From the symptoms this sounds like a GPU lockup bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681054] Re: [i915gm] screen repeatedly goes black for a fraction of a second (two monitors detected?)
The debugging information Chris Wilson is after can be gathered by adding ‘drm.debug=0xe’ to your kernel command line - you can do that the same way that you added “video=VGA-1:d”. Once you've booted, and the screen has flickered a bit, please grab dmesg and attach it here. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 810217] Re: [MIR] wayland protocol package
* debian/copyright: - wayland/scanner.c: GPL (v2 or later) - this one is indeed listed but there is no COPYING or LICENSE file of GPLv2 upstream, which should be mandatory to release the upstream package (ok, they never released a tarball yet, but it's not too late to fix that!) - wayland/wayland-hash.c: MIT/X11 - this is listed as well in debian/copyright, but the Licence: should be set to MIT - for the remaining pieces, I don't know what to put for empty Licence: I would just either skip the section or put unkown or public domain * debian/rules: more a question than anything else, I'm surprised about this: # Install in debian/tmp to retain control through dh_install: override_dh_auto_install: dh_auto_install --destdir=debian/tmp is it really needed? Is it the fact to change the builddir which affects the destdir? * debian/wayland.lintian-overrides: I guess this override should be on libwayland0 to have some effect (it doesn't right now) * debian/libwayland-dev.install # Tool to build various other packages: usr/bin/wayland-scanner wayland-scanner.mk seems to indicate (and confirmed by RAOF) that the scanner is used to generate the header files from the xml protocol. Consequently, I'm wondering why we need to ship it in the -dev package, as we don't ship the xml file for the protocole but directly the generated header? All the rest of the packaging is really nice, usage of --fail-missing, ensuring some control over the instability of the ABI, autogenerated symbol files and such :) Please reopen once the copyright is fixed (and ping me on IRC) and those quesstion answered! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 790824] Re: [Asus EeePC 1001PXD/1011PX/1015PX/1215p] External monitor scrambles desktop
From the test result in comment #25, #26, this is the same bug as bug 555641 and is a hardware limit. It is more obvious and easy to observe in Natty because Unity/Compiz is now the default. Also gnome-settings-daemon chooses the extended mode when the VGA cord is attached. Unless with a really low resolution external monitor, for most of the common LCD monitor available, it is really easy to exceed the resolution of 2048x2048. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820368] [NEW] Screen fonts unreadable - light and small
You have been subscribed to a public bug: System: kubuntu natty 11.04, kde-4.7, all latest updates applied This began yesterday (03 Aug 2011) after the kernel/nvidia updates were applied. There are two problems: 1. The fonts have become so light, that the screen is unreadable. The problem appears to be that the characters are being rendered too thin. I have to set the fonts to bold to make the screen useable at all. I have tried changing font settings in systemsettings application appearance fonts, both size and font style. I have also tried changing fonts -- the fonts do change, but the rendering problem remains. I have also tried forcing the dpi setting, does not solve the problem. The problem also exists in gtk applications like firefox, and changing the settings in systemsettings does not fix it. 2. The fonts shrink in size. All steps mentioned in (1) tried. Restarting X server, rebooting, etc, don't solve the problem. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: fonts kde screen -- Screen fonts unreadable - light and small https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/820368 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900
I installed the update package 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.2 from natty-proposed and it seems to make things better. At least on my laptop (915/910) I haven't noticed corruption since upgrading the package (but this may change in time, I cannot be sure). But it's different on my desktop (945), where the new package probably reduces the problem, but it still appears in previous form after some time. When I set Tiling=false it reduces corruption a lot, but there still appears some like before. Although I did notice it only in Ubuntu menu bar (submenus were fine). When I set DebugWait=true instead of Tiling=false, some of the games started doing a lot of hiccups and were practically unusable (I tried teeworlds from GetDeb). Some corruption appeared but was very episodical, by now I have noticed it only on GDM logon background image. I'd say, for me Tiling=false seemed a better workaround, because it didn't ruin the gaming experience and I didn't notice too much slowing down. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745608 Title: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/745608/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Just after writing that I noticed font corruption on my laptop (915/910) login screen. I haven't set anything in xorg.conf on my laptop though. If the corruptions have really been reduced, only time will tell, it certainly seemed so at the beginning. But they have not been removed by the new package or workarounds, that's for sure. DebugWait=true doesn't seem a viable option for me, because it renders some of the graphically more demanding programs unusable. Thanks for the efforts though. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820368] Re: Screen fonts unreadable - light and small
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected kubuntu natty patch possible-manual- nvidia-install ** Description changed: System: kubuntu natty 11.04, kde-4.7, all latest updates applied This began yesterday (03 Aug 2011) after the kernel/nvidia updates were applied. + --- + .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus.0: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/0' + .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus.1: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/1' + .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: + .proc.driver.nvidia.version: + NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 280.13 Wed Jul 27 16:53:56 PDT 2011 + GCC version: gcc version 4.5.2 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.5.2-8ubuntu4) + Architecture: amd64 + CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, decor, mousepoll, vpswitch, regex, animation, snap, expo, move, compiztoolbox, place, grid, gnomecompat, wall, ezoom, workarounds, staticswitcher, resize, fade, scale, session, unityshell] + CompositorRunning: kwin + DistUpgraded: Fresh install + DistroCodename: natty + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 + DistroVariant: kubuntu + DkmsStatus: + virtualbox-ose, 4.0.4, 2.6.38-11-generic, x86_64: installed + nvidia-current, 280.13, 2.6.38-11-generic, x86_64: installed + GraphicsCard: + nVidia Corporation G92 [GeForce 9800 GT] [10de:0605] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) +Subsystem: nVidia Corporation Device [10de:062d] + nVidia Corporation G92 [GeForce 9800 GT] [10de:0605] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) +Subsystem: nVidia Corporation Device [10de:062d] + JockeyStatus: + xorg:nvidia_173 - NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (Proprietary, Disabled, Not in use) + xorg:nvidia_current - NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (Proprietary, Disabled, Not in use) + MachineType: Dell Inc XPS 630i + NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia + Package: xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3.1 + PackageArchitecture: amd64 + ProcEnviron: + LANGUAGE= + LANG=en_US.utf8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda1 ro text + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-11.48-generic 2.6.38.8 + Renderer: Unknown + Tags: natty possible-manual-nvidia-install kubuntu patch + Uname: Linux 2.6.38-11-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm admin cdrom clamav dialout fax fuse games lp lpadmin mail plugdev pulse-access sambashare tty users vboxusers + dmi.bios.date: 05/05/2009 + dmi.bios.vendor: Dell Inc. + dmi.bios.version: 1.0.13 + dmi.board.name: 0PP150 + dmi.board.vendor: Dell Inc + dmi.board.version: A00 + dmi.chassis.type: 3 + dmi.chassis.vendor: Dell Inc + dmi.chassis.version: Unknow + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnDellInc.:bvr1.0.13:bd05/05/2009:svnDellInc:pnXPS630i:pvrUnknow:rvnDellInc:rn0PP150:rvrA00:cvnDellInc:ct3:cvrUnknow: + dmi.product.name: XPS 630i + dmi.product.version: Unknow + dmi.sys.vendor: Dell Inc + version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.4+bzr20110606-0ubuntu1~natty2 + version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs 20090808ubuntu13 + version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.24+git20110330.5cb554a0-0ubuntu0sarvatt + version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 7.11.0+git20110328.5d7c27f5-0ubuntu0sarvatt + version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental 7.11.0+git20110328.5d7c27f5-0ubuntu0sarvatt + version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 7.11.0+git20110328.5d7c27f5-0ubuntu0sarvatt + version.nvidia-graphics-drivers: nvidia-graphics-drivers N/A + version.xserver-xorg: xserver-xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3.1 + version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati N/A + version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel N/A + version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau N/A ** Attachment added: .proc.driver.nvidia.params.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/820368/+attachment/2252525/+files/.proc.driver.nvidia.params.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/820368 Title: Screen fonts unreadable - light and small To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/820368/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 582809] Re: Synaptics Clickpad touchpad buttons are not working
I can confirm that the i386.deb posted here works on my HP tm2 2050 under Natty, except for the disable double tap and LED. Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1, fw: 7.4, id: 0x1e0b1, caps: 0xd04773/0xe4/0x5a0400 Is there anything more I need to do to get the disable / LED function working please? Also recent mainstream kernel updates appear to have broken what support I had under Lucid for the same machine.
