[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 469700] Re: [Karmic] Can not start tvtime (lacking hardware YUY2 overlay support)
Using nomodeset or i915.modeset=0 on a Dell C400 (82830 / i830 chipset) works fine and the xv interface is available again. It does have the side effect that the boot splash causes a segmentation fault on the console which screws up the font and causes boot delays. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 546871] Re: [i945gm] System freeze induced by Chrome
Ok. There's not a lot to go on in there. Could you please try booting with the “drm.debug=0x06” kernel option - just add this after “quiet splash”. That will make the kernel module much more verbose about what it's doing. Hm. Following the cryptic references in the RH bug, it's possible that there's a kernel commit that would fix this: commit 1cfa49c2f1f3f42cf166438c17dafac577610836 Author: Ben Skeggs bske...@redhat.com Date: Tue Feb 9 16:59:26 2010 +1000 drm/nv50: EVO uses a real ring buffer, not jumps back to start like PFIFO Tested on NV84GL and NV96 with cursor state caching disabled to force lots of EVO use, no problems seen. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 552481] Re: [i845g] Login screen doesn't appear
Using “blacklist=vga16fb” made no difference. The reason ACPI fails on this machine is that the 'extended checksum' field (and the 'length' field for that matter) in the RSDP table is wrong, so it is not being recognised as a valid table. (Incidentally, ACPI works correctly under Windows XP, so I assume XP only validates the original 'checksum' field to determine whether the table is valid. Linux validates the 'extended checksum' field as well if the table is ACPI v. 2+ format.) I have been able to extract the ACPI tables from the BIOS (by amending acpidump from pmtools to ignore the invalid checksum) and the output is attached. ** Attachment added: acpitables.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/43524800/acpitables.txt -- [i845g] Login screen doesn't appear https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/552481 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 513523] Re: [i965] 64 bit Webots simulator freezes system with Intel GM965
@15 Rejecting the Lucid task; this has an easy work-around (using the 32bit version), and we don't seem likely to have a fix in time. Unfortunately this is not true for my special case, since the 32 bit versions has other problems. E.g. you can try to open the projects/contests/nao_robocup/nao2.wbt file with webots and you will get a invalid memory reference (with some ELF64 errors before) tho...@tk-laptop:~/opt/webots32$ ./webots /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgioremote-volume-monitor.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64 Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgioremote-volume-monitor.so /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgvfsdbus.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64 Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgvfsdbus.so /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgiogconf.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64 Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgiogconf.so An invalid memory reference occured. Please report this error to http://www.cyberbotics.com/bug/ This will help us improving this software. Thank you. The invalid memory reference seems to be a bug of Webots, but unfortunally this means it is not usable under Lucid for more complex tasks than a very simple demo behavior without any camera. My statement in the bug description claiming The 32 bit version works fine under the same 64 bit system. just means the rendering is working without freezing the system, not that you have an usable Webots program. -- [i965] 64 bit Webots simulator freezes system with Intel GM965 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/513523 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 516329] Re: TouchPad buttons don't work on HP Mini 210 (1030NR)
@Peter The kernel patch will give you right click while the x patch will give you middle click. This is what I consider bugs which, in my opinion, is something that we can still fix in Lucid (as we're in feature freeze). Anything else (mainly gestures) is a feature and should be implemented upstream (unfortunately I lack the hardware to do so) and of course won't make it into this Ubuntu release cycle. -- TouchPad buttons don't work on HP Mini 210 (1030NR) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/516329 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
I don't expect disabling KMS to help overall. The nature of this bug is that it's timing-dependent, so just about any change can affect the stability for better or worse. On an affected system, I would often get a repeatable freeze on bootup after upgrading an unrelated package just because the new disk layout changed the timing of the boot process. So you might get reports that disabling KMS helps, but I'd expect it to break as many systems as it helps. -- MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541492 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532727] Re: massive flickering of everything but background and netbook-launcher menu
I find all the i915 references a bit confusing, considering that the graphics core is a GMA 4500MHD (mobile version of the GMA X4500). The GMA 4500 is architecturally completely different than the i915 and the differences in terms of features are significant as well. I was under the impression that there was a separate G4x module... Is this a bug? Or just an historical artifact? Regardless, I'll try out the Lucid beta-2 that came out yesterday --- Alright... Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381884] Re: Appletouch touchpad driver produces jumpy two-fingered scrolling
Yeah, my touchpad is borderline unusable compared to our macbook pro with OS X. I get hand cramps if I use the mouse for more than a few minutes. Blaine On Thu, Apr 8, 2010 at 6:49 PM, Olafur Arason olaf...@olafura.com wrote: This is a very serious problem and still in Lucid. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Alberto Milone (albertomilone) -- Appletouch touchpad driver produces jumpy two-fingered scrolling https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381884 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. Status in The Linux Kernel: New Status in Mactel Support: New Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics My system is: Linux richard-laptop 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:58:03 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux. However, this issue applies to at least Intrepid and Jaunty, 32 and 64 bit, running on Apple Mac hardware that uses an Appletouch touchpad. It has also been reported in the Gentoo and Debian forums. From what I can find on the Net, the Appletouch touchpad was first used in February 2005 for the G4 aluminium PowerBook, and last used for the Macbook Pro in its 3rd generation, then 4th generation Intel Macbook in early 2008. The issue is with two-fingered scrolling. The Appletouch features the ability to detect two (or three) touches. OS X uses this feature to enable scrolling, similar to a scrollwheel on a mouse. The synaptics driver causes the simulated scrollwheel to start moving as soon as one places a second finger on the touchpad. That is to say, placing a second finger causes the trackpad driver to deliver scrolling signals, which means that attempts at vertical scrolling feels jumpy, or over sensitive. There was an update to the OS X driver that fixed this situation for Apple. I guess that it detects the second finger and programmatically ignores the first few scrollticks, thereby 'deadening' the output. This is what we need. The synaptics driver allows for some modification, but not for multitouch input. This needs to be fixed at source code level. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508699] Re: [K8M800] Xorg freeze / Kernel 2.6.32-10-generic freeze
Did a lot of additional tests with plain vanilla kernels from kernel.org: none of the 2.6.32-kernels work (2.6.32, 2.6.32.1, 2.6.32.2, ..., 2.6.32.11). All of them are broken on certain hardware. All show the same behavior: if once booted with a working kernel, then rebooting with one of the 2.6.32-series will make X11 work, as far as memory isn't wiped in between. All Ubuntu-kernels I could find within archives show same behavior: they work, as far as a working kernel was booted before (linux-image-2.6.32-15-generic, linux-image-2.6.32-16-generic, linux-image-2.6.32-19-generic). Kernel 2.6.31.13 works, as does 2.6.31.12. The Ubuntu-kernel linux- image-2.6.31-21-generic (linux- image-2.6.31-21-generic_2.6.31-21.59_amd64.deb) works too, regardless what state the system was in before. Kernel series 2.6.33 have some really crucial behavior: booted after switching from a working kernel these do not allow to change resolution! The only resolution seen is the one the system ran at before! If powered on only resolutions up to 800x600 are available. From time to time the system just stops responding, but only if powered on. A hard reset is necessary to make it work again. What exactly caused these hangs I was not able to find out, because there are no log or dmesg-entries which could shade some light on it. Kernel 2.6.34-rc3 works again as 2.6.31.13, 2.6.31.12 and linux- image-2.6.31-21-generic did. Regardless of the state the system was in before. I am using kernel 2.6.34-rc3 from kernel.org at the moment. -- [K8M800] Xorg freeze / Kernel 2.6.32-10-generic freeze https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508699 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 559170] [NEW] [Lucid Beta 2] System unusable with Compiz due to extremely slow redrawing (of menus, window movements, selections...)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon Using a default installation of Lucid Beta 2 (installed onto a USB stick), the system is borderline unusable because of extremely slow visual response. This was the case with a daily build that I tested several days ago, as well as both a default and an up-to-date installation of Beta 2. These issues only happen with Compiz enabled. Clicking on 'Applications' quickly pops up the menu (though not with the smooth fade I've come to expect from Compiz). When I move my mouse from 'Applications' to 'Places,' though, it takes nearly 3 seconds to hide the 'Applications' menu and draw the 'Places' menu. Similarly, attempting to resize or move a window does nothing for the first couple seconds, and when the window does finally move, the redrawing is choppier than an uncomposited Metacity. This is a major regression compared to the Karmic and Jaunty, which both ran Compiz flawlessly out of the box with the default Radeon driver. Disabling Compiz makes the system usable. Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 2 AMD64 Diamond Radeon x1300 If there's more I can do to help, I'd be glad to. I've spent the last several minutes trying to record a video of the problem, but recordMyDesktop keeps crashing. If I can get it to work, I'll post the video here. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: needs-lspci-vvnn needs-xorglog -- [Lucid Beta 2] System unusable with Compiz due to extremely slow redrawing (of menus, window movements, selections...) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/559170 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
