[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770283] Re: [fglrx]title bar does not update on non-maximized windows
So a new version of fglrx (8.960), that doesn't officially exist, has been pushed into precise. I excitedly install the upgrade and reboot, hoping that this will finally put an end to this issue. Of course not. The problem affects compiz whether running Unity or Gnome Classic. Radeon driver doesn't have this issue. I agree with the above post that this issue needs to be escalated with AMD. It has existed for a very long time (April 2011), and its obviously very difficult to track down, or not being taken seriously enough. Either way, it's very annoying. 104 people have now marked it as affecting them. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/770283 Title: [fglrx]title bar does not update on non-maximized windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/770283/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 932781] Re: [x-updates] Nvidia 295.20 regression - Gnome Shell becomes crashy
The problems I had with the 295.20 and Gnome SHell were resolved with the 295.33 update. The NVIDIA Linux forum presently contains only two bug reports, one about an error in the driver installation script, which probably doesn't concern us because we install the drivers using a package manager, and the other one is about X crashes on a Clevo M571RU-U notebook (with Ubuntu 11.10). Someone should probably do an extensive testing of 295.33 with Compiz. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/932781 Title: [x-updates] Nvidia 295.20 regression - Gnome Shell becomes crashy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/932781/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 627862] [NEW] USB Mouse freezes randomly but consistently
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Mouse (USB) freezes during X session at random intervals (between 1min and 5 hours apart). Only known workaround is to reboot when it happens. Mouse only freezes when being used, if the computer is unattended, no freezing will occur. It has occurred in Ubuntu 9.10 and now 10.04 (i believe 9.04 was OK). Ive running the latest updates in the 10.04 build. I can continue to use the system via the keyboard (USB). I have found that if two mice are connected before one locks up, the second will continue to work for a time, but is still susceptible to the above. Once the mouse stops working, replugging into alternate USB ports or the same does not fix it. Ive scanned the following logs after the event and I find no useful info: * /var/log/Xorg.0.log * /var/log/messages * /var/log/daemon.log The kernel log does not have any info immediately after the event, but after around two minutes, the following appears: Sep 1 15:37:06 quantum kernel: [89521.010037] INFO: task khubd:44 blocked for more than 120 seconds. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 964662] [NEW] Update to xserver files causes failure to boot
Public bug reported: Updates to xserver-common and/or xserver-xorg-core currently available in Update Manager result in a failure to boot. The display screen remains completely black and no further action seems possible. By a process of elimination, all other updates received over the past few days having been installed successfully, the problem has been identified as the two noted files. These are now (25-Mar-12) the sole remaining updates; however, installing them causes the failure to boot condition. The problem is repeatable once a prior disk partition image has been restored. Description:Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS Release:10.04 The following reports are generated using the pre-updated versions of the xserver files (i.e. versions of the software that do allow the computer to boot): xserver-common: Installed: 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.10 Candidate: 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.11 Version table: 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.11 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages *** 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.10 0 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-security/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages xserver-common: Installed: 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.10 Candidate: 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.11 Version table: 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.11 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages *** 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.10 0 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-security/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages toaster@Dell-XPS8300:~$ ^C toaster@Dell-XPS8300:~$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg-core: Installed: 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.10 Candidate: 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.11 Version table: 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.11 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages *** 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.10 0 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-security/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.10 [modified: usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so] ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-40.87-generic 2.6.32.57+drm33.23 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-40-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx wl Architecture: amd64 Date: Sun Mar 25 13:01:12 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release amd64 (20110720.1) MachineType: Dell Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 964671] [NEW] Unity 3D not loading, must load 2D through grub recovery
Public bug reported: I recently updated my system (12.04 Beta) through the software update (upper right corner of desktop) Since that update, when I boot my laptop (since the initial reboot after upgrade) I can only see my desktop wallpaper, and the pointer, nothing else. To get anything to run, during boot, I need to select recovery from the grub menu, then on the text menu, select boot normal, in order to boot into Unity 2D, where everything seems to work okay, however I can not shrink my launcher icons. MyUnity says it is in 2D only mode. I do not have any proprietary Radeon drivers installed (I checked via Ubuntu website how to uninstall). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Changing refresh rate is done via nvidia-settings dialog instead of the gnome displays settings one for these drivers, sorry you got caught up in an automated bug bot fight :) The livecd uses nouveau and the gnome settings applet works there, you checked enable third party drivers during the install so it automatically installed nvidia again after. ** Package changed: xorg-server (Ubuntu) = nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/958439 Title: Doesn't detect monitor / Unknown, causes flickering / low refresh rate To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/958439/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 962773] Re: Xorg freezes when a player plays a video
To eliminate one hypothesis, I followed the instructions from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- openchrome/+bug/760743/comments/11 . However, nothing happened. This is what i did: $ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-video-openchrome $ sudo apt-get install build-essential autoconf automake1.9 libtool git xutils xutils-dev subversion checkinstall $ sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-openchrome $ mkdir compilations $ cd compilatons/ $ svn checkout http://svn.openchrome.org/svn/trunk openchrome $ cd openchrome/ $ svn update -r920 $ ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr --enable-debug --enable-xv-debug $ make $ sudo checkinstall -D At this point I received this message: * Debian package creation selected *** * *** Warning: The package version 0.2.904 0.2.904 0.2.904 0.2.904 is not a *** Warning: debian policy compliant one. Please specify an alternate one So, I typed: 0.2.904 In the end, I received this message, saying that installation was ok: ** Done. The new package has been installed and saved to /home/flaviano/compilations/openchrome/openchrome_0.2.904-1_i386.deb You can remove it from your system anytime using: dpkg -r openchrome ** Next, I edited xorg.conf: $ sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf Section Device Identifier Configured Video Device Driver openchrome EndSection So, I restarted my notebook, but I got another freeze when I tryed to play a video. The least bad workaround was disable dri in xorg.conf, like this: $ sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf Section Device Identifier Configured Video Device Driver openchrome EndSection Section Module Disabledri EndSection But I got a very poor performance. Now, there is no freeze and I can watch videos, but many of them are showed without audio synchrony. I installed Ubuntu Lucid in dual-boot and I have the same problems. In Bug #760743, the bug affects Ubuntu 11.04 and after and playing videos doesn't freeze ubuntu, but only make it restart. I don't know why, but Update r920 from openchrome trunk didn't help my problem too. If disabling dri freezes stops, maybe my problem is mesa drivers and not openchrome drivers. Any suggestion? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/962773 Title: Xorg freezes when a player plays a video To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/+bug/962773/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

It is fast, and it has seemingly full compatibility with Gnome-Shell now, though possibly still a bit slow. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/879522 Title: FGLRX installed but it seems to be still Vesa in use To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/879522/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 964944] [NEW] GPU lockup during the first login after reboot
Public bug reported: OS: 10.04.04 xorg: 7.5+5ubuntu1.1 Every reboot exhibits the same behavior: name and PW are accepted, but the session terminates during the welcome sound, and goes back to the login window. A second attempt almost always succeeds, and logins are normal until the next reboot. This laptop has been in service for a couple of years, running 10.04 LTS with updates (currently 10.04.04) throughout, and this problem only started a few months ago. I have captured some files with a console login. I put some logs in pastebin.com (they don't tell me much, I hope they help you) Xorg.0.log is at http://pastebin.com/38syicdp Xorg.0.log.old is at http://pastebin.com/NgxzkSia .xsession-errors is full of applications saying the X server died.
