[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574069] Re: [Lucid] Loading nvidia-settings hurts compiz performance
Hello, The following worked for me. aptitude install libgnome-window-settings1=1:2.30.0-0ubuntu4 I didn't try any of the other fixes. I am on an Asus UL80JT with integrated Geforce 310M and Core i3 running Lucid x64. Stock kernels and everything. After that command and a reboot, compiz acts like it should. Super smooth. -- [Lucid] Loading nvidia-settings hurts compiz performance https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574069 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

A real fix was posted for the invisible cursor issue, so I incorporated it into linux-image-2.6.35-ppa21+v9patch-generic (building now). As for the periodic freezing issue, that is covered by this bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29536 The patches there don't apply cleanly to 2.6.35, so I'll have to look at them before I include them in a graphics-fixes kernel. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #29536 http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29536 -- MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
My shadow branch PPA is now obsolete because the code was committed upstream. So now you only need xorg-edgers and the xorg.conf changes to enable a shadow buffer. Jean-Marie, do you observe the glxinfo-triggered segfault if you remove my shadow branch PPA and switch the xserver-xorg-video-intel package back to the version in xorg-edgers? You can select the package in synaptic and choose 'Package - Force version' to change back. If you still experience a crash from glxinfo after making that change and restarting, then go ahead and file a new bug for it and post the link here, and I'll take a look at it. -- MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541492 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel This is a MASTER bug report, i.e. not a real bug report, but a tool to help manage other bug reports. Most bug reports on i855 are probably due to the CPU/GPU incoherency problem that is now consolidated upstream at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27187 (which was split off from a bug report for i845). For now, we mark all automatically reported GPU lockups on i855 as duplicates of this unless there is a reason not to. A kernel with the proposed fix is available at https://launchpad.net /~brian-rogers/+archive/graphics-fixes To use this fixed kernel, run the following commands: sudo apt-add-repository ppa:brian-rogers/graphics-fixes sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade - sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.35-ppa20+v9patch-generic + sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.35-ppa21+v9patch-generic There is a similar master bug report for i845 at bug 541492. -- MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573101] Re: No video signal after Log out in gnome when multiple users
@Igor Wojnicki I got 195 when I switched the driver from 173 to 'latest version' in the hardware driver dialogue, (under the Administration menu) doing that, downloaded and installed the driver itself, you then press Activate, then restart your computer. You can then check the version by opening the terminal and typing 'nvidia-settings'. I does not appear as 195 in the drivers dialogue, it just shows as 'latest version' (why they couldn't add the version number here is beyond me). There is no need to look into the ubuntu repos, I can only assume its downloaded from a Nvidia repo, not Ubuntu's? (I'm only guessing here, as like you say, its not in the Ubuntu ones). Hope this helps. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 637430] [NEW] Magic Trackpad should default to evdev instead of synaptics
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev The Apple Magic Trackpad is currently grabbed by the X synaptics input module. To enable multitouch support in Maverick, it needs to be grabbed by the X evdev input module. An extra file (/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/60-magictrackpad.conf) with an appropriate InputSection would correct this issue. The Magic Trackpad can be singled out so that the change does not affect any other trackpads. This bug is dependent on bug 628214. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 629711] Re: [Maverick] Removing external display on Vostro 3500 corrupts the screen
Looks like the kernel patch just landed upstream in 2.6.36-rc4. It was also Cc'd to upstream stable. I'd hope that it would then be included in the next 2.6.35.5 upstream stable release which would then mean we might get this patch automatically when we rebase to 2.6.35.5. Regardless, I've applied this patch and built a test kernel (see url below). Please test asap and let me know your results so we could possibly apply this as a pre-stable patch if 2.6.35.5 doesn't get released before Maverick kernel freeze on Thurs Sept 16. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
Thank you brian - I've tested your latest kernel and it indeed has fixed the cursor issue. On my machine, the periodic freezing issue from your last kernel is not observed. I've decided to remove the rc6 kernel and run full time on this kernel. Question - what's the chances of the fixes you've got in this new kernel finding its way into maverick? Its a real shame for those i855 users of maverick just using vesa graphics.
