However, it would be good to see if this bug is fixed in gallium3D. Nice find Reynaldo. I've added myself to the cc list for that bug. However it must be a different bug than this one, for two reasons. Firstly, the description is quite different to the screenshots linked in this bug. Secondly, that bug is when using gallium3D. Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" is not using gallium3D - it is using the classic mesa3D driver instead. -- OpenGL graphic errors in google earth https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570879 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

If you can try nouveau again, does booting with nouveau.noaccel=1 added to the kernel command line in grub fix it? There is no specific trigger that causes it. The symptoms are that suddenly the keyboard becomes unresponsive. This includes low-level features like activation of the CapsLock indicator light, though Alt+SysRq+o is effective. I am able to move the mouse pointer, but mouse clicks have no effect. There is no corruption of the display. I am able to SSH in to the system, and when I do I notice that xorg is at 100% CPU usage. I have found nothing in any log that indicates a problem, but perhaps you will be able to do so. This is likely related to other recent bugs such as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- ati/+bug/577236 but I have filed a separate report because my symptoms are not exactly the same as any other report. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
Well - as mentioned earlier - I was having problems earlier with random/sporadic "Black Screens". Based on threads etc. I suspected problems with video drivers and intel chiopset. Anyhow I had reproducible test case (System > Admin > System Testing > Video tests => Crash) After trying out a lot of fixes (new kernels yadda yadda) I finally bit the bullet and went back to ubuntu 9.10. So far stable. I tried the video tests, but the part where it cycles thru different resolution modes -where it usually crashed- is not in 9.10 so nothing definite at this point. I notice my xserver-xorg-video-intel is version 2:2.9.0-1lubunt2 I might try to install that particular driver on ubuntu 10.04 at some point (when I have time) to see what happens. In the mean time, I'll see how stable this baby is running on my dell optiplex gx260 Pentium 4. (Given I ran it successfully in past with win XP/wubi I'm hopeful) Seems to me like this thread is capturing information about a lot of different bugs and I have to say I'm really disappointed and disillusioned with ubuntu (esp. stability) at this point. Considering going to "rock solid" debianthis baby seems a helluva lot worse for crashing than windows 95 ever was. BTW: I'm loathe to ever take an update again I'm relative new to linux - my initial dabblings were very favorable but Ubuntu 10.04 seems to fall over more often than a drunken toddler! -- Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585765 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 366971] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 has problems recognizing USB HUB
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hello, In Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 edition I got a problem with the Hub USB that I've plugged in to the laptop -to avoid having a lot of cables all around. I've plugged in to the Hub a keyboard, mouse (and joystick). When starting Grub, the light of the Hub does not turn-on and it do not work the keyboard nor mouse, so I cannot choose which OS I want to start, either Vista or Ubuntu. So I have to go to the keyboard included into the laptop and the touchpad. A curious thing: When restarting from Vista, the Hub worked nicely since the beginning, but if restarting the laptop from Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64. . it didn't. Sometimes the keyboard does not work and it does not write in Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 even once the OS has started. I have a HP 6735b Turion x2 ZM-80 AMD64, with 2 Gb RAM and a 160 Gb hard drive. The Hub USB it's a 2.0 compliant from Soyntec model NEXOOS 371 (special for laptops and Linux compatible, they say). It's a pity, because Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 it's SO FAST. . It's quite faster than Ubuntu 9.04 i386 I have just installed after that. . and better I do not comment about Vista's speed. Ubuntu 9.04 i386 and the previous 8.10 (also its i386 version) both work OK with the Hub USB. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 404331] Re: X locks up when scrolling on Radeon Mobility M6 LY
A little more information in case it gives any clues: As well as the 3 scenarios above (triggering under identical conditions as far as I can see), there is a fourth after all: d) As a) but the screen blanks. That is, there is a momentary pause, the screen goes entirely black, but I am able to (say) Ctrl+Alt+F1, llogin and sudo reboot. So the screen blanking is a random event happening in about 25% of cases. Type a) is probably more common than the others. I'm attaching a drawing of what the might happen to the scrollbar in the application window when the freeze happens. There are black horizonal bars across the scrollbar, with a further few white pixels immediately below, and sometimes the status line is corrupted. As I mention, any screenshot I can produce is corrupted. If I restart gdm (and/or X) from the console after the freeze, I get the fade into the greeter background (the brown ubuntu spotlight) but the login dialogue is not drawn (usually that space is occupied by a faded version of whatever was on the screen before the gdm restart). So it's similar to the situation after the freeze in a) before restarting gdm: the background is drawn correctly, but any other windows cannot be written. I'm pretty sure that if I could change the video mode (to text, say, and back again), gdm would display correctly. Is there any way to do this - resizecons or xvidtune don't seem to help? If I comment the Option "DRI" "false" workaround (which seemed to work for lucid), and enable Compiz, visual effects seem to work correctly until the freeze. It's fairly easy now to reproduce a freeze: turn visual effects no normal or high, visit a page like this in Epiphany and scroll down - I can scroll down a page or two before the freeze. Also, when this happens it seems Compiz crashes because the title bars disappear. Very little is logged about the problem in Xorg.0.log (I've just added -logverbose to /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc in case that helps.) Once it's got into this state (a), switching with Ctrl+Alt and back again to the frozen Xorg gives: (II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch [dix] couldn't enable device 9 [dix] couldn't enable device 9 [dix] couldn't enable device 9 [dix] couldn't enable device 9 [dix] couldn't enable device 9 (II) Open ACPI successful (/var/run/acpid.socket) (II) AIGLX: Resuming AIGLX clients after VT switch but of course I'm still in the state of having X frozen with only the cursor working. -- X locks up when scrolling on Radeon Mobility M6 LY https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I seem to have a queer version of the random freezes case.
