Ok, not the same keyboard: français (variante obsolète), but even with
the same keyboard layout as you have, I still get a comma.

Copied all of the *.conf files under /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d from

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999191] Re: X crashes with gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11

2012-05-21 Thread Stepan Roucka
OK, I am still trying to figure out what triggers this bug. Now it
happened when I was working with gnome-terminal and evince. I was not
able to get a X backtrace according to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing:

I have installed the debugging versions of xserver-xorg-core-dbg, libgl1
-mesa-dri-dbg and xserver-xorg-video-nouveau-dbg and rebooted.

I tried
$ sudo service apport start force_start=1
start: Job is already running: apport
But apport doesn't report anything after logging back.

I don't have another machine available to try the remote debugging.
However, I tried to attach gdb to Xorg from text console, which just
froze the system after entering cont in gdb.

I didnt find any core dump in /etc/X11/core. The /var/crash doesnt
contain relevant information either.

There is also another problem related to this bug: After the first
crash, the alt+ctrl+f1 stops working. The graphics output just switches
off (monitor reports no signal) instead of switching to text console.
I need to reboot to make it work again. This makes the debugging a bit
more difficult.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-05-21 Thread Romuald C.
I installed the 290.10 using the x86_64 package downloaded off the NVIDIA
website. I had no crash ever since.
I stressed my system by playing multiple YouTube and Vimeo Flash HD clips
in parallel (that used to crash everytime), no problem!
If you don't need the latest changes in the drivers, this is a very viable
solution!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002224] [NEW] Please include gallium vdpau and xvmc driver support

2012-05-21 Thread Timo Jyrinki

Mesa 8.0+ now supports eg. hw accelerated video decoding via the VDPAU
API, and XvMC support, over Gallium on at least Radeon r300+ and r600+.
Please enable the support for it. More info and a patch in the linked
Debian bug report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002224] Re: Please include gallium vdpau and xvmc driver support

2012-05-21 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Also, a debdiff attached. vdpauinfo now detects VDPAU on my r600+
(radeon hd 4670) card after installing the resulting libg3dvl-mesa .deb.

However, there is a build related issue at least I had - contrary to the
debdiff, I used -rf instead of just -r, ie. set -e; for file in
$(NOT_INSTALLED); do rm -rf debian/tmp/$$file; done - because it
complained about some XvMC files without -f. Therefore, as discussed in
the comment above that line, those disappeared files should be probably
accounted for in the packaging somehow. The reason the original line is
in debdiff is that I added the -f manually and ran fakeroot debian/rules
binary to complete creating the packages.

The -r added in the original patch was apparently needed because of a
new vdpau directory.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999191] Re: X crashes with gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11

2012-05-21 Thread Stepan Roucka
The problem happened again a while ago... I found a post in a forum
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11917028postcount=2
where the user reports similar problems (crashes and black screen instead of
console) caused by the nvidia driver. So I removed the nvidia drivers. So far
the only difference is, that switching to text console from X is instant --- it
took several seconds before to switch back and forth. I will report again
whether the crashes still occur.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1000162] Re: graphic corruption in 12.04 LTS with radeon driver

2012-05-21 Thread Chris Eineke
I have some corruptions with Google Chrome, but not to that level. I'm
missing a fifth of all webpages on the right border and text in text
boxes isn't displayed. (So apologies for spelling mistakes, ican't see
what I have typed in so far.) Interactions with form elements seem to
work, but the graphics do not seeupdate. Goole Chrome is quite unusable
at this point for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993506] Re: nvidia kernel module fails to build on 3.4.x kernel [fatal error: asm/system.h: No such file or directory]

2012-05-21 Thread Jim Hanlon
Ran into this this morning. Looking at latest nvidia driver code
(NVIDIA-Linux-x86-295.53) this seems to have been dealt with in their
source. Probably in 2012-03-22 version 295.33, but I didn't actually
go dig into that.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently

2012-05-21 Thread freeman70
Used patched kernel 3.2.5 in post #103. Still freezes completely with
gnome classic with effects on i5-3570k, z77 mb combo. Played openarena
for an hour or so, surfed the web, then shut down no problem. Booted
system 7 hours later and it locked up a few minutes later while surfing
the net. Going to try 3.3.6 since I have no other alternative. I love
Ubuntu but this bug is getting on my nerves.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982710] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40 driver is extremely slow

2012-05-21 Thread rmcd
I would like to ask for clarification. My status is that I am running
295.49, installed via precise-updates. I had previously uninstalled
everything nvidia, attempted to get nouveau working (I have a 2 video
card setup), and then decided to give the binary drivers one more try.
So I apt-get installed them.

My symptoms remain. All is fine immediately after a restart. However,
after a period of time, X is slow, and Flash becomes unplayable. This
behavior is a huge regression compared to 10.04.

What is the right venue for these problems? Is there a different open
bug that is more pertinent? Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993525] Re: [Dell Precision M6500 with ATI chipset] Suspending by closing the lid corrupts display

2012-05-21 Thread Ruben Verhack
I have exact the same issue with the fglrx (post-release update)

with only a black screen. So maybe I'm suffering from two bugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002224]

2012-05-21 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
The attachment debdiff_mesa_g3dvl.patch of this bug report has been
identified as being a patch in the form of a debdiff. The ubuntu-
sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they can
review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. In the event that this is in
fact not a patch you can resolve this situation by removing the tag
'patch' from the bug report and editing the attachment so that it is not
flagged as a patch. Additionally, if you are member of the ubuntu-
sponsors team please also unsubscribe the team from this bug report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 188342] Re: keymap fr/oss: numpad '.' mapped to period instead of KP_Decimal

2012-05-21 Thread mohican
So, it works also for me with the français (variante obsolète).

In order to change really from one keyboard to the other you have to
keep only one keyboard layout in the list.

Try this in the keyboard layout dialog :
- add français (variante)
-delete français (variante obsolète)
Then log out and log in again
Then try Calc

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985065]

2012-05-21 Thread Sergey V. Udaltsov
To me it looks like a bug in the server. Look at the file out_gnome.xkb
provided by bryce:

...
xkb_symbols pc+fr(oss)+us:2+inet(evdev) {
...
key AD01 {
type[group1]= ALPHABETIC,
type[group2]= FOUR_LEVEL_ALPHABETIC,
symbols[Group1]= [   q,   Q ],
symbols[Group2]= [   a,   A,  ae,
   AE ]
};
...
So, symbols are screwed, fr is supposed to be in the 1st group, but in reality
they are in the second group (American Qwerty vs French A)

At the same time, the xkm file attached by Sebastien, once converted to xkb
(xkbcomp in.xkm -xkb out.xkb) has:
...
xkb_symbols pc+fr(oss)+gb:2+inet(evdev)+group(shift_caps_toggle) {
...
key AD01 {
type[group1]= FOUR_LEVEL_ALPHABETIC,
type[group2]= FOUR_LEVEL_SEMIALPHABETIC,
symbols[Group1]= [   a,   A,  ae,
   AE ],
symbols[Group2]= [   q,   Q,  at,
  Greek_OMEGA ]
};
...
Which is correct! So, once that xkm file is fed into X server, it swaps the
groups. At least that's the only explanation I can give, for now. If everyone
agrees with that, I would forward that bug to xorg server, Input/XKB component.
If someone has better ideas - please let me hear them!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-05-21 Thread jbus
I installed the later version of xserver-xorg-video-intel that is in the
PPA yesterday and I have not had a freeze as of yet. I've been making
sure to close my laptop lid because that's when it usually happens...
When the lid is closed and it's left for a while. I'll update if I get
another freeze, but for now it looks like the freezing has stopped with
the updated driver.

This is the output from lspci | grep VGA:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 890928] Re: When trying to install libxkbfile1:i386 the pkg manager asks to remove too many important packages [Multi-arch]

2012-05-21 Thread dorpm
I found a workaround: Install libxkbfile (amd and i386) from
https://launchpad.net/~tellis/+archive/multiarch/+packages. That solves
the problem for the moment.

Sorry I didn't have a chance to troubleshoot more. Got super swamped.

I upgraded this machine to 12.04 a day or two after it was released, and
this problem has not recurred.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002542] [NEW] Xorg freeze minutes after plugging external monitor.

2012-05-21 Thread gouri
Public bug reported:

Used Precise for weeks, with external monitor sometimes plugged, everything ok.
(Small drawback: boot fails with external monitor attached. Another issue.)

Today I applied system update.

Now, whenever I plug in external monitor, desktop extends correctly on it.
After a moment (minutes), the bug happens.

* Mouse pointer moves but...
* Clicking anywhere does nothing.
* *No* update anywhere on screen (e.g. no more CPU activity graph scrolling
every second)
* Music from X client rhythmbox continues playing for about a minute or so then
stops.
* Ctrl-Alt-F1 does not switch to text console
* Ssh into machine works. Killing some X clients does not change display.

One of the times, to get back control of the laptop screen, I had no choice but
reboot.
The last time, killall Xorg succeeded (a new Xorg was launched by lightdm) and
I'm using that session while typing this.

Bug happens reproductibly a while after external monitor plugged.
*Does not happen when external monitor is not plugged.*

# History

* I'm not definitely sure that the bug was technically triggered by the update
today, but
* the problem definitely never happened before today.

* I applied software update on 13h14m.
* First bug occurrence at about 16h07m.
* Second bug occurrence at about 16h14m.
* Third bug occurrence at about 17h10m.

(then used machine on battery without external screen until out of
energy)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-05-21 Thread Grant Phillips
As per David Edwards (purple52), 290.10 stops the xorg crash. I've been
stable for over day now. Chrome seem to increase the crash frequency,
but it's all good now.

Nice start to my migration from 7 to Ubuntu. Can finally get on with it
now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1001821] Re: [regression] MSI Wind U-100 hangs on resume from suspend

2012-05-21 Thread Evan Huus
Done a bit of additional debugging:

- pressing Print-Screen when it's frozen does produce the camera noise,
but no visible change to the screen, so keyboard input is still being
tracked (to a point)

- running unity --replace from a VT fails, as it claims to fail opening
the display.

- killing compiz changes the display (clears any windows), but leaves it
frozen, and running unity --replace still fails with the same error

given the above, I'm wondering if this ought to be reassigned to compiz?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 752445] Re: Intermittent white window contents when maximizing/switching windows

2012-05-21 Thread Leo
Problem persists in 12.04 as of May 22nd with Nvidia drivers. Reported
this bug in several threads but seems to be consistently ignored.

As of now, this is the most annoying 'bug' in 12.04 BY FAR!!!
