[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741930] Re: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 778083] Re: Switching workspaces does not always redraw everything necessary
Sven's solution worked for me also, I didn't noticed weird corruptions after replacing the metacity with an older one (10.10). Beside of that, I encounter a pretty similar problem when playing with the tooltip on the 'workspaces' preferences in the bottom right corner of the desktop (see the attached screenshot) - a small purple area remain unrefreshed in the place where the tooltip was raised. Anyone else experience this strange thing ? Sorry if this is not really related to this defect, but this appeared to be fine when replacing the metacity binary. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 564378] Re: Fails to set MTRR for 2D acceleration
aeromojito, sorry if this is a bit late, but, could you try setting: Option OverlayMem100 or if you want more than full dvd resolution (720x576) maybe a bit higher OverlayMem, provided you are able (and willing) to go with modest resolution and/or depth, to make more video ram available and also set your DefaultDepth to 16, or even try 8 ? I believe the X desktop will display in whatever depth you choose, but the video - as it is in an overlay that is managed directly by the video chip - will be in true color. You could even play with mplayer from console (no X needed) ! see: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?p=31808#p31808 So, reducing Resolution (1024x768 or 800x600 ) and/or depth may help, mplayer (or gmplayer if you shall) may also be preferable over vlc / totem in terms of CPU overhead! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-neomagic in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/564378 Title: Fails to set MTRR for 2D acceleration ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 780424] [NEW] Xorg unresponsive after screensaver unlock with Dual Head
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg As background I'm running multi-GPU multi-session multi-head with 3 screens on two NVIDIA GPU Quadro NVS 290 (G86GL) cards (one on one, two on the other). Machine is a quad core with 8G ram and 8G swap. Individual gnome sessions on each screen (ie I can't transfer programs between screens and each screen has full menus). Occasionally after unlocking my mouse cursor rapidly flickers between screens and the machine is totally unresponsive at the console. Logging in via ssh and I can see load and cpu usage rapidly increases, memory usage also goes through the roof until all memory and swap is consumed at which point the oom-killer kicks in (or possibly Xorg crashes) , kills Xorg and I can log back in (with my session lost). In the mistaken assumption that I didn't have enough swap I increased it (from 2G to 10G) all this did was allow the machine to be a little bit more responsive for longer but Xorg still continued to consume memory, last time it got to 11.2G of virtual and a load average of 24 before I rebooted the machine. As a comparison, right now Xorg has 153m with load averages all at ~0.5. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741930] Re: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met
I'd say a simpler but still useful thing would be to make sure that if some hardware isn't compatible at the time of release because a proprietary driver is required (and that's the situation here - Unity doesn't work on Nouveau), then a big, red note of that should be made in the release notes prompt encouraging for upgrade, so that people can wait until Nvidia or any other vendor provides updated driver. Alternatively, the upgrading script should warn user about such incompatibilities at the start of the process, allowing them to easily cancel. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 680614] Re: Position of second monitor wrong in dual monitor setup if first monitor is 1366x768
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected natty patch ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg I'm using a two-monitor setup with an ati graphics card (Mobility Radeon HD 4300) on my laptop(lenovo u450p). The Laptop screen has a hardware resolution of 1366x768, the external monitor a hardware resolution of 1920x1080. If I set up the second monitor using xrandr --output HDMI-0 --off xrandr --output LVDS --auto xrandr --output HDMI-0 --auto --right-of LVDS (or the kde gui, the effects are equal) I expect 1) the left 1366x768 area to be on the laptop screen, and 2) the right 1920x768 area to be on the big monitor. But I observe: 1) happens as expected 2) happens almost. instead, the 2 rightmost pixels on the laptop monitor are repeated on the left border of the big monitor(filled with black to the bottom), in turn the two rightmost columns of the virtual display area are not visible on any monitor at all. If I switch the laptop monitor resolution to 1280x720, this effect does not occur, and - except for the then blurred laptop screen - everything works as expected. A screenshot shows the whole virtual desktop correctly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 780092] [NEW] No SINGLE Monitor support
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When I plug a monitor to my PC the monitors app doesn't offer the correct resolutions to choose from and the only way to use it is to select one well below of what the monitor supports. Randomly it offers the correct resolutions for a little while. I have experienced this bug in two Laptops one using a Samsung monitor model number: lr23ws and another using a 40 Samsung HDTV. I have read online that other people are having the same issue with different monitors of different brands. Ubuntu works perfectly on my laptop as long as I don't try to plug a monitor but I have a Desktop in which I simply can't install Ubuntu because it doesn't detect my monitor and I cannot use my $200 secondary monitor with my laptop because the correct resolutions aren't detected neither. I have experienced this bug since Ubuntu 9.10 and I have reported it before, the problem is not with multi-monitor support but actually with making work a single monitor at all. Not being able to connect a monitor should have more priority than what little is being given. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- No SINGLE Monitor support https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/780092 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This may be related to DVMT; Intel's Dynamic Video Memory Technology. ... its supposed to work with Microsoft's proprietary driver to dynamically allocate video memory resources (up to 128 M) for 2D - 3D performance and then return the memory resource to the OS when finished. My machine defaults to 8M preallocated, 0M fixed, and 120M DVMT... I changed the default settings to 8M preallocated 120M fixed and 0M DVMT... and the freeze is gone... even with compiz.real running w/ screensaver.I left the silly thing running all night... no problems. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770559] Re: Ubuntu fails to boot with nVidia proprietary driver
I've got the same issue with the 260 drivers (NVIDIA-Linux- x86_64-270.41.06.run). I'm currently on the 173 version (NVIDIA-Linux- x86_64-270.41.06.run)which is pretty slow but at least I can boot into X. I cant get 195 to install (fails to build module and dies). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 780809] [NEW] [natty] sporadic crashes with segmentation fault (intel GM45)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Xserver crashes after use of a few days, with a few suspend and resume cycles in between. I use the ubuntu kernel source 2.6.38-8.42 with the patch of tuxonice 3.2 applied. I don't know yet whether or not tuxonice has something to do with the crash. No error is found in /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state. One of the log files transferred by ubuntu-bug has the backtrace. I did not have this problem before update to natty. Maybe related to the above segfault, there was a problem of a hung GPU on a separate occasion. gdm log for this case is also attached. I am not sure if this hang is related to bug #727594 since my chipset is newer than those that are known to cause lockups. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 433142] Re: geode driver do not display 1024x600 on (K)UNR Karmic
If you want to support a new mode(i.e. 1024x600@60), add it to your code, and let that mode to be default. See my reply on #75, #82, #84, #93, #95. Thanks, Frank -Original Message- From: boun...@canonical.com [mailto:boun...@canonical.com] On Behalf Of Anewangelfades Sent: 2011年5月9日 22:43 To: Huang, FrankR Subject: [Bug 433142] Re: geode driver do not display 1024x600 on (K)UNR Karmic Hello, The bug affects also affects 10.10 Maverick Meerkat and 11.04. Is there a way to fix it? I tried every xorg.conf here, but none works! -- You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433142 Title: geode driver do not display 1024x600 on (K)UNR Karmic Status in “xserver-xorg-video-geode” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: Geode driver do not display 1024x600 resolution in (K)UNR Karmic. Actually, the bug also affects Jaunty, but doesnt affect Intrepid. I used to use a custom xorg.conf in intrepid, but it doesnt work on Jaunty or Karmic. In Jaunty and karmic, I could only use 1024x768 whick makes the screen bigger than the real display and is impossible to open new programs, specially in the menus (they simply disapear in the bottom of the screen). Further investigations on other distros made me think this is a regression from the xserver-xorg-video-geode 2.10.1-2. This bug affects all drivers from 2.10.1 (which is in Intrepid). In fact, Debian Lenny (that uses geode 2.10.1-2) works perfectly, VectorLinux 6.0 lite (that uses geode 2.9 - i think), also works. Jaunty (geode 2.11.1-1) and Karmic (2.11.4.1-1) dont work, they only display 1024x768... Actually, when I use the automatic configuration in Jaunty and Karmic (with no xorg.conf), the screen really seems to be 1024x768, but when I use the custom xorg.conf (the same I use in Intrepid), the screen seems different... like it was 800x768 (I know it's wierd, but it doesnt seem to be 1024x768 at all - everything is really ugly). Hope it will work in Karmic in time. Thanks in advance.
