[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570879] Re: OpenGL graphic errors in google earth

2010-07-28 Thread madbiologist
However, it would be good to see if this bug is fixed in gallium3D.
Gallium3D may be the default in mesa 7.9 for older radeon cards - see
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=ati_r300g_june2&num=1

Gallium3D for newer radeon cards is still some way off, although it has
recently reached the glxgears milestone - see
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=ODQ0Mw and
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=ODQ1Mg

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 377931] Re: Black margin on the left of the screen with geode driver

2010-07-28 Thread Hunk Cui
Hi, Julien,
As you said "using a 640x480 resolution on a 5 inches touch screen panel",
Can you try to use 800x600 or 1024x768? What is your screen proportion(4:3 or
16:9?) ?

Thanks,
Hunk Cui

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570879] Re: OpenGL graphic errors in google earth

2010-07-28 Thread madbiologist
Nice find Reynaldo. I've added myself to the cc list for that bug.
However it must be a different bug than this one, for two reasons.
Firstly, the description is quite different to the screenshots linked in
this bug. Secondly, that bug is when using gallium3D. Ubuntu 10.04
"Lucid Lynx" is not using gallium3D - it is using the classic mesa3D
driver instead.

Marking as incomplete/wishlist. I'd like to know how this will affect

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 587710] Re: if FF wit lot Gif & overloading CPU then X-boom to login

2010-07-28 Thread Kangarooo
with last comment i meant that system on freezing with sarvatt`s script
makes freeze close and reopen xorg.. without running that script xorg
freezes and only restart helps. that comment doesnt means all is
solved.. it means that debug script running makes xorg reopen on freeze
(that is better then to restart..)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585462] Re: [GT216] random interface freeze

2010-07-28 Thread Robert Hooker
If you can try nouveau again, does booting with nouveau.noaccel=1 added
to the kernel command line in grub fix it?

This seems to be related to this problem:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26980#c25

** Summary changed:

- random interface freeze
+ [GT216] random interface freeze

** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #26980
   http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26980

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Incomplete

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

I have used 9.10 and earlier releases on this hardware daily with no
problems, but after an upgrade to 10.04 I experience the following
problem once for every several hours that I use the machine. There is
no specific trigger that causes it. The symptoms are that suddenly the
keyboard becomes unresponsive. This includes low-level features like
activation of the CapsLock indicator light, though Alt+SysRq+o is
effective. I am able to move the mouse pointer, but mouse clicks have
no effect. There is no corruption of the display. I am able to SSH in
to the system, and when I do I notice that xorg is at 100% CPU usage. I
have found nothing in any log that indicates a problem, but perhaps you
will be able to do so.

This is likely related to other recent bugs such as
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
ati/+bug/577236 but I have filed a separate report because my symptoms
are not exactly the same as any other report. (For example, I am using
  neither ATI hardware nor compositing.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes

2010-07-28 Thread Conor Moran
Well - as mentioned earlier - I was having problems earlier with
random/sporadic "Black Screens".
Based on threads etc. I suspected problems with video drivers and intel
chiopset.

Anyhow I had reproducible test case (System > Admin > System Testing >
Video tests => Crash)

After trying out a lot of fixes (new kernels yadda yadda) I finally bit
the bullet and went back to ubuntu 9.10.

So far stable. I tried the video tests, but the part where it cycles
thru different resolution modes -where it usually crashed- is not in
9.10 so nothing definite at this point.

I notice my xserver-xorg-video-intel is version 2:2.9.0-1lubunt2
I might try to install that particular driver on ubuntu 10.04 at some point
(when I have time) to see what happens.

In the mean time, I'll see how stable this baby is running on my dell
optiplex gx260 Pentium 4.

(Given I ran it successfully in past with win XP/wubi I'm hopeful)

Seems to me like this thread is capturing information about a lot of
different bugs and I have to say I'm really disappointed and
disillusioned with ubuntu (esp. stability) at this point. Considering
going to "rock solid" debianthis baby seems a helluva lot worse for
crashing than windows 95 ever was.

BTW: I'm loathe to ever take an update again I'm relative new to
linux - my initial dabblings were very favorable but Ubuntu 10.04 seems
to fall over more often than a drunken toddler!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 366971] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 has problems recognizing USB HUB

2010-07-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello,

In Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 edition I got a problem with the Hub USB that I've
plugged in to the laptop -to avoid having a lot of cables all around.

I've plugged in to the Hub a keyboard, mouse (and joystick).

When starting Grub, the light of the Hub does not turn-on and it do not
work the keyboard nor mouse, so I cannot choose which OS I want to
start, either Vista or Ubuntu. So I have to go to the keyboard included
into the laptop and the touchpad.

A curious thing: When restarting from Vista, the Hub worked nicely since
the beginning, but if restarting the laptop from Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64. . it
didn't.

Sometimes the keyboard does not work and it does not write in Ubuntu
9.04 AMD64 even once the OS has started.

I have a HP 6735b Turion x2 ZM-80 AMD64, with 2 Gb RAM and a 160 Gb hard
drive.

The Hub USB it's a 2.0 compliant from Soyntec model NEXOOS 371 (special for
laptops and Linux compatible, they say).

It's a pity, because Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 it's SO FAST. . It's quite faster than
Ubuntu 9.04 i386 I have just installed after that. . and better I do not
comment about Vista's speed.

Ubuntu 9.04 i386 and the previous 8.10 (also its i386 version) both work
OK with the Hub USB.

Regards,
Victor

It occurred when resuming from suspend, with most of the devices
unplugged. Yesterday it wouldn't unsuspend at all when the devices that

I suspect the Logitech AudioHub, as it has been plagued with issues for
a couple of years now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574781] Re: NEC XV17 1280x960 resolution can't be set

2010-07-28 Thread Kris Holt
Lucky me, I struck gold!

Here's the solution...

Within /etc/X11/xorg.conf change the following line

Virtual 1280 960

to

Virtual 1920 1200

to increase monitor resolution selections offered within the Gnome
Monitor settings.

HERE's the GOLD

Add this line

Driver "nv"

after the line

Identifier "Configured Video Device"

The use of the nv graphics device driver and the Virtual setting lets my
old monitor trace to orgasmic highs!!!

The bug does still occur with today's ppa, 2.6.35-999 Wed July 28. I
did re-verify Alpha 1 2.6.34-5-generic still boots O.K. in KMS mode
with the same xorg and all the other maverick updates up to July 27 so
it would appear to be a kernel bug.

Alpha 2, kernels since, and today's ppa requires radeon.modeset=0 in the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes

2010-07-28 Thread Phil Spencer
I have a dual monitor setup for a docked Dell latitude D630 which
experiences frequent X freezes. 95% of the time my mouse input still
works, i cannot type anywhere in X however I can ctrl alt f1 into a
console and restart gdm. The other 5% of the time it is a full freeze
and requires power off

Most of the time the issue occurs when I am running the VMware View Open
Client and I can clicking from View into something else on my desktop.
The issue happened more frequently when this program was run in a window
(5 times a day average) but now I run the application in fullscreen and
it occurs maybe once a week.

It has also happened without View running and without being docked but
far less frequent.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 349229] Re: [RV350] system freeze randomly unless XAA used

2010-07-28 Thread pedro_magalhaes86
I believe I have similar problem with my laptop, a LG LW65 Express. I am
using Ubuntu 10.04 and it works fine, but sometimes the screen goes
black and the system simply doesn't respond, requiring a so called hard
reset. My VGA card is an ATI x700 mobility. In my opinion, the crashes
are completely random. They don't happen because I start an extremely
demanding application, they come out of nowhere.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 404331] Re: X locks up when scrolling on Radeon Mobility M6 LY

2010-07-28 Thread Cedders
A little more information in case it gives any clues:

As well as the 3 scenarios above (triggering under identical conditions as far
as I can see), there is a fourth after all:

d) As a) but the screen blanks. That is, there is a momentary pause, the
screen goes entirely black, but I am able to (say) Ctrl+Alt+F1, llogin and sudo
reboot.

So the screen blanking is a random event happening in about 25% of
cases. Type a) is probably more common than the others.

I'm attaching a drawing of what the might happen to the scrollbar in the
application window when the freeze happens. There are black horizonal
bars across the scrollbar, with a further few white pixels immediately
below, and sometimes the status line is corrupted. As I mention, any
screenshot I can produce is corrupted.

If I restart gdm (and/or X) from the console after the freeze, I get the
fade into the greeter background (the brown ubuntu spotlight) but the
login dialogue is not drawn (usually that space is occupied by a faded
version of whatever was on the screen before the gdm restart). So it's
similar to the situation after the freeze in a) before restarting gdm:
the background is drawn correctly, but any other windows cannot be
written. I'm pretty sure that if I could change the video mode (to
text, say, and back again), gdm would display correctly. Is there any
way to do this - resizecons or xvidtune don't seem to help?

If I comment the Option "DRI" "false" workaround (which seemed to work
for lucid), and enable Compiz, visual effects seem to work correctly
until the freeze. It's fairly easy now to reproduce a freeze: turn
visual effects no normal or high, visit a page like this in Epiphany and
scroll down - I can scroll down a page or two before the freeze. Also,
when this happens it seems Compiz crashes because the title bars
disappear.

Very little is logged about the problem in Xorg.0.log (I've just added
-logverbose to
/etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc in case that helps.)

Once it's got into this state (a), switching with Ctrl+Alt and back
again to the frozen Xorg gives:

(II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch
[dix] couldn't enable device 9
[dix] couldn't enable device 9
[dix] couldn't enable device 9
[dix] couldn't enable device 9
[dix] couldn't enable device 9
(II) Open ACPI successful (/var/run/acpid.socket)
(II) AIGLX: Resuming AIGLX clients after VT switch

but of course I'm still in the state of having X frozen with only the
cursor working.

I seem to have a queer version of the random freezes case. My desktop
freezes (except for being able to open a terminal through the keyboard
shortcut) ONLY when I use keyboard shortcuts that I have assigned to
control the volume and when rhythmbox is running. It freezes rhythmbox
and firefox and many other windows (can't seem to find a pattern as to
which here) and when I kill rhythmbox the freeze is gone.

2010-07-28 Thread Max Jonas Werner
This bug is absolutely annoying and implicitly also a security issue
since I'm using apw's kernel mentioned as a workaround, so I'm not able
to fetch security updates to the kernel. (workaround no. 2 is not an
option since battery life is important to me.)

Is there a good reason for not including the patches from apw's kernel
into the official ubuntu kernels to make the flicker disappear?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574045] [NEW] Ubuntu hang on startup (may be kms or nouveau problem)

2010-07-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When i start Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64 desktop livecd (same on installed
system), system just hang. It seems that it load something, and i see
black screen at this moment(2-3 seconds). Then, my monitor goes into
