[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 775060] Re: Random GUI freezes in Natty (can only move the cursor)

2011-08-03 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
From the symptoms this sounds like a GPU lockup bug. Once it occurs,
could you please grab the information listed on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze#Reporting_GPU_lockup_Bugs
- you might need root privs to look in /sys/kernel/debug - and attach
the information here? Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 815000] Re: Oneiric X/LightDM doesn't start on an Intel GMA500

2011-08-03 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Gah! The poulsbo driver couldn't do something useful, like log
*anything* to dmesg, could it?

So, we either need the DDX component of the poulsbo driver or to
blacklist the kernel module. I lean towards blacklisting the kernel
module.

2011-08-03 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hm. Or, perhaps, since the poulsbo module appears to be a kms driver,
it should work with fbdev at native resolution.

Could you please attach dmesg from a boot with “drm.debug=0x0f” appended
to the kernel command line?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 815978] Re: EDID information not read

2011-08-03 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
The logs you've provided don't seem to have an attempt at connecting the
TV in them? Could you please try connecting your TV, set a mode on it
(either 1024x768 or 800x600, it doesn't matter) and then attach the
output of “dmesg” and your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file?

That should help narrow down what's going wrong. Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681054] Re: [i915gm] screen repeatedly goes black for a fraction of a second (two monitors detected?)

2011-08-03 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
The debugging information Chris Wilson is after can be gathered by
adding ‘drm.debug=0xe’ to your kernel command line - you can do that the
same way that you added “video=VGA-1:d”. Once you've booted, and the
screen has flickered a bit, please grab dmesg and attach it here.

You should also be able to add “drm_kms_helper.poll=0” to your kernel
command line in /etc/default/grub if you want that work around to be
permanently enabled.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 810217] Re: [MIR] wayland protocol package

2011-08-03 Thread Didier Roche
* debian/copyright:
- wayland/scanner.c: GPL (v2 or later)
   - this one is indeed listed but there is no COPYING or LICENSE file of
GPLv2 upstream, which should be mandatory to release the upstream package (ok,
they never released a tarball yet, but it's not too late to fix that!)
- wayland/wayland-hash.c: MIT/X11
   - this is listed as well in debian/copyright, but the Licence: should be
set to MIT
- for the remaining pieces, I don't know what to put for empty Licence: I would
just either skip the section or put unkown or public domain

* debian/rules:
more a question than anything else, I'm surprised about this:
# Install in debian/tmp to retain control through dh_install:
override_dh_auto_install:
dh_auto_install --destdir=debian/tmp
is it really needed? Is it the fact to change the builddir which affects the
destdir?

* debian/wayland.lintian-overrides:
I guess this override should be on libwayland0 to have some effect (it doesn't
right now)

* debian/libwayland-dev.install
# Tool to build various other packages:
usr/bin/wayland-scanner

wayland-scanner.mk seems to indicate (and confirmed by RAOF) that the scanner
is used to generate the header files from the xml protocol.
Consequently, I'm wondering why we need to ship it in the -dev package, as we
don't ship the xml file for the protocole but directly the generated header?

All the rest of the packaging is really nice, usage of --fail-missing, ensuring
some control over the instability of the ABI, autogenerated symbol files and
such :)

Please reopen once the copyright is fixed (and ping me on IRC) and those
quesstion answered! Thanks a lot : )

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 790824] Re: [Asus EeePC 1001PXD/1011PX/1015PX/1215p] External monitor scrambles desktop

2011-08-03 Thread Keng-Yü Lin
From the test result in comment #25, #26, this is the same bug as bug
555641 and is a hardware limit.

It is more obvious and easy to observe in Natty because Unity/Compiz is
now the default.

Also gnome-settings-daemon chooses the extended mode when the VGA cord
is attached. Unless with a really low resolution external monitor, for
most of the common LCD monitor available, it is really easy to exceed
the resolution of 2048x2048.

I am afraid there is not much we do to with this bug, at least for
Natty.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 385515] Re: DKMS module nvidia-96.43.10 build problem under linux-rt

2011-08-03 Thread Bo Gao
I ran into this bug today whilst compiling kernel 2.6.32.43 to use as
DomU for Xen.

Background: installed Ubuntu 11.04 on laptop, first time login, prompted
with Unity not available due to hardware..., once connected to the
net, an Nvidia update came up, installed and Unity worked, the update
created a folder in usr/src called nvidia-current-270.41.06.

Issue: configured and compiled kernel 2.6.32.43 (up to % sudo make).
After % sudo make modules_install install, prompted with * dkms:
running installation service for and then hangs at * nvidia-
current (270.41.06)...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820370] [NEW] Tries and fails to remove /etc/gdm

2011-08-03 Thread Scott Kitterman
Public bug reported:

This is from my apt-term log after upgrading from natty to oneiric:

Preparing to replace x11-common 1:7.6+4ubuntu3.1 (using
.../x11-common_1%3a7.6+7ubuntu6_all.deb) ...^M
Unpacking replacement x11-common ...^M
dpkg: warning: unable to delete old directory '/etc/gdm': Directory not empty^M

It's not clear to me why x11-common thinks it should remove /etc/gdm
(also not clear why I have /etc/gdm since this is a Kubuntu system
that's never had Ubuntu installed) or what was in there that prevented
it's removal. After the upgrade, the directory is, in fact, empty, so
this looks like some kind ofsequencing issue. Full term-log attached.

2011-08-03 Thread Robert Hooker
The xserver side of this (xrandr 1.4) did not make it into xserver 1.11
even and most likely will not make it into Ubuntu until the 12.10 time
frame given that if it is even completed for 1.12 that will be released
pretty late into the LTS cycle unfortunately.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820368] [NEW] Screen fonts unreadable - light and small

2011-08-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

System: kubuntu natty 11.04, kde-4.7, all latest updates applied

This began yesterday (03 Aug 2011) after the kernel/nvidia updates were
applied. There are two problems:

1. The fonts have become so light, that the screen is unreadable. The
problem appears to be that the characters are being rendered too thin. I
have to set the fonts to bold to make the screen useable at all. I have
tried changing font settings in systemsettings application appearance
fonts, both size and font style. I have also tried changing fonts --
the fonts do change, but the rendering problem remains. I have also
tried forcing the dpi setting, does not solve the problem. The problem
also exists in gtk applications like firefox, and changing the settings
in systemsettings does not fix it.

2. The fonts shrink in size. All steps mentioned in (1) tried.

Restarting X server, rebooting, etc, don't solve the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 575599] Re: Wacom Artpad 2 (serial tablet) is not recognized on lucid lynx

2011-08-03 Thread Favux
Legacy serial tablet support is available for Lucid and Maverick using a
patch set to add a modified linuxwacom serial driver to xf86-input-
wacom-0.10.6. See HOW TO Set Up a Wacom Serial Tablet in Ubuntu:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1780154

Additionally a new wacom_serial.ko (protocol 4) by tokenrove and
wacom_serial5.ko (protocol 5; Intuous and Intuos2) by roaldfre are being
developed. They are currently in a working testable form. These will
provide support for legacy serial tablets in Natty and later in
conjunction with inputattach. Links in the above HOW TO.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900

2011-08-03 Thread tabbernuk
I installed the update package 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.2 from natty-proposed
and it seems to make things better. At least on my laptop (915/910) I
haven't noticed corruption since upgrading the package (but this may
change in time, I cannot be sure).

But it's different on my desktop (945), where the new package probably
reduces the problem, but it still appears in previous form after some
time. When I set Tiling=false it reduces corruption a lot, but there
still appears some like before. Although I did notice it only in Ubuntu
menu bar (submenus were fine). When I set DebugWait=true instead of
Tiling=false, some of the games started doing a lot of hiccups and
were practically unusable (I tried teeworlds from GetDeb). Some
corruption appeared but was very episodical, by now I have noticed it
only on GDM logon background image. I'd say, for me Tiling=false seemed
a better workaround, because it didn't ruin the gaming experience and I
didn't notice too much slowing down.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900

2011-08-03 Thread tabbernuk
Just after writing that I noticed font corruption on my laptop (915/910)
login screen. I haven't set anything in xorg.conf on my laptop though.
If the corruptions have really been reduced, only time will tell, it
certainly seemed so at the beginning. But they have not been removed by
the new package or workarounds, that's for sure. DebugWait=true doesn't
seem a viable option for me, because it renders some of the graphically
more demanding programs unusable.

Thanks for the efforts though. If you have any suggestions how and what
more to test, I'm willing to help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820502] [NEW] Unity doesn't see xterm

2011-08-03 Thread David Owen
Public bug reported:

xterm can't be found by Dash, even though it's installed. Trying to pin
a running xterm to the Launcher does not work reliably.

Doing a Create Launcher... on the desktop allows xterm to be run then
pinned, until the .desktop file created on the desktop is deleted.

Manually creating a .desktop file in /usr/share/applications resolved
these issues. xterm should be packaged with a default .desktop file in
that location.

Also see bug #129041, originally filed to remove the .desktop file, but
with subsequent conversation requesting the file's return. Having this
new bug to track the request to bring it back will allow people to mark
affects me without giving the wrong impression.

** Affects: xterm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820368] Re: Screen fonts unreadable - light and small

2011-08-03 Thread doctordruidphd
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected kubuntu natty patch possible-manual-
nvidia-install

** Description changed:

2011-08-03 Thread doctordruidphd
Apport done.

Screenshot attached. They don't look so bad in the screenshots, but when
looking at the screen, especially black text against a light background,
the text is nearly impossible to read. It is as though the width of the
black pixels has been reduced.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 600178] Re: Screen tearing when dragging window, in videos and other large screen redraws (on nVidia GPU)

2011-08-03 Thread sanktnelson
have been annoyed by this for a while, but #45 fixed it for me, in
particular it seems to be the option

Enable Workarounds - Force full screen redrews (buffer swap) on repaint

in CCSM. Fixed tearing on the desktop and in OpenGL, didn't notice any
in videos in the first place.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 582809] Re: Synaptics Clickpad touchpad buttons are not working

2011-08-03 Thread Stephen Parry
I can confirm that the i386.deb posted here works on my HP tm2 2050
under Natty, except for the disable double tap and LED.

Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1, fw: 7.4, id: 0x1e0b1, caps:
0xd04773/0xe4/0x5a0400

Is there anything more I need to do to get the disable / LED function
working please?

Also recent mainstream kernel updates appear to have broken what support
I had under Lucid for the same machine. Previously I had right click
(right down on the lowest edge of the touchpad) now I don't; so but for
the efforts of you guys here, this bug is getting worse.

Thanks for everyone here's efforts in attempting to fix this.

Further experiments:

Tried booting with older kernel and nouveau driver -- same problem.
Tried unloading nvidia-current module and loading nouveau module -- same
problem (I did not remove anything from initramfs).

Tried booting a backup of the system made on 7/30/2011 - works properly.
