login tries.

Along with that problem I lost the xfce-panel, which I worked around
with adding it add manually to "Session and Autostart".

My system is quite "default" and uptodate, with some packages from
  medibuntu.

In my home directory there's a .xsession-errors.old with these contents:

  /etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
Setting IM through im-switch for locale=en_US.
Start IM through /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/all_ALL linked to

2009-10-27 Thread Bartosz
Try to run without "kdm".

For example start Ubuntu only in text mode, and type "startx"

Or

Run Ubuntu 9.04 with GNOME.

Or.

Run KDE via "gdm"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461361] Re: mouse cursor is frozen after resume from suspend

2009-10-27 Thread supiik
hi,

I did more testing today.

It does not seem to be problem of cursor itself.
It seems to be related with HW.

I resumed from suspend and cursor was locked. Than I have pluged in
my USB mouse and cursor works fine. If I have my mouse pluged in
all the time there is no problem. So it looks like the touchpad is not recovered
properly.

Do you still need lspci output in this case?

Peter

Hi kspitz,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this
issue. If you're using a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nv” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
Similar to #424257, I am unable to boot the amd64 version of Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic
Koala live cd. The 32 bit works fine.

I expect at least some console output after removing both quiet and
splash from the boot line, however I receive none.

The computer will boot to the grub just fine, and I am able to select my
language, and how I want the CD to be booted. Either 'install' or 'run
without installing' give the same error. The error being a blank
background with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner of the
screen. I have let it sit there for an hour once and it did not move
past.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 434376] Re: KDE kicker, menu and apps titlebar not viewable

2009-10-27 Thread johnnyhop
After "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade" and downloading 127mb of
archives and noting "xserver-xorg-video-ati" wasn't in the upgrade list
but other xorg packages were in the list proceed with "apt-get install
xserver-xorg-video-ati" reported "xserver-xorg-video-ati is the latest
version." Then rebooted and found the bug is still an issue.

Is it possible something else needs to be done on my part?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 441112] Re: Got black screen when set to dual monitor mode

2009-10-27 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
Such a grave regression should at least have a priority assigned since
the day it was noticed by a developer. As usual ubuntu does not handle
regressions with the intel driver at all.

I strongly suggest the original reporter to go directly to the intel bug
tracker. Not that they are particularly responsive on bugs related to
the VGA out (my previous laptop died before they pronounced a sole word
on the bug, but after I spent hours reporting them all the needed logs).
But at least, it will be a barrier less. According to my experience it
does not make sense to report such bugs in ubuntu.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461999] [NEW] Severe artifacts with Mobility M6 and XAA

2009-10-27 Thread SadEagle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

(Note that the autosent xorg.conf has workarounds)

When using a nearly-empty/please-autodetect-everything Xorg.conf,
on Karmic RC, on ATI Radeon Mobility M6, no composite manager,
I am getting severe artifacts in KDE --- the plasma panel and window manager
decoration are entirely unpainted, just basically white with some noise.

Turning off the composite extension (even though cm wasn't on) fixes
Plasma but not kwin. Switching to EXA removes major[1] problems, but
is extraordinarily slow --- any animation, like say in kickoff, is just
unusable, and Xorg often uses 100% CPU.
[1] There are some occasional black lines on top of text, but rare and
not affecting system usability.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461863] Re: Karmic regresion: Huge fonts with KMS

2009-10-27 Thread Sveinung Kvilhaugsvik
Another reason to think the problem is in KMS is that this only happens
when KMS is used. With KMS disabled (when nomodeset is passed as an
argument to linux from the boot loader) the fonts are normal.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 214154] Re: Can't VSYNC properly on ATI (Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT)

2009-10-27 Thread Teej
@crep4ever: If you are running Karmic already you will not need to
follow those instructions, it is just for older versions. Can you update
your Karmic installation fully, and then please execute the following
command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a
terminal:

apport-collect -p xorg 214154

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thank you.

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Incomplete

I mean, if some software picks the first of two "default" layouts
[us,de], it'll pick the wrong one.

As Martin said already, having more than one "default" doesn't make
sense anyways.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461975] [NEW] [RS960] Broken sync and Nokia 800 Pro+

2009-10-27 Thread Malte S. Stretz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

This is a quick bug drop before the Karmic release about yet another bug
with the radeon-killer monitor Nokia 800 Pro+ about which you can read
more in bug 298094. While the latest radeon driver from the
ubuntu-x-swat x-updates PPA for Jaunty worked fine
(1:6.12.2-0ubuntu1~xup~1 it seems), the switch to Karmic broke it again.
Lucky me, the radeonhd driver works like a charm.

This time, the sync seems to be totally messed up. I saw this on Jaunty
as well (I think it was with radeonhd though), it looks like flirring
lines of colorful pixels and the monitor image is jumping like an
heartbeat. The description of bug 20283 sounds similar.

Have a look at the attached Xorg.log.old which uses the radeon driver
without any xorg.conf while Xorg.log uses radeonhd. I currently don't
have the time to investigate further, but next week. Any pointers are
welcome as always :)
