[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 927155] Re: [snb-m-gt2+] Viewsonic VA2012w not correctly detected (Invalid EDID)
Hi Bryce, Thinking back over the history of this display. It was previously one of a pair of identical screens each plugged into ports on an nVidia 7900 in twinview. So I would have always had an xorg.conf to maintain the twinview settings and 3360x1050 resolution. I have also just tested a 12.04 live CD with the screen attached to another nVidia based desktop and I get the same problem, so it does look like a monitor-specific thing rather than a video-card related issue, and may well not be a regression after all. I will try the other things you suggest though. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/927155 Title: [snb-m-gt2+] Viewsonic VA2012w not correctly detected (Invalid EDID) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/927155/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 940564] Re: nvidia-graphics-drivers (295.20-0ubuntu1), is causing failed restarts & shutdowns
Decided to revisit this on a new 2 day old Beta1 install Was using the .10 drivers from the get go, fully updated regularly, no restart/shutdown issues. Updated nvidia-current tonight to the .20, just like clockwork after 3 normal restarts over the course of an hr. or the 4th one failed. Again here now real issue for 12.04, likely that the .10 package will remain viable for install. Just wonder if this may become more than a rare issue once the user hardware base increases, time will tell I guess there would be no consideration of making the .10 driver 'nvidia-current' & making use of nvidia-current-updates for .20 or higher -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/940564 Title: nvidia-graphics-drivers (295.20-0ubuntu1), is causing failed restarts & shutdowns To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/940564/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948234] Re: xorg intel driver returns less than 3fps in glxspheres test
Hi Bryce, I do not think this has anything to do with the NVidia card. There is unfortunately no option to turn the card off in the BIOS. The reason I believe it has nothing to do with the NVidia card, is because I recently had the same hardware setup running in Arch Linux, and the intel card tested fine on glxspheres. I am not experiencing issues with bumblebee. Please do not mark the bug as invalid before you have taken the time to try and understand the issue. I know this is crunch time for the devs, because you want to meet the deadlines before 12.04 is released, but automatically shifting the blame to bumblebee doesn't count as squashing a bug. The glxspheres was run against my intel card after I purged the bumblebee install from my system. Glxspheres reports an inferior frame rate as opposed to results I got on Arch Linux previously. It should be capped at 30 fps; I'm getting 2.9 max fps (note with bumblebee not even installed on my pc). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 927155] Re: [snb-m-gt2+] Viewsonic VA2012w not correctly detected (Invalid EDID)
Hi Alan, I notice this is tagged 'regression'. Can you tell me when it first started cropping up? It would be useful to boot an earlier Ubuntu version from when it was working properly, and collect the EDID (ala 'xrandr --verbose' or get- edid from the read-edid package) for comparison. Booting a livecd should be sufficient. Is there any difference between plugging the monitor in with the system booted, vs. plugging it in while off and then booting? This doesn't look like an rc6 type of bug, but it is sandybridge graphics. I think you may have filed this from before when that got switched on. If not, you may as well try booting with it off and see if it makes any difference. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/PowerManagementRC6 On the off chance it's a video card hardware-specific problem, any chance you can appropriate a different laptop or PC and see what EDID it's able to get? ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/927155 Title: [snb-m-gt2+] Viewsonic VA2012w not correctly detected (Invalid EDID) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/927155/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

For GPU lockup bugs with Intel graphics, you need to collect the output of 'dmesg' and your /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state file. Both of these must be collected while the machine is locked up (e.g. by sshing into the sick machine over ethernet). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 938653] Re: [snb-m-gt2] applications fail to redraw
Well, you have a sandybridge card, which suggests testing turning off rc6. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/PowerManagementRC6. Aside from that, since you know that it happened on a specific day (2/21), that suggests downgrading to the versions of the packages you'd had installed before, that I mentioned in comment #2. However those are tough packages to downgrade, so I wouldn't recommend trying it unless you have plenty of time and fortitude. I did scan through the changelogs for those and didn't see anything that struck me as relevant but who knows. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/938653 Title: [snb-m-gt2] applications fail to redraw To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/938653/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 905686] Re: nautilus assert failure: nautilus: ../../src/xcb_io.c:528: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed.
XCB is a single-threaded protocol, and when called from a multi-threaded client application, that client needs to take care that its calls are properly thread-safe. Otherwise, it can trip assertions in the XCB code. Which would mean this is not really a *bug* in xcb (any more than a syntax error would be a bug in gcc), but that xcb is catching a bug in the client application. Indeed, the assertion error text from xcb spell out the threading issue (or other similar issues commonly hit in code calling xcb_io.c functionality.) However, lots of code is MT and xcb is just too fragile, and the error text makes it look like the crash was in X so these issues tend to get filed against X components rather than investigated as client bugs. But I don't have a good idea what should be done on the X side. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946677] Re: UMS dri support missing for r200
Thanks Robert for the qick reply! Is this a can't fix/won't fix situation then? I remember reading on phoronix ( http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=OTg0Mg ) that large chunks of code were being deleted, is this the case with r200? Or is it possible for the user just to tweak some setting and recompile? A follow up article on phoronix ( http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTAxMDE ) mentions the possibility of a mesa-old-dri-drivers package. Do you know if this is going to be implemented? I can't find it, but I'm generally rubbish at finding packages! The screen corruption issue is a known regression in unity-greeter. Are you using the default screensaver (that just shows a blank screen and clock), or xscreensaver, or something else? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 940564] Re: nvidia-graphics-drivers (295.20-0ubuntu1), is causing failed restarts & shutdowns
** Description changed: It's possible that this is an extreme corner case, (my hardware), 8400m chipsets in general or a bit more widespread. So i'm opening this report in case it's one of the latter 2 It occurs like this: After the install or upgrading to the .20 drivers shutdowns/restarts works as expected. This lasts for at least 3 normal uses of either, by normal I mean boot up, use the session a bit, then do a shutdown or restart. Somewhere between the 4 - 8 attepmt either a shutdown or restart fails to complete properly. - Once this occurs it then continues for all subsequent attempts, there may be an occasional exception to that, if needed I can relay, in any event the respite is only temporary, basically a reset of the above + Once this occurs it then continues for all subsequent attempts, there may be an occasional exception to that, if needed I can relay, in any event the respite is only temporary, basically a reset of the above - What happens is this - + What happens is this - My normal shut down or restart takes about 2.5 sec's, after clicking either the restart or shutdown button there is a screen flash, then a plymouth splash for 2 sec's, then the machine either shuts down or restarts as normal. When it fails - as soon as the button is clicked the display is immediately shut off, there is harddrive activity for about 2 sec's, then nothing else. The machine remains powered on, the harddrive stays spinning, all else is like it was shutdown. Recovery is only possible holding the power button down for 10 sec's to affect a forced power off Have tested completly here with multiple installs, both from A2 upgraded & any number of installs from the dailies, same exact thing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 uninstallable on Precise
We do anticipate getting one more -nvidia release prior to Precise shipping, and hope that will include an updated -173. Maybe we'll get -96 too but hard to say; that appears to get attention less frequently, so we might have to drop it. In any case, I think we should wait on dropping these until closer to final freeze, so we can see what NVIDIA puts out. Is it possible for us to toggle off -173 and -96 from being shown in jockey until we think it'll work? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948234] Re: xorg intel driver returns less than 3fps in glxspheres test
In retrospect I think it might be a problem with glxspheres. I installed a opengl based game to see if the bad performance extends to that (Billard-GL), but the game performs fine. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 947704] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT - user switching
Hi Noel, Unfortunately no good stack trace was collected automatically for this bug. We've had a few others of these SIGABRTs in the last week (bug 946576, bug 945556, bug 945963, bug 944331), all with truncated stack traces like yours, but you appear to be the only one that gets the crashes semi-reliably.
