[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 317094] Re: meta bug to collect lshal touchscreen info
Hi I just installed on Ubuntu 9.10 on a HP TouchSmart tx2 VH884PA touchscreen laptop (Japanese machine). I am guessing that I am supposed to add the file to this bug thead using Add attachment or patch? You have been subscribed to a public bug: I connected a flat panel to VGA port of an Asus Eee Box with Ubuntu. As soon as I did it screen gets rotated, but windows and panels were split in two, and everything froze up, mouse pointer was responsive but everything else on GUI was irresponsive. Even ctrl+alt+canc wasn't working. I was forced to reboot in order to restore. I tried also to manually configure Xorg several times without success, restoring things via ssh every time... because of GUI definitely broken. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 151674] Re: compiz+nvidia: tearing in xvideo (totem/mplayer/VLC/XINE)
I was searching for a solution for more than one year and I was very frustrated about all these Enable Sync To VBlank in Compiz-Answers. So I started to get into this Compiz- and nVidia-Constellation and searched for a solution on my own. And I finally can say: I found it. The Problem is, that Ubuntu is starting Compiz with the session immediatly and is ignoring the VSync of Nvidia. So you have to start Compiz after 'nvidia- settings -l'. Let's Start. (I am using the german version of Ubuntu 9.10, so the names of programs can be different, than explained) 1. You have to disable Compiz in Appereance by turning off the Desktop Effects. 2. Create a new Entry in your StartUp-Programs with the command: nvidia-settings -l 3 Create another Entry in your StartUp-Programs with the command: compiz-wait 4. Now open your Terminal and type: sudo gedit /usr/local/bin/compiz-wait Now copy this text into the Editor: #!/bin/bash sleep 3 compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints emerald --replace Save Exit. The last line is optional, it is only necessary, if you are using Emerald. 5. Type in the Terminal: sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/compiz-wait You can try the command compiz-wait, if it is not working you must customize the parameter after compiz. In my case, they are dong the job. Now restart your computer, after logging in it takes 3 seconds before starting compiz, so wait for that. You can change the amount of seconds in the script above, if your computer is slow and is showing the Ubuntu Logo, when compiz starts. In some cases its breaking the script. I hope, that will help some of you, and even the developers. -- compiz+nvidia: tearing in xvideo (totem/mplayer/VLC/XINE) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/151674 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495973] Re: low graphics mode after today's update
OK. I have this issue (ATI X1200). What I did to bypass: 1. copied the default XOrg configuration from /var/log/Xorg.*.log (it is printed there) into /etc/X11/xorg.conf; 2. Edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and disabled the ATI driver section; 3. bounced X. Now I am running with VESA, and can work nicely. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in
Done the testing suggested by Geir. All done on Lucid, but I guess the same is true for Karmic. 2.6.30-freezetest1 works 2.6.30-freezetest9 freezes 2.6.30-freezetest8 works For those who wish to test, here is what to do. When your machine is booting, press ESC a single time early during bootup to get the GRUB boot menu. (When to press ESC needs a bit of experiment because both Karmic and Lucid are designed to boot fast, not to spend time waiting for key presses.) When you get the boot menue, choose recovery mode and select a shell with networking Download files from shell. I used: 'wget http://www.hvante.info/845Gfreeze' This downloads an index file with the file names on there. Then, for each file, download them. Here is an example of one. 'wget www.kvante.info/845Gfreeze/linux- image-2.6.30-freezetest1_git03347e2~gomyhr_i386.deb' You have to do each file individually; wildcards are not allowed with http downloads. Then: `dpkg -i linux-image*.deb`. I got some funny messages, which didn't seem to matter. (Hmm. There is a symbolic link /lib/modules/2.6.30 However, I can not read it: No such file or directory Therefore I am deleting /lib/modules/2.6.30..) These funny messages didn't seem to matter. Then boot your computer and choose which kernel to test in the Grub boot menu - see Geir's instructions above. The mouse pointer can still move, but everything else is frozen. Test case: Booting without nolapic and nomodeset and removed /etc/X11/xorg.conf freezetest1: In two out of three reboots, the mouse pointer froze, but the system kept on working (the opposite effect of the standard kernel!!!). Another curious thing is that xrandr occasionally reports more information as if it is trying to detect the monitor as shown below: m...@dell64:~$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2880 x 900, maximum 4096 x 4096 VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) LVDS1 connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 367mm x 230mm 1440x900 59.9*+ 1360x768 59.8 1152x864 60.0 1024x768 60.0 800x60060.3 640x48059.9 DVI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) TV1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 1440x900 (0x3f) 106.5MHz h: width 1440 start 1520 end 1672 total 1904 skew0 clock 55.9KHz v: height 900 start 903 end 909 total 934 clock 59.9Hz Typing xrandr a second time does not show those last 3 lines. I do not know why those last 3 lines show up sometimes but I think it is more likely to happen just after I have plugged in the monitor. The monitor is a 1440X900, same as the laptop screen so it could be info about either screen. -- [i945] Macbook's DVI out doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420577 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
