[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 514234] [NEW] Autodetection results in reduced resolutions available - i915
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I'm using a Dell optiplex 760 with an intel i915 chipset. The problem is that xorg *usually* doesn't recognize the screen so it uses a lower resolution 800x600. The only available resolutions are 640x480 and 800x600. Sometimes however the screen is recognized and the resolution is just fine. I haven't been able to find out under what circumstances this happens... My guess is that EDID information is sometimes detected incorrectly... I've tried rebooting Karmic with the kernel parameter modeset=0 and creating an xorg.conf file through X -configure but it doesn't seem to make any difference. It's difficult to form it into a question, if i did it would be why doesn't pm-setup detect my touchscreen? I tried doing a cat /dev/ttyS0-5 to no avail. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 514319] [NEW] Animated mouse pointer disappears some times
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati Ubuntu normally shows an animated mouse pointer to indicate load (similar to the hour glass on Windows). On my Radeon Mobility x1400, this mouse pointer has some strange behaviour sometimes: it is shown for a fraction of a second and then it disappears completely. It is really problematic, since I don't see any mouse pointer unless GNOME switches back to the non-animated arrow pointer. This bug didn't occur in the beginning of my Karmic installation - so I think it emerged after an update one month ago. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 514336] [NEW] Key presses repeat when key is held down does not work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Hi, I'm running Ubuntu Lucid Alpha 2, 64bit with kernel 2.6.32-12-generic. I just noticed that if I press a key, it is not repeated anymore. This behavior is noticed in a terminal: it is impossible to go fast to a certain position. If I go to Keyboard Preferences (Preferences Keyboard), the setting Key presses repeat when key is held down is not ticked. However, if I tick it, holding a key results in only two key strokes. I've attached a video of my touchpad spazzing out as I try moving around with two or three fingers. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477099] Re: Upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10 breaks the driver for Genius G-Pen M712 Tablet
Understood, but it is unfortunate that ubuntu doesn't care about fixing what it broke just becuse it is from 3rd party, while in the same time doesn't provide any other alternatives. That driver was the only solution we found to operate our tablets on ubuntu and based on that I made the decision to move our creative desktops to ubuntu from windows in an experimental transition, I believe until ubuntu figures a reliable solution that doesn't break between upgrades we will just revert back to windows. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid with openchrome driver
Also see bug #508456 regarding upstart problems on this laptop, which may be related to these display driver problems. Current issues remaining are: Unusable consoles - colored gibberish on the screen. Starting up in graphics mode results in wrong resolution, without an xorg.conf file. Having xorg.conf, or setting res. with SystemPreferencesDisplay dialog fixes final Gnome res. - but xorg.conf needed to have right res. for login screen. Starting up in recovery (text) mode results in text display with too many lines - new lines are entered off (below) the visible screen. Unreliable start up (may be upstart bug) Totally blank screen for extended time during boot - no background.
