[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987153] Re: Xorg freeze
Hi Ildefonso Camargo. Sorry not to have replied earlier. To me this bug has been going through 11.10 on to 12.04, it started after one of the upgrades of Catalyst Centre, (I think around 12.1). Now i have tried with the proprietary drive offered in Jockey and it's still locking up 2-3 times a day. I have not been able to determine what causes the lockups, but if I un-install the proprietary drive and uses the opensource Radeon drive the lockups stops. Now reverting back to 11.10. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment monitor multiplemonitor precise -- second monitor crashes system when plugged in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/989347 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 997449] Re: libre office calc garbled window screen when resized
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Whenever I have to resize my Calc window, it's window is garbled from the screen. The menus themselves are still accessible by their shortcut keys (if you remember them). If you further resize the window to a much smaller one, the menus and the top bar disappears entirely The workaround I found is to use ALT-SPACEBAR to access the window menu then maximize the window again. Next is to access the window menu again and select restore to get back to the window size you want. It doesn't crash libre office but you lose your GUI. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987153] Re: Xorg freeze
Hi Hansen, No, my CPU is A8-3850 (no external video card, just the included HD 6550D). Also, I have to inform that after almost 7 hours idle the machine didn't crashed. I disabled power management (ie, left only the screen saver, but screen is never put to sleep). Also, before the update to 12.04 turning off V-sync would cure the problem for me (also, avoiding fully preemptive kernel, ie: forced preemption enabled would cause a certain freeze). My kernel right now has voluntary preemption (one of the attempts to fix the problem was to use a custom kernel, right now I'm using a custom-built 3.2.16 kernel). If the machine doesn't freeze for the rest of the day, I'll reboot and switch to Ubuntu kernel to test there too. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 994945] Re: Xorg freeze upon upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 - system unusable
The 11.10 CD would not install from Try It mode. The box hung again with the same symptoms: no keyboard and mouse (both are USB) and the display frozen in some odd resolution. So I made a 12.04 CD (from a Windows box) and booted it and tried to install, and got the same thing: The box hung again with the same symptoms: no keyboard and mouse (both are USB) and the display frozen in some resolution. At this point, I must explain that I had started with Ubuntu 9, upgraded to 10, then to 11, and these on-line incremental upgrades had all gone fine. Only the incremental upgrade from 11 to 12 failed. Why a fresh install of Ubuntu 11 would screw up is beyond me, since the incremental upgrade from 10 to 11 works! I got upset and put in Windows Vista Ultimate, which one of my kids had given me when he upgraded to Windows 7 to play his silly games on. The install finished correctly but Windows complained that it did not have a driver for my Ethernet chip. Come on, this is a Dell box with a common Broadcom Ethernet chip! And Windows can't handle it?!? Oh well, neither could Ubuntu 11 or 12 (for different reasons). So then I went back to Ubuntu 10, and installed that fresh. It works! I am sticking with Ubuntu 10! I was just growing used to the Unity interface in 11, and I really like the Ubuntu 11 software package manager. But, I am used to the Bluecurve GUI, and I hate the ribbon across the top in Ubuntu 11: I believe each window should have its own menu bar at the top of that window. So, sum total, I am sticking with Ubuntu 10 long-term! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995013] Re: Xorg freeze after lid closed/opened (screen turned off/on) several times
Affects me too. Doesn't happen every time. I just tested and did ~10 open and closes and all was fine. Then it did freeze. This time, at least, I was able to Crtl+Alt+F1 into the console (I hadn't tested this before), but what should I do from there? I was able to shutdown from there, saving me from hard resetting, but is there any way of killing the session and getting back to the log in screen? (Is that exactly what Alt+Print+K would do?) I hadn't made the connection with Firefox, but it is the browser I use, so it is basically open constantly. I'll try switching to Chromium for a while and see if that stops the issue. I had tried changing the power settings from do nothing to suspend but the hangs still happen. I'm using an ASUS UL30A with an Intel 4500MHD Graphics Media Accelerator and running 32-bit Precise upgraded from Oneiric and this issue has been affecting me since that upgrade. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995013 Title: Xorg freeze after lid closed/opened (screen turned off/on) several times To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/995013/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 997676] [NEW] After upgrade to 12.04, X briefly freezes during I/O activity
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This machine was fast as lightning on 11.10, on the same hardware (Dell Precision M4400, 8GB RAM) After upgrade, X now freezes completely (nothing is updated on the screen, including load monitors) for periods of 1-10 seconds. This typically occurs during I/O, here are the typical causes: - Opening a new blank tab in Chrome (version 18.0.1025.168) - Reloading an existing page in Chrome - Opening or saving a file in Eclipse (3.7.2 from apt-get, type of file doesn't matter) This does not occur when opening a file in a simple text editor, or launching most small applications, nor does it seem to affect Firefox. It is possible that this isn't related to I/O but instead to x input, process allocation, etc.I would even say it's a Chrome issue but Eclipse and Chrome both started doing this with 12.04, thus I'm guessing it's systemic. Tried running Chrome from a clean config (no plugins) - same effect. The system is not SWAPPING at all, there is plenty of ram, and top reports no wait. dmesg shows no obvious errors. CPU meters appear to spike during the pause (1 of the 2 cores), but I can't be 100% sure because the screen doesn't update until after. When I run Windows 7 in VirtualBox, the guest itself runs with no delays. I've installed preload, which made little difference. Attached is the output of hdparm -I, hdparm -tT, smartctl -a, lspci -vvn, vmstat -2 The vmstat output covers several of these major pauses, especially towards the end (the last 12-15 rows were all printed only after it unfroze). This bug is similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.22/+bug/131094 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.22/+bug/131094 but I don't think they are the same.
