[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805700] Re: Natty&Oneiric - intel 82945G/GZ graphics card - Intel driver fails

2012-01-30 Thread Yohan Lee-tin-yien
Hello I'm a friend of Ghislain Bugnicourt,
and after a few tests here is what we understood :

While reading BootDmesg.txt

[8.246609] [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* failed to set render ring head to
zero ctl head tail start
[8.246624] [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render ring initialization failed
ctl head tail start
[8.246736] [drm:i915_driver_load] *ERROR* failed to init modeset
[8.285242] i915 :00:02.0: PCI INT A disabled
[8.285266] i915: probe of :00:02.0 failed with error -5

it seems to me that :
- i915 fails to load with KMS (Kernel Mode Setting), but somehow i915 is not
unloaded
- so for Xorg the "intel" driver does not work, it fallbacks to "vesa"

If modesetting is the culprit why not deactivate it ?
- the workaround to deactivate the modesetting through the start option
i915.modeset=0, removes the errors in dmesg
- But since recent Xorg requires modesetting, Xorg then fails to start

I think is that:
- the bug is either related to the BIOS or drm or i915
- at this point we should make a bug report on freedesktop
  ( http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html )

FYI: similar bug on bugzilla https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=727455
PS: the kernel module "intelfb" does work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 246840] Re: [i965] "Simple" Metacity theme rendered incorrectly

2012-01-30 Thread Chauncellor
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running
apport-collect and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 851612] Re: Logging out from a FUS session does not reliably return to VT7

2012-01-30 Thread Robert Ancell
Chris Halse Rogers had a look into this and he came to the conclusion
that adding a VT_WAITACTIVE after the VT_ACTIVATE ioctl may help the
situation. It looks like there is a race condition somewhere between
LightDM, the kernel, ConsoleKit and X and adding the VT_WAITACTIVE
either solves this (or hides it). Sebastian Bacher tried this patch and
it seemed to improve the situation for him, I've been running with that
patch today and it seems good too. So I've made that change to master.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 744187] Re: [g45] Black screen on boot acer travelmate 5735Z, intel gma 4500mh

2012-01-30 Thread sma
I have an Acer Travelmate 5735Z running Ubuntu 10.10 on it. Works fine.
The support period for Ubuntu 10.10 will end in April 2012 (so very
soon). Obviously this bug is not fixed yet. Because this bug is open for
so long, I don't believe, that this bug will be fixed in the next weeks.

So what shall I do in April 2012??? I will not upgrade Ubuntu unless
there is only a workaround for this problem (see #8). It's a terrible
situation. (Btw: The LTS version 10.04 is not an option to me, because
it doesn't work with my UMTS-stick)

I bought this Notebook, because all information said, that an intel
graphic chip works best with Linux. OK, the intel graphic chip is not
repsonsible for this bug, but I see the time running and nothing
happens.

What shall we users do, to "motivate" persons, to fix this bug???

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 41301] Re: Mouse clicks stop working sporadically

2012-01-30 Thread Isaac Ullah
Sean, while I appreciate that you took the time to try to provide an
answer, if you read the details of the bug, you will see that this is
clearly NOT a hardware issue. This bug affects ANY mouse plugged into
the computer, as well as the built-in track pad of the laptop. Thus,
simply getting a new mouse is NOT a fix, in any sense of the word.

Any other suggestions for workarounds?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813809] Re: Hybrid Graphics with Intel+fglrx is not supported

2012-01-30 Thread Nicolás Abel Carbone
@luca-casagrande

I tried it with an Envy 14 1st gen. Intel Ironlake/HD5650. It failed
like 11.11. Some people reported success with an Envy 14 2nd gen (Sandy
Bridge/HD6670) though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 782855] Re: missing pixels (horizontal lines) in font rendering

2012-01-30 Thread Jochen Fahrner
I found that it has something to do with font caching. I tried some
fonts for fixed font in Thunderbird. First I had "Andale mono" which was
very ugly. Then I siwtched to "Deja vu mono" which is perfect. When I
siwtched back to Andale mono this was also without problems.

2012-01-30 Thread Chauncellor
Hi, any that are affected. Is this issue still present in newer Ubuntu
versions?

Also, since this crash occurs with Mutter as well, it's obviously not
compiz's issue. If it is still existant, please raise this issue up to
nvidia (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 41301] Re: Mouse clicks stop working sporadically

2012-01-30 Thread Isaac Ullah
I am experiencing this bug on a System76 Pangolin P7 laptop. Bug was
first encountered in 11.04 after latest kernel upgrade
(3.0.0-15-generic), and upgrade to 11.10 did not help. I also tried a
clean install of linux mint 12, but bug was still there. So now I have
done a clean install of ubuntu 11.10, but the problem still persists, I
have tried the workaround suggested by Don Golding above (remove
mousetweaks), and it seemed to work for a little while, but the issue
came back. It seemed to be related to when I plugged in an external USB
sound card. Unplugging the sound card and rebooting does not cure the
problem now either...

IMO, this is a pretty serious bug. While I *can* use the computer, I
*can't* use it well, and some things don't work at all. For example,
even if I use the multiple right-click technique to bring focus to the
desktop, I can't double click on any of the icons, or even select them
with a single click, or drag them around. I can only right-click on
them, and select "open". Sometimes, the multiple-right-clcik technique
fails to ever bring the mouse focus to the desired window, and I have to
close it with Alt-F4.

Any ideas on another workaround, or info on an impending fix? I'd really
like to be rid of this super-annoying bug!!

Cheers,

~Isaac

2012-01-30 Thread John Frankland
Public bug reported:

xserver-xorg-video-all:amd64

x11-common:amd64

from 7.6+7ubuntu7 to 7.6+7ubuntu7.1.
after the next reboot both unity and gnome-shell desktops were
extremely slow and unresponsive, basically unusable.

i have reverted these packages to the previous 7.6+7ubuntu7 version

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745112]

2012-01-30 Thread Martin Pool
> xrandr --output DP1 --set audio off

looks good:

I plugged my laptop into the dock, and it came up at the medium
resolution it was running at earlier in the day. I ran that command,
and the screen blanked briefly, I guess while the dp link was
reestablished. I then used the displays panel to switch up to full
resolution and it worked.

So, 1/1. But, this has always been a bit intermittent, so more
testing might be needed.
