[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 740593] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2 ] GPU lockup
I think I have the same problem. I just built a system using an Asrock Z68 Pro motherboard (Intel Z68 chipset) and an Intel i5-2500K (sandybridge). When using a PCI graphics card, things work fine (and I'm sure they would with a PCIe card, as well). When using the sandybridge's GPU, Ubuntu locks up frequently. I do not experience any problems using the GRML live CD, which I assume is using a generic VESA mode driver. I can double check on this. Ubuntu 11.04 x64 Live CD locks up before I see the desktop. Installed 11.04 using the x64 minimal CD and the installed appeared to go fine. Booting with the sandybridge graphics sometimes locks with the splashscreen, before GDM has loaded. If GDM loads, it locks immediately after login before a desktop appears if I choose any of the 3D accelerated options. I have not tried safe mode or 2D Ubuntu Classic, but Unity 2D worked for 5 or 10 minutes before locking up. When it locks up, the screen usually goes black with a strip up the left side showing a bit of random pixel blicking. I don't yet have OpenSSH installed, so I can't check if it's still responsive that way. The keyboard definitely does nothing, as Num Lock and Caps Lock keys don't even cycle the LEDs. I'm using a PS2 keyboard. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/740593 Title: [sandybridge-m-gt2 ] GPU lockup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/740593/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763005] Re: Fglrx with Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes Unity/Compiz plugins to crawl
This feels like the same issue as bug 145431 where compiz simply had the wrong framerate so was trying to sync to the wrong frequency. In older versions of CCSM there was an option to fix the framerate manually. I remember it used to incorrectly detect 50Hz where it should have been 60Hz. But I don't see such an option to tweak this in natty. The turning off Sync to Vblank in CCSM workaround works for me (ATI HD 6350/5450). But it's not ideal enabling tearing. I want smooth graphics back :( ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763005 Title: Fglrx with Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes Unity/Compiz plugins to crawl To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/763005/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567696] Re: [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop
After considering that many different video graphics drivers exhibit this fault, I decided to focus on the kernel's DRM (Direct Rendering Manager) code since it is common to all reports. There has been a lot of change in the DRM code since the Lucid kernel was released with Linux v2.6.32. As a quick check I installed the Natty kernel via the linux-image-generic-lts-backport-natty package in the lucid-proposed archive. This contains the Linux v2.6.38 kernel. So far I've been unable to trigger the fault since booting the v2.6.38 kernel via any of the triggers that were guaranteed to cause the fault with v2.6.32. I suggest others affected by this fault try the same kernel update to confirm this is a viable solution. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/567696 Title: [mi] EQ overflowing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763005] Re: Fglrx with Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes Unity/Compiz plugins to crawl
Tracked down the problem. (Obviously) ATI's implementation of GLX_SGI_video_sync does not behave the way compiz expects it to. And compiz is frequently skipping 1-2 frames, making a 60Hz display actually render compiz at 20-30Hz. The confusion is that compiz expects glXGetVideoSyncSGI to return immediately but with fglrx it seems to take a whole frame or two before returning. Though I can't find proof that ATI is at fault and have violated the spec at all (http://www.opengl.org/registry/specs/SGI/video_sync.txt). Shouldn't matter though. The fix for compiz is simple and should work with all drivers. Almost done... ** Changed in: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763005 Title: Fglrx with Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes Unity/Compiz plugins to crawl To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/763005/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777493] Re: nvidia drivers activated but not in use on natty 11.04
@ William Chambers, no it doesn't seem so. Even the new driver on their page is only for 32bit-versions and not for 64bit-versions!! And this is disgusting as 32bit-versions are not working on my machine!!! So I would appreciate, if another developer would take over and fix this. This is a big severe bug, as hundreds of user claim that this driver is no longer working and my grphiccard seems to be at a near meltdown in the meantime. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567696] Re: [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop
I've managed to trigger the fault using kernel v2.6.38 from Natty whilst running the Software Sources update after enabling additional repositories. I noticed in previous debugging sessions that the DRM_DEBUG messages emitted when enabled in the kernel with echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/module/drm/parameters/debug Shows hundreds of calls to radeon_freelist_get() and additionally the reported done_age doesn't increment. E.g: Jul 18 17:30:55 A7M266D kernel: [27706.636121] [drm:drm_ioctl], pid=923, cmd=0xc0286429, nr=0x29, dev 0xe200, auth=1 Jul 18 17:30:55 A7M266D kernel: [27706.636142] [drm:radeon_freelist_get], done_age = 628 Jul 18 17:30:55 A7M266D kernel: [27706.636153] [drm:radeon_freelist_get], done_age = 628 Jul 18 17:30:55 A7M266D kernel: [27706.636158] [drm:radeon_freelist_get], done_age = 628 Jul 18 17:30:55 A7M266D kernel: [27706.636163] [drm:radeon_freelist_get], done_age = 628 Jul 18 17:30:55 A7M266D kernel: [27706.636168] [drm:radeon_freelist_get], done_age = 628 Jul 18 17:30:55 A7M266D kernel: [27706.636173] [drm:radeon_freelist_get], done_age = 628 Jul 18 17:30:55 A7M266D kernel: [27706.636178] [drm:radeon_freelist_get], done_age = 628 Jul 18 17:30:55 A7M266D kernel: [27706.636184] [drm:radeon_freelist_get], done_age = 628 Jul 18 17:30:55 A7M266D kernel: [27706.636189] [drm:radeon_freelist_get], done_age = 628 Jul 18 17:30:55 A7M266D kernel: [27706.636194] [drm:radeon_freelist_get], done_age = 628 My initial analysis makes me think that there's a logic bug in radeon_cp_get_buffers() that causes it to get stuck in the loop: for (i = d-granted_count; i d-request_count; i++) { buf = radeon_freelist_get(dev); ... d-granted_count++; } return 0; I shall be working to obtain more specific details that can lead to an explanation and fix for this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/567696 Title: [mi] EQ overflowing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Maverick 10.10 live-CD login failure, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid
I downloaded the 16 July 2011 build of 10.04.3, and apparently the repaired driver has not been backported to this release. Two issues: 1. the screen comes up in 1600x1200 or something like that, so the bottom right of that screen image does not show on the 1024x768 panel, as before. 2. A login dialog shows up, in the lower right of the screen (center of 1600x1200 image), which means the system tried to start gdm, failed, and showed a login dialog. Trying to log in with 'ubuntu' and a blank password results in the same thing happening again after several seconds. So this RC of 10.04.3 is unusable on this system. I wasn't able to access any files generated during system startup. This system has 11.04 installed, and works with the 11.10 alpha-2 live cd, also with the 2011-07-05 daily build of Kubuntu 11.10. BTW this 11.10 Kubuntu is the first Kubuntu I've tried on this laptop, since the earlier screen-size problem results in Kubuntu's panel being off-screen on the bottom. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495553 Title: [K8M800] Maverick 10.10 live-CD login failure, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openchrome/+bug/495553/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 811856] Re: touchpad stopped working 2011-jul -17
Hi Susan, I have several questions I need to know to better understand your problem: 1. Your bug report is missing some of the standard files that should be included with X bug reports. Did you file this bug using the command 'ubuntu-bug xorg'? (I ask because if you did, we may have a bug in the script.) 2. Run the command 'apport-collect 811856' 3. Please attach your /var/log/dpkg.log file 4. Please downgrade to the earlier version of xserver-xorg-input- synaptics (probably 1.3.99+git20110116.0e27ce3a-0ubuntu15) and verify the bug goes away. You can find a deb of this version under 'Built files' at: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input- synaptics/1.3.99+git20110116.0e27ce3a-0ubuntu15/+build/2560833 ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/811856 Title: touchpad stopped working 2011-jul -17 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/811856/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 809192] Re: Screen is dark after Update on r600 4290HD
Setting screen physical size to 508 x 285 in Xorg.0.log That is 20.5 x 11, which doesn't seem that weird to me, assuming you have a widescreen display. (II) RADEON(0): Max Image Size [cm]: horiz.: 52 vert.: 29 It appears to be detecting this size and the resolution properly. If you think these numbers are incorrect, it could be a bug in the kernel's KMS code, and so should file a bug there. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 764700] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in utouch_frame_sync()
I have been running Bryce's patched version of Xorg for a while. I still experience occasional crashes. However, I haven't succeeded in crashing X by moving my stylus along the screen like a madman (like what I described earlier). I found out that I can reliably produce a crash by running the fingerpaint example of qt4, (apt-get install qt4-demos) and touching the screen. I have attached a backtrace. These may be two unrelated bugs since one involves the stylus and the other involves touch input. Let me know if I should file a second bug report. ** Attachment added: gdb-Xorg.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/764700/+attachment/2215581/+files/gdb-Xorg.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/764700 Title: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in utouch_frame_sync() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/764700/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 809192] Re: Screen is dark after Update on r600 4290HD
Hi Timo Witte, avivotool can be used to assist in debugging this issue. avivotool is provided with the radeontool package, so to install it run: sudo apt-get install radeontool After installing it, you run it like this: sudo avivotool regs all regdump_good.txt sudo avivotool regs all regdump_broke.txt Run it two times. Once when you have a working screen (for any driver), and once in the broken case (either from the tty console or logged into the sick box remotely). Attach both of those to this bug report, and we can then forward this issue upstream. Thanks ahead of time! After updating the package You should also review your /var/log/dpkg.log to see what other packages might have been upgraded around the same time frame. Often blank screen bugs are not due to -ati but rather the kernel or mesa. So, it would be helpful if you would test downgrading other packages that were upgraded at that same time, so you can definitively identify which package caused the regression. .debs for older versions of packages can be found on launchpad via the Publishing History page. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/809192 Title: Screen is dark after Update on r600 4290HD To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/809192/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 752157] Re: [RS880] graphical corruption in launcher (Solid grey rectangles over icon text and window borders)
Is it worth booting a natty liveCD and seeing if I can reproduce it there? Probably not; we're no where near identifying what package was bugged, let alone have a patch identified, so at this point a backport to natty is looking unlikely. However, I'll open a natty task in case anyone would like to do the legwork of chasing down the patch and proposing it for an SRU. (First isolate which package contains the fix by selectively upgrading packages to the oneiric versions, then do a git bisect on that package to pinpoint the patch that fixed it; then see the StableReleaseUpdates wiki page for directions on how to file SRUs.) Since we've not heard from Martin, I'm going to go ahead and assume your findings are true that this is fixed in oneiric and close out this bug report; if anyone does see the bug in oneiric please open a new report (ubuntu-bug xorg) so we have updated logs and such. (Reference this bug report if you're certain it's the same issue.) ** Also affects: unity (Ubuntu Natty) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu Natty) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/752157 Title: [RS880] graphical corruption in launcher (Solid grey rectangles over icon text and window borders) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/752157/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 764700] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in utouch_frame_sync()
Just taking a superficial look, the bug is still in the input event stack, and happens in an area of the code that may be difficult to patch. There are some Ubuntu-authored patches in the input stack for utouch and the touch framework which might be involved in some fashion here, although it's hard for me to be certain just judging these crash dumps. I've prepared a PPA that have the multitouch patches switched off for you to test. These will help isolate whether the bug is in the ubuntu MT patches or might be something upstream. Please install this PPA and test it, and report here if you can or can't get it to crash after that: https://launchpad.net/~bryce/+archive/melon If it still crashes, the next step would be for you to uninstall that PPA (use ppa-purge) and then install xorg-edgers and try reproducing on that. If it *still* crashes, then the bug should be forwarded upstream at that point. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/764700 Title: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in utouch_frame_sync() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/764700/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 803012] Re: Intel driver incorrectly renders some UI elements
** Description changed: - Some UI elements from wine and fvwm don't render correctly when using - the Intel driver. This can be observed in screenshots shown in the - following links: + [Impact] + Widespread occurrences of rendering corruption with -intel. It is cosmetic but looks very ugly. + + The issue is caused by a buggy optimization added in upstream commit + 3055d401, uxa: Use Composite rather than solid blitter for PolyRect + added in 2.12.0 (i.e. Maverick). + + [Development Fix] + Upstream simply dropped the optimization entirely; their longer term plans are to provide better performance via the new SNA acceleration architecture (which we might ship in oneiric). + + [Stable Fix] + See attached debdiff. It is a backport of the upstream patch to natty. + + [Test Case] + The bug exhibits itself in different ways for different people, and has different steps for reproducing. For example, tabbing between windows, closing windows, selecting text, etc. Generally you'll see corruption, blackness, or lines surrounding or related to text or dropdown windows. + + But in general, booting on affected hardware and using for a period of + time will eventually trigger creation of the artifacts. + + [Regression Potential] + Probably low. In theory, removal of an optimization path would risk some performance loss, however in practice we're not seeing anyone reporting that the performance got noticeably worse. In any case, it is not expected that the performance loss would be very large, and small performance impacts to resolve a screen corruption issue would probably be a fair trade. + + [Original Report] + Some UI elements from wine and fvwm don't render correctly when using the Intel driver. This can be observed in screenshots shown in the following links: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28798 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29401 http://askubuntu.com/questions/29642/black-or-corrupt-ui-artifacts-under-wine/ These issues have been attributed to errors in UXA utilising the 3D pipeline for core rendering. Upstream has disabled this to resolve this issue for now. I have applied their patch (commit: 855ced5a4eb67e287001ae22cb6489639c548cfa) to test this fix, which works for me here: https://launchpad.net/~smorar/+archive/bugfixes -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/803012 Title: Intel driver incorrectly renders some UI elements To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/803012/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 812639] [NEW] EGL/GLES/OpenVG should use alternatives system
Public bug reported: As a result of discussion at the Dublin sprint it was decided to provide an alternative system for EGL providers, similar to the libGL one currently in existence. This will put libEGL, libGLES{1,2} and libOpenVG in a mesa-specific subdirectory, mesa-egl. Mesa's libEGL will set up an alternative to a ld.so.conf snippet to add this path to the library linker. ** Affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/812639 Title: EGL/GLES/OpenVG should use alternatives system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/812639/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
