[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 317094] Re: meta bug to collect lshal touchscreen info

2009-12-29 Thread bsgcic
Hi I just installed on Ubuntu 9.10 on a HP TouchSmart tx2 VH884PA
touchscreen laptop (Japanese machine). I received the following error
message:

No evtouch capable device found, if you are sure you have
an evtouch capable touchscreen, please mail the resulting file of the command
lshal evtouch_hal.out to the
bug url https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/317094, so support for your device can
be added.

I am guessing that I am supposed to add the file to this bug thead using
Add attachment or patch?

Please let me know if this is correct or if I am supposed to email it to
a launchpad.net email address.

Thank you

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 292214] Re: Xinerama broken since intrepid on MGA

2009-12-29 Thread falk
Hi,

I installed a completely new ubuntu 9.10 Karmic and followed the advice
of #61 Woko. But the dual view does not work. X can not find any device
and uses always the failsafe config of xorg.conf.

do you guys have any advice? many thanks in advance.

(PS.: before all of this, I have had ubuntu 9.04, later updated to 9.10 and
changed the graiph driver patched by andi. the dual view has worked. but the
update to 9.10 has raised more other problems, so I formatted all and did above
- a new installation of 9.10 ).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 499876] [NEW] Gnome and Xorg freeze on screen rotation

2009-12-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I connected a flat panel to VGA port of an Asus Eee Box with Ubuntu. The
monitor was mounted in portrait mode so I set up screen rotation from gnome
display preferences. As soon as I did it screen gets rotated, but windows and
panels were split in two, and everything froze up, mouse pointer was responsive
but everything else on GUI was irresponsive. Even ctrl+alt+canc wasn't working.
I was forced to reboot in order to restore. I tried also to manually configure
Xorg several times without success, restoring things via ssh every time...
because of GUI definitely broken.
Finally I was forced to switch to Windows XP and got screen rotated with Intel
driver utilities in no time... :(
I don't have access anymore to that system (was a one-shot help to another
person) so I cannot provide screenshoots, logs and other info, sorry.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 428804] Re: incorrect x resolution laptop display

2009-12-29 Thread Adam Niedling
I think I have the same issue since I upgraded to Karmic.
I have an Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 and an Amilo LSL 3230T screen which has a
native resolution of 1920*1080. At the login screen the resolution is correct
but after I login it switches to 1440*900. It is possible to change it back
manually but no matter what's in the xorg.conf file the resolution will always
be 1440*900 after login.
VSJ: can you create a xorg.conf file so you can use the Save to X
configuration file button? Just to see if it fixes your problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447892] Re: [i855GM] Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855

2009-12-29 Thread AKrone
Hello Geir,

thank you for the freezetest kernels.
I tried them out with Karmic. My result is: no freezes happend with none of the
kernels freezetest1, freezetest8 and freezetest9.
My graphic card is a Intel 855 and shows this values in lspci:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated
Graphics Device (rev 02)
Subsystem: Fujitsu Technology Solutions Device 1033
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11
Memory at e800 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
Memory at e000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K]
I/O ports at 1800 [size=8]
Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 1
Kernel modules: intelfb

For the test I removed the xorg.conf file and had no 'nomodeset' command line
for the kernels.
Logfiles Xorg.0.log from the three tests are included.

Regards
Armin

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 419328] Re: [i945gme] attaching external monitor: laptop display is black, external monitor too, with frozen mouse coursor

2009-12-29 Thread mag
Confirmed for Karmic 9.10 on an ASUS EEE PC 1000he / Intel GMA 950.

It only happens when Monitor hasn't been plugged in at boot time.
Sometimes I can avoid it by switching Fn-F8 into mirror both screens.
Using gnome-display-manager after that works fine in most cases - any
resolution.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 151674] Re: compiz+nvidia: tearing in xvideo (totem/mplayer/VLC/XINE)

2009-12-29 Thread Murky
I was searching for a solution for more than one year and I was very
frustrated about all these Enable Sync To VBlank in Compiz-Answers. So
I started to get into this Compiz- and nVidia-Constellation and searched
for a solution on my own. And I finally can say: I found it. The Problem
is, that Ubuntu is starting Compiz with the session immediatly and is
ignoring the VSync of Nvidia. So you have to start Compiz after 'nvidia-
settings -l'.

Let's Start.

(I am using the german version of Ubuntu 9.10, so the names of programs
can be different, than explained)

1. You have to disable Compiz in Appereance by turning off the Desktop Effects.
2. Create a new Entry in your StartUp-Programs with the command:
nvidia-settings -l
3 Create another Entry in your StartUp-Programs with the command: compiz-wait
4. Now open your Terminal and type: sudo gedit /usr/local/bin/compiz-wait

Now copy this text into the Editor:

#!/bin/bash
sleep 3
compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints
emerald --replace

Save Exit.

The last line is optional, it is only necessary, if you are using
Emerald.

5. Type in the Terminal: sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/compiz-wait

You can try the command compiz-wait, if it is not working you must customize
the parameter after
compiz. In my case, they are dong the job.

Now restart your computer, after logging in it takes 3 seconds before starting
compiz, so wait for that. You can
change the amount of seconds in the script above, if your computer is slow and
is showing the Ubuntu Logo, when
compiz starts. In some cases its breaking the script.

I hope, that will help some of you, and even the developers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495973] Re: low graphics mode after today's update

2009-12-29 Thread C de-Avillez
OK. I have this issue (ATI X1200). What I did to bypass:

1. copied the default XOrg configuration from /var/log/Xorg.*.log (it is
printed there) into /etc/X11/xorg.conf;
2. Edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and disabled the ATI driver section;
3. bounced X.

Now I am running with VESA, and can work nicely. Of course, I do not
have whatever fancy thingies I might had before, but it works.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2009-12-29 Thread Mark Ellse
Done the testing suggested by Geir. All done on Lucid, but I guess the same is
true for Karmic.
2.6.30-freezetest1 works
2.6.30-freezetest9 freezes
2.6.30-freezetest8 works

For those who wish to test, here is what to do.
When your machine is booting, press ESC a single time early during bootup to
get the GRUB boot menu. (When to press ESC needs a bit of experiment because
both Karmic and Lucid are designed to boot fast, not to spend time waiting for
key presses.)
When you get the boot menue, choose recovery mode and select a shell with
networking
Download files from shell. I used:

'wget http://www.hvante.info/845Gfreeze'

This downloads an index file with the file names on there.

Then, for each file, download them. Here is an example of one.

'wget www.kvante.info/845Gfreeze/linux-
image-2.6.30-freezetest1_git03347e2~gomyhr_i386.deb'

You have to do each file individually; wildcards are not allowed with
http downloads.

Then:

`dpkg -i linux-image*.deb`.

I got some funny messages, which didn't seem to matter.
(Hmm. There is a symbolic link /lib/modules/2.6.30
However, I can not read it: No such file or directory
Therefore I am deleting /lib/modules/2.6.30..) These funny messages didn't
seem to matter.

Then boot your computer and choose which kernel to test in the Grub boot
menu - see Geir's instructions above. (Remember, you need to get the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500117] [NEW] kde bad screen resolution after login

2009-12-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I don't know what I did but from now on I can't succeed to have the right
screen resolution when my system starts.
Exactly, It seems resolution is right by the login step, then my profile is
loaded and resolution becomes 640x480 though I forced my xorg.conf by putting
only Modes 1280x800 in the Screen Section.

I have to shell xrandr --output default --mode 1280x800 so as to get
the right one.

My problem must be linked to something wrong with my fglrx drivers, because now
though aticonfig runs fine, I can't launch amdcccle (catalyst center) nor
fglrxinfo, both return :
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 143 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
Serial number of failed request: 17
Current serial number in output stream: 17

Then If I go in kubuntu monitor settings and then set the right
resolution, It changes completely my xorg.conf and restarting the system
leads to a login screen with the wrong resolution as well as a wrong
resolution getting to the desktop.

My fglrx drivers comes from ati-driver-installer-9-3-x86.x86_64.run

Anyway, here are all the information about my system:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447892] Re: [i855GM] Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855

2009-12-29 Thread Olie
Thank you Geir for your work on this.

I have tested your freezetest kernels with good results as follows:

I am using an Asus M2400N laptop with the Intel 855GM, as reported by lspci -v:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated
Graphics Device (rev 02)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 1712
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 5
Memory at f000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
Memory at ffa8 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K]
I/O ports at dc00 [size=8]
Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 1
Kernel modules: i915

Using the latest standard kernel (2.6.31-16-generic), I need to boot
with nolapic and nomodeset and use the vesa driver (xorg.conf in
/etc/X11 as described above) to prevent the system from freezing a few
seconds after the desktop appears. The mouse pointer can still move, but
everything else is frozen.

Test case: Booting without nolapic and nomodeset and removed
/etc/X11/xorg.conf

freezetest1: In two out of three reboots, the mouse pointer froze, but
the system kept on working (the opposite effect of the standard
kernel!!!). The pointer was stuck in the middle of the screen, but I
could navigate the system fine using keyboard shortcuts.

freezetest9: Works fine, no problems. Also works with maximum visual
effects.

I tried to install the freezetest8 kernel, but dpkg gave me the following error
(in Danish, hopefully you will be able to understand, I can see from your
profile that you speak Norwegian):

Great! That's the first confirmation that the commit that Brian Rogers

Thanks for the detailed explanation of how to test.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 164589] Re: Occasional screen-wide blink when using opengl apps (compiz also) and Nvidia cards

2009-12-29 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
This bug still exists in Karmic. I recently reinstalled Ubuntu on my
computer with Karmic 64-bit and stopped using a second monitor and the
bug is still there. I have opened this against the source package for
the 185-series drivers.

Also, the suggested workarounds are not acceptable because they increase
power usage.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 362582] Re: [i830] Installer unable to launch Xorg on Fujitsu Stylistic ST4120PW

2009-12-29 Thread chungyan5
hi all

I have already downgraded my Fujitsu S6010 to ubuntu 8.04 and xserver-
xorg-video-i810_1.7.4-0ubuntu7_i386.deb, it is work very stable and
fine. So i will not upgrade it anymore again in any future. 830M chipset
is closed in update system, such as ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10. I upgraded to
them and cannot work very good. So my current stable configuration seems
as Fujitsu S6010 can do it best already.

good luck.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494672] Re: switching from running xserver to VT and back freezes system with black screen

2009-12-29 Thread David Tombs
Hi christian, I might be experiencing the same issue, also with a Radeon
Xpress 200M.

However, I could not reproduce using the vesa driver. This might be
because the VT's and X used the same resolution (800x600), possibly
avoiding triggering the bug. Did you manually set a higher res when
using the vesa driver?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 463780] Re: no support for steelseries mouse

2009-12-29 Thread Vish
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.
Phoenix i'v assigned the package for the bug.
Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging
information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 463780

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

** Package changed: ubuntu = xserver-xorg-input-mouse (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 458959] Re: Left click doesn'r work at log in

2009-12-29 Thread tristezo2k
Dell D630 worked ok 4 years under debians, freebsd and windows.
Installed Ubuntu 9.10, and 10 minutes after the first boot, left mouse button
stop working.
Usb mouse moves ok, right and central buttons works ok.

Alt + tab stopped working too, but not Ctrl + w, Ctrl + q, or other keys
combinations.

This seems to be a condition where the touch pad AND the mouse are working at
the same time.
On this lap, it seems that when left button dies, clicking once on the touch
pad left mouse button, brings it to life again.
Thanks,
Sebastian

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494166] Re: [lucid] nvidia-glx can't work with new xorg 7.5

2009-12-29 Thread Alex Mayorga Adame
I have this card http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_gt_230m_us.html
on my laptop.
What driver should I use? Is it better to wait for the official repo to have
the driver?
Currently jockey suggests 185. Is that the right one?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494166] Re: [lucid] nvidia-glx can't work with new xorg 7.5

2009-12-29 Thread Curtis Lee Bolin
Alex, I would have expected you to post a question like that in
Launchpad Answers or Ubuntu forums. Usually the newest driver is the
best to use. That would be 185 in the official repository. It is all
up to you if you want to try unofficial ones. Just make sure you know
the risk and what you are doing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477256] Re: [i855] Xserver freezing on Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel 82852/855GM)

2009-12-29 Thread Irihapeti
I installed linux-image-2.6.30-freezetest1, linux-
image-2.6.30-freezetest8 and linux-image-2.6.30-freezetest9, as per
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/447892. I tested freezetest1 and freezetest9 for over 1 1/2
hours without lockup. I removed acpi=off from the grub kernel line in
both cases.

The kernels behaved well, as far as I can tell, except that I had to
boot using the recovery mode. Otherwise, boot hung at the point where
the listing of modem drivers occurs.

As version 9 didn't freeze, I didn't bother with testing version 8.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 420577] Re: [i945] Macbook's DVI out doesn't work

2009-12-29 Thread mikesmithv
I just tried another monitor (DVI) and it worked fine in all modes. So
the problem seems to be that certain monitors are not recognized as a
DVI device. The monitor which is not recognized is a Dell SE198WFP flat
panel LCD monitor.

Another curious thing is that xrandr occasionally reports more
information as if it is trying to detect the monitor as shown below:

m...@dell64:~$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2880 x 900, maximum 4096 x 4096
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
LVDS1 connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 367mm x
230mm
   1440x900 59.9*+
   1360x768 59.8
   1152x864 60.0
   1024x768 60.0
   800x60060.3
   640x48059.9
DVI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
TV1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  1440x900 (0x3f) 106.5MHz
h: width 1440 start 1520 end 1672 total 1904 skew0 clock 55.9KHz
v: height 900 start 903 end 909 total 934 clock 59.9Hz

Typing xrandr a second time does not show those last 3 lines. I do not
know why those last 3 lines show up sometimes but I think it is more
likely to happen just after I have plugged in the monitor. The monitor
is a 1440X900, same as the laptop screen so it could be info about
either screen.
