[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556232] Re: Radeon HD 2600 - Dualscreen problem

2010-04-09 Thread Andreas Noteng
Video driver issues should be reported against the driver package so it gets
looked at by the xorg folks.
I'm afraid you'll have to run apport-collect again to make it send the x
related logs/files.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 469700] Re: [Karmic] Can not start tvtime (lacking hardware YUY2 overlay support)

2010-04-09 Thread Allan Smith
Using nomodeset or i915.modeset=0 on a Dell C400 (82830 / i830 chipset) works
fine and the xv interface is available again.
It does have the side effect that the boot splash causes a segmentation fault
on the console which screws up the font and causes boot delays. Removing splash
from the boot line fixes this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 546871] Re: [i945gm] System freeze induced by Chrome

2010-04-09 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Ok. There's not a lot to go on in there. Could you please try booting
with the “drm.debug=0x06” kernel option - just add this after “quiet
splash”.

That will make the kernel module much more verbose about what it's
doing. Hopefully that will give some indication as to what it's doing
when everything seizes up, and we can send this upstream.

Have you tested this on a more recent kernel? This looks quite similar
to a bug which was confirmed fixed in the 2.6.32-19 kernel. That's on
the Beta 2 livecd if you haven't got a Lucid install.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 558657] Re: mouse usage causes Xorg CPU usage to spike, and mouse pointer becomes less responsive

2010-04-09 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hm. Following the cryptic references in the RH bug, it's possible that
there's a kernel commit that would fix this:

commit 1cfa49c2f1f3f42cf166438c17dafac577610836
Author: Ben Skeggs bske...@redhat.com
Date: Tue Feb 9 16:59:26 2010 +1000

drm/nv50: EVO uses a real ring buffer, not jumps back to start like PFIFO

Tested on NV84GL and NV96 with cursor state caching disabled to force
lots of EVO use, no problems seen.

There's been some reports of EVO randomly dying and reporting an error
during cursor state changes for some people, I've been unable to
reproduce on my hardware but hopefully this is the culprit.

Signed-off-by: Ben Skeggs bske...@redhat.com

I thought we had that in our tree, but it seems that we don't.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 557895] Re: Xorg freeze

2010-04-09 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Would it be possible for you to boot without setting nouveau.noaccel=1
and then collecting the relevant logs? Sometimes VT switching still
works, or you can SSH into the system even though X has frozen.

We've got reports of the NVac chips working fine with acceleration, so
there's something different about your case. The logs when everything
has failed might help us determine what.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)

2010-04-09 Thread useResa
Basically I can only confirm wat has been posted recently.
IMHO the i915.modeset=0 option added gives me more headaches than WITHOUT.

Without the option I have currently 1 or 2 hard crashes a day, which is not
pleasant but I can live with it since my desktop is not my production machine.
With the option the situation described above happens and at a much more
frequent rate.

When I put my notebook in docking-station, with secondary monitor attached, I

2010-04-09 Thread Andrew Frank
in karmic: the calibrate_touchscreen.sh is a link to
../lib/xf86-input-evtouch/calibrate.sh
the code there cannot be executed, because
Could not initialise connection to hald.
Normally this means the HAL daemon (hald) is not running or not ready.

and it produces a nice error message

No evtouch capable device found, if you are sure you have
an evtouch capable touchscreen, please mail the resulting file of the command
lshal evtouch_hal.out to the
bug url https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/317094, so support for your device can

i hope this helps in tacking down the problem, which is crucial for
lucid to support touchscreen devices!

thank you

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 553160] Re: Nouveau driver gives illegible screen on Nvidia 7150M (laptop)

2010-04-09 Thread Rogier de Groot
Tried again with beta 2 - initially I had the same problem.
However, after selecting acpi=off, noapci, nolapic and nomodeset
everything looked fine.
Didn't try this with the first beta though, so I don't know if this would have
solved the problem then.

After reboot the screen goes al weird again - text mode screen is really weird
as well.
Adding the mentioned parameters in the GRUB screen fixes the problem long
enough to install the regular nvidia drivers (which permenantly fixes the
issue).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 392825] Re: WALTOP tablets not supported anymore (with quickfix)

2010-04-09 Thread Timo Aaltonen
I've merged the waltop kernel driver functionality with the wacom
driver, but it still needs upstream review and feedback from the vendor
(which is hard, since their email server doesn't accept my emails). The
X driver has a waltop branch which refactors the code to allow other
vendor id's more easily. Note that just changing that one check is _not_
enough.

I can provide the modules/binaries so you can test it, and get the
proper x/y max values from the device.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 552481] Re: [i845g] Login screen doesn't appear

2010-04-09 Thread Simon Lewis
Using “blacklist=vga16fb” made no difference.

The reason ACPI fails on this machine is that the 'extended checksum'
field (and the 'length' field for that matter) in the RSDP table is
wrong, so it is not being recognised as a valid table. (Incidentally,
ACPI works correctly under Windows XP, so I assume XP only validates the
original 'checksum' field to determine whether the table is valid. Linux
validates the 'extended checksum' field as well if the table is ACPI v.
2+ format.)

I have been able to extract the ACPI tables from the BIOS (by amending
acpidump from pmtools to ignore the invalid checksum) and the output is
attached.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in xorg.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 513523] Re: [i965] 64 bit Webots simulator freezes system with Intel GM965

2010-04-09 Thread Thomas Krause
@15

Rejecting the Lucid task; this has an easy work-around (using the
32bit version), and we don't seem likely to have a fix in time.

Unfortunately this is not true for my special case, since the 32 bit
versions has other problems.

E.g. you can try to open the projects/contests/nao_robocup/nao2.wbt file
with webots and you will get a invalid memory reference (with some ELF64
errors before)

tho...@tk-laptop:~/opt/webots32$ ./webots
/usr/lib/gio/modules/libgioremote-volume-monitor.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgioremote-volume-monitor.so
/usr/lib/gio/modules/libgvfsdbus.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgvfsdbus.so
/usr/lib/gio/modules/libgiogconf.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgiogconf.so
An invalid memory reference occured.
Please report this error to http://www.cyberbotics.com/bug/
This will help us improving this software. Thank you.

The invalid memory reference seems to be a bug of Webots, but
unfortunally this means it is not usable under Lucid for more complex
tasks than a very simple demo behavior without any camera.

My statement in the bug description claiming The 32 bit version works
fine under the same 64 bit system. just means the rendering is working
without freezing the system, not that you have an usable Webots program.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 472506] Re: [g45] No DRM, high cpu usage by X on rendering and frequent X crashes on Intel(R) G45/G43 Integrated Graphics Chipset

2010-04-09 Thread Christian
I had the exact same problem on my lenovo X200.
I could solve it by disabling Execution Prevention in the BIOS under Security
- Memory Protection.
After I set it to Disabled, Ubuntu booted again without any problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 516329] Re: TouchPad buttons don't work on HP Mini 210 (1030NR)

2010-04-09 Thread Alberto Milone
@Peter
The kernel patch will give you right click while the x patch will give you
middle click. This is what I consider bugs which, in my opinion, is something
that we can still fix in Lucid (as we're in feature freeze).

Anything else (mainly gestures) is a feature and should be implemented
upstream (unfortunately I lack the hardware to do so) and of course
won't make it into this Ubuntu release cycle.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)

2010-04-09 Thread Brian Rogers
I don't expect disabling KMS to help overall. The nature of this bug is
that it's timing-dependent, so just about any change can affect the
stability for better or worse. On an affected system, I would often get
a repeatable freeze on bootup after upgrading an unrelated package just
because the new disk layout changed the timing of the boot process.

So you might get reports that disabling KMS helps, but I'd expect it to
break as many systems as it helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532727] Re: massive flickering of everything but background and netbook-launcher menu

2010-04-09 Thread fyo
I find all the i915 references a bit confusing, considering that the
graphics core is a GMA 4500MHD (mobile version of the GMA X4500). The
GMA 4500 is architecturally completely different than the i915 and the
differences in terms of features are significant as well. I was under
the impression that there was a separate G4x module...

Is this a bug? Or just an historical artifact?

Regardless, I'll try out the Lucid beta-2 that came out yesterday

---

Alright... The issue with the flickering appears to be resolved in Lucid
beta-2!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 543808] Re: [gm45] blinking display, high CPU utilization by xorg

2010-04-09 Thread Steve Yelvington
Confirmed: The problem does not exist with 2.6.32-19-generic from the Beta 2
install image.
gnome-settings-daemon is running and there is no flicker.

So I suppose this issue can be closed.

Thanks.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Hy.

I ren update-manager -d and received the following two messages in the
'install the upgrades' section of updating ubuntu to 10.04 lucid lynx.

The message provided by the update manager was:

Could not install
'/var/cache/apt/archives/fglrx_2%3a8.721-0ubuntu7_i386.deb'

The upgrade will continue but the
'/var/cache/apt/archives/fglrx_2%3a8.721-0ubuntu7_i386.deb' package may
not be in a working state. Please consider submitting a bug report about
it.

I forgot to copy the rest of the message but as far as I can remember it
was: subprocess returned signal 2

Then it continued to install and after a while a new popup message said:
Could not install 'fglrx'

The upgrade will continue but the 'fglrx' package may not be in a
working state. Please consider submitting a bug report about it.

no package named `fglrx' is installed, cannot configure

System info:
ubuntu 9.10 32bit

computer: dell studio 1535 laptop

hope this helps.

This patch seems to have been revised and ended up commited as the below
commit:

  Author: Alex Deucher alexdeuc...@gmail.com
  Date: Mon Mar 29 21:37:08 2010 -0400

drm/radeon/kms: minor fixes for eDP with LCD* device tags (v2)

Some systems have LCD* rather than DFP* device tags in the bios
for eDP connectors; notably the new apple iMac. This fixes
things up so eDP connectors with either tag will work.

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

My system is: Linux richard-laptop 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr
 17 01:58:03 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux. However, this issue applies to at
least Intrepid and Jaunty, 32 and 64 bit, running on Apple Mac hardware that
uses an Appletouch touchpad. It has also been reported in the Gentoo and
 Debian forums.

From what I can find on the Net, the Appletouch touchpad was first used in
February 2005 for the G4 aluminium PowerBook, and last used for the Macbook
Pro in its 3rd generation, then 4th generation Intel Macbook in early 2008.

The issue is with two-fingered scrolling. The Appletouch features the
ability to detect two (or three) touches. OS X uses this feature to enable
scrolling, similar to a scrollwheel on a mouse.

The synaptics driver causes the simulated scrollwheel to start moving as
soon as one places a second finger on the touchpad. That is to say, placing
a second finger causes the trackpad driver to deliver scrolling signals,
which means that attempts at vertical scrolling feels jumpy, or over
 sensitive.

There was an update to the OS X driver that fixed this situation for Apple.
I guess that it detects the second finger and programmatically ignores the
first few scrollticks, thereby 'deadening' the output. This is what we
 need.

The synaptics driver allows for some modification, but not for multitouch
input. This needs to be fixed at source code level.

 Richard

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 559141] [NEW] Matrox MGA G200 AGP plays video only occasionally

2010-04-09 Thread Jarno Suni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-mga

Usually the video window is just black. Changing the active program to
be other than the player (totem-gstreamer) may enable video playback. I
did test with a live CD and an LCD monitor that works fine with other
hardware. IRRC the same graphics card with an older ubuntu and a CRT
monitor did some kind of flashing (or dark frames) while video playback.

That was leftovers from when I helped test the nouveau driver before it was
included by default in lucid. Removed the xorg-edgers repository and ran an
update/upgrade today and things seems to be fixed. Thanks.

Thanks for your e-mail - I'm really grateful that this driver is getting
the attention it needs, I would be very interested to try out the
binaries/modules.

Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508699] Re: [K8M800] Xorg freeze / Kernel 2.6.32-10-generic freeze

2010-04-09 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Did a lot of additional tests with plain vanilla kernels from kernel.org:
none of the 2.6.32-kernels work (2.6.32, 2.6.32.1, 2.6.32.2, ..., 2.6.32.11).
All of them are broken on certain hardware. All show the same behavior: if once
booted with a working kernel, then rebooting with one of the 2.6.32-series will
make X11 work, as far as memory isn't wiped in between.
All Ubuntu-kernels I could find within archives show same behavior: they work,
as far as a working kernel was booted before (linux-image-2.6.32-15-generic,
linux-image-2.6.32-16-generic, linux-image-2.6.32-19-generic).

Kernel 2.6.31.13 works, as does 2.6.31.12. The Ubuntu-kernel linux-
image-2.6.31-21-generic (linux-
image-2.6.31-21-generic_2.6.31-21.59_amd64.deb) works too, regardless
what state the system was in before.

Kernel series 2.6.33 have some really crucial behavior: booted after
switching from a working kernel these do not allow to change resolution!
The only resolution seen is the one the system ran at before! If powered
on only resolutions up to 800x600 are available. From time to time the
system just stops responding, but only if powered on. A hard reset is
necessary to make it work again. What exactly caused these hangs I was
not able to find out, because there are no log or dmesg-entries which
could shade some light on it.

Kernel 2.6.34-rc3 works again as 2.6.31.13, 2.6.31.12 and linux-
image-2.6.31-21-generic did. Regardless of the state the system was in
before.

I am using kernel 2.6.34-rc3 from kernel.org at the moment.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 559170] [NEW] [Lucid Beta 2] System unusable with Compiz due to extremely slow redrawing (of menus, window movements, selections...)

2010-04-09 Thread Michael Martin-Smucker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon

Using a default installation of Lucid Beta 2 (installed onto a USB
stick), the system is borderline unusable because of extremely slow
visual response. This was the case with a daily build that I tested
several days ago, as well as both a default and an up-to-date
installation of Beta 2. These issues only happen with Compiz enabled.

Clicking on 'Applications' quickly pops up the menu (though not with the
smooth fade I've come to expect from Compiz). When I move my mouse from
'Applications' to 'Places,' though, it takes nearly 3 seconds to hide
the 'Applications' menu and draw the 'Places' menu. Similarly,
attempting to resize or move a window does nothing for the first couple
seconds, and when the window does finally move, the redrawing is
choppier than an uncomposited Metacity.

This is a major regression compared to the Karmic and Jaunty, which both
ran Compiz flawlessly out of the box with the default Radeon driver.
Disabling Compiz makes the system usable.

Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 2
AMD64
Diamond Radeon x1300

If there's more I can do to help, I'd be glad to. I've spent the last
several minutes trying to record a video of the problem, but
recordMyDesktop keeps crashing. If I can get it to work, I'll post the
video here.
