[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999191] Re: X crashes with gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11
OK, I am still trying to figure out what triggers this bug. Now it happened when I was working with gnome-terminal and evince. I was not able to get a X backtrace according to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing: I have installed the debugging versions of xserver-xorg-core-dbg, libgl1 -mesa-dri-dbg and xserver-xorg-video-nouveau-dbg and rebooted. I tried $ sudo service apport start force_start=1 start: Job is already running: apport But apport doesn't report anything after logging back. I don't have another machine available to try the remote debugging. However, I tried to attach gdb to Xorg from text console, which just froze the system after entering cont in gdb. I didnt find any core dump in /etc/X11/core. The /var/crash doesnt contain relevant information either. There is also another problem related to this bug: After the first crash, the alt+ctrl+f1 stops working. The graphics output just switches off (monitor reports no signal) instead of switching to text console. I need to reboot to make it work again. This makes the debugging a bit more difficult. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/999191 Title: X crashes with gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/999191/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
I installed the 290.10 using the x86_64 package downloaded off the NVIDIA website. I had no crash ever since. I stressed my system by playing multiple YouTube and Vimeo Flash HD clips in parallel (that used to crash everytime), no problem! If you don't need the latest changes in the drivers, this is a very viable solution! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002224] Re: Please include gallium vdpau and xvmc driver support
Also, a debdiff attached. vdpauinfo now detects VDPAU on my r600+ (radeon hd 4670) card after installing the resulting libg3dvl-mesa .deb. However, there is a build related issue at least I had - contrary to the debdiff, I used -rf instead of just -r, ie. set -e; for file in $(NOT_INSTALLED); do rm -rf debian/tmp/$$file; done - because it complained about some XvMC files without -f. Therefore, as discussed in the comment above that line, those disappeared files should be probably accounted for in the packaging somehow. The reason the original line is in debdiff is that I added the -f manually and ran fakeroot debian/rules binary to complete creating the packages. ** Patch added: debdiff_mesa_g3dvl.patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/mesa/+bug/1002224/+attachment/3155692/+files/debdiff_mesa_g3dvl.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1002224 Title: Please include gallium vdpau and xvmc driver support To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mesa/+bug/1002224/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

The problem happened again a while ago... Used patched kernel 3.2.5 in post #103. Still freezes completely with gnome classic with effects on i5-3570k, z77 mb combo. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982710] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40 driver is extremely slow
I would like to ask for clarification. My status is that I am running 295.49, installed via precise-updates. I had previously uninstalled everything nvidia, attempted to get nouveau working (I have a 2 video card setup), and then decided to give the binary drivers one more try. So I apt-get installed them. My symptoms remain. All is fine immediately after a restart. However, after a period of time, X is slow, and Flash becomes unplayable. This behavior is a huge regression compared to 10.04. What is the right venue for these problems? Is there a different open bug that is more pertinent? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985065]
To me it looks like a bug in the server. Look at the file out_gnome.xkb provided by bryce: ... xkb_symbols pc+fr(oss)+us:2+inet(evdev) { ... key AD01 { type[group1]= ALPHABETIC, type[group2]= FOUR_LEVEL_ALPHABETIC, symbols[Group1]= [ q, Q ], symbols[Group2]= [ a, A, ae, AE ] }; ... So, symbols are screwed, fr is supposed to be in the 1st group, but in reality they are in the second group (American Qwerty vs French A) At the same time, the xkm file attached by Sebastien, once converted to xkb (xkbcomp in.xkm -xkb out.xkb) has: ... xkb_symbols pc+fr(oss)+gb:2+inet(evdev)+group(shift_caps_toggle) { ... key AD01 { type[group1]= FOUR_LEVEL_ALPHABETIC, type[group2]= FOUR_LEVEL_SEMIALPHABETIC, symbols[Group1]= [ a, A, ae, AE ], symbols[Group2]= [ q, Q, at, Greek_OMEGA ] }; ... Which is correct! So, once that xkm file is fed into X server, it swaps the groups. At least that's the only explanation I can give, for now. If everyone agrees with that, I would forward that bug to xorg server, Input/XKB component. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002542] [NEW] Xorg freeze minutes after plugging external monitor.
Public bug reported: Used Precise for weeks, with external monitor sometimes plugged, everything ok. (Small drawback: boot fails with external monitor attached. Another issue.) Today I applied system update. Now, whenever I plug in external monitor, desktop extends correctly on it. After a moment (minutes), the bug happens. * Mouse pointer moves but... * Clicking anywhere does nothing. * *No* update anywhere on screen (e.g. no more CPU activity graph scrolling every second) * Music from X client rhythmbox continues playing for about a minute or so then stops. * Ctrl-Alt-F1 does not switch to text console * Ssh into machine works. Killing some X clients does not change display. One of the times, to get back control of the laptop screen, I had no choice but reboot. The last time, killall Xorg succeeded (a new Xorg was launched by lightdm) and I'm using that session while typing this. Bug happens reproductibly a while after external monitor plugged. *Does not happen when external monitor is not plugged.* # History * I'm not definitely sure that the bug was technically triggered by the update today, but * the problem definitely never happened before today. * I applied software update on 13h14m. * First bug occurrence at about 16h07m. * Second bug occurrence at about 16h14m. * Third bug occurrence at about 17h10m. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1001821] Re: [regression] MSI Wind U-100 hangs on resume from suspend
Done a bit of additional debugging: - pressing Print-Screen when it's frozen does produce the camera noise, but no visible change to the screen, so keyboard input is still being tracked (to a point) - running unity --replace from a VT fails, as it claims to fail opening the display. - killing compiz changes the display (clears any windows), but leaves it frozen, and running unity --replace still fails with the same error given the above, I'm wondering if this ought to be reassigned to compiz? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1001821 Title: [regression] MSI Wind U-100 hangs on resume from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1001821/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
