[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 351186] Re: [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] [ubuntu 9.10] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled

2010-01-29 Thread 7oby
bug ix NOT fixed in Catalyst fglrx 10.1. (and also not in 9.12).

Catalyst 10.1 installation will fail on x86_64 in first place:
http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?p=109862#post109862

But a walkaround for broken library references is known:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 514234] [NEW] Autodetection results in reduced resolutions available - i915

2010-01-29 Thread Christina Boumpouka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I'm using a Dell optiplex 760 with an intel i915 chipset.
The problem is that xorg *usually* doesn't recognize the screen so it uses a
lower resolution 800x600. The only available resolutions are 640x480 and
800x600.
Sometimes however the screen is recognized and the resolution is just fine. I
haven't been able to find out under what circumstances this happens...
My guess is that EDID information is sometimes detected incorrectly...

I've tried rebooting Karmic with the kernel parameter modeset=0 and creating an
xorg.conf file through X -configure
but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2010-01-29 Thread Lorenzo De Liso
I have just tried with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.8.1-1, the system crashes on
boot, particularly, when gdm login starts.
I have disabled compiz and seems to work. With the driver
xserver-xorg-video-intel-2.4 seems there aren't problems, no crashs with this
driver. I have tried with ubuntu lucid lynx alpha 2 too and the
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.8.1-1 driver crashs. with or without compiz, I'm
working on it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 514234] Re: Autodetection results in reduced resolutions available - i915

2010-01-29 Thread vagoskar
Hi, same problem here, the only way to make X get a reasonable
resolution is by restarting the Xserver at the login GDM/KDM login
screen, until it gives up and decides to probe the hardware for a
change... Manual setting in xorg.conf also seems not working... I am
attaching my xorg.conf for reference, in case someone has any
suggestions. Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 514245] [NEW] bad double buffering or vertical sync

2010-01-29 Thread salva
Public bug reported:

Playing video with mplayer or totem does not run smoothly. Consecutive

If happens with any video I have tried both at full screen and in window

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 227183] Re: no calibration tool

2010-01-29 Thread DMA02
It's difficult to form it into a question, if i did it would be why
doesn't pm-setup detect my touchscreen?

I tried doing a cat /dev/ttyS0-5 to no avail.

My touch screen is supposed to be connected on COM 5 (which is an
internal com port, not external)

Plainly, the touchscreen is not getting detected. I opened my machine up
and it is using some custom controller board built with the design specs
of penmount circuitry.

The windows drivers of penmout work on this machine, I've seen a
digitouch usb serial v1.3.3 file there which makes me wonder what they
are doing. Are there any official (even if it is closed source) penmount
drivers?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 514319] [NEW] Animated mouse pointer disappears some times

2010-01-29 Thread Friedrich Graeter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Ubuntu normally shows an animated mouse pointer to indicate load
(similar to the hour glass on Windows).

On my Radeon Mobility x1400, this mouse pointer has some strange
behaviour sometimes: it is shown for a fraction of a second and then it
disappears completely. It is really problematic, since I don't see any
mouse pointer unless GNOME switches back to the non-animated arrow
pointer.

This bug didn't occur in the beginning of my Karmic installation - so I
think it emerged after an update one month ago.

My system is running in a dual head configuration with Compiz.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 514336] [NEW] Key presses repeat when key is held down does not work

2010-01-29 Thread Ernst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Hi,

I'm running Ubuntu Lucid Alpha 2, 64bit with kernel 2.6.32-12-generic.
I just noticed that if I press a key, it is not repeated anymore. This behavior
is noticed in a terminal: it is impossible to go fast to a certain position.
If I go to Keyboard Preferences (Preferences Keyboard), the setting Key
presses repeat when key is held down is not ticked. However, if I tick it,
holding a key results in only two key strokes. It looks like this bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/127620, but as that one is
rather old and one advises to fill in a new bug report, here it is.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 96676] Re: function keys don't work in gnome-terminal

2010-01-29 Thread NevemTeve
Once upon a time I back-tracked the problem, and it was somewhere really
deep in

gnome/widgets/vte/src/keymap.c:_vte_keymap_key_add_key_modifiers -- it
has an algorithm to hack function-key-codes, when SHIFT pressed, eg:

F1 = ESC O P
Shift+F1 = ESC [ O 1 ; 2 P

should be= ESC O 2 P (Shift + F11 = F13 -- (why not F11? dunno.))

It should be completely rewritten (nobody volunteered yet?), or a new
terminal-type should be defined which is compatible with these
sequences.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 510311] Re: Touchscreen working on Lucid Alpha 2, Breaks with Recent Upgrades

2010-01-29 Thread Shaved Wookie
No improvement so far. I can give logs if needed.

Quick question:

How do I actually try xf86-input-wacom? It's listed at
packages.ubuntu.com as being in main, but Kpackagekit / Synaptic / Apt
don't see any package by that name after updating. I found it on
launchpad, but https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-wacom
looks like it is only used to build xserver-xorg-input-wacom, which I
already had installed.

So does this mean I already have xf86-input-wacom? Is there something
else I need to do to try it? Does this new system need a .fdi file?

screen. This is with a clean installation with no additional packages

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477099] Re: Upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10 breaks the driver for Genius G-Pen M712 Tablet

2010-01-29 Thread Ahmed Kamal
Understood, but it is unfortunate that ubuntu doesn't care about fixing
what it broke just becuse it is from 3rd party, while in the same time
doesn't provide any other alternatives. That driver was the only
solution we found to operate our tablets on ubuntu and based on that I
made the decision to move our creative desktops to ubuntu from windows
in an experimental transition, I believe until ubuntu figures a reliable
solution that doesn't break between upgrades we will just revert back to
windows. Thank you for you time hope enhancing your tablet support
would be on your priorities at some point.

interesting. the freeze looked like the ones i have been having except
when testing keys (i check the numlock or caps to check for keyboard
activity) the screen went black and the mouse turned to a wheel for a

should i test the system without the ppa packages ?

2010-01-29 Thread Peter Belew
Also see bug #508456 regarding upstart problems on this laptop, which
may be related to these display driver problems.

Current issues remaining are:

Unusable consoles - colored gibberish on the screen.
Starting up in graphics mode results in wrong resolution,
without an xorg.conf file. Having xorg.conf, or setting res.
with SystemPreferencesDisplay dialog fixes final
Gnome res. - but xorg.conf needed to have right res. for
login screen.
Starting up in recovery (text) mode results in text
display with too many lines - new lines are entered off
(below) the visible screen.
Unreliable start up (may be upstart bug)
Totally blank screen for extended time during boot - no background.
During shutdown, flashing colored screen (as with tty consoles)
