[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 947350] Re: Display wont go higher than 1024x768

2012-03-06 Thread Timo Aaltonen
You are using xorg-edgers, don't do that if you value stability.

Please test vanilla 12.04beta, boot the livecd and test the second
monitor there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 410262] Re: [VX800]openchrome hangs when the mouse cursor is inside of a image in gimp

2012-03-06 Thread Thomas Schlichter
With the release of the new package I did happily see that the patch from
revision 921 (which fixed the problem for me) was added.
Unfortunately I had to realize that also xaa_solid.patch was added what
re-introduced the gimp-hang for me. I was also reporting that upstream in bug
354, and thus this second patch was not applied upstream.

  http://openchrome.org/trac/ticket/354

So please revert 101_xaa_solid.patch, as this re-introduces this bug
for me!

P.S.: For me it is 100% reproducible be using the scissors-tool in gimp.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 943643] Re: Fonts are blurry after the installation of Nvidia driver using jockey

2012-03-06 Thread fmo
I have fixed the problem, for some reason when I installed the drivers
it created a graphical mode for my monitor in 1680x1050 at 60Hz that did
not work.

Using nvidia-settings as root I switched the mode frequency to Auto and
applied and it fixed the problem straight away. I saved the setting in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf and now everything is clear again.

The question now is what did it do that on a fresh install

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577073] Re: System freeze when using EXA with radeon driver

2012-03-06 Thread Lars
Good morning!

I'm already using:

$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=11.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=oneiric
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 11.10

$ uname -a
Linux taeuber 3.0.0-16-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 27 17:44:39 UTC 2012
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

And my only working org.conf contains this section:

Section Device
Identifier PCI
BusID PCI:3:7:0
Driver radeon
Screen 0
Option Monitor-DVI-0 Eizo22
Option Monitor-DVI-1 Eizo24
Option TripleBuffer true
Option Accel Off
EndSection

Additionally I've disabled all the glx functions:

Section ServerFlags
Option AIGLX false
Option DontZap false
EndSection

Section Module
Disable glx
EndSection

I don't have xv support which is _really_ bad!
But it's usable for normal office programms.
It wasn't better with any earlier ubuntu version.
I've tested to change all the settings after every upgrade.
The system is pingable but X11 isn't working.

Thanks for your care.
Lars

Hi,
Having similar problem on a thin client with Intel 945GSE and Atom N270 CPU.
We can only get up to 1280x1024 resolution although it supports up to 1920x1200.

Confirmed it is the same problem on Ubuntu/Kubuntu, both 11.10 12.04

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 783993] Re: unity freezing periodicly [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id

2012-03-06 Thread Ivo Roghair
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 808384 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/808384

I'm experiencing the same issue as mentioned as in several comments,
specifically #13, #14, #39, that is using gnome-shell on 11.10; I
especially get a freeze of the shell when scrolling (w/ mouse wheel or
by pressing middle button and dragging the document) through a PDF in
evince, but I also got it once in firefox. I can go to a VT and usually
I restart the lightdm service to get back to my desktop. I am now on the
v3.3-rc6-precise kernel and I could still reproduce the freeze by
grabbing a PDF document in evince with the middle mouse button and then
shifting it around like a maniac.

Some other remarks:
. My laptop has an ATI Mobility Radeon X2300 (ATI was also mentioned earlier in
this report so I wonder why only intel drivers have been tagged here).
. I really don't see how this is a duplicate of #808384, it seems like a
completely different issue, except that there's an error message in kern.log:
[drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id. This error sometimes, not
always, occurs in kern.log right after a freeze.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 933322] Re: LightDM graphic corruption with ati and nvidia

2012-03-06 Thread Zach
I reported what was marked as a duplicate of bug 931967, but I think it
may apply here too, since I'm using AMD Radeon 6310 graphics. I'm using
12.04 Beta 1, and using the fglrx driver. You can see the full details
from apport and a photo under bug 947200.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 938981] Re: Xorg freeze when starting Firefox

2012-03-06 Thread mr. dump
Same problem. Started to happen after the (automatic) upgrade to firefox 10, in
my case on February 14.
As the OP, crashes sometimes manifest as Xorg restarts, other times system
freezes completely, showing a black rectangle on top left of the screen. It is
deterministic: it always the third time I open Firefox (tabs do not count)

firefox is 10.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.10.04.1
fglrx is 2:8.930-0ubuntu1 (package build from ati installer)
ubuntu is 10.04 (32bits)

ATI Radeon HD5450 graphics card

I use 3D design tools like Blender with no problem.

kern.log is full of entries like:

2012-03-06 Thread Martin Pitt
This is known. There currently is no release in the -96 or 173 series
which is compatible with our X.org server.

X.org team, do you know if there ever will be? If not, we can just as
well remove these versions from the archive.

2012-03-06 Thread John Fettig
This also happens in Oneiric with nvidia drivers 280.13 (installed by
package nvidia-current) and

VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GT218 [GeForce 210] (rev
a2)

I applied the changes suggested by vseguip using the tool ccsm
provided by the package compizconfig-settings-manager (you have to go
into advanced search and search for the terms he provided). When I
logged out and logged back in, the problem was gone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 931967] Re: Corrupted graphics after the login until the unity launcher appears

2012-03-06 Thread Doug McMahon
This 1st occurred with the upgrade of unity-greeter to unity-greeter
0.2.1-0ubuntu1 though I believe the issue has been identified as being
in lightdm

Unfortunately it's not that straightforward to test reverting back to
that version due to dep changes with g-s-d, ect.

(if one was to install the gtk-greeter, switch to it for 1 restart,
then switch back to the unity-greeter the 'corruption' will usually go
away for a restart or 2, then start creeping back in

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 931967] Re: Corrupted graphics after the login until the unity launcher appears

2012-03-06 Thread Daniel Dadap
If it's true that similar issues show up in Nouveau, and on AMD boards
(radeon? fglrx?), then it probably makes the most sense to track down
the regression better first. There's still a chance that there could be
bugs in all of the affected drivers that are causing this, but it would
be great if we could begin investigating with some more solid
information about the problem first.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 947350] Re: Display wont go higher than 1024x768

2012-03-06 Thread Matthew
Okay, I booted from my beta 12.04 CD. The splash logo is perfectly fine,
but once it gets to the loading screen it has borders on each end of the
TV. I can uncheck the Mirror Display to somewhat fix the problem, it is
just too big. The Unity Bar is barely visible, and I can't even see the
time or the System Settings menu. This was done with no updates, just a
fresh boot from the official beta.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948234] [NEW] xorg intel driver returns less than 3fps in glxspheres test

2012-03-06 Thread RichardHDF
Public bug reported:

After a fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 beta 1, I upgraded all my packages
and proceeded to install bumblebee as I have an Nvidia Optimus equipped
laptop. After installing bumblebee, I ran through the test to see if it
works, and came upon this problem: for my intel graphics card the frame
rate never exceeds 2.9 frames per second. The performance of glxspheres
is extremely sluggish and Unity struggles when I have flash playing in
the internet browser and I try to switch between windows. This is not
normal, as my laptop is quite powerful (Intel Core i7 with 4GB of ram
and the intel graphics card is an HD 3000 if I'm not mistaken). I was
wondering if this might have anything to do with the RC6 that was
enabled by default in the kernel included with beta 1.

I have subsequently removed bumblebee on my machine and ran glxspheres
again. The problem still persists.

To reproduce this error on my system:

1. open terminal
2. run glxspheres for a few iterations

Unfortunately I did not test glxspheres before installing bumblebee the
first time around, so I do not know if bumblebee maybe messed up an
Intel graphics driver related setting in the installation process.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 947833] Re: When copying selection to clipboard in LibreOffice Calc 'X' process begining to eat 100% cpu

2012-03-06 Thread Alexander
Maybe you have anti-aliasing option disabled in LibreOffice?
Xorg begins to eat cpu immediately right after I've pressed Ctrl+C (copied
something to clipboard in Calc). And continue eating cpu all the time until I
close Calc completely (sometimes Ctrl+Alt+F1-F7 helps - toggling to console and
back).
Everything works fine until I have this copied cells animation displayed in
Calc.
And as I've said earlier with anti-aliasing disabled in Calc - no cpu eating.
Everything begins to work as expected. So this is some kind of anti-alias
problem/bug.
xorg.conf file I've created manually with nvidia configuration utility. Could
this be the problem in xorg.conf? Or in xinerama.
Also LibreOffice draws its interface natively - I neither installed
libreoffice-gtk nor libreoffice-gnome.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 947704] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT - user switching

2012-03-06 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Noel,

Unfortunately no good stack trace was collected automatically for this
bug. We've had a few others of these SIGABRTs in the last week (bug
946576, bug 945556, bug 945963, bug 944331), all with truncated stack
traces like yours, but you appear to be the only one that gets the
crashes semi-reliably.

Would you mind collecting a full backtrace on this crash - see
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for guidance.

Is there any way I can run some tests to see what the source of the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 uninstallable on Precise

2012-03-06 Thread Bryce Harrington
We do anticipate getting one more -nvidia release prior to Precise
shipping, and hope that will include an updated -173. Maybe we'll get
-96 too but hard to say; that appears to get attention less frequently,
so we might have to drop it.

In any case, I think we should wait on dropping these until closer to
final freeze, so we can see what NVIDIA puts out.

Is it possible for us to toggle off -173 and -96 from being shown in
jockey until we think it'll work? Might help quell some of the bug
reports we get.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948324] [NEW] Xorg loads omapfb module, then unloads it and uses fbdev instead (beagleboard-xm)

2012-03-06 Thread asohangh
Public bug reported:

This occurs after installing xserver-xorg-video-omap3 on a BeagleBoard-
xM running 12.04 Beta 1+updates. Xorg seems to detect and try to load
the omapfb driver, unloads it without specifying any error codes, and
then proceeds to use fbdev

It looks like it loads/unloads omapfb several times sometimes specifying that
it was already loaded:
(II) Failed to load module omapfb (already loaded, -1197656048)

At some point it tells me the following:
[ 4297.213] (II) omapfb: Driver for OMAP framebuffer (omapfb) and external LCD
controllers:
omap1/2/3, S1D13745, HWA742
[ 4297.214] (II) FBDEV: driver for framebuffer: fbdev
[  4297.214] (++) using VT number 7

[ 4297.214] (WW) Falling back to old probe method for OMAPFB
[ 4297.214] (EE) OMAPFBProbe: Found 0 device sections.

I've attached my entire Xorg.0.log

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 940564] Re: nvidia-graphics-drivers (295.20-0ubuntu1), is causing failed restarts shutdowns

2012-03-06 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

It's possible that this is an extreme corner case, (my hardware), 8400m
chipsets in general or a bit more widespread.
So i'm opening this report in case it's one of the latter 2

  It occurs like this:
After the install or upgrading to the .20 drivers shutdowns/restarts works as
expected.
This lasts for at least 3 normal uses of either, by normal I mean boot up,
use the session a bit, then do a shutdown or restart.

Somewhere between the 4 - 8 attepmt either a shutdown or restart fails to
complete properly.
- Once this occurs it then continues for all subsequent attempts, there may be
an occasional exception to that, if needed I can relay, in any event the
respite is only temporary, basically a reset of the above
+ Once this occurs it then continues for all subsequent attempts, there may be
an occasional exception to that, if needed I can relay, in any event the
respite is only temporary, basically a reset of the above

- What happens is this -
+ What happens is this -
My normal shut down or restart takes about 2.5 sec's, after clicking either
the restart or shutdown button there is a screen flash, then a plymouth splash
for 2 sec's, then the machine either shuts down or restarts as normal.

When it fails - as soon as the button is clicked the display is immediately
shut off, there is harddrive activity for about 2 sec's, then nothing else.
The machine remains powered on, the harddrive stays spinning, all else is
like it was shutdown. Recovery is only possible holding the power button down
for 10 sec's to affect a forced power off

Have tested completly here with multiple installs, both from A2 upgraded
any number of installs from the dailies, same exact thing.

Meanwhile this never occurs with the .10 driver, which baring this just
'going away' will be the one I'll use, now come release

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 943836] Re: Xorg freeze

2012-03-06 Thread Bryce Harrington
The screen corruption issue is a known regression in unity-greeter.

Are you using the default screensaver (that just shows a blank screen
and clock), or xscreensaver, or something else?

None of your logs show an error; could you reproduce the fault, attach
gdb to the Xorg process, and collect a backtrace? That may indicate
where X is stuck. See http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for
guidance.

Sometimes these types of bugs are caused by compiz plugins. Can you
reproduce this when using unity-2d?
