[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771716] Re: middle click emulation not working

2011-05-29 Thread ClashTheBunny
Same problem with my touchpad. It works when I plug in my external
mouse. I also listed the details on the two input devices. Number 18
is my touchpad and it doesn't work. 20 is my mouse and it does work.

** Attachment added: One that works and one that doesn't.

Sorry, to clarify the kernel version - it seems to be only broken with
the default 2.6.38-8-generic-pae but works fine when booted with kernel
2.6.38-8-generic. The laptop has less than 4GB so there's no need for
PAE enabled kernel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)

2011-05-29 Thread harry
I just wanted to add that with the HD5650 on an Acer Aspire I have the
same issues. One thing that doesn't seem to get mentioned here much is
the vesafb. More than half the time I boot I get an error stating that
their was an error inserting vesafb. I sometimes also receive an error
stating that the module vesafb.ko was not found. Either way, the system
fails to boot.

I have no idea if this information is being output to a log somewhere as
it seems to occur even before the filesystems are mounted. Can someone
suggest to me which log to look for?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755841] Re: [sandybridge] video tearing

2011-05-29 Thread Envel
Ok, I've got an explanation for this bug from developer. He said that The
ability to wait upon scanlines was apparently defeatured, or at least
disappeared from the specs. It means that it will not be implemented at all.
I spent two days looking into the specs and writing the code. Yes, Intel
changed the mechanism of waiting for scan line window and vblank events. I
wrote new implementation for SandyBridge. All I've got is periodical video hang
up every several seconds.
I continue to contact developer of this part and try to understand what I did
wrong.

The simple way to test for this bug is to start video and press
PrintScreen on dynamic scene. You will see teared picture.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-05-29 Thread Ronald Koster
I think the bug is still present in latest release. For after my upgarde from
10.10 (in which Compiz worked fine) I had to major issues:
1. X did not start. It crashed and I ended up in console 1. Manually setting
the general vesa driver in /etc/Xorg worked was a temp solution. Final solution
is described at the Natty Narwwhal Release Notes (apt-get install
linux-headers-generic-pae. See bug 772226.)
2. Next Unity freezes/hangs. Classic mode with visual effect also. Classic mode
without visuals effects worked. At last!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-05-29 Thread Ronald Koster
This is how I found out Classic mode without visual effects cold be an
effective workaround: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1755014

I hope the bug will be fixed soon. Else if Ubuntu 11.10 will no longer
support classic mode, I will not be able to upgrade anymore...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755841] Re: [sandybridge] video tearing

2011-05-29 Thread Curtis Gedak
Thank Envel for reporting you findings and the link to the other bug
report.

While researching this problem I came across the following Intel Linux Graphics
documentation:
http://intellinuxgraphics.org/documentation.html

My thoughts are that this problem must be solvable, or else why would
Intel call this Graphics Processing Unit High Definition Graphics
3000. ;-)

I also recall reading somewhere that the problem did not arise in MS Windows.
Can someone with MS Windows test to see if there is video tearing while viewing
HD video in Windows?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 789962] [NEW] Desktop screen becomes corrupted randomly after upgrade to 11.04

2011-05-29 Thread rajeevthegreat
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Ever since I have upgraded to 11.04, at random interval desktop screen
becomes corrupted. This never happened with previous releases. I have
not seen any pattern about when this problem happens, and thus I do not
know how it could be reproduced. The only way to correct this issue is
restart of desktop, but if you are in middle of some important work,
this restart may not be feasible.

I have attached screen shot of my corrupted desktop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 670790] Re: Xv / XVideo accelerated video width is limited by / depending on the screen resolution on S3 Savage, but only if the laptop LCD is the primary screen

2011-05-29 Thread Tormod Volden
After looking at it, I think the cast to float in the other code is
overkill, since the result also is an integer, and there is no
intermediate quotient, like in 3*(2/3) = 0. There are parentheses but
even without, multiplication and division goes from left to right so it
is like (3*2)/3 and nothing is lost. The only worry would be if the
intermediate product overflows, in which case a (single) cast to a
higher precision integer would make sense. In our case, dstBox-x1 etc
are screen coordinates so maximum in the order of 1000, and XExp1 etc
(from InitStreamsForExpansion) are up to 0xC. Since XExp1 etc are int,
the multiplication is done with int (at least 32 bit) so it will not
overflow.

For preparing a proper patch there is not much to do, and I can walk you
through it:
 git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-savage # to
retrieve the upstream tree
 (apply your patches)
git commit -a -s # and make a short comment
 git format-patch -o .. HEAD^
Send the resulting file to me for style review if you want. Make sure name and
address in the patch header is how you would like to have it in the git history.

To start with I'd suggest you leave out the +7 removal. The rest is a
good and straight forward fix I would like to apply as soon as possible,
but the +7 removal is a separate issue which is more delicate.

Other improvements to the driver would be very cool! I agree this
hardware is perfectly usable for most tasks. Also the driver took many
years to get in good shape and it would a pity to let it rot. I have no
greater ambitions for its maintenance than to keep it falling into
pieces, but if there are still interested users and developers like you
I will help with what I can. I am not familiar with all of the code, and
I never did much with xvideo or tv-out.

We should maybe take all this somewhere else, but just to comment quickly on
your issues:
- TV resolutions are usually different than for monitors. I think PAL is
720x576.
- Scaling down should work fine with xvideo. Seems to work here.
- I believe the hardware is limited to 1024x1024 (source) for xvideo. So a
movie of 1280x800 can not be scaled down with xvideo on savage.

Unfortunately I have no documentation. Just the savage guide linked from
here: http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/S3Savage

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660301] Re: maverick: S3 savage (but also with vesa driver): X crash/restart after first switch to console and back, garbaged and unusable screen after second console switch

2011-05-29 Thread Tormod Volden
John Linn, I believe your issue has been fixed meanwhile. If not, make
sure you have enabled Recommended Updates (maverick-updates) or upgrade
to natty.

For everybody, if there are any remaining issues with the savage cards,
make sure you file bugs using ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-savage.

Hi ciaopaulo,
The bug was unfortunately attributed to the wrong package. Do you still have
this issue with your savage card? If so please set the bug status to New
again and run apport-collect 577484.

2011-05-29 Thread uhu
I am running natty, and had the same problem.

I downloaded from this site
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/1:0.2.904+svn920-1/+build/2484053
the deb-package
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/1:0.2.904+svn920-1/+build/2484053/+files/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome_0.2.904%2Bsvn920-1_i386.deb

and everything seems to be ok. No crash up to now!
Only a pity that it is not updated automagically.

Thanks to all!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 492782] Re: [i945gme] Mouse cursor disappears after restarting screen (xrandr / resume)

2011-05-29 Thread Helge
I am experiencing this problem for the first time, and have recently upgraded
to Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit - possible regression?
When I connect an external monitor to my Lenovo ThinkPad X200, Intel 4500MHD
graphics, the mouse is invisible on the second display (extended desktop mode).
Also, I get some weird black flickering on the second display when Compiz
dialogs are shown. E.g. pressing Alt+Tab I get some brief flickering just as
the dialog appears and disappears. If I hold Ctrl+Shift and press an arrow key
to switch workspace, keeping Ctrl+Shift pressed to leave the dialog open (on
the first display), there will be constant flickering on the second display.
Activating the Benchmark plugin also causes constant flicker.

linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic 2.6.38-8.42

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776978] Re: everything on screen is garbled apart from the top bar (2 monitors, different resolutions, unity, natty)

2011-05-29 Thread _aseith
To all who upgraded to Natty and experiencing a blank screen with an
external display: Go to one of the Console sessions (e.g. ctrl+alt+f1),
then rename the ~/.config/monitors.xml file. This resets the Gnome's
Monitor settings and should give you a working Unity / Gnome Deskop on
both displays. You can then try to configure you Monitor settings again.

However, the thing I'm experiencing here is, that when I try to disable
the notebook display to work on the external display (via VGA) only, the
notebook display goes off and the external display goes blank. And
that's it. I have to restart X to get back to GDM.

Running on an Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG, using Intel graphics only
(ATI disabled via switcheroo).

Regards

Alex

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 790015] [NEW] subtle graphics corruption after resume on sandybridge laptop

2011-05-29 Thread Sage Weil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

The laptop is a samsung np900x3a. After a suspend/resume, everything looks
mostly fine, except:
 - typing in a terminal is mostly invisible, until several lines go by and the
text becomes visible.
 - flipping to a different desktop and back makes the text appear
 - the problem goes away if I log out/in of the x session
I'd attach a picture, but it wouldn't show anything useful except the unchanged
screen (despite me typing) or the newly visible text (once it finally redraws).
Nothing suspicious in dmesg or Xorg.0.log that i can see...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442574] Re: mesa doesn't work when fglrx is installed

2011-05-29 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
** Changed in: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Opinion

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: mesa-utils
+ When fglrx is installed, attempting to use a mesa driver (such as Intel)
+ results in GLX not working.

- glxgears fails on my Thinkpad T500, with Intel video adapter. The
- computer has 64-bit Karmic installed and was up to date when I tested it
- a few minutes ago. I've attached my Xorg log, as I think there might be
- some problem with that.
+ cyberix@eval:~$ glxgears
+ X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such
operation)
+   Major opcode of failed request: 135 (GLX)
+   Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
+   Serial number of failed request: 16
+   Current serial number in output stream: 16

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 778933] Re: suspend problem

2011-05-29 Thread mangelasakis
apport information

** Description changed:

Sorry for my English ... I have problem with suspend. While it appears
to turn off properly when I press the button to restart the computer it
starts as if I had to disable shut down, not suspend. In ubuntu 10.10
functioned normally without problem. From what I've been looking at
forums I've found that the same problem and have other sony vaio
laptops. Someone mentioned that upgrading the bios corrected the
problem. I'll check it. It is strange, however, because the 10.10
  operating normally ...

Also another problem is that I do not recognize the card reader in no
linux version I've tried ... But this is not a big problem for me
because they do not use it ... But it is still a problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 780179] Re: package nvidia-96 96.43.17-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-96 kernel module failed to build

2011-05-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This appears to be the same problem as bug 627022. Just on a different
line of code because it's a (vastly) different nvidia driver version.
Can anyone look at the offending versions of nv.c to confirm it's the
same code, so same bug?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755841] Re: [sandybridge] video tearing

2011-05-29 Thread panic_button
No problem in Windows. This is Linux-specific.

On Sun, May 29, 2011 at 10:06 PM, Curtis Gedak ged...@gmail.com wrote:

Thank Envel for reporting you findings and the link to the other bug
 report.

While researching this problem I came across the following Intel Linux
 Graphics documentation:
 http://intellinuxgraphics.org/documentation.html

My thoughts are that this problem must be solvable, or else why would
Intel call this Graphics Processing Unit High Definition Graphics
 3000. ;-)

I also recall reading somewhere that the problem did not arise in MS
 Windows.
Can someone with MS Windows test to see if there is video tearing while
 viewing HD video in Windows?
