[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 553200] Re: Mouse and keyboard stop working after selecting user
Same here, I installed nvidia_96 through Jockey today after a buch of updates on a fresh install of Beta 2. nvidia_96 fails to install properly, Then after a reboot, GDM crashes after clicking on a user. GDM restarts after a few seconds. I switched to tty1 and sudo stop gdm && startx. Gnome desktop loads with nvidia accelerated graphics. nvidia module is actually loaded and running. Compiz effects are working. But Jockey still reports that nvidia was disabled. This is my kids computer so I cant expect her to login through the cli so its back to nouveau for now. -- Mouse and keyboard stop working after selecting user https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/553200 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-96 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

First, the 8xx series is not well supported upstream, so here at the distro level in the development version of Ubuntu (i.e. Lucid) our objective is to ensure the system does not crash or freeze. If compiz works, that's great but it's not the same level of seriousness. Second, Jaunty is a stable release and as such only severe issues are taken as SRUs. Compiz not working is not really a severe enough issue to be accepted by the SRU team. Third, even despite the above, there is some value to older bug reports *IF* they define a problem so well that it would serve as reference documentation for other users. However, your bug report has only a two sentence description, and really does not say anything except, "It doesn't work". Maybe what you're looking for is technical support. If so, we have two technical support channels. answers.launchpad.net is the free service, and there is also a paid service. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 558875] Re: compiz broken with latest updates and nvidia display config
True, I can suffer with any other multi-mon mode if I must have Compiz, but I prefer Xinerama. As I said earlier, Compiz has worked with Xinerama on this hardware as recently as Beta 1 + a few days of updates. This incident came from the 20100331.2 daily ISO with updates from the daily firehose. The bug you linked appears to be for nvidia driver 180. I'm using whatever driver is "recommended" by the proprietary drivers window (either 185 or 190, I can't confirm right now). Are we sure this might not be a separate bug? -- compiz broken with latest updates and nvidia display config https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/558875 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 559234] [NEW] compiz assert failure: compiz: ../common/texmem.c:936: get_max_size: Assertion `log2_size != 0' failed.
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: compiz Having just installed Lucid Beta 2 the following happens. When fully booted I have an "X" as a cursor. Opening any application opens without any borders, and puts the menu of the application on top of the Ubuntu desktop menu bar. If the cursor is not within the application, the application is not active. Just moving the cursor over the window makes it active. No mouse button pressing necessary. It is impossible to open a second application up as the desktop menu is completely hidden and the application window can not be moved. This can be resolved by "sudo metacity --replace" but that is necessary on every boot up. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 559603] [NEW] [10.04 regression] user switch leaves original session unusable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg The switch user function worked fine in 9.10 but does not work in 10.04 beta. The session for the user switched to is ok, but you cannot switch back, neither via shutdown menu nor using ctrl+alt+f? hotkeys. Even the text consoles are broken after you switched user once (they work when just one user is logged in). To reproduce: 1) switch to some other user using the "shutdown menu" 2) try to switch back result: screen stays black, but you can reactive the "switched to" user session by ctrl+alt+f? hotkey, text consoles stay black as well expected result: resume the session of the original user, text consoles still usable. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 540547] Re: [Multi-GPU] No virtual terminals on radeon HD 3200/3400
Sorry if this sounds dumb, but why does this bug remain "incomplete"? Which information is missing? And why does it not get assigned to someone? This bug is really a showstopper for anyone with this video card. radeon.modeset=0 also does not work anymore. The main problem is that there is no working text mode at all. That means if anything goes wrong during the text mode only phase of the boot (between grub and kdm/gdm), e.g. a stuck fsck with a question or somesuch, the screen stays dark (or rather looks as if the LCD is melting...) and the system is unusable. The only way out is to reboot - in the example complete the fsck run from a live CD - and reboot again in the hope that the next boot goes through. Any newbie would be totally stuck when this occurs. BTW, I also tested with the mainline kernels from the kernel ppa, but there is no difference. If I can contribute anything to troubleshoot this bug (short of rewriting the code, I only 'speak' Pascal and Basic well enough), would anyone please tell me. First of all do a sudo apt-get autoremove to remove all those packages. A side of that, you appear to have some residuals from the xorg-driver-fglrx package which no longer exists. Try to sudo apt-get purge xorg-driver-fglrx. If that does not work, your package database may be messed up from some previous attempts. You can either manually remove the files / edit the package database at your own risk or simply install a clean beta 2. Anyhow this issue is specific to your installation and not a general issue. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 552782] Re: package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: dpkg-divert: mismatch on package
Please keep in mind that Ubuntu is completely free of charge, and a lot of the work is done by volenteers on their spare time. Downloading a alpha/beta release and reporting bugs is one way a normal user can contribute. If you where looking for a stable system you should have waited for the final release. The fix for this particular bug should be available in the repositories so a simple update/upgrade should do it. -opprinn. melding- Emne: [Bug 552782] Re: package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: dpkg-divert: mismatch on package Fra: J Harpster Dato: 09.04.2010 20:14 I'm going to remove this (beta don't work) until your stable version comes out at the end of the month.Since you can't send me a downloadable fix that doesn't require writing in manually the solution I have no interest in this beta version. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 552782] Re: package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: dpkg-divert: mismatch on package
Some days before I also tried "sudo dpkg-divert --remove --rename --package xorg-driver-fglrx --divert /usr/lib/fglrx/libGL.so.1.2.xlibmesa /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 > /dev/null ", but every time I started a OGL application I got a memory error. I upgraded my packages today, installed "fglrx, fglrx-amdcccle" and used "sudo aticonfig --initial". Now the bug is gone and OpenGL works fine again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556782] Re: [rs690m] Graphics corruption with ati x1200
I have "static", it does not show up on screenshots. Another interesting thing: "static" is dependent on color. There are absolutely no glitches on clean colors (red, green, blue). Corruption begins on tones closer to gray, and on the perfect gray there is the heaviest "static". By gray's lightness: there are no glitches on black, they become visible on gray approximately lighter than 60 (of 256). "static" itself appears white. -- [rs690m] Graphics corruption with ati x1200 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/556782 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
