[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549727] Re: [10.04] Touchpad stops working after login
The file in the workaround does not exist. In Lucid, apparently, that file has been judged obsolete and been removed. There's probably a file which does the same, or some other workaround that will do this every boot. I attached an .sh file for the convenience, and I changed 'sudo' to 'gksudo' so you'll get a graphical interface question for the root password instead of a commandline version. You can download it in your /home directory, and make it run every boot by going to System - Preferences - Startup Applications and click on 'Add'. Type anything in the name section, and type this command in the command section: sh ~/workaround.sh I don't know whether this works though. I don't have this bug anymore for some strange reason (without workaround). So I can't test it... And again, the workaround is not mine. ** Attachment added: workaround http://launchpadlibrarian.net/45909624/workaround.sh -- [10.04] Touchpad stops working after login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/549727 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 367776] Re: Kubuntu 9.04 + Radeon X1300 - No dual monitor option in system settings (dual-head)
Testing Kubuntu 10.04 RC (386 desktop CD image), live session behaviour: driver [OK] KDE4 system settings - Display: default: cloned view [OK ? I would prefer dual view, but cloned is probably more safe for live session.] after changing position of the secondary output from cloned to Right of and clicking Apply, it doesn't set up. [BUG] after changing position of secondary + refresh rate (from 72Hz to Auto) and clicking Apply, it does set up dual monitor desktop [OK] (looks like the position-only change gets somewhat ignored by apply) The second menu in display options (something about big virtual desktop over several monitors, but can't recall the exact name) still insists I don't use such setup (although it's already working well). Anyway, I find everything important already in the first display settings menu, so I'm not sure what's that second thing good for. Some unimplemented feature of upstream or something obsolete? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 559883] Re: lucid beta-2 X crashes with dual head configuration when opengl is enabled with intel GM945
@Paul David Johnson Confirm this. Former intel graphic drivers supported a maximum framebuffer size from 2048x2048. Since the new kernel based modesetting drivers were introduced the maximum framebuffer size is 4096x4096, witch is enough for my 3200x1600 (2x 1600x1200) screen. So it doesn't wounder that the desktop effects and opengl didn't work with the old drivers, but why doesn't it work today, when the framebuffer is large enough? Are there any further hardware limitations? Can't believe this - the Microsoft driver works ... Compositing itself is not the problem as switching from opengl (hardware redndering) to xrender (software rendering) leads to all the desktop effects working with dualhead setup - but a very, very slow system ... My suggestion is to search a bug that effects the opengl system and the intel graphic driver. If I can help anyway please let me know! Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 527149] Re: Karmic + NVIDIA cause screen flickering, X crashes and video playback problems
Hi Jeremy. Thanks for your email. I definitely intend to test this with new versions of Ubuntu, and I would love to assist you guys to solve this issue. I was waiting for the first official release of Lucid that's supposed to come out tomorrow (the 29th). I am now using the nv alternative video driver, and I'm pretty sure once I switch back to NVidia the bug will come back. Before upgrading to Lucid, would it be helpful it I run 'apport-collect -p linux 527149' with my current version of Karmic and post the results? Also, about upstream testing - should I do it before or after having upgraded to Lucid? And once I upgrade to Lucid, won't I already have the latest kernel version? If not - then what's the right order to do things? Thanks again, Tal On Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 12:04 AM, Jeremy Foshee jeremy.fos...@canonical.com wrote: Hi Tal, This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 527149 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Yesterday I upgraded from Ubuntu Jaunty to Karmic, and now I'm experiencing the following problem: After logging in to the system, the screen randomly flickers, and at a certain point, one of the two things happen: 1. The X screen gets scrambled and freezes. Only the mouse can sometimes move. Sometimes I can escape this situation by pressing CTRL-ALT-1, and then returning to the regular display with CTRL-ALT-7, which causes a small temporary improvement. In other times, even pressing CTRL-ALT-1 cannot get me out of this, and the computer is completely stuck. 2. X crashes, and the GDM login screen appears. The time it takes for the session to hang varies. It can be anything between 1 minute to 30 minutes and on rare times even longer. The time duration does NOT depend on whether I'm using Compiz or not, and whether sound is being played or not. However, I think that actions which cause the window manager to work harder (e.g. opening / moving windows) can make the problem appear sooner. The second problem is that video playback fails - the video is first played correctly and after a few seconds sound stops and the playback gradually slows down until it completely stops. It happens to me in SMplayer. I'm not sure whether I tried it with other players as well. This happens in many video formats. These two problems share the following characteristics: - They started right after upgrading from Jaunty to Karmic. - They happen both when I use the NVIDIA driver from the repository (185) or the driver I downloaded from the NVIDIA site (190). - They don't happen when I use the nv video driver, or when I start Ubuntu in reduced graphics mode (by uninstalling the NVIDIA driver). I am using the following software and hardware: HP Pavilion dv5 with Intel Core 2 Duo NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, propietry driver v190.53 / v185.something Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala Other links that discuss what seems to be the same problem: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1329698 (Karmic: Screen scramble and freezes) http://ohioloco.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1309015 (Random freezing in 9.10 Karmic) http://www.econowics.com/linux/326/video-playback-freeze-every-few-seconds-minutes-on-ubuntu/ (Video Playback Freeze Every Few Seconds / Minutes on Ubuntu) Thanks, Tal To unsubscribe from this bug, go to:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570897] Re: [rv200 kms] Picks wrong preferred mode - Garbled if changed
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati On Lucid RC live cd. When KMS enabled (it is by default) Booting up results in my external 1680x1050 lcd monitor runs at 1152x864 mode. My LCD is connected to dvi port of laptop. LVDS runs at mode 1400x1050. running: xrandr --output LVDS --off xrandr --output DVI-0 --auto result in LCD running correct resolution 1680x1050 but garbled and totally unreadable. Booting with radeon.modeset=0 solves this. Conclusion: KMS problem. + --- + Architecture: i386 + CurrentDmesg: + [ 51.907181] psmouse serio2: ID: 10 00 64 + [ 55.134908] IBM TrackPoint firmware: 0x0e, buttons: 3/3 + [ 55.351681] input: TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint as /devices/platform/i8042/serio1/serio2/input/input12 + [ 60.788036] eth0: no IPv6 routers present + [ 60.870019] ttyS1: LSR safety check engaged! + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 + DkmsStatus: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory + LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release i386 (20100427.1) + MachineType: IBM 2374ZEP + Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.13.0-1ubuntu5 + PackageArchitecture: i386 + PccardctlIdent: + Socket 0: +no product info available + Socket 1: +no product info available + PccardctlStatus: + Socket 0: +no card + Socket 1: +no card + ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/casper/vmlinuz noprompt cdrom-detect/try-usb=true persistent file=/cdrom/preseed/hostname.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet splash -- debian-installer/language=da console-setup/layoutcode?=dk + ProcEnviron: + LANG=da_DK.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-21.32-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 + Tags: lucid lucid + Uname: Linux 2.6.32-21-generic i686 + UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lpadmin plugdev sambashare + dmi.bios.date: 07/27/2005 + dmi.bios.vendor: IBM + dmi.bios.version: 1RETDLWW (3.17 ) + dmi.board.name: 2374ZEP + dmi.board.vendor: IBM + dmi.board.version: Not Available + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information + dmi.chassis.type: 10 + dmi.chassis.vendor: IBM + dmi.chassis.version: Not Available + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnIBM:bvr1RETDLWW(3.17):bd07/27/2005:svnIBM:pn2374ZEP:pvrThinkPadT42:rvnIBM:rn2374ZEP:rvrNotAvailable:cvnIBM:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: + dmi.product.name: 2374ZEP + dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T42 + dmi.sys.vendor: IBM + glxinfo: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory + system: + distro: Ubuntu + codename: lucid + architecture: i686 + kernel: 2.6.32-21-generic ** Attachment added: BootDmesg.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/45985319/BootDmesg.txt -- [rv200 kms] Picks wrong preferred mode - Garbled if changed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570897 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
