[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883421] Re: material accelaraion disappeared
What material acceleration does mean? After upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10, all graphics became very slow. When switching windows with Alt+Tab I even can see how windows are redrawing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 937706] Re: Oneiric unpredictable crashes straight out to login screen
Hi Fabio. Ubuntu crashed again (I was saving a PDF in Evince at the time) and I lost some work yet again. I ran the command as per your post #9. Thank you for your help with this. I really don't want to go back to Windows but I will be forced to soon as I cannot afford to keep losing work almost every day like this, so any help is greatly appreciated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/937706 Title: Oneiric unpredictable crashes straight out to login screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/937706/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 937706] Re: Oneiric unpredictable crashes straight out to login screen
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected oneiric running-unity ubuntu ** Description changed: Ubuntu 11.10 crashes on an almost daily basis, and I'm doing various different things when it does so, so I can't easily identify what's to blame. But it always happens the same way: it goes instantaneously to the black screen of death (which looks like a logout) and thence to the login screen. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 941708] Re: system crashes (freezes) while LibreOffice is running
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 ubuntu ** Description changed: While libreoffice is running, the whole system crashes randomly. There is no regularity and it happens at least with libreoffice writer, calc, draw and impress. It happens, even when the libreoffice window is not focused or on top of other windows. Sometimes it happens after minutes, sometimes after hours. I can not see any relation to the functions I use in libreoffice. It happens also, when working with some very basic spreadsheets without importing pictures, graphs or whatsoever. Also, I can not detect any significant changes in CPU or memory usage, just before it happens. I can only tell, that it might be a bug in libreoffice, as this only happens while libreoffice is running. I am observing this for about half a year now. The symptoms: * Everything is frozen. The windows and buttons do not react any more. Actually I think the mouse disappears (I am not sure on that). * I can not change to an other terminal. * I case some sound or music was playing it continues. * I can not restart X via CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE any more The only thing I can do is to switch off my computer (by pressing the power button for a long time). This bug makes libreoffice unreliable on this system and working with it can be quite frustrating, as all unsaved changes are lost! $lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 11.04 Release: 11.04 $apt-cache policy libreoffice libreoffice: Installiert: (keine) Kandidat:1:3.3.4-0ubuntu1 Versionstabelle: 1:3.3.4-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty-updates/universe amd64 Packages 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu4 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/universe amd64 Packages ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: libreoffice-core 1:3.3.4-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-13.55-generic 2.6.38.8 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-13-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon Feb 27 02:01:11 2012 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Release amd64 (20110427.1) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=de_DE:en LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: libreoffice UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to natty on 2011-09-25 (154 days ago) + --- + Architecture: amd64 + CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' + CompositorRunning: compiz + DistUpgraded: Log time: 2011-09-25 16:06:46.298574 + DistroCodename: natty + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 + DistroVariant: ubuntu + DkmsStatus: + bcmwl, 5.100.82.38+bdcom, 2.6.38-12-generic, x86_64: installed + bcmwl, 5.100.82.38+bdcom, 2.6.38-13-generic, x86_64: installed + bcmwl, 5.100.82.38+bdcom, 2.6.38-11-generic, x86_64: installed + EcryptfsInUse: Yes + GraphicsCard: + Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) +Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:161d] + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Release amd64 (20110427.1) + MachineType: Hewlett-Packard HP ProBook 6460b + NonfreeKernelModules: wl + Package: xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3.2 + PackageArchitecture: amd64 + ProcEnviron: + LANGUAGE=de_DE:en + PATH=(custom, no user) + LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-13-generic root=UUID=591551af-239b-442e-a423-f8ee2f1975c5 ro vga=799 quiet splash vt.handoff=7 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-13.55-generic 2.6.38.8 + Renderer: Unknown + Tags: natty ubuntu compiz-0.9 + Uname: Linux 2.6.38-13-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to natty on 2011-09-25 (154 days ago) + UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lpadmin plugdev sambashare + dmi.bios.date: 04/27/2011 + dmi.bios.vendor: Hewlett-Packard + dmi.bios.version: 68SCE Ver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 941708] Re: system crashes (freezes) while LibreOffice is running
Please notice, that the debug information I just added, has not been recorded just after a crash, as I just restarted my system. But I have been asked to add this kind of debugging information in comment #2. Also I have been asked to attach this information: $lspci -nn | grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09) Shall I submit this debug information again, just after a crash, or is it not relevant? As the crash does not appear regularly, and I avoid to use libreoffice, because of it's annoying behaviour, it might take a while (weeks?) until I can provide this information. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/941708 Title: system crashes (freezes) while LibreOffice is running To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/941708/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 938555] Re: Display memory is not cleared on reboot
I set the security flag because there's clearly information disclosure here - in this instance it was me logging in to a computer only I had previously used, so I saw items from my own prior sessions. In other circumstances, this might be a shared machine and the person seeing my desktop icons and fragments of windows I had used in prior sessions might be less well-intentioned. Note also that it is not necessarily only the previous session that is disclosed - there have been instances where I've recognised notification bubbles from several days previous, despite having rebooted in the interim. I shudder to think what might happen if I were to present at a public conference and have fragments of the Ubuntu One source or pages from Canonical's internal wiki flashed on the projector. I urge you to reconsider. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/938555 Title: Display memory is not cleared on reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/938555/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 941470] [NEW] Resolution for external monitor missing in list for DFP1
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I use a Thinkpad R500 (1680x1050) with a docking station and an external monitor (1920x1200) attached to it. When I boot the Thinkpad and later attach it to the docking station, then the highest resolution in the arandr DFP1 list is 1600x1200. This means I have to reboot the system, as a boot right from the docking station gives me the 1920x1200 I need for the external monitor. I also want to point out that this has worked well for a long time, until I had to reinstall my Xubuntu a couple of weeks ago. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 906987] Re: syndaemon polls 5 times a second even though it is started with the -R XRecord extension option
Yeah -R was way too unstable to continue enabling and it was even disabled in a SRU in natty (the one release that ever had it enabled) because of it. This could be worked around easily by calling syndaemon with -m 500 in gnome-settings-daemon which is responsible for spawning it, with a patch like the attached one. The problem is the syndaemon man page warns about pitfalls of too high values so getting this right might take some trial and effort introducing bugs to people and I'm not sure 5 wakeups/second is worth it. -m poll-interval How many milliseconds to wait between two polling intervals. If this value is too low, it will cause unnecessary wake-ups. If this value is too high, some key presses (press and release happen between two intervals) may not be noticed. This switch has no effect when running with -R. Default is 200ms. ** Patch added: launch syndaemon with an increased poll interval in gnome-settings-daemon https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/906987/+attachment/2788500/+files/0001-Increase-syndaemon-poll-interval-to-500ms.patch ** Also affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/906987 Title: syndaemon polls 5 times a second even though it is started with the -R XRecord extension option To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-power-consumption/+bug/906987/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 942152] [NEW] Choppy scrolling, weird menus
Public bug reported: I'm running Firefox 10.0.2 on my 64-bit 4-core AMD system, with Thunderbird too. In both Mozilla products, I'm having these problems: 1) mouse scrolling is rough and uneven, very choppy. 2) Menus appear in top bar when I hover there, as expected. But when I click on one, it doesn't drop down, or hesitates, or takes several clicks, then may fade in and out. I also have a Windows hard drive in this same machine. I run the same Firefox and Thunderbird in that environment, and do not have these problems. What to do? Public bug reported: Today I bought a new monitor. I had the resolution of 1024x768 on my old one, now I want 1440x900. I used system settings to set the new resolution, but after re-login I see 1024x768. I used nvidia-settings to set the new resolution, but after re-login I see 1024x768. Before doing that, I deleted xorg.conf. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 938770] Re: Desktop becomes completely unresponsive
I've been trying some different things today, and I found that if I downgrade mesa to 7.11-0ubuntu4 I've so far been unable to reproduce the issue. The problem has been elusive at times before though, so it's not definite, but I've gone back and forth between mesa versions a number of times and I've been able to consistently reproduce the issue with the newer mesa but not the older. I'm going to go ahead and add a mesa task at this point to see if we can get anywhere. ** Also affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/938770 Title: Desktop becomes completely unresponsive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/938770/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
