[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 790824] Re: [Asus EeePC 1001PXD/1011PX/1015PX/1215p] External monitor scrambles desktop

2011-08-02 Thread Keng-Yü Lin
In
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/769650/comments/8,
it is mentioned this can be due to bug 555641.

I limited the external monitor resolution to 800x600 in gnome-display-
properties, there is no corruption.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 819684] [NEW] No video after logout on Lenovo x220

2011-08-02 Thread Pete Goodall
Public bug reported:

Not every time, but many times when I logout the screen goes blank and
never comes back. I try switching to a text login (i.e. vt2) and I
still get nothing. The only way to rectify the situation is to switch
to a text vt - even though there is no video - and press the power
button to initiate a controlled shutdown (not a hard power off). Not
sure what trouble shooting information I can get you so please let me
know if you need additional information.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 62587] Re: Ligatures problem in Arabic keyboard layout

2011-08-02 Thread Simos Xenitellis
The proper solution is to work on the patch at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=537457
Once this is done, both Arabic and Khmer will work out of the box.

I am not motivated to work on this at this time ;-'(,
so what some people can do is use the nasty workaround that enables 'XIM'.

To use 'XIM' is a workaround, it we should not become part of Ubuntu.
The proper solution is to work on
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=537457
and I think there is time to make it for gtk+3.2.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 582809] Re: Synaptics Clickpad touchpad buttons are not working

2011-08-02 Thread Lapse of Reason
I have applied the fixes from #190 and #208 and everything works fine
except for the button (and LED) to disable the trackpad.
/var/log/kern.log shows

Aug 1 17:59:55 ubuntu kernel: [ 32.677910] Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1, fw:
8.0, id: 0x1e2b1, caps: 0xd00123/0xc40300/0x123c00
Aug 1 17:59:55 ubuntu kernel: [ 32.708628] input: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad
as /devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input10

and it is missing the two lines mentioned in #193. Notice that the fw
and id are different too, so I probably have a newer version of the
trackpad that is not recognized properly.

Does anyone know how to get the LED working on that newer model?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753144] Re: focused, or maximized windows blank

2011-08-02 Thread Soos Gergely
After downgrading my nvidia driver the issue seems to be disappeared. (I don't
really understand the interdependencies of the packages but I removed the
nvidia-current package and installed nvidia-glx-173; I guess my driver will not
be automatically updated.)
I've been working with it for 3 hours and every window is ok; with the other
driver the fourth opened maximized window was white.

I hope you find solutions quickly because I'm looking forward to working

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 522318] Re: Serial Tablet PCs not supported in lucid

2011-08-02 Thread Favux
Legacy serial tablet support is available for Lucid and Maverick using a
patch set to add a modified linuxwacom serial driver to xf86-input-
wacom-0.10.6. See HOW TO Set Up a Wacom Serial Tablet in Ubuntu:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1780154

Additionally a new wacom_serial.ko (protocol 4) by tokenrove and
wacom_serial5.ko (protocol 5; Intuous and Intuos2) by roaldfre are being
developed. They are currently in a working testable form. These will
provide support for legacy serial tablets in Natty and later in
conjunction with inputattach. Links in the above HOW TO.

Candidate udev rules are available.

The current udev rules for ISDV4 serial Wacom tablets (serial tablet
PCs) are available on the mediawiki:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/linuxwacom/index.php?title=Fixed_device_files_with_udev
From this linuxwacom-devel thread:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 762135] Re: [i865] natty - display heavily corrupted

2011-08-02 Thread Praveen
Hello Candtalan,

May I know your problematic machine configuration? I am not sure whether
Gnome 3 would work without any issues on Intel 865GvHz (just with built-
in graphics support). Because when I had tried Fedora 15, it failed to
load Gnome 3 and used Gnome 2 saying graphics card does not support
Gnome 3 features...

Are you able to see and use Gnome 3 launcher component on the desktop without
any issues? If so kindly post a snapshot.
Thanks a bunch in advance.

Praveen

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777956] Re: X display with Intel i915 driver occasionally goes blank after resume from suspend

2011-08-02 Thread Wirawan Purwanto
Hmm... nobody responded. I found a few posting on Ubuntu Forums which
might or might not be relevant:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1467927

* This one says flickering about once a minute. I did not experience
this. I did experience occasional flickering but not as often as once a
minute. The flicker is very quick and the display goes back to normal. I
was afraid if this was my hardware error; but now I suspect it is
probably software-related.

* The solution mentioned there (about disabling RANDR service) does
not apply to me. Apparently it is for KDE-based Ubuntu desktop; I am
using GNOME.

* But there is a mention about a bug in Lucid intel driver (see post
#10):

For what I've read, there's a bug on Lucid with the Intel Corporation
Mobile 4 Series Chipset, and it hasn't been fixed, so we're out of luck.
If anyone else knows more about this, please let us know!

No specific reference pointed out. I wonder if the bug is related to
black screen problem I occasionally have.

2011-08-02 Thread jota @juanramon.net
Same here on dell x300 with lubuntu 11..04 updated form 10.10
the workarround:
Create a file : $HOME/force_1024.sh with this text ...

#!/bin/bash
#
xrandr -s 800x600
xrandr -s 1024x768

Create a second file in $HOME/.config/autostart/force_1024.desktop with this
text ...
(this does the trick for you every login startup)

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Exec=$HOME/force_1024.sh

next: I will look for grub configuration because now i have no boot menu or
ttys (CTR-ALT-F1 to F6)

another issue: While login prompt, you can see a black area in the
screens botton, if you close the laptop it disapear for a moment,
apparing a second later again.

Hope this helps someone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 733192] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in brw_upload_state()

2011-08-02 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
This bug has been marked WONTFIX upstream as this can only trigger when
the GPU hangs and so there's no way to gracefully recover 3D. Crashing
the 3D using program is as good a response as any; it's guaranteed not
to function with a hung GPU anyway.

I'm going to mark this bug as invalid. If you run into this bug then
the debugging information necessary is that referred to by Bryce in
comment #44 - dmesg and i915_error_state, filed as a new bug. The Intel
GPU hang apport hook should pop up and attach this information for you
when the GPU hangs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 798787] Re: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental lacks 32-bit binaries for amd64

2011-08-02 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
We don't actually ship 32bit libraries in any of the amd64 mesa
packages. The support you're seeing for other cards comes from the
32bit libGL/dri libraries in ia32-libs. Reassigning to that package.

Note that dpkg-multiarch is implemented in Oneiric, so you can just
install the 32bit packages directly from the archive with “apt-get
install libgl1-mesa-glx:i386”. As such, ia32-libs is going away, and
this bug might be marked as invalid or wontfix.

** Package changed: mesa (Ubuntu) = ia32-libs (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers

2011-08-02 Thread Martin Spacek
Unsurprisingly, this problem remains in the latest ubuntu-x-swat nvidia
driver, 280.13. There seems to be some kind of a fairly recent problem
with nvidia backlight controls in the mactel community, with a few bugs
filed (like #764195).

A comment mentioned some success adding the mactel PPA (ppa:mactel-
support/ppa) and installing nvidia-bl-dkms:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers/+bug/764195/comments/11

Thought it might be worth a shot, so I tried this on my Thinkpad W510
with Quadro FX 880M (based on GT 330M apparently), but backlight
behaviour didn't change with the nvidia blob, even after reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 762135] Re: [i865] natty - display heavily corrupted

2011-08-02 Thread candtalan
@ praveen
I think I already posted machine details in earlier posts here?
Sorry I only use Ubuntu at present and have not tried Fedora or Gnome3 items
afaik.

When you say #63 you would like to see it, do you ask me to post
screenshot of Ubuntu alpha2 on the problem machine? Or are you saying
you await your own trial of alpha2?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813118] Re: ALPS touchpad treated as generic PS/2 mouse

2011-08-02 Thread Marja Erwin
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected natty ubuntu

** Description changed:

I have suffered this problem in ubuntu 10.10 and continue to face it in
11.04. For whatever reason, any mouse tapping, any pressure variation,
stray hairs, etc. are treated as button1 clicks. I cannot use touchpad-
specific functions, to disable the touchpad while typing or disable
  mouse clicks using the touchpad.

- Right now I use a separate mouse, with a hotkey to disable to touchpad
- and enable typing. However, the touchpad turns itself back on, every
- time the computer suspends.
