[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656241] Re: Mixxx with ATI graphics card (using FGLRX) crashes Ubuntu

2011-01-11 Thread Phillip Whelan
Follow these steps:

 * Right click the link to the 'mixxx' file I attached and do 'Save as..'. Save
the file to your Desktop.
 * When the download is done look for mixxx on your Desktop, right click it and
click on 'Properties'.
 * Go to the 'Permissions' tab and check 'Allow executing file as program'.

Tell me how that goes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656241] Re: Mixxx with ATI graphics card (using FGLRX) crashes Ubuntu

2011-01-11 Thread mrvica
I want to report a most strange thing. I was one of the first to report
this bug... Since then, I had almost given up on fixing the problem and
used Mixxx either with my drivers uninstalled or waveforms deactivated.
In the meantime, i had to reinstall Ubuntu 10.10, which I did. On the
same hardware, with the same system, program version and the same video
driver, now, everything works perfectly. I mean, it's a good thing :D
But most peculiar...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681054] Re: screen repeatedly goes black for a fraction of a second

2011-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
I notice there is a typo in your xorg.conf:

Option metamodes CRT-0: 1680x1050

You're missing quotes.

Also, you should include an explanation in your bug report why you're
using an xorg.conf, since for this hardware you typically shouldn't need
to use an xorg.conf except in specific circumstances.

Do a 'tail -f /var/log/Xorg.0.log' and check if the file grows each time
the screen blanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687445] Re: The strange white lines appeared on the top of screen

2011-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
Alright, well we're due to get new X bits including a new -ati driver
and mesa within about a week and a half. If it's a driver or mesa issue
(as I suspect at this point), it may magically go away after we update
natty. If not, we can take the bug report upstream at that point.

So, stay tuned for the moment, and please make a note to update and re-
test in a week or two.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 700515] Re: ubuntu-bug xorg_Strange White Lines

2011-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
This does look a lot like a driver bug rather than unity. We'll be
getting a new -ati driver along with lots of other new X bits within a
week and a half or so, which might make the issue go away completely.
If not, we can forward the issue upstream once it's confirmed on the
newer versions.

Meanwhile, could you also collect register dumps before and after?

sudo apt-get install radeontool

After installing it, you run it like this:

avivotool regs all regdump_good.txt
avivotool regs all regdump_broke.txt

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 701160] [NEW] /usr/bin/xterm is not functional in natty

2011-01-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have the latest natty Alpha update, and when I open /usr/bin/xterm
with compiz enabled under the classic Ubuntu Desktop, the xterm opens
up with a title bar and a border, and the test area shows my background
un-obscured. I do not see a shell prompt, and typing exit does not
work in this window. None of the title bar buttons work either. I am
able to raise and lower this window from the task bar, but that is the
only functionality that I can get with this xterm.

Bothe konsole and gnome-terminal appear to function properly.

The hardware is a DELL laptop Latitiude D830 with a:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685682] Re: Unity doesn't work with proprietary ATI drivers, but works with free drivers

2011-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
I couldn't find release notes for the 10.12 catalyst driver online,
however afaik hd4xxx and hd5xxx *should* work with the current natty
setup, so this seems to be a legit bug.

However, note that in the next week or so we'll be uploading a new
xserver which will completely break everything for fglrx, due to abi
incompatibility. So it will be completely broken very soon regardless.

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

intel_ips causes loadavg to be stuck at =1.0
When I run ps, it shows intel_ips in the D state always.

RAOF suggests that re-running the current updates to xorg-edgers (which
has a new mesa 7.10) it should still crash but in a different way (in
the mipmap code, which will be bug #684745 / FDO #32246).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 700331] Re: /usr/lib32/libvdpau_nvidia.so creation failed [PAE]

2011-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
Since you're on i686, /usr/lib32 packages aren't relevant. But it's
weird that it's displaying those warnings, perhaps update-alternatives
is doing something inappropriate.

Looking through the source code, my guess is it has something to do with
the code Alberto recently added for cleaning up diversions.

@Alberto, mind taking a look at this when you get a chance? Maybe the
rules just need to test for lib32 beforehand.

2011-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
Looks like Henrik's deb can be considered a solution to this bug. I
gather it's a kernel patch so reassigning this bug to the kernel.

Henrik, it'd be great if you could post a link to the sources of the
deb, or outline your plan of attack for getting this incorporated into
natty. Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 626974] Re: ABI change in xorg 1.9 breaks legacy nvidia-96 drivers in Maverick

2011-01-11 Thread Jukka Siitari
OK Alberto!

Got Maverick almost working as per instructions of comment #137. Took
a while, though.

There are still some issues in Maverick, however, although they mostly
are not related to this bug. There is one thing, however, which might be
related to the instructions in #137: The Software Sources line has
disappeared from the desktop, ie. from System - Administration. And
because #137 instructs to edit the /etc/apt/sources.list, I wonder if
the disappearance was caused by that. Copying the back-up file back to
sources.list did not help. I can still get to the Software Sources
through Synaptic (Settings - Repositories), but the direct link is
missing.

Thanks anyway!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 686388] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup - Invalid GTT entry during Display B Fetch

2011-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
pschonmann, one of the problems with the bug report is that apport is
collecting your dmesg *after* you've rebooted, which is pretty unuseful;
upstream wants the dmesg from when the system crashed. (Actually it
collects both before and after but it overwrites the data on the second
call.)

I've spoken with pitti about this just now, and he's updating apport to
preserve the original data. So, please update to current natty
tomorrow, and then the next time you see this bug, let apport report it,
and hopefully then it'll include the proper data upstream wants.

Thanks ahead of time!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 696104] Re: nvidia 320m locks up

2011-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thanks for the extra info Alex. Don't worry about the /sys files -
nouveau doesn't actually place anything useful in those files (the
-intel driver puts stuff there in case of gpu, which is probably why it
was recommended to collect it).

The file that we need is the output of 'dmesg' from while the system is
locked up. So either reproduce the lockup or wait until it occurs
again, then ssh into the box and run 'dmesg dmesg.txt' and attach that
file.

Next, after collecting that, please turn off 3D - uninstalling mesa-dri-
experimental is probably the most sure-fire way of doing that - and then
see whether you can reproduce the lock up. Guessing it will not lock up
after that. If it *does*, then we can take the bug to upstream to look
into (they don't yet give support for 3D).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 669417] Re: [Intel GMA500] Visual glitches and crash (Maverick and Natty)

2011-01-11 Thread David Barth
GMA500 doesn't qualify for the kind of HW requirements we defined for
Unity. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopExperienceTeam/UnityHardwareRequirements
for reference.

So, with that said, I think we can drop this bug off the list.

2011-01-11 Thread N7DR
Maverick is now halfway through its cycle of being the latest Kubuntu...
and this bug is still stopping us from upgrading production machines
(for which unofficial workarounds that require removal of core packages
are simply not an option). For months I've been trying to ignore people
imploring us to switch to another distro, but dropping Kubuntu after
many years is beginning to look more and more attractive :-(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 669417] Re: [Intel GMA500] Visual glitches and crash (Maverick and Natty)

2011-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
As per comments #15 and #16 I'm closing bug as won't fix... we know it
is an issue but the Ubuntu-X team does not have plans to enable it for
natty.

Regarding EMGD, since we will be shipping and supporting xserver 1.10
rather than 1.8, we're not going to be able to easily ship that at this
time. There might be some way to jury rig it, but for now I think we'll
wait and see if either an 1.10 compatible version is released by Intel
or Canonical runs into OEM customer requirements for it.

For now, I'd encourage maintaining it in a community PPA. (If you'd
prefer to make it a sub-ppa of xorg-edgers that can be arranged, just
catch Sarvatt or myself on IRC). If anyone figures out a way to get it
working under stock natty xserver and kernel, then that might be
something we could consider for Ubuntu.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 701757] [NEW] Natty Alpha 1 black screen with intel driver

2011-01-11 Thread jerrylamos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

i845G using the ppa from Brian Rogers:
linux-headers-2.6.37-graphics2+12 linux-headers-2.6.37-graphics2+12-generic
linux-image-2.6.37-graphics2+12-generic
see ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1653852

If driver intel is specified in xorg.conf, boots to black screen with
cursor. Desktop dead.

Xorg.0.log and kern.log look O.K.
.xsession-errors shows failures, will attach to subsequent post.
Xorg.0.log.old will show which intel driver was being used.

Removed xorg.conf specifying intel in order to file this ubuntu-bug.

Anything to try or report on?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 701717] Re: 'Mangler' unable to receive mouse input.

2011-01-11 Thread ekilfoil
The xinput package is for the xinput binary program. The reported
problem is not releated to the xinput binary, but is possibly within
Xorg. However, it's more likely that it's a problem with Mangler.
Marking the xinput version of this bug as invalid and I will triage
within Mangler report first.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 379313] Re: Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch) via the nwfermi (proprietary) driver

2011-01-11 Thread djp
Ok I have created a launchpad project for nwfermi
(https://launchpad.net/nwfermi). Future nwfermi releases will be posted
there and anyone interested should be able to post bug reports,
questions, etc.

I havent made much progress with creating a source package for the ppa
yet (the various different tools and methods are overwhelming me!) but
should have a multitouch release ready shortly.

Cheers again for all the help Bryce.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685682] Re: Unity doesn't work with proprietary ATI drivers, but works with free drivers

2011-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
The description of the bug (wallpaper displaying properly, popup notices
showing and hiding properly) indicates that X hasn't crashed or locked
up, and suggest a window manager (compiz) failure. So I'm reassigning
this to compiz for further analysis.

It would probably help if someone could gather a full backtrace (with
line numbers and such). Run compiz in gdb, and then use 'bt full' to
get a full backtrace.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 659434] Re: Font/image corruption after resume from hibernate

2011-01-11 Thread myq
As a followup to my confirmation above, I have found a solution and I
don't experience this problem any more. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what
I did. I didn't change any drivers that I'm aware of. I tried changing
some settings and such, following recommendations I found on the net,
but nothing seemed to work, so I avoided hibernating. Recently I sent
the computer into hibernation mode by accident and upon resume, the
issue was gone. I've since hibernated and resumed many times, including
reboots, and I never have this problem again. I'm sorry I can't tell you
what I did though...
